It seemed relatively simple, as our existing sweep wasn't tailored for a shower door. After watching numerous YouTube tutorials, we decided to replace the entire rail. However, our subsequent visits to Home Depot and Lowe's revealed that the rail was typically sold with the custom shower door, not separately. Turning to YouTube once more, we discovered that an online glass company could provide a replacement rail. Yelp led us to the many positive reviews for Country Glass who has a showroom in Hudson. I called and spoke with Becky who listened our issue and invited me meet with one of her technicians. While at the showroom waiting to meet the technician, I noticed a display showcasing replacing glass with broken seals vs. the entire windows, prompting me to inquire about obtaining a quote. The showroom also displayed doors, glass, screen and storm doors. I left my contact information to schedule a day for a quote for new front door and replacement glass. I was introduced to Sean, who listened to the issue with our rail, viewing my photos and discussing how we should install this new rail. Sean cut the new rail slightly larger than necessary, given our lack of precise measurements. Additionally, he suggested using silicone for the end cap, a practical solution. Meanwhile, my husband's attempt to reattach the rail using some sort of waterproof glue proved futile. I unexpectedly ran into Sean at our local grocery store where he generously offered his assistance. Despite the mishap with saving his number, my husband managed to secure the rail using waterproof silicone. Although the shower no longer leaked, the vinyl sweep remained a persistent issue, shifting with each door movement. This required me to adjust the vinyl sweep every few days. On March 26, Tim arrived to provide the quote. Tim shared he was the previous owner who sold the business and is now an employee. He spoke so highly of the employees and how much he enjoyed working with customers. Tim was very personable. I shared my assumption of needing a new front door due to the cold air that could be felt in entry way. Tim explained this was attributed to the architecture of our entryway where the heat rises rather than any fault with the door itself. His honesty was commendable as he could have sold us a door that was not needed. Upon examining the windows with failed seals, Tim showed me where each warranty sticker was located. He explained the warranty claim process and offered to come back to install once we received the replacement windows. I appreciated his genuineness. I did ask him to take a peek at our shower door. He said he would happily look at it. He said he knew was was needed and went to his car to get some tools. He trimmed the excess vinyl, securing it with screws on both ends, and fitted a new end cap. WOW!!! What amazing customer service and I only purchased a rail from them :). I want to thank Becky, Sean and Tim for being amazing and going above and beyond when we didn't make a major purchase. When I got in front of the windows he talked me through how to take the windows out of the track, identified that the "shoe" wasn't attached and that's why they won't stay open. After I got off the phone with him, I followed his instructions to get the shoe unstuck from the bottom of the track and managed to get them reattached to the windows, and now they both stay open! So incredibly helpful! If we needed to replace those windows we would definitely have gone back to Berge for it.

The last time I had glass shatter spontaneously was back in '24 when our winter storm door screen was completely pulverized by the summer heat, it seems (Pro-life tip: swap out your storm door screens in the summer with mesh ones). On the back of that unforeseen devastation, out went my mass inquiries to all the local shops servicing the Nashua area. Out of maybe 5 (?), 3 responded almost instantly. One sent a quote so high, I was half tempted to reply and ask if I could have some of whatever they were smoking. Another replied with what seemed to be a promising rate, but there was one problem. Their communication was severely intermittent to the point where they inexplicably ghosted me faster than a recruiter responding to a job applicant. Ultimately, I settled on Good Window Works. They offered a fair quote, were easy to get ahold of, and even provided a COI statement as per the request of our housing board. For those unaware, a COI is a Certificate of Insurance. Basically, it's assurance to the board that the contractor in question is insured to complete the job without creating a liability if they, say....jam their thumb beneath a tack hammer or something. With those formalities out of the way, the job was simple enough: Replace the half of the basement window that abruptly disintegrated. All in all, the job took roughly 2 hours. In the end, the window he installed was so transparent, it looked like there was no pane at all in the frame. But no--the glass was just THAT pristine! I don't say this often, but....experiences like these are what I love most about being a Yelp writer. So rarely do I get to be in the position to not only promote another hard working local business, but also pose as the microcosmic advertising vehicle that just might serve as the prompt some very fortunate individual needs to go, "Yeah, I'm hiring this place to work on my house". The door jamb was not flush with the drywall by 3/4". According to the manufacturer of the door, Thermatru, this was an incorrect installation. Paul Nutile, the owner of the company, was very unprofessional in all of his communication and refused to fix the poor install. When I took him to small claims court, he cursed at me in the courtroom like a child.
