We were driving home after an afternoon of running around at a local park and saw Pelicans Snoballs so of course I had to hit that U-turn and have me and the kiddos try it out. After Hawaii we miss and often crave shave ice on hot days. There was a ton of seating outside as well as umbrellas for shade. When we went up to get in line the menu had so many different flavors to pick from. The man who took our order was kind, fast and efficient and had the shaved ice ready quickly. My daughter went with a kid flavor that also came with some butterfly gummies, my son and I opted to pick out our own flavors and added so condensed milk. I went with a passion and pina colada. It was good and the perfect ending to a hot day outside. My kiddos loved their shaved ice as well and are constantly asking to go back. read more

We've visited a few nice Pelican locations in NC. As we were traveling back to the mountains we googled Pelican's in the Colombia SC area and picked the one closest to our route. What a great find! This location has a convenient parking area, very clean and well kept grounds and friendly staff to compliment the flavorful and refreshing shaved ice Snoballs. It was a stifling 102° when we parked. We got our Snoballs and sat under the shade of the umbrellas at their picnic tables. read more

Fun, tasty, and cheap. You really can't beat it! They have so many flavors here including a few that are unique to Columbia. I tried the pimp juice flavor and it was fruity and refreshing. The snoballs are made quickly so you don't have to wait too much even when there's a long line. I also like that their syrups don't contain high fructose corn syrup. Only downside is parking. Their dedicated lot is tiny, but you can also park across the street of you're willing to dodge the Rosewood traffic. read more

So Snoballs ain't fancy. It's shaved iced with deliciously flavored sugar poured over it, but the way Pelicans does it is top notch. I think you'd be hard pressed to find another Snoball biz that has more flavor choices. The first time I stopped by I got a regular sized snoball with tamarind and tiger's blood with a butterfly gummy. Both flavors were tasty but the tamarind will definitely remain a favorite. (My butterfly gummy ended up being orange so eh. I don't think it's worth the 50 cents extra... it was pretty cute though.) The second time I went I downsized to the kiddie cup and got the mojito. It was the perfect size and the mojito was refreshing and not over powering. They have 2 larger sizes above the regular. The largest is "avalanche". I can't even imagine how big that is. The prices range from $2 - $5 (I think 5) and each comes with up to two flavors. There is an additional charge for more flavors, cute gummies, toppings etc. My new favorite game is thinking up wackadoo combos and daring companions to eat them. Pickle juice and pink lady creme, anyone? Hahahaha! These are the first of many fun trips this summer. read more

So so good!! I got a large and it was so big I could only finish half! The ice is so fine and they put a ton of flavor on them, not a single spot on my snow cone lacked flavor!! Tons of flavor choices, we got blueberry, butterscotch and cream. I was hoping this would bring me back to my childhood of eating those flavored snow cones in blowing Rock and it did not disappoint one bit!!! Came here on a 100 degree day and was so happy to have something to cool me down. There are so many choices and I had difficulty narrowing it down so I asked the server what his favorite flavor was. He recommended the Grim Reaper which was a grenade mixed with sour apple (I think). He said it was sour and since I like tart flavors, I decided to go with that. I was glad I did because it was so yummy! These snowballs are really well priced. $2 for kid's size, $3 for a small, $4 for a medium and $5 for large. What a pleasant surprise this place was! I'm not much of a snow cone person, but pelicans sure changed that. It's the perfect place to go to after sweating your butt off on the river walk about 0.2 miles down the road. My boyfriend and I were dying to try anything that was cold. Anything. We were totally blown away by all of the flavors pelicans has to offer. There were at LEAST a hundred. After five minutes of bantering back and forth, we decided on a large snow cone with blue raspberry flavoring on one side, and Apple on the other. You get to watch them make the whole thing. And let me tell you, these people are NOT stingy. First, they take your cup and they pack it full of ice. Once it's practically overflowing, they take a little bowl, turn it into a mountain of shaved ice, then pack it on top of your already super full cup of shaved ice. Then, they take your flavors and they get every single nook and cranny with the delicious sugary goodness. Oh. My. Goodness. It's out of this world delicious. Trust me. A small is more than enough for one- possibly two people. read more

Yes this is totally legit super fine shaved snow in the style of the traditional south Louisiana snowball (or Hawaiian "shave ice"). They use the vertical Japanese type block shaver, not the the horizontal New Orleans style, but the ice is PERFECTION. IT DOES NOT GET BETTER THAN THIS. If you are unfortunate enough to have been given that ground up crunchy ice with all the syrup in the bottom of the cup, I pity you. THIS IS NOT THAT. Was surprised to a) learn about a snowball place in town, b) taste a true snowball (vs that chunky ice bit at other venues), c) see that they correctly call them snowball (instead of snowcone), and d) pay a reasonable amount (vs an increased amount found at some tourist locations). We not only loved it but also give our LA-style stamp of approval.
