My go to for Chinese food and take out. Been going there for a few years, consistently good.

First off, food is good so my complaint here has nothing to do with that. Service was good too, for the most part. When my food was ready the lady asks me what sauce I want. I told her I would like 4-5 packs of soy sauce. She asks me, just soy sauce? I said yes, only soy sauce. She then turns around and grabs two packs of soy and two packs of duck.... Why the F even bother asking me if you're just going to do what you want anyhow? I take very serious issue with this. Drives me crazy! Came out to Charleston for a concert and stopped here for dinner. My husband and I both got a combination plate and some crab ragoons and chicken wings on the side. We sat down to eat, everything was fresh and delicious! Seating area is small but the food is worth it. Definitely recommend! read more

While Clements Ferry is growing, there's not many options for a quick bite to eat. My buddy lives down the street and we called in a pickup order for lunch. We placed the order and went to pickup ten minutes later. Right away we noticed their takeout setup for covid that they built. It's similar to a drive up bank or a late night gas station were they open a door on their end to put the food in, then you open on your end to collect it... as well as payment ect. They have a table outside with menus taped to it and pens for you to use to sign the CC slip. It was elaborate and well thought out. I had the sweet and sour chicken with fried rice and some wanton soup. Everything was pretty good an on par with plenty of other similar chinese places in the area. While it is average, the location is key if you're in the area and looking for anything other than fast food. read more

This restaurant has some of the best Chinese takeout because 1. the dishes are loaded with vegetables and 2. the shrimp used is so meaty and delicious (which is better quality than the average shrimp in any restaurant)! I've tried 3 different shrimp dishes that meet those points. The service is efficient for calling to place an order to pick up. read more

Fortune cookies are good - that's it though - egg rolls were dripping grease from them - rice is an odd orange color and has a crazy amount of onion in it - the honey chicken was just fried batter little to no chicken. A positive was the temperature of all of the food was piping hot. We are regretting our choice to try this restaurant and will not be trying it again. read more

For a cheap, quick lunch over by Daniel island, you cannot beat Tokyo Express. I LOVE coming here. Sure, the inside is a little shabby and there is limited seating. They also have a GIANT menu with no descriptions. But, they make up for it with cheap, quick lunches and white sauce by the squeeze bottle ( a nice touch, not having to pay for extras...) While I don't love the shrimp (Hello....we live in Charleston, I like fresh shrimp) I do enjoy the Hibachi Chicken with white rice. Their egg drop soup is a little lacking, but I promise you, you won't regret eating here. It is definitely a regular stop of ours when we are out and about on the weekends. They offer both Japanese and Chinese dishes, as well as a few American meals (chicken fingers come to mind). Yum! read more

Had Pineapple Chicken from here on a whim last night. Asked for no peppers or carrots. It was sooo good. I decided a quick lunch was in order. Chicken stick and egg drop soup today. Fast and easy. This is my fav Chinese place. Mainly because of the house fried rice. Service is fairly quick and the price is that of a typical Chinese restaurant. They also serve habachi which isn't bad at all. Being that this ain't area doesn't have many restaurants if your in need of lunch or a quick meal I definitely recommend. read more

Just good everyday Chinese...The food is well worth the money not gourmet, but good and plenty to have leftovers for work the next day... Where I work, we are pretty limited on our lunch options so my co-worker and I order often from this place. Is it the best, nah but it is decent. I should really give it 3.5 stars because due to how frequent we order from here but the scoring system does not allow it. It's your typical Chinese to go place with dine in option. They have a good selection of lunch specials starting at 6.25 per order. I normally get the chicken curry, the chicken lo mien, or the shang-hi pancit noodles. My co-worker loves the boneless bbq pork over rice and the lunch special hibachi. You get free sweet tea with your lunch orders. They are pretty quick and can get busy during lunch hour. read more

Did take out for lunch. I had General Tso chicken and my wife had a noodle dish with chicken and shrimp and a light flavoring of curry. Hers was very good (we shared) but my General Tso's was mushy - both the rice and the chicken. The pricing was inexpensive and it was prepared quickly. They had some tables there but best for lunch or to take out it seemed. We'd try it again and keep our fingers crossed. read more

I hate to give it a 2 because the food was good. However, the restaurant was a little dirty, the tables weren't wiped down well and you could smell old seafood. I liked the food but was a little turned off by the cleanliness. I would suggest take out. read more

Quint-essential NYC style Chinese restaurant. The food is excellent, the staff isn't overly friendly and the restaurant isn't meant to be sat in for hours to eat. Really the closest I've had to what I grew up on. Only drawback is the lack of delivery. Hopefully someday! read more

WARNING! DO NOT EAT AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT! Not only was the food absolutely disgusting but within one hour of eating I was sick, vomiting and not to mention the other end in the bowl, violently! I was so disgusted I began to wipe down the areas where my children sat. THE STAFF, these ppl are the most rudest ppl I've ever met. Not only did she get my order wrong but when I corrected her she spoke in her language and i knew bad words that were said pertaining to me correcting her. I spent 78 dollars and she was more preoccupied on charging me for sauces that actually come with the dish. We ordered steamed dumplings and the were so disgusting It tasted like the inside was rancid. The chicken soup, tastes like literally dish water inedible! The chicken Mei Fun only contained 3 ingredient ; no chicken, no carrots , no onions and what was supposed to he rice noodles was actually angel-hair pasta !! WTF ! When the food was brought to the table she was on her phone and was annoyed when I asked her if I could have 2 packets of the duck sauce which I wanted to eat with the egg roll I bought which was the only thing I would tolerate eating at this point. 7/17/2012 - I found out that there was a typo on the menu and white rice does NOT come with the Moo shu chicken. So, the order accuracy is actually a lot better than a 2. So, I would give this place a 4.5 stars out of 5, but YELP doesn't let you give a 1/2 star. The staff is very friendly and we have not ordered from another Chinese restaurant in Charleston since Tokyo Express opened. read more

Tokyo Express is great for what it is. It's fast food Hibachi, and in my opinion it's done well. I work and live on Clements Ferry Rd so I'm constantly nearby. I always get the Hibachi Chicken entree and request only carrots and zucchini as my veggies. They get my order correct every time and don't charge me any extra for my special request. The good: The location and food. Located on Clements Ferry Road, it gives me an option for lunch/dinner without having to get on a highway or going to DI or MT. P. The food is also above average for your typical Chinese take-out spot. I'm a big fan of General Tso's chicken, lo mien and egg rolls, and Tokyo Express does it very well. Have also had their chicken wings, which were surprising good. The bad: Cleanliness and changing prices. I've only gotten take-out but the waiting area (which includes the drink station) could use a bit more upkeep. Dirty floors and unstocked condiments should be an easy fix. Also, maybe it's just me but it seems like they change their prices often and it never matches their menu cost. Nothing major, but just find it odd. read more
