By far the best Chinese restaurant in town - I've lived in Midlothian for years now, and in 2020 when I first dined at Peking, I won't lie and say I loved it; at first, it was mediocre. Over time however, the food and service have increased in quality, and I can now say that I would prefer this restaurant over anywhere else. I get takeout from Peking often, and the fried rice and honey chicken, my go to order, never disappoints. Additionally, whenever I treat myself and get the peking duck, the skin in crispy and the meat is juicy. Not only is the food great, but the ambiance is wonderful too. The atmosphere is great with Chinese art and jade statues lining the restaurant. Also, the booths and chairs are quite comfortable. Overall, I think Peking is a GREAT restaurant, and I highly advise you to visit if you're in the area. read more

I've had the fried rice, beef LO Mein, spring rolls, steamed dumplings, and wonton soup (which comes with the BEST "crunchies," as my family would call them). Everything I've tried has been great! We had dined in a couple of times, liked it. This time we did takeout. Terrible. Hot & sour soup. Not spicy at all, and loaded with large pieces of mushroom. Moo shu pork. When i was placing the order there was an option for pancakes at extra cost ... we usually don't have enough so i added that. Glad i did, we only got 4 total, which makes me think none come with the basic order. They included a very small container of plum sauce, and it was as thin as soy sauce. The pork filling was rather bland. Hunan beef. It had a chili on the menu to say it was spicy. It wasn't, not at all. And it came with a heavy dose of broccoli. Every Sunday we go to the awesome and delicious buffet. Everything they serve on the buffet is perfectly cooked and stays hot and awesome the whole time you are there to eat. First time visit here and it was a very good experience. We were there for lunch and sampled the appetizer platter and the crab puffs. The platter was very good and priced nice for what you got. The ribs on the platter were so yummy and tender. The crab puffs did not come out with the appetizer and that was a bummer but when they came with our lunch they were hot and delicious. Lunch specials are an awesome value. Service was attentive and polite. Will definitely be coming back to try dinner. We are so angry! We had planned on having a nice Christmas lunch but there was a huge error on their part. We showed the server the lunch menu and actually pointed to our choices. When we got our bill we were charged the full dinner price. When when we told the server this she said she would have to get her boss and the woman that came to our table said that they served us large portions and they always have a dinner menu on holidays. However there was no sign or information indicating that was true. It was ultimately the server's responsibility since we had actually physically pointed to the lunch menu. This second woman said she would have to go talk to her boss and the man never came out to see us he was hiding in the back. The second woman was visibly upset and said I just work here but the best that she could do and it was her decision that she would take 20% off. This was very upsetting if we had known from the outset that it was a full price no matter what time today we would have been informed but there was no signage or no information. We have enjoyed their food before but this incident upset us terribly and caused a big rift in my husband's and my day. We even double checked on the way out and the only thing regarding a holiday was that they were doing regular hours of service on the holiday nothing about special prices for the holiday so just be aware that they have a cheating attitude. read more

I went to New Peking several weeks ago and ordered the cashew chicken which, by far, was the most disgusting plate of food I've ever seen. It literally looked as if they took the leftovers from the previous diners and put it on my plate. The water chestnuts were indistinguishable from the celery and the color of the chicken looked as if the chicken died a horrible death months ago. I have always truly enjoyed peking restuarant and have gone for manager years since it was the only Chinese restaurant that I could comfortably goto with seafood allergies. I know they went under new ownership a couple of years ago, I wanted to cry when the new manager told me. Well today was my first day ordering in a couple of years and I not happy. I'm in the hospital and ordered several items for delivery. One of the entrees was sweet and sour chicken with no onions. I received it full of onions. I called the restaurant and the young lady who answered said it didnt contain onions. My nurse yelled yes it does. Then they wanted to give me a credit instead of a new order. This review is solely regarding the Sunday Lunch Buffet offered at this restaurant. The Good: Price- The price for the Sunday Lunch Buffet is between $12- $13. Included in the buffet is a soft drink of your choice, champagne if you want, unlimited soup and the food items to include dessert. For that price, its the best buffet bargain in my opinion. Variety- Some of the hot menu items on the buffet include chicken wings, chicken on a stick, sweet and sour chicken, imperial chicken, beef and broccoli, veggie lo mein, string beans, fried rice and a few other items. For dessert they offer ice cream, fruit and toppings to go on the ice cream. Service- One of the best servers there is Sue. She is quick, efficient and will get you whatever you need with a smile on her face. She also remembers your order if you are a repeat customer. The Not So Good: Taste- The food on the buffet is not bad, but its not of the quality of top tier Chinese spots that I've been to. The sodas are also slightly watered down. Overall- While the quality of food is not the best, there arent too many other places that you could go to on a Sunday morning/afternoon and pay $12.50 for all you can eat buffet with soda. The very worst I've had in Chinese food. In. My. Life. My husband offered his opinion in few words ... "Inedible" Neither of us finished anything, in fact we hardly started them. Neither the kung pow nor Szechuan (?) Chicken had any spice or flavor, and don't bother with the spring rolls, they're squishy, made in flaky rice paper and flavorless. All in all a 30$ ++ waste. I've been going to this Peking for over 20 years and have enjoyed it in the past. But, it is obvious they changed recipes on some of their dishes and the quality just isn't the same. Tonight we used a Door Dash gift card for pickup, and you could tell they were taking COVID seriously with the precautions they had taken. No indoor dining and the food was waiting at a table at the front door (nobody was allowed inside near the register). We got the pan fried dumplings, hot and sour soup, Mandarin Triple Crown, and Happy Family. The dumplings used to be one of my all time favorite dishes. However, this time the dumpling skin was way too thick, the bottoms of a few of the dumplings were burned, and the dumpling sauce was way too sweet. Very disappointing. The hot and sour soup was very thick, thicker than any I've had at any Chinese restaurant in the past. There was too much sour/vinegar taste and not enough spice. The Mandarin Triple Crown is supposed to have tender pieces of filet mignon, shrimp, and scallops, but the beef didn't taste like beef at all. My wife honestly thought it tasted like lamb and it was extremely chewy. I've had this dish numerous times in the past and never had the beef taste this bad. The Happy Family dish is a combination of multiple meats with veggies, and generally tasted ok. The veggies had a nice bite to them and the meat tasted ok, though the pieces of chicken and pork were too large for a single bite. Unfortunately, I had specially requested this dish spicy, but I'm there wasn't any spice whatsoever. All in all, very disappointing. It pains me to say that we won't be going back. Spouse had the general tso fish that he enjoyed. I had the kung pao shrimp with veggies. The flavor was pretty good and the shrimp were huge (much appreciated). Veggies were snow peas, corn, broccoli, carrots and huge chunks of celery. Did not care for the huge chunks of celery. Took away from the rest of the dish, but otherwise ok. Also had crab Rangoons (although I don't know why we still call this appetizer this because I can never find the crab). They were still some of the better ones I've had. Peking is your standard tasty Chinese restaurant. To be honest, this is saying a lot for the Richmond area. Since moving here, I've had a lot of trouble finding quality Chinese food. There's decent Mexican everywhere, but Chinese is hard to come by. Peking's got the famous Chinese lunch combos featuring all your favorites like Triple Delight, Beef with Broccoli and Moo Goo Gai Pan. I am particularly happy with the texture of the chicken here. The chicken at some Richmond Chinese restaurants has an odd texture. I suspect it's poached, but it just kind of grosses me out. Hence why I often order tofu. Here, I wouldn't hesitate to order any type of meat. The chicken is moist and flavorful, the shrimp is big and the beef is tender. My favorite dishes are the Hunan Chicken, which is your standard variety with mushrooms, broccoli and bamboo shoots in spicy brown sauce. I do like that there are generally plenty of vegetables. I also often order the Ma-Po tofu, which is sauteed, not fried, in a spicy Szechuan sauce. The decor is that of any upscale Chinese joint: white tablecloths and pretty decorations from China. Service is always attentive and friendly. Your water glass always stays full. I will definitely continue to come here for quality Chinese food. read more

I will say this was not my first adventure at Peking - I have visited the location off Broad Street (for which I prefer to dine at). However, being that I was closer to Midlo at the time, I decided to stop in and dine. I was quite impressed with the overall clean factor this place had. For early dinner, there was not a a soul in the place. A lot of locals did come in and placed their orders to-go. I will say one of my favorite parts of dining here was the amazing salt water fish tank. It was very nice to watch while eating dinner. Now, the meal was not on par as the Grove Ave and Broad Street locations have, so I was quite disappointed. My meal was nothing above average and my companion felt the same regarding their meal. I am disappointed in the meal considering the price was a bit steep for Chinese. I have had better dinners and I think I will carry my business elsewhere next time I am craving Hunan Pork or Beef Pepper Steak. read more

I love Peking. I'm not a real fan of Chinese food but this place is real good. My favorites are their orange chicken and the fried dumplings. I had the steam dumplings once but didn't care for it. The wonton soup was good too. The waiters and waitresses are very friendly and the place is very clean and neat but I often wondered why they they don't give us any knives. This is my favorite run-of-the-mill Americanized Chinese restaurant in the Midlothian area. The reason? They have the right idea when it comes to following special instructions on your order. Every other Chinese restaurant in the area, such as Fortune Bowl, Zheng Garden, Yen Ching doesn't really cut that much sauce out (or seemingly none at all, even when they agree to do so after finally understanding what I'm saying) when I ask for half sauce or one-fourth sauce. The difference is apparent. Peking does a great job with this and really helps me to reduce the amount of salt I intake when I eat Chinese food. I can expect a reasonably healthy meal if I'm in the mood for Chinese from Peking, yet it's still made with enough sauce coating it to give you the flavor. read more
