So we did some research. Somewhere along the line we found Meraz written up as one of the 12 best Indian restaurants in England. Okay, so we trek over to the East End (pretty wild neighborhood that we enjoyed) for dinner at Meraz. My husband was disappointed not to find a particular dish on the menu, but the waiter didn't hesitate to offer to have the kitchen whip it up special for him. My husband also went a little wild ordering all sorts of appetizers and side dishes. Now I don't like to deal in hyperbole. A five star rating should be sufficient praise. But I'm going to go overboard just this once: BEST INDIAN FOOD I'VE EVER EATEN IN A RESTAURANT. EVER. I've eaten in Indian restaurants at home in Chicago, in L.A., New York, St.Louis, Atlanta, San Francisco, etc., etc. etc. Many have been good, but none approached this. We ate every scrap of all the food we ordered, and only because we had a tight timeline and a busy itinerary for our brief visit to London did we not go back for at least a second meal.

With new dishes regularly being introduced, you will definitely want to keep your sundays free for that yummy buffet! Two dishes I recently tried where the 'Chicken or Lamb Naga', which is a chicken or lamb marinated in a delicious homemade rich chilli sauce similar to the traditional jalfrezi, the other dish was the Murgh Shatkora, which is chicken cooked in a mouthwatering chilli lime sauce (AMAZING)! I can honestly say, I am looking forward to more wonderful new dishes from this eatery. The management and staff are their usual friendly warming helpful selves and as always a great place to come with friends and family. Book in advance as they do get rather busy!

Well this was an experience I can tell you! A friend of ours…read moresuggested Jaflong for a gathering as it was one of his regular curry places. It's a little out the way for us in Dulwich but I'm so glad we made the effort. 11 of us descended on Jaflong last night and we couldn't have been happier. The staff were incredibly friendly. After we were seated the offered us poppadoms with all the trimmings; I particularly liked the spicy line pickle which even the Auntie-in-law who "really likes spicy food" (ha!) thought was too hot. We had starters, of course. I had the Prawn Puree which is a personal favourite. It was a little doughy but the flavour was great. The wife had onion bharjis which she said were dry but would've been great if she'd liked any of the sauces available (she's a bit of a selective eater). Around the table various other starters were tried and no complaints were heard. By the time my main arrived I discovered that I may have overindulgence on the poppadoms and starters. The main I had was something I'd never seen before. It was called Pudina Gosht and it was amazing. Minted lamb cooked with honey, lemon and spices. It was a dark minty green and smelled fantastically fresh. As I was a bit full I just used my keema naan to mop up some sauce and took the rest home so I can relive it for lunch today. Others around the table tried the mixed grill which came to the table sizzling, chicken madras, chicken korai, saag bharji, various rices and breads. Everyone was really happy with. When the bill came I was shocked. £180 for 11 people!! I was expecting it to be well over £200. We'll definitely be going back to Jaflong again. It may not be soon but the wait will definitely be worth it. If you can get to Dulwich, go to Jaflong and indulge in some spectacular Indo-Bangladeshi cuisine.
