We bought a pound of grouper from their clean fish market. All fresh caught fish from local fishermen. Baked in the oven this evening. I seasoned it well first with kosher salt, top, and bottom. Placed it in an oven safe dish lightly oiled. Mixed cumin, paprika(1/4 teaspoon ) and 1/2 teaspoon oregano Mixed together. Rubbed mixture on both sides. Crushed two garlic cloves and evenly spread it across the top. After a drizzle of lemon juice and two serving spoons of diced tomatoes placed in preheated oven 400 degree, middle rack for 20 minutes. I don't know what happened. We used to be a weekly patron, especially for their smoked salmon. The guys that used to be there were always so welcoming and friendly but that has changed, for the worst! The guys that are there now don't even ask if you need help, they look right in your face, don't say hello and just stand there looking stupid. If you want something or have a question, you almost feel like you're ruining their day. It never used to smell like dead fish in there and now, every time we go it stinks of dead fish. Something labeled as "Conch Chowder" was the most disgusting collection of unchewable unidentifiable mass I was forced to spit out and a day later still triggers a gag reflex yet Pelican's self described "Chef" is so proud have copied from someone. ' My apology for having good taste and having enjoyed excellent Conch chowder. When you get some put me down for a double order. Eric. Bought Black Seabass to fry. Got it home and it was full of bones. Called the store and they made us come all the way back to the store to have them debone it. Wouldn't reweight it after and we're extremely rude. I hardly got any fish back. RIDICULOUS!! This fish was very expensive to be full of bones and they were filets!! They obviously don't know what they are doing. 100% WOULD NOT recommend. Dont waste your money read more

I tried pelican seafood before and after hurricane Mathew in 2016. The crab cakes, shrimp were both very well kept. I did not get the chance to try the fresh catch seafood or the lobster. However, I'm thinking of making another trip that direction soon, hopefully tomorrow. read more

Unbelievable. We called ahead, prior to heading out, to confirm the $13.99 per pound sale price on their lobster. We arrived, in store, 30 minutes after having confirmed the sale price of $13.99 per pound for lobster. The manager on duty, today, 12-30-2020 refused to honor the sale price, provided to us, less than 45 minutes before, claiming the sale price can end "at any time";it gets worse, that same manager then said "I can tell you were to go". I thanked him and said yes, please do let me know where it's on sale; he said no, you misunderstand "I'm telling to to get out of the store". The spineless coward was angry with me, for refusing to honor a sale price, that was confirmed, by the store, literally minutes before our arrival. Pelican Seafood will fulfill your seafood craving. This is a butcher, not a restaurant. I went in not planning to buy anything as I was stuffed with seafood from Chuck's across the bridge. I walked around and saw the fresh salmon that was behind the glass and I had to get it. Needless to say, I was very impressed by the quality of it. Made Teriyaki Salmon out of it and the taste was very fresh. I will definitely be back to buy more seafood when my seafood crave returns! read more

I was very disappointed with the quality it was overpriced and the shrimp were not fresh.

Been trading with PS for years. Always clean as a whistle... Staff is friendly and knowledgable on local catches. When Stone Crabs are in season they always have fresh claws... This is not a Seafood store to start looking for bargains in... their Grouper as an example is supplied by local divers diving off Ft Pierce diving up to 100 ft in some cases to bring back beautiful slabs of one of our favorites. If you value freshness, variety, and great service... clearly Pelican Seafood is hands down winner on the central coast of Florida. read more

I try to support small local businesses but sometimes the small business owners are not trustable and this is a perfect example. I went in 4 years ago and came out feeling I had been robbed after paying $27 a pound for smoke salmon, over all I was overcharged 50-100% for everything I bought that day. The third party smoked salmon was delicious which made the experience easier to "swallow". That said, on this Small Business Saturday I decided to give Pelican Seafood my business but it didn't take long for me to remember why I started buying my seafood elsewhere. The moment I walked in my sense of smell told me to walk out but all I wanted was a couple pounds of cooked shrimp so I figured the stench of bad fish shouldn't affect my shrimp. I asked how much for a pound and was told $28.99/lbs so based on the extra $10/lbs over other places I only bought 1 pound and left as quickly as I could. To make a long story short I am happy to support honest hardworking small business owners but I draw the line at greed and price gouging. Shameful. read more

This fish market is a local treasure. I've been visiting Ft. Pierce on and off for years, and I always go to Pelican for the best seafood. Yes, the prices are higher, but the quality is so worth it. In fact, I'm saving money because I am eating better than at any restaurant in Ft. Pierce or Vero Beach. I have never tasted mahi mahi, squid. snapper, flounder and pompano as good as what Pelican carries. I just drove 11 miles S of Vero Beach on the advice of a local I stopped on the street. Publix only had previously frozen shrimp and I wanted FRESH. This small seafood mkt had beautiful fish filets, whole fish, scallops and Key West shrimp, homemade crab cakes, Bahamian conch chowder and New England clam chowder plus an assortment of smoked fish dips. On my visit they had 4 varieties of fish, none of which I wanted to purchase. They were all priced at or above 25 dollars per pound. I thought the selection was poor and the prices were extremely high. Staff was friendly but the prices are exorbitant for mediocre fish. Purchased Scottish salmon at $20/lb - I live in New England and have never paid that amount for fresh salmon. Also bought 1lb of cooked shrimp which was also overpriced. The salmon was just OK for that price I expected it to be rather tasty we would have been better off buying the $10/lb salmon probably would have tasted the same. The shrimp were a $23/lb and had a bleach taste to them and the cocktail sauce was so hot it was inedible. We won't be returning to this place. read more

Most of the seafood they provide is extremely fresh but remember you will be paying a premium for the items that they have. An example being that "fresh" salmon was in the mid to high teens per pound while going up the road to publix it was 8.99. Pretty much looked, smelled, and to the touch appeared to be the same salmon. So in the end that's where the loss of stars comes from. Yes their shrimp are fresh, wow look at the red snapper until you notice they left too much of the blood line in there until after you get it home, and ehhh I can find the same salmon, mussels, lobsters, and clams up the street for much less. There is a reason to come just make sure you are getting what you are paying for instead of just paying more. read more

Went in for salmon today (first time ever) and the price per pound was $14.95. I was aware that Publix had fresh salmon on sale for $10.99. Sales associate (owner?) Claimed they were the best but I can't afford a $4 difference when I need to buy 2lbs (totaling $8 in savings).
