Fun soup review with great broth! I wasn't feeling well over the weekend, and my husband happened to be in the area and picked up some wonton soup from this restaurant--our first time trying it. I have to say, if you're looking for a soup with flavorful broth, this might be the place! The broth in their chicken wonton soup was exceptional. Unlike many other Chinese and Thai restaurants in the Charleston and Summerville area, where the broth often tastes like plain chicken stock, this soup had a depth of flavor I can't quite put my finger on--it felt like they added something special to it. The soup was very affordable (around $3 for a small), and they were generous with the wontons. We ordered four smalls, and every container was packed with plenty of wontons. If you're looking for a delicious, inexpensive soup to warm you up this winter, I highly recommend checking this place out! read more

A Long line of folks waiting for food is a good sign. I'm still searching for the best fried dumplings in the area. Ordered a few items and the wait was long. The dumplings were pretty good I must say. The had the right amount of dough and meat ratio. So this dumpling is in the running! Egg foo young patty was also pretty good. Fried rice that came with it not so much. Their egg roll is thin and long rather that stumpy and fat but lacked filling. A point of interest is that this establishment is near and Asian market which carries tons of items! So I shopped while I waited. I noticed other plates going out and they looked really good. I'm on a quest, in search of a Chinese restaurant near the Park Circle area that knows how to cook tofu well: slightly fried, chewy, and porous on the outside with spongy insides (but not overly moist), absorbing the flavor of whatever dish the tofu happens to be in. I've only visited this restaurant one time, so I am going to give this place another chance and update my review after my next visit. I really hope it is better next time. Today (12/22/2016) was my first visit (for lunch, takeout) and was VERY disappointing. I walked up to the counter to read the menu (only the lunch menu was posted outside). While scanning the menu, I asked the young girl at the counter if they can make Kung Po Tofu, since I didn't see it on the menu. She said no. (Note: Kung Po Shrimp and Kung Po Chicken are both on the menu, and most Chinese restaurants are willing to make Kung Po Tofu with vegetables even if it's not on the menu. I was disappointed when the young girl told me no, without even checking with anyone first. Just, "no". I was surprised that they would not accommodate this request.) I asked if there were any tofu items on the menu, since I didn't see any at first glance. She pointed to Sesame Tofu in the Chef's Specialties section, so I ordered it with a vegetable roll. I told her I'd be back in a few minutes and went shopping at the Asian grocery a few doors down to stock up on tofu and vegetables. I returned about 15 minutes later and the young girl and an adult woman apologized, they said the chef had misread my order and he made Sesame Chicken instead, and it would be a few minutes before my order was ready. I was thankful they noticed the mistake instead of sending me home with the wrong order, so I was happy to wait another ten minutes for my order to be correct. Positives: - restaurant had an A rating sign posted out front and seemed clean - the vegetable roll was good - just what I expected (first star earned) - the white rice was fresh and perfectly cooked (second star earned) - prices were reasonable Negatives: - The color of the Sesame Tofu sauce was a bright orange, and was flavorless. - The tofu was grossly undercooked, almost raw - a huge disappointment - and it was also flavorless, (thanks the flavorless, sub-par sauce). I could tell that the tofu was supposed to be fried, but it was not quite fried on the outside. I kept trying more bites in hopes that some pieces would be cooked all the way through - but none of the pieces of tofu were cooked properly. I threw the rest away and saved the white rice for later. It was a gross texture (and I'm a huge fan of tofu in all formats!). It was not like the perfectly fried tofu I am used to from Chinese restaurants in large cities. If the tofu pieces had been half the size they were (they were very large), then they maybe could have been cooked thoroughly in the amount of time they were cooked; but the tofu was basically raw inside, wasn't even warm in the middle. -------- I am hopeful this was a one-time, unfortunate mistake, and that the chef was rushing to make my tofu quickly because he had made it wrong the first time (with chicken instead of tofu). So, maybe that's why he didn't take notice that he hadn't cooked it long enough. I will give them the benefit of the doubt, and another chance to earn more stars. I am very hopeful that this visit was a fluke. However, I will not order the Sesame Tofu again, because I did not care for the bland sauce. Next time, I will call in my order and ask if they can make Kung Po Tofu (-- or another tofu dish. other than the Sesame Tofu). It is my sincere hope that an adult will answer the phone and give me a different answer than the young girl gave me today when I asked. .......To be continued after my next visit.... here's hoping that my next order has perfectly cooked tofu! read more

Leaving a review because I noticed Peking Gourmet doesn't have any yet! This place is GOOD. Really nice service over the phone. Large servings for the price and for dinner (probably lunch too) they offer a choice of white or fried rice. Tasty appetizers too. Location is your typical walk-up Chinese restaurant so we got takeout. But definitely enjoyed everything so far and can't wait to go back. read more
