Well, being native Californians, sushi was a staple. But we felt a little hesitant to try the Midwest version having moved here 5 years ago. But today we gave in, and it did not disappoint. Nothing exotic, but the California roll and spicy California roll were outstanding. Fresh ingredients, super tasty. Our granddaughter had the spicy shrimp roll and said it was great. We did take out this time, but I think we may have to dine in and try some more options in the future. We will be back! read more

This is the best sushi I've had- I have tried a lot of different sushi restaurants in/outside of Chicago and who would have thought that I would find my favorite sushi in Minocqua. I've reviewed Kobe Sushi a number of times -- and always favorably. Today I will add my "COVID Pandemic" review. Kobe is one of only a handful of restaurants in the Minocqua area that are taking the COVID pandemic seriously and instituting first rate protection of both employees and customers. All I can add to my past reviews is that if you like decent sushi and want it prepared and distributed in a way that will minimize the risk of transmitting COVID, this is the place to go to. I will continue to order take away on a regular basis and I hope to continue to do so in the future. For their efforts to keep their customers safe from COVID, they deserve five stars and everyone's support so they can get through this crisis. read more

Worst service. Upon walking in, my family asked the man waiting us for dine-in. It took him a while to acknowledge us, and once he did, he rudely said "Okay, over there". He pointed at a table in the corner with no room to pull our chairs back. Looking around, everything looked very tacky with most of the restaurant blocked off. After we sat down, our waiter practically threw our menus on the table and walked away. My family began discussing whether or not we should leave based on service alone. The waiter comes back again and gives us water. Again, practically throwing our glasses and straws on the table and then almost elbowing my sister in the face. My family looked at each other, got up, and left. We tried giving the place a chance, but the service was way too unbearable. Because of this, I'm leaving 1 star. read more

The best Sushi and the variety and choices are awesome. There is a very nice flavor that hits the palate. Not sure what it is but it is very pleasant. The owner was our waiter and he was so nice. The ambiance was okay not super special, but pleasant. Great music though. This was my husbands first time here and he loved it. Talked about the rest of the day. Ok so I posted before that I would not go back but I did and I feel the same way. I ordered online about 11 am for a 1:15 pm pick up. I understand some things need to be put together at the last minute like the shrimp tempura but I still had to wait about 20 minutes or longer. By the way the shrimp tempura is good but the non-raw sushi was mushy, not very tasty and I would still say was fair. A couple hours after I was sick. Sadly, northern Wisconsin may not be the place to get sushi. I don't recommend Kobe Sushi. read more

Very disappointing. I suppose beggars can't be choosers, and expecting good sushi in Northwest Wisconsin is probably a little naive, but I was still disappointed. The salad was the best part, very fresh, and the ginger dressing was spot on. I ordered hot tea, and was shocked when I was brought tea bag oolong, instead of loose green. Definitely not the same. The rolls had a pre-made taste to them, and had way too much spicy mayo. A spicy tuna roll should not be this heavy. There are far better ways to achieve spicy without so much mayo. I've been to Japan, twice and I've eaten sushi for 36 years all over the world. So, I'm going to give my honest, unbiased opinion on this place. First, why the hell am I seeing more and more Chinese people running sushi places!? This place is clean and looks "the part" of a sushi joint. However, they're severely cutting corners on their fish portions of the point of sheer rip off. They told me they get their fish from Chicago which sure is true. However, notice the items below read, "Assortment of raw fishes" except for the the LA Roll, which is an absolute ripoff. There was no assortment of fresh fish at all!! What they're doing is cutting back severely on the portions of fish and padding everything with rice. We paid $80 for 5 rolls and they were all mostly rice. Of course it tasted good, but there was barely any sashimi at all! So, eat here at your own risk at being disappointed. We ordered the following: +Bigi Roll Assortment of raw fishes, crabmeat and green onion inside. spicy honey wasabi mayo and bonito fish flakes on top. +Kobe Roll shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, cucumber and avocado inside. 3 different kinds of raw fish fishes, green onion, fish eggs, eel sauce nd spicy mayo on top. *LA Roll (there is no steamed shrimp on this roll. It's literally shrimp paper!!" I was so pissed! Look at my picture. I used to come here all the time when I worked at a nearby camp. I would always get one of the Dragon rolls complimented by a spicy tuna or salmon roll. On a road trip, I stopped by again today since it was on the way after maybe a 5 year hiatus (I stopped working at the camp) and not only did the owners immediately recognize me, but the food was just as good as I remembered. I feel like nostalgia can elevate tastes/memories in our minds, but I'd suggest Kobe to anyone interested at all in Kobe. I live in Minneapolis and fully wish this place were down there! I didn't have super high expectations for Sushi in a small Midwest town, but the fish seemed to be fine. Unfortunately what ruined it was the dried out rice that was used on the rolls. This may have been a one off thing; possibly the owners didn't realize the rice had been out a little too long.... but it was the manner in which it was handled that leads to the one star review. After alerting the waiter to the problem, the owner came over basically telling me I was wrong and this is how Sushi rice should be. I'm from California and we eat a lot of Sushi; if I wanted to buy it like this I can get dried up Sushi rolls in any supermarket. All I wanted was fresh rice which should have been a simple fix but instead of trying to rectify the problem, the owners became defensive and simply stated that this is how it is. If you're not willing to take criticism of listen to your customers, you probably shouldn't be running a restaurant. The crowning point was that after leaving the restaurant, the owner followed us outside (asking if we were from Chicago) and then flipped us off in full view of my 3 year old daughter. Apparently they have an issue serving tourists who are used to better quality food. Avoid. read more

I always go to Kobe at least a couple of times during my week stay in Minocqua. This visit was not exception and we went there twice. Thomas and his family are very friendly, welcoming, and seamless in their service. I am not even a big sushi enthusiast, however, the dishes at Kobe's are very fresh and flavorful. I had the Sogo Roll which includes shrimp tempura, special sauce, fresh avocado, etc. It was extremely good. Prices are very fair and atmosphere nice, updated, and clean. I'm not going to compare Kobe Sushi to Chicago sushi, California sushi, NY sushi, etc... this is a little sushi spot in Minocqua, WI and based on that and that alone, it's a pretty A-OK place! We had a couple fancy rolls, one was in a soybean wrapper and just ok, the other, the dragon, was really quite good. The spicy tuna was fine and average! I didn't do any nigiri or sashimi... I was nervous about having sushi so far inland, but shame on me for judging before I tasted! I had the Toba Roll (shrimp tempura and cream cheese inside, ground crabmeat, avocado on top with eel sauce and spicy mayo) and it was very good. The edamame was steamed just right with a nice amount of sea salt. Our server was quick and friendly and everything came out as ordered. The decor is spartan as in many small sushi places. A room full of tables with low-back chairs meant for cafeteria style eating and not necessarily lounging about for tea or cocktails. Drama Queen at this place!, 45 minutes after I placed an order "to go", the unpleasant gentleman told me they hadn't started the order and no guarantees it will be ready in another 15 minutes. When I placed the order he said 1 order ahead of you, come back in 45 minutes. At pick up he says, you want to cancel. We asked is it better if we cancel and he rudely says, up to you. I eat at Kobe Sushi every week or two when I'm up north for the summer. I usually go for lunch, and get the Kiku Bento Box, which has a spicy tuna roll, a California roll, and two "chef's choice" sushi pieces. Usually one of them is surimi crab, but the second varies: sometimes yellowtail, sometimes tamago, and sometimes shrimp. I've also had their Rainbow roll, their shrimp Spider roll, and regular tuna roll. The salad with ginger dressing is really good. Contrary to the previous post, I have their edamame on most visits, and it is steamed, not microwaved. I'm very happy with the food, and the service is excellent. The only consistently bad food is their stale fortune cookies. But I'm usually too full to want them, anyway, after all the food in the Bento Box. read more

Popped in for a quick snack and was pleasantly surprised! The sushi was quite fresh with excellent flavor. I only had maguro, unagi, escolar (kind of like toro) and miso soup.
