We've had great experiences with Pekín insurance. Several years ago, we had a garage fire and Pekín took care of everything and made us 100% whole. More recently, my car was hit by a driver with substandard insurance. That company wasnt going to pay a thing! Pekin took care of me completely, fixed up my car, and sent the claim to subrogation. Ultimately they couldn't get much from the substandard insurance company, but still sent me a check to try and mitigate my losses from the deductible. PLEASE AVOID PEKIN INSURANCE AT ALL COSTS!!! Not only are their coverages getting worse and premiums getting higher, but they are absolutely horrible to deal with when you have a claim. It's been 6 weeks since I made a claim on my house due to a hail storm and I still don't have a finalized estimate from them. It was "wet" the day the adjuster came to our house (he had already rescheduled twice due to rain) so he spent less than 10 minutes inspecting and as a result, missed all kinds of damage on the estimate. I then had to go get a bunch of estimates from contractors along with photos to prove the damage, and he's still fighting me on it. I talked to the claims manager, who was no help either. I'm in the insurance industry so I understand the challenges, but the way Pekin Insurance does business is absolutely unacceptable. read more

Because zero is not an option here, but is certainly applicable here. I've had this homeowner's coverage for about 12 years and, thanks be to God, have never (yet) had to file a claim. Given the general level of incompetence of its front end customer service team, I'd be in deep camel excrement were this ever the case. Last month, while traveling on business and pre-occupied with more pressing issues, I tranposed my payment amount due and consequently underpaid my balance due by $9.43. Days later I receive a stern boilerplate advising that, because of my obviously intentional venal sin commission, my policy would cancel on June 3, 2024. While I understand the role in automation as it correlates to the preponderance of intellectually limited customer sevice clerks in this carrier's employ, once upon a time a company, contemplating cancellation for NON payment, would perhaps send "Letter 1", less acerbic and perhaps more personal than the dreck that I received yesterday, conveying its urgent need for $9.43 to keep in force a policy held by somebody stupid enough to retain this carrier secondary to having asked NOTHING over a 12 year tenure during which not one payment had been missed or erroneously conveyed. This, however, is clearly and presently beyond the capabilities/sociological imagination of this carrier and this will indeed the sponsoring cause for my migration away from this horrific organization. Insurance is a commodity, and surely there is at least one carrier with engaged, intelligent, helpful, staff lacking portraits of Max Weber in each of its/their/they/them (personal pronouns matter here I'd guess) cubicles. The next time you so much as contemplate selecting this carrier please do just that. Think about it and run, don't walk, the opposite direction as quickly as possible. read more

ZERO STRARS!!!. I was involved in an accident with a Pekin insurance carrier. It was completely their fault, she was cited and received a ticket. Took one month for them to acknowledge it was their drivers fault. But only after I had made many phone calls to the absolute worse insurance adjuster on the face of the earth. I don't think she ever has returned a single phone call after endless messages. Finally asked for a different adjuster who handled things on a timely manner, but I was told I needed to continue with my original adjuster. Again she had setup a date that she was going to call me about my rental car. Of course that date had come and gone. I called her, and after leaving a message, again no call back. I called her manager who was really of no help... his response was he would give her " some coaching". After 2 months I was able to get my car in for repair. The repair took longer than expected and even the rental car company couldn't get a response from her and asked me to try. This needed to be done 2 different times. After getting my car back and trying to get my diminished car value, she told me she had everything she needed, and would forward to her manager, and I would hear back in approximately 3 days. Well it has now been 2 weeks, so I again have to call her. She wants to know if they have everything. I told her 2 weeks ago she told me they had everything. She informs me again, they have everything and she will forward it to her manager and I should hear back in 3 days. So Bad. Twice they failed to charge my card an canceled my insurance. When i switched to monthly billing to work around the card charging issue they told me it was the same price then charged me more. Their app mysteriously disappeared from the Google store. When I canceled they tried to charge me 2 months later for coverage after I cancelled. They send me mail at an address that I didn't live at any longer despite having my email and phone number. Since I didn't pay a bill it didn't get the sent me to a collection agency. When I tried to contact Pekin they did not answer for 4 weeks or return calls. I finally got a hold of someone and I had to get my new insurance to contact them to prove I had insurance. All of that and when they calculated they owed me money. I have about 5 hours sunk into rectifying this situation they caused and it's not over yet. I don't trust that they remedied the collection company issue and they don't answer their phone either. I'm glad i didn't have to file a claim. This company should be investigated by whatever government authority manages insurance companies. read more

I wish I could do zero stars. This company is terrible. I had an accident in June which was my first accident in over 15 years ( only one other). And they paid the claim. However, 6 months later and after paying all premiums on time they dropped my coverage due to the accident. If you're going to claim that the reason is the accident don't sneakily collect premiums to further your business then drop the policy. Poor business practice. I had an absolutely horrible experience trying to settle a personal injury claim from an auto accident, which was 100% their insured's fault. The adjuster assigned to my case operated at a 3rd grade level. I had to answer the same questions multiple times, send copies of bills multiple times, and call multiple times with no response. I'm sure this is a tactic they use, to make you so frustrated you just give up and settle. Absolute scumbags, I hope I never have to encounter them again. Now I understand why people get over treated for injuries, it's the only way to get a fair settlement. My advice to anyone who gets into even a minor accident - go immediately to the ER and see as many specialists as you can, go on disability and document every ache and pain. It's the only way to be treated even close to fairly. It's very sad but true. Do the right thing and you get cheated. read more

I have had Pekin Insurance for about seven years or so. I've never really need them for anything because I've never caused an accident. My car was parked, and a truck hit and ran it. It was totaled forty-eight days ago. Still nothing from this insurance company. It would only take five minutes of their time to help me, and they won't do it. Absolutely horrible insurance company. Avoid at all costs. They took advantage of my 90 year-old father, undervaluing his totaled car by thousands of dollars. He got so tired of fighting with them that he just gave up. One example: they said his tires had 20% wear left on them, until I showed them a receipt that all four tired had been replaced the month before. Only then did they give him full value. They are crooks. He had his entire ankle rebuilt, two major surgeries, months in the hospital, and they only offered him 25K for his pain and suffering. read more

We had a hail in May 2018. All our neighbors claimed to their insurance companies and get paid. My claim gets denied. This insurance company is another disaster after a natural disaster. They will do all things to avoid the claims. End up the homeowners are paying years, when something really happened, you are on your own. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. My apartment was flooded, and Pekin was the insurance through which we would be getting reimbursed to fix the damages. It has taken over three months to get our claim processed and to be reimbursed. Our claims agent has been completely unresponsive to phone calls and emails. He continuously made empty promises stating our claim would be processed within the next week, only to have this never actually happen. I'm sure they are quick to take money, and all insurance companies are slow to give money out, but their blatant unprofessionalism and lack of customer service is the reason for negative stereotypes on insurance companies overall. HORRIBLE company with employees to match. After filing a claim, the adjuster (Bruce) asked for pictures instead of coming to look at the incident. I told him I wanted him to come out but then again he asked for pictures. Do your job! After looking at the incident Pekin chose to blatantly lie in their denial letter. After using picture evidence to show them that they lied, they decided that I "needed to file a claim with the other involved parties insurance company." Wow, how convenient. I'm having a Horrible experience with this Insurance Company. I've never written a bad review on an Insurance Company before. This is a first and I had to share it. Run far away from doing business with Pekin if you can! Pekin Insurance is a dishonest company and they are pro's at covering up their mistakes and lies. After sharing audio recordings, pictures and documentation, they are finally acknowledging their liability for my claim. They sent their expert out to my home to survey my damages, and now they are hassling me and their expert about not paying the amount that "their expert" validated on the claim and repair estimate. Its lengthy but worth the read.... the offered more for my tires but the total was the same as before giving me more????? Their insured blew the stop sign, failed to yield and 3 MPH over on my black box info they say 10% liability is my fault! The 06 SRT8 Chrysler 300 is destroyed and now being undervalued. Of the choices to select for not liking in this Google review, Not responsive is not one I can select, they are responsive GO PEKIN! They are low balling their own insured's claim along with mine from what her sister is saying (we know the insureds family, they are not happy with their offer). I would say if your a customer they keep your premiums low by undervaluing thier non insured claims but this family is saying to me otherwise. But back to the one thing I can not complain about, PEKIN responding. They have and from the first call when they said they understood that this is a rare and fairly sought after type of vehicle, they said they understood and then asked to pull black box info. I was reluctant, I knew I was close to the 45MPH posted limit and David Hammond stated liability wouldn't change unless I was doing "Like 120 MPH" or something drastic. I said ok but I would like their insureds info in exchange. 3 MPH over on the box info and they are taking 10% to my fault. David Hammond Lied to me. I gave him a very strongly worded response with a lot of profanities and asked if PEKIN drug tested their employees and asked for an escalation. He didnt escalate it to supervisor at that point. While submitting to them other items like the NTB statement I sent proving 88% tire life left and they add $149 for 4 tires! After over a month and several re-requests, they finally sent thier insureds black box info like David Hammond said he would. Their black box info has their insured not stopping at the posted stop sign and only slowing to 7 MPH before entering the intersection failing to yield to my right of way, I had no stop sign. but say 10% of the accident is my liability! Then my mechanics letter of condition stating the excellent working condition and all of the records for keeping a first edition (2006 SRT8) that is now the Hellcat for dodge and the monthly MooMooo car wash used a few times a week, they are stating it needed $1,200 to get it to a dealer selling level of excellence. They send interior pictures days after showing debris the windows busted out and sitting outside on a tow lot saying its $1,200 worth of dealer provisions. I asked for the tires and they stated I had to give them a time/day to go to their impound lot and swap them with other tires. like I keep a rim machine in my back pocket... and Todd Fourmann said they will reevaluate the price with the different tires (you would think that is already part of the $1,200 dealer prep to make it excellent to be able to sell. I asked questions for this process of what I am allowed to do to get my old tires removed and replacement tires put on and have yet to get an answer, but I have gotten responses.... but never to my questions, except asking again the day I would be going. Mr Hammond and Mr Fourmann also have yet to explain the offer I have received and how all the #'s come to final total. the total of my last offer was the same as the one before they were giving me before graciously adding a little extra for near brand new tires proven. Enough tread wear to reduce the actual speed of my car by 1-2 MPH that they want to say I am 10% liable for thier insured failing to stop, slow, and yield to my right of way. I have asked for another escalation. I all I want to do is be put back in the same position I was prior to the accident but when the lowest valued car that had more miles and exterior / interior pictures looked worse than my car including them having to pull 2007's from their list of comparable vehicles and the higher mileage worse condition is sold for a cpl more thousand then their offer to me. I will let you decide if they are the insurance company for you. read more

I have my homeowners through Pekin and called them to make a claim. My siding was destroyed by woodpeckers. I called them to specifically ask if the woodpecker damage would be covered. They told me that it was covered so I went ahead with making the claim. a couple weeks later I received a very confusing letter in the mail from them. One paragraph said the damage was covered, then the very next paragraph said it wasn't and they would pay the claim. Needless to say, they never paid the claim but left the claim on my record. Not only did my rates go up from making a claim, I also couldn't get insurance through anyone else because of the claim. Thanks for nothing, Pekin. read more

I would recommend not doing business with Pekin Insurance. I agree with Tim M. -- horrible company with employees to match. They can't even do simple things such as do an address change request. Customer service people are snotty and aloof. If after three months they cannot get you a billing, and you finally in desperation suggest your next move will be to hire a lawyer, they hang up on you claiming that you have "threatened" them. Recently, ALL supervisors in a single meeting. Doubtful. Worst customer service in the history of insurance -- and that is saying something. Keep looking -- better firms out there. Although, in today's brave new world where companies are "people," but have more rights than REAL PEOPLE -- no company gives true customer service any longer. Company is so horrible I created an account for no other reason than to rate them. Like others after years of paying for insurance upon filing first minor claim expect to have things go down hill. After a slip and fall due to ice resulted in claim they sent out a letter that stated the body injury claim was being denied however medical bills up to $5000 were covered. Which like another reviewer made it sound like the claim was being both denied and approved. Before a single bill arrived in their hands to pay they sent out a letter stating that they were canceling the house insurance coverage. So not only do you have to worry about them being slow like others stated, but also have to deal with them canceling your policy if you are the policy holder and have to use your insurance for any reason. Save yourself the hassle and go with anyone else besides this company. Don't think it is an accident that you can't rate them on their facebook page. read more
