It's not your typical ice cream shop, as there's not really a physical space that you go inside of, but rather a window where you place your order and then pick it up. I've been there a handful of times, and every single time, my ice cream tasted perfect, came out quickly, and the employees were very friendly! We tried it because we had a coupon. The ice cream was very good and the price was better than some other places. We got two containers of 4 scoops each. Way too much so we had to hurry home to freeze our leftovers. There is a bench or two you can use but no place to sit inside of the restaurant. Servers were friendly and helped. It didn't take long to get our GREAT ice cream!!! We have gone back a couple of times. Service was still great and so was the ice cream. read more

Strangely enough, I can always find parking here. The lines on the other hand....You have to time them. When it's super hot outside (hello SC) the lines CAN be massive. However, the workers keep them moving pretty smoothly. Now the flavors...Awesome. Just awesome. Anytime I go, I always pause to take a look at what they have. What I will say is that certain flavors are rotated out (I.e. the pineapple upside down cake). So if you like something, I'd get a pint. The birthday cake is always a solid one. read more

Ice cream is so good the hubby and I came back just a few days after our first visit. Once again, ordering ahead online is the way to go! They did manage to add a designated line to help people navigate the window. A bit understaffed for the amount of people ordering and maybe its just my generation but the kiddos working there are sloth like slow but maybe I just need to learn that the newer generation takes things a little slower than we did back in the 80's/90's. Still deserves five stars based on their flavorful ice-cream. My order and experience was great at first. I had a teen boy take my order. I ordered a large pistachio sugar cone for my husband, a small sugar cone with birthday cake, ice cream, and sprinkles for my four year-old and a cup for it to go into, and pistachio and coconut Caramel delight, ice cream for myself in a waffle bowl. We waited for our orders they came up and this teenage girl handed over the small sugar cone with birthday cake and sprinkles but no cup. I asked for a cup and she told me it would be $.40. I thought I had already asked for and paid for the cup, but I gave her the dollar and paid for the cup. Put my kids ice cream upside down in the cup and waited for my order. Once we sat down in the back, I remembered I asked for a receipt. I rarely ask for a receipt. I opened the receipt and found that I had already paid for the cup so I was annoyed and decided that I would go back and ask for my $.40 back. I went up there and waited to be waited on again, when I went back up, I advised her that I had already paid for my cup and I'd like my $.40 back. She then yelled at the manager to come because the lady wants her $.40 back and that's the way she said it. The older gentleman came up and I showed my receipt where I paid for it. He then starts to refund me for it, and I wanted to make it clear that I did not pay for the cup on the current receipt but a different receipt which she did not offer me. So he had to find my receipt and then he refunded me my $.40. He was very nice and apologetic and I was like yeah well you know I would've liked if she had paid attention to the order that I'm sure she saw it on her screen that there was a cup already ordered and not assume that I was asking for something additional not having paid for it. When I got back to the table, my ice cream was half melted and that's because this place is in high demand on Sunday evenings. The ice cream still tasted great, I drank down the melted ice cream and tried to enjoy time with my family. Second time coming to Handels and I brought friends ! I got the 4 scoop sampler this time and it was only $6 and some change so why not!? I believe I got chocolate pecan, coconut caramel delight, pistachio and fudge ripple brownie. Those flavors did not disappoint! I love anything nutty, chocolate, and coconut so all those flavors paired so well. I got pistachio because I've never actually tried it and this was the perfect opportunity and it was so good! All the ice cream is creamy and flavorful. Whatever the flavor is, you can taste it. The coconut caramel delight gives you samosa Girl Scout cookie vibes. It was definitely worth ending my night well (after a horrible dinner experience) so I appreciated the ice cream a lot. They are a go to favorite for me now. read more

This being said , we got caught in a torrential downpour AND i would do it ALL OVER AGAIN because it's just THAT GOOD! the team working that afternoon was super kind and patient as we were exploring all of the flavor options available on their menu. there's some outdoor patio seating behind the location which, when the weather is nice, provides a great atmosphere to enjoy your ice cream treats. now, to the main reason for this five star review. the ice cream is literally top tier! you can tell that they actually make their ice cream fresh and use quality ingredients. we had the banana cream pie, buckeye and the strawberry ice cream and they were all flavorful! the banana cream pie tasted like banana pudding with chucks of fresh bananas and sugar cookie crust. the strawberry ice cream tasted like fresh strawberries with a hint of cream. the buckeye was the perfect balance of chocolate and peanut butter with actual peanuts in the mix. all in all, we've found our go to ice cream shop! as long as they're open, they'll take all of our coin lol! read more

The perfect treat for a hot Summer day. So many options to choose from. Everything we tried today was amazing. The grape ice cream and banana cream pie was surprisingly tasty! My husband got the pineapple upside down ice cream and I got the Tin Lizzy and Oreo Cheesecake. Both were so creamy and delicious! The Tin Lizzy had crunchy toffee bits with this salty butterscotch swirl that I may dream about. The Oreo Cheesecake had bits of Oreo and cheesecake throughout. This has to be the best ice cream in columbia!! It's in a shopping plaza off Forest drive. There is parking in the front of the building and also the rear in the Lowe's parking lot. The staff were very friendly and quick. The young man took my order right away and it didn't take long for my ice cream cone to come. This is a family or couple friendly place. You can also bring your pet because all sitting is outdoors. There are multiple places to sit and enjoy your ice cream. First bite, I was in heaven floating on the clouds. I ordered the small Chocolate chip cookie dough on a sugar cone. The small cone gives just enough satisfaction. Make sure you grab plenty of napkins, SC heat will make the ice cream melt fast (trust it's just as good). The ice cream is full of flavor and has the right mixture of chips and dough... Want to order different ice creams in the same cone/bowl- no issue. Just ask. - lots of parking available as long as you don't want to be in front of the building. I've parked in the garage or at Lowe's and walked over dozens of times---how else are we going to burn off ice cream calories- am I right?! - small? - they do not do small here! The small is three giant scoops of ice cream- just a heads up. -now that being said...I have watched a lot of people get ice cream here since they opened, my only true critic is that depending on who scoops your ice cream...your experience will change. My person gave me heaps of huge circles of ice cream, guy next to me---got 3 of the smaller scoops I've ever seen. And we both paid the same bill. So that's something to be aware of. He was so upset and I was totally overwhelmed so just different problems to have. I would say I recommend the sampler. I saw lots of people ordering it and it looked great.
