I was visiting San Juan for a few days and I stumbled upon this nice ramen shop. The service was attentive and polite, the atmosphere was nice and the restaurant was very clean. I had a bowl of shoyu ramen. I didn't see tonkotsu on the menu, which is my go to, but I really enjoyed what I ordered. The broth was fine (enjoyed having a piece of lemon in the bowl to add a little brightness). The egg was out of this world. It's a shame it comes with only half a seasoned egg. The noodles were outrageously good. They are made in house. These were the best ramen noodles I've ever had. The pork and chicken were just okay. Still, I was satisfied and happy when I left.
Peko Peko came highly recommended, so tried it for a late lunch. Started with the Karage which is their Japanese crispy chicken and it was so good we ordered a second order. While waiting for entrees, I was surprised to see a robot waiter delivering foods to other table. Interesting! For entree, I ordered the PakoMen. It was plentiful, and I almost ate it all. Adding egg to it was a good call but it would have been fine without it.
Food (5/5 stars): Our collective favorite food is ramen, so we had to try Peko Peko in San Juan. I don't usually get Shoyu Ramen but really enjoyed it. My 3 highlights were the egg, noodles, and broth. The ramen egg was runny and cooked to perfection. I loved the thinness of the noodles and the broth had such a nice light, umami flavor that I don't get with my typical tonkotsu broth. The meat was great but so thinly sliced, leaving me wanting more. Overall, delicious bowl of ramen! Experience (4/5 stars): * Price: pretty expensive * Wait Time: minimal for a party of 2 on a Saturday for dinner * Service: a little slow at first but overall good and friendly * Parking: street parking was super tough, so we parked in a lot that costed $3 * Ambiance: it's a very nice, modern restaurant!
Food was very tasty. I loved the Oshare Mazenen, a brothless ramen with garlic and parmesan sauce, chicken and pork chashu, egg, and veggies. I had never had brothless ramen before so that was nice. My husband's Kurimi and Spicy Ramen was also good, although I thought it was too creamy for my taste. Overall, our appetizers were also good. Our favorite were the shishito peppers. As for the Krazy Kani, which were tostones with spicy kani, tuna, and avocado, we thought it was okay. Nothing wow. I also liked the Chicha Morada and Chicha Shoko. They were two drinks. The Chicha Morada was non-alcoholic, the Chicha Shoko had alcohol. It tasted similar to sangria. As good as the food was, I didn't like the extremely slow service. We waited over an hour outside when originally we were told 30min. After we were seated, it took nearly another hour for our food to arrive. Customers would finish eating and even after the table was cleaned, it would sit there vacant for a while before somebody from outside was called in. Not sure what was up with that. It was frustrating. Good thing the food was very good. Also, the ramen here is pricier than at other restaurants that serve ramen in PR.
Parking is along the Main Street or on the side street in-between the food trucks and the restaurant. We made a reservation which was fulfilled on time. The servers were attentive with filling up water glasses and removing items from the table. The drinks are expensive which is understandable due to the importing fees... both the sake and Japanese beers tasted fresh and were tasty. The soup took 1.5 hours.... This was crazy to all of us for many reasons. The restaurant isn't that big, the meat in the soup looks similar to the slices of meat that you get inside of a lunchable, and the noodles are not authentic ramen noodles. The restaurant claims they are "authentic" however the noodles are fresh spaghetti noodles, not ramen. I tried the kurimi and spicy and the broth was heavy but maintained the perfect amount of spice. There was a slice of lemon in the ramen which is extremely unnecessary and the soft boiled eggs could've been marinated longer. I do not plan on returning for expensive inauthentic ramen.
Peko Peko started out a few years ago as a food truck. I believe it was in 2020 that they transitioned into the brick and mortar location they now have. It is located next to the Miramar Food Truck Park and across from the Conservatorio de Música. There is no parking, only street parking. The restaurant specializes in ramen. They have a couple of PR/Japanese fusion appetizers but the main course is only ramen. They even make their own noodles. You can even see the process from behind glass. The restaurant is very small, making it not stroller friendly. Not sure if they have a kid's menu. Our son had the Karaage which was the only item he would eat. So I guess maybe it is not that kid friendly(?), unless your kid likes ramen. Alcohol wise, they have a few beer options, wine, and sake. Try the Chicha Shoko. It is a cocktail made with sake and tastes a bit like sangria. Since it is so small, it can affect the wait time to get a table. We went on a Tuesday evening. It was an excerise in patience. The reward, though, for our patience was a delicious bowl of ramen. We checked in and were told the wait would be around 30min.... (French accent) one hour later.... We were still waiting outside. My kid fell asleep. I had to carry him and I was getting tired. We were finally seated. We started out with Krazy Kani, Shishito Peppers, and Karaage for our son who had just woken up. The shishito peppers were excellent. Some had lots of seeds which made them spicy. The Krazy Kani was decent. I've had better Asian/PR fusion dishes before elsewhere, so I wouldn't order it again. The Karaage was good. For our ramen, my wife went with the Oshare Mazemen, a brothless ramen. It was very good and the presentation was nice. The same went for my ramen, the Kurimi and Spicy. It was a thick, creamy, although not spicy (at least for my taste) broth. The noodles for both dishes were perfect. Our server (can't remember her name) was friendly. But our food did take a while to come out. We also noticed other tables waiting a lot for their food. The family next to us got their dishes one at a time. Overall, the experience was a mixed bag. The wait time to be seated and get our food was awful, but the ramen was among the best I've had in PR. That is why I am giving it 4 stars and not 3. I would eat from here again. Keep in mind, not everyone has this experience. There were some people who checked in after us and got seated before us. They certainly won't complain. The owner did go table to table apologizing for the delays. However, this seems like a running theme. I have met others with the same complaint: great ramen (although pricey), slow service. The solution they have resorted to is takeout. I know ramen (or any soup) is risky when it comes to takeout/delivery, but I think I will experiment with that next time.
A good vibe, and I came on a big holiday here in San Juan. Día de los Tres Reyes Magos (Three Kings Day or Epiphany). A bit quiet and easy to get a seat - I was told by the friendly staff. Has a modern feel. Kind of a boutique coffee shop feel. Music, seats, the staff working right in front preparing your ramen. The ramen is very good! Thought difficult to find one here in San Juan. Doable. And the Karage, yummy. A bit salty, but these days, I am reducing on salt, and hence could be the reason.

Food here always slaps, great taste and texture like Japan. Location is kind of small, the only bad thing is the parking, but aside from that service is great as well and clean. It's been 4 years since I was last here and it's still how I remember it. Decoration is awesome with Darumas and a ver elegant Noodle Dragon art piece in the bar. I ordered the Niku-Suki Ramen with spicy, and Karage (Tip: I prefer the Spicy Mayo for the Karage than the Katsu Sauce they give now). All very delicious. 10/10 read more

Service was good. Restaurant interior was inviting and clean. I got the Tonkatsu ramen. The noodles tasted good And texture chewy, broth is tasty and thick but the soup was served lukewarm. The half boiled egg and sliced meat were cold. I spoke to the manager and he went to discuss it with his staff. After I told them I do not need a new bowl of ramen they still gave me another bowl with piping hot broth. Due to this attentiveness by the manager/owner in addressing the issue, I am giving them 3 stars instead Of 2. read more

As a vegetarian, this was one of my favorite places to eat while I was visiting the island. It's a bit more expensive than you would find on the US mainland, but I understand because it's not common in PR. While you're here check out the food truck park across the street. read more

We had a great evening eating dinner at Peko Peko. We started with a Parcharindo Shoko and Guayaba to cool down with the Korrokes de jamón. We had the San Juan Trio Mazemen and Mazemen for the main course. Excellent! read more

Parking was challenging and the ramen was obscenely expensive but it was so worth it. My favorite Ramen when I lived in Japan was Tenkaippin and the Kurumi and Spicy I ordered was as close as I could have imagined. Perfect and thanks Chef for getting it so right. read more
Wow, didn't expect that. Yummy ramen in PR. The broth is clear, fresh and flavorful. Both of our ramen choices has very distinctive broth. The price is a little pricey but their setting is aiming to higher marker IMO. After eating a lot of fried stuffs in pR, a bowl with right on point broth is a cure to us. read more

I went to this place for the first time with my partner. The noodles here are out of this world, you also get to jam to awesome japanese tunes while eating. Definitely recommend this one for all the noodle lovers out there. read more

The restaurant follows all Covid protocols, staff was very friendly and space is amazing. Food was yummy and was served very quick. Drinks are also good, but wished for a bigger selection of them. One of the best ramens I've had in Puerto Rico, definitely will come again. read more

Peko Peko, which means "The Sound of Hunger" in Japanese, is more then a ramen shop, it is an amazing and delicious experience that I really recommend. The place is beautiful, and they are following all COVID-19 guidelines. As a vegetarian in Puerto Rico I can say that this place has something to offer for everyone. I had the vegetarian version of the Vegan Paitan and my partner had the Oshare Mazemen, my dish was delicious, I really really liked it, my partner reported his plate was super yum. For drinks we had the Chicha Morada and it was so good we had two portions. Service was fast, professional and attentive, really informed about the menu, and about what can the restaurant offer you. The main chef checked on the tables as well, and asked how was everything, that's a beautiful gesture we no longer see in restaurants, and I mean like, even before COVID. There's plenty of parking in the street and the area is really safe as it is nearby other restaurants and consignments that are located within the same area. Awesome ramen, especially because of the noodles they make themselves, and the coconada (coconut water and lemonade) seems like a weird combination but it's really tasty read more

I have a high tolerance for spicy food and even with the addition of spice twice at extra cost (thrice, considering that this is already supposed to be spicy)--it still wasn't spicy enough. But it was delicious, and that is what this rating is about. The noodles seemed fresh, the broth was thick and creamy, and the meat wasn't too heavy. I finished the entire bowl. A bit on the pricier side, but a worthy occasional indulgence. (I paid $26 for just this bowl after the two spice add-ons and taxes) read more
