I ordered General Tso's chicken and pork fried rice. Definitely a red flag that they told me the carryout order would be ready in 10 minutes. I can't imagine how they could prepare that in 10 minutes. The pork fried rice had chicken in it, so I guess they messed that up. Although it was definitely the better of the two dishes. The General Tso's chicken was gross, one out of five stars, would not eat again. The texture was off, it was overcooked, and the sauce was horrendously sweet and syrupy. The few little morsels of overcooked, limp broccoli were shameful. I'd rather have gas station food than this again, much better value and at least toronados are reliable. read more

We live in the area and have eaten at Peking many, many times and it has been excellent. Unfortunately, our take out experience was not so good on Monday July 10th. We had lunch and the fried rice was terrible. It was bland brown rice. It didn't have peas, carrots or onions and we were not offered any soy sauce or sweet and sour sauce. We also had an order of crab rangoon. They were chewy, and tasted sour. Needless to say, we will not be visiting the restaurant for awhile. Are there new owners?? read more

I went here recently for nostalgic purposes. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants as a kid. The decor looked exactly the same and it brought up some nice memories. I have to admit the food was just okay (not bad, just not as good as I remembered), but the prices were unbeatable. We had three adults and two children in our party. After ordering two lunch specials, rice, a few orders of crab rangoon, and soup, our total was just over $20. To me, it was totally worth it. When I dine here, which is a few times a year, I always dine in because I live far enough away that take-out would get cold by the time I get home. The food is good quality, and seemingly very fresh. I had a dish marked "spicy," and it was was moderately spicy; I could have used more, or hot sauce on the table to add. What I most objected to was the background music, which was the same song played over and over. It was "It Is Well (With My Soul)," played by piano and cello. Having grown up in the Chicago suburbs, I've tried quite a few Chinese restaurants, and the food here ranks right up there with the best of 'em. Had a small issue with the temperature of the food, but it definitely wasn't anything that'll keep me from coming back. After a bowl of hot'n'sour soup, a couple egg rolls with the house hot mustard, and the "House Special Beef" dish, I left a very satisfied customer. read more

Food isn't horrible for northern Wisconsin Chinese food, but the Lo mein had the color of beef stroganoff and chicken fried rice was not worth taking leftovers home. Also, the food smelled troubling. It's actually quite sad that an ownership change in mid 2018 turned this from one of the best places in town to one of the worst. I used to be a regular and have tried several times to get redemption but it is clear that their food standards are now very low. Take note of recent reviews compared to the older ones. It is clearly old, reheated food and after stopping there last night got sick from the food. It has gone from great to not good to dangerous. I'm done. Seriously don't eat here. read more

I have been going to this restaurant for over 15 years. In truth it went through a few rough years during a change of ownership but now it is back under the original family. Their pepper steak is unmatched and I recommend the two flavored beef and chicken. I now live in a large city with many Chinese restaurants and u can't find an egg roll that comes close to those at Peking. When I get in to town, one of the first things I do is head over to Peking. Got the standard: Gen Tso's. The chicken was monstrous chunks of fried chicken in a nonspicy (I specifically asked for spicy) sauce w/ some limp non-Chinese broccoli squished/drowning at the bottom. And this is the "good" Chinese place (out of 2) in town. Here from out-of-state for work & won't be back. Seating inside is cheek to jowl and the take-out area is pitifully small. new owners have changed a few menu items & I'm saddened that most are not for the better. Eggrolls are worse, Gen Tsao chicken used to be nice, big chunks of white meat, now are small dark meat with poor flavor. Many other small changes are going to ruin an established business. First timers eating here and the food was fabulous. We had the sesame chicken and the beef and snow peas. Both dishes were excellent. Service is really fast. Egg drop soup was also great. I am absolutely livid with Peking. After finding a huge piece of cartilage in my beef & broccoli (by wedging it firmly between my molars - I can't get the cartilage out!) I requested that particular item be taken off of my bill. That is when all the fun started. No one speaks more than a few words of English, so I tried to explain what cartilage is - and got a run around that none of their flank steak ever has cartilage or bone - except they do and I handed over my nice big chunk of it. No one would do anything - I can't have an item listed for $8.75 removed. I really hope that the $8.75 I requested be removed from the bill is worth the loss of a sale totaling $47.65 (after I initiate a charge back at my bank) and the amount of bad business I am giving them. The after taste of Chinese mixed with massive amounts of blood from my murdered gums is not a pleasant combination. Needless to say, Peking will never be receiving my business again. They should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. read more

I read the previous reviews that rated this restaurant lower than 2 stars. One girl got meat stuck in her teeth. Come on! Don't eat meat if you can't stand it getting stuck in your teeth. When in Rhinelander, we make a trip to Peking. For the Northwoods, their dishes are very good. But yesterday, I tried Fuzon Chicken for a change. Among the ingredients is crabmeat. Best Chinese food option in Northern Wisconsin by far, and one of the best places to eat in Oneida County, period. Good for dining or carrying out. The Peking recently changed hands. I've eaten lo mein all over the world. Thankfully, they did not change the recipe. It is fantastic! I do wish they would offer Asian lettuce wraps in their appetizer section. They are such a popular and tasty dish. I miss the ladies who used to own this restaurant. They were much friendlier and go to know their customers. When checking out, we discovered that they do not allow you to put the tip on the credit card. Hmmm...always do elsewhere...whatever! Peking used to be my favorite restaurant in Rhinelander. Not so anymore. I had heard that there were new owners and now I've experienced their take on what used to be a great dish. My daughter and I ordered Sesame Chicken and Crab Rangoon. The Sesame Chicken consisted of mainly breading with very small pieces of white chicken. The sauce was lacking in flavor. The Crab Rangoon was also lacking in any flavor and tasted like plain cream cheese. I'm so disappointed and hope the new owners see these reviews and make some changes. read more
