How have I not eaten at JF before?! I feel like I have been missing out. I visited on a Saturday for lunch and sat at the bar. The whole place feels quaint and local, yet refined and classy. First off I love that it's a full service bar and eating at the bar is no problem. Second I absolutely love they sell pitchers of beer. Not many taps, but still pitchers. And it's mostly local beer. I was with my husband and we wanted to try several things and took recs from the bartender who was awesome. We ordered the pork dumplings, the scallion pancake and the spicy sichuan hot karaage rice bowl. And we made it a combo with miso soup and an egg roll for $4. The pork dumplings were SO good. I could eat a meal of those alone. They were dense and flavorful and the dipping sauce was slightly spicy. The scallion pancake was a surprise delight. It was crispy and not too greasy again with a delicious dipping sauce. The miso soup...chefs kiss. It looked like ordinary miso soup but there was something extra that we really loved!! And the egg roll was big and juicy and fried and wonderful. It's a veggie egg roll but don't let that fool you. So much flavor and again the sweet chili dipping sauce left us drooling. Most of those sauces are too sweet but this was the perfect blend and the perfect spice level. The rice bowl was full of flavor!! The spice on this is quite a lot so make sure you can handle heat if you order the "hot" version. But again lots of flavor not just hot. Thank god we didn't order anymore food because this was plenty for the two of us to leave full and honestly we could've had leftovers. My friends and I enjoyed a tasty dinner here on a bustling Saturday night. For a group of 4, the waiter recommended 6-8 dishes which was just the right amount. We started with the Vaya Con Dios frozies, which was dangerously tasty and reminiscent of an Asian twist on a pina colada. We ordered the corn bread, which was a great mix between southern style corn bread with spring onion butter, gouda, and honey. The size was slightly larger than an Eggo waffle and was a good portion between 4 people. The karaage was also tasty, with huge chicken portions and a sauce that included lemon mayonnaise and a tasty soy-sauce mix. Not to be outdone, the pork dumplings were a delicious mix of potato, leek, brown butter, and yuzu, and the market veggies were a bit tangy with dill, mint, and more. The fried rice and bucatini were yummy carb additions as well. This place is on the slightly nicer side with a gorgeous interior ambiance, and as a bonus had plenty of vegetarian dishes as well. Asian food traditionalists will think I'm blasphemous for saying this, but I liked the food at Jackrabbit Filly. All the dishes we ordered, from the miso soup and pierogis with salsa macha, to the karaage-don and peanut noodles, were savory and satisfying to eat. The texture and appearance of the chicken for the karaage-don bore more of a resemblance to General Tso's chicken with its battered and crunchy exterior, and it didn't quite have the tender and juicy interior I was hoping for, but I enjoyed the lemon mayo pairing which resulted in a flavorful finish. The Peanut Noodles reminded me of certain iterations of Dan Dan Noodles and certainly tasted fine on its own, but adding the thick chunks of bacon/pork belly was essential in elevating this dish to the next level. The restaurant was very lively on a Thursday afternoon, and the staff very warm and inviting throughout our meal. My drink hit the mark for me, and I found the cocktail menu fun and creative. In fact, I would say "fun and creative" summed up our overall experience at Jackrabbit Filly. This is a difficult review to write.. while I've wanted to try Jackrabbit Filly for a long long time.. sadly it fell flat for me. The vibe ambiance and service here are all above par. Staff were great The vibe was electric and the decor intimate & cozy but casual. However, my four star rating is based on the dishes... They just didn't do it for me.. I felt that they all had the same seasoning.. the vermicelli was different in that it had an aroma of gas... weird. The tempura mushrooms.. felt like the dregs from the fryer... no mushrooms.. The chicken portions in the Karaage was just too big. Decided to finally check out the much raved jackrabbit filly for my fiancés belated birthday dinner after hearing so many people recommend the place! Although the ambiance and food itself was good, we were seated by a VERY loud party of over 8 people making it very hard for me to listen to my fiancé and I's conversation. Coming from a very Asian dense neighborhood in Boston, I found myself saying I had enjoyed more the food from back home at hole in the wall mom and pop restaurants than my dining experience here. Garlicky Cucumbers: Just okay, but I wouldn't order them again. A miss for me. Beef Dumplings: Best thing we had, would honestly go back just for these. Shrimp Wonton Soup: The dumplings were solid, but the broth leaned too vinegar-forward for my taste. Shepherd's Pie: Good flavor, but zero pork. It was basically greens... and more greens. They have a 1.5 hour limit. We went for dinner and got there early to see if we could be seated early (we were already in the area). They said they would have to see and had us wait (which since we were early- I understood- but the dining areas were empty). Waiter was kind. Recommended sharing 3-4 plates for 2 people. So this time when I made reservation, I did not understand why the GPS was giving me these directions, and that is when I found out they moved that is so cool. My son and his girlfriend moved to Charleston and this was high on my list of places to go on my first visit after watching Top Chef! The atmosphere was great and everyone was super friendly! We started with espresso martinis and they were delicious. Our waitress walked us through the menu, which was very helpful. Our favorites were shrimp wontons, karaage chicken and the pork dumplings. We really liked everything we tried though, so I don't think you can go wrong! As an added bonus, we saw Shuai Wang! I was so excited and asked if he would take a picture with me. Another excellent meal from jackrabbit filly! This was our first time in their new spot, and it is so spacious and beautiful. But their food is still to die for, like always! We were seated immediately and our waiter walked us through the menu. They always have fun cocktails and a great beer/wine list. My husband ordered the let's get tropical cocktail and it was so delicious. We ordered 6 food items to share between 3 of us and they were all excellent! The corn fritters were the dark horse in our spread as it was almost an afterthought but holy cow they were *chefs kiss.* perfectly buttery and salty and was a nice "side item" to order. The crispy potatoes were great with the oyster sauce, and the dumplings and pierogis were perfection. The karaage chicken is always a must, and the cold peanut noodles were excellent too! It sold me on always making it a combo as I would hate to miss out in the goodies in the future. If you're just getting off work, JF offers Golden Hour full of small bites and delicious cocktails to hold you over till dinner. My favorite dinner items are any rotating special, tuna tartare with Texas toast, karaage, dumplings, and the seasonal fried rice. There are 3 main seating areas. The private back seating area great for large parties. The front dining room where you can see the gorgeous lantern displays. Last, the bar and high top booth sections. I walked into Jackrabbit Filly honestly not knowing it was Chinese fusion. Normally that would've been a pass for me. Growing up, I ate a lot of Chinese food, so when I travel I usually try to go in a completely different direction. I just wasn't in the mood for something that felt familiar or repetitive. This ended up being the complete opposite of what I expected. There's something different about how they approach the food here. It's not trying too hard to reinvent anything, but it also doesn't feel like standard Chinese takeout or even typical restaurant versions. It felt like they took the foundation I'm used to and just elevated or deviated it in a way that made me actually pay attention to each dish. The tempura mushrooms were the first thing that hit. Super crispy, light, and packed with flavor without feeling greasy. Seriously, i dont recall seeing greasy fingers! I didn't expect mushrooms to be one of the highlights, but they absolutely were. The pork dumplings were solid and did exactly what they needed to do. Good texture, good flavor, nothing overly complicated. Then the Sichuan Hot Karaage came out and that's where things shifted a bit. It's basically fried chicken, but with a real Sichuan style heat that actually comes through. Not just spicy for the sake of it, but layered with flavor. You can tell they put thought into balancing it instead of just throwing heat on top. The garlic fried rice was the dish that surprised me the most. Fried rice is something I've had countless times growing up, so I wasn't expecting much. Somehow, it ended up being my favorite. It had that deep garlic flavor without being overpowering, and everything about it just worked. It's one of those dishes you keep going back to without even thinking about it. Overall, this was one of those meals where I came in with low expectations and left actually impressed. Maybe they were having a bad day the last (and final ) time I was there. I've eaten here before and everything was fine. I don't think it lives up to the hype but people like going to a celebrity chef restaurant. So we went there for lunch on a Saturday. They were not busy. I ordered the peanut noodles. ($17) with shrimp ($8). My companion got the shrimp salad sandwich. The food comes, the waiter drops it and takes off, and I look at the dish and there's no shrimp. It took about 10 minutes to get his attention, and when he finally came by I pointed out the problem, and he went off to the kitchen to get the shrimp, leaving my bowl of rapidly cooling noodles on the table. He brought back a plate with several pallid damp shrimp, and handed it to me. So I dumped the shrimp on the now mostly congealed noodles and dived in. The noodles tasted like your basic boxed pasta. I found several pieces of wilted scallions, and some mushy broccoli. The peanut sauce, if there were peanuts in it, was milky, watery and only vaguely tasted like peanuts. I ate the shrimp and the small amount of vegetables and left the rest. This cost $25. Maybe if they had charged more they could've afforded some spice in it to put in it. Honestly, I could have made this at home, and I'm no chef. The shrimp salad sandwich consisted of about a quarter of an inch of shrimp spread in between maybe 2 inches of bread. The spread was tasty, but in order to get a good bite, my companion took all the spread from one side and put it on the other to thicken it up. In retrospect, I should've politely told the server that the food was really bad and sent it back to the kitchen. However I did not want to distress my dining companion. The next time any of my friends, relatives, or visitors, want to go to this celebrity chef restaurant, I will decline. You'll find me at the Asian fusion buffet on Sam Rittenberg. read more

We heard about this place from some friends and had to check it out when we were back in town; and I'm so glad we did! We booked our reservations as soon as they were available and were promptly seated upon arrival. Our server quickly greeted us and was attentive throughout the meal. The inside is Asian inspired with wood touches and a loud atmosphere. It makes you feel like you're at a family function enjoying dinner with friends. Their menu is served family style for all their items and since it was 6 of us; we tried a lot of them. I won't go through each one but my favorite items were: Both chicken Karaages. The original is more lemon forward and the hot isn't too spicy but lets the heat notes come through. The sauces on both were amazing. Pineapple Fried Rice. Truly flavorful and well worth the hype. We recently went to dinner Jackrabbit Filly and, food-wise, it truly delivered. We had the tuna tartare, bread service, pork wontons, karaage chicken, Sichuan potatoes, corn fritters, and charred cabbage -- and everything was thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. The tuna tartar and karaage chicken were especially standout dishes, and the corn fritters were amazing. However, the service left a lot to be desired -- and that matters just as much as the food, especially when allergies are involved. My son has a severe tree nut allergy, and when we asked our server what nuts were in the carrot dish (since he can have peanuts), she didn't know. She then said "tree nuts," but when pressed for specifics, she listed pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds, which aren't nuts at all. That level of confusion is unacceptable when someone's life could be on the line. The menu simply marks dishes with an "N" for nuts, which is far too vague for diners with allergies. It needs to specify what kind of nut, not just toss a blanket label on it. To make matters worse, the server seemed visibly annoyed that we were asking. That kind of attitude is unacceptable in any restaurant, let alone one with a strong reputation. On top of that, the place is extremely loud to the point where conversation was difficult. In short: the food is creative and delicious, but the service and allergy awareness need serious improvement. Was able to snag a reservation for a Friday evening at 6pm for two. Two hostesses were extremely welcoming when we walked in and sat us immediately (15 min early). Waiter was attentive and recommended a variety of options from the menu. We chose the salad, chicken, gnocchi, bao, and pork dumplings. The Bao was out of this world. Would come back specifically for those. Also the crispy salad I kept coming back for. So good. The chicken was excellent, and the dumplings were very good. If I am being 100% honest, this restaurant was a massive letdown from the hype it received. I came in with pretty high expectations and left quite disappointed. We ordered several meals, and almost every item was bad. We first started with their spicy Korean pierogis. The pierogies themselves tasted frozen and a little tough, and covering it in gochujang just felt off. The dish does actually meld together well, and I think it would be a pretty big improvement if the pierogies themselves were filled with something else to giveit more of a Korean flare. Maybe some radish or bean sprouts or a mild kimchi. We then got the chirashi bowl. The ball itself was kind of a mess and once again, did not seem to go together that well. Flavor wise was OK, but proportions were also off. The veggie egg roll is decent but very small. Pretty crispy and comes with a sweet-and-sour sauce. The filling is pretty empty. I would suggest that it is actually filled normally and potentially 50% bigger for the price being charged. The carrot coconut soup was just bad. Coconut flavor is almost indistinguishable. If they had added something a little acidic and spicy to the soup, that would've also elevated it. Suggestions would be a little bit of fish sauce and some chili flakes. Last, we got the chicken kaarage don. This was probably the least enjoyable of the dishes. The breading on the chicken was very soft instead of crunchy, the meet itself was pretty tough and chewy, and the flavor left a lot to be desired. It was also disproportionally overshadowed by a lot of rice. The rice as well was a little stale and hard. On a different note, parking is pretty difficult. All of the free street parking is full for several blocks around meal times. I had to find parking on a side street a few blocks away in an adjacent neighborhood. As much as I was looking forward to enjoying this restaurant, I can't give this a higher rating. Again, staff were friendly and the design of the restaurant is really nice. But unfortunately, food is most important and was the biggest letdown. read more

Somehow I have made it, what, years (??) without writing a review for JRF. As a massive fan, I am appalled that I haven't shared my experiences. First and foremost, I love these people. Corrie, Shuai, and all of their staff are some of the nicest and hardest working folks around! I come here a lot (like, a lot a lot) and every time I've been here, the staff is happy and chatty (even when they are slammed) and you can see the hustle! The whole place is just a vibe and I'm here for it. Secondly - they have some bomb cocktails. Seriously. They somehow have the most unique combinations that also end up being crowd pleasers. It's not uncommon for me and my friends to order a handful of drinks with dinner and we all try each others - even the ones I wouldn't order myself are still incredibly well balanced (I just prefer their crushable section over the boozy section). Finally, their food is phenomenal. I have my favorites (fish tartare, karaage, the new spicy garlic shrimp dish, dumplings) but everything is always so, so flavorful!
