I decided to take my pup here after a horrible experience with another vet practice, and I'm so happy that I did! I was referred to Peninsula Ave Vet by a coworker of mine who has taken all her dogs to Dr. Kelley. For starters, the male tech (I didnt catch his name) working at the front desk was so kind and personable. He made me and my pup feel comfortable and addressed all of my concerns. Before going through any procedures, he ran them/ the cost by me and did not make me feel pressured to do everything. Dr. Kelley is so kind and personable, her presence is so calming! My scared pup went into hiding under one of the chairs, and she patiently/ calmly called for him until he wiggled his little self out. I really felt safe with her taking care of my dog. Payment; they accept card! At the end, they give a detail "after visit summary" for your records. They also gave me toothbrush/ toothpaste and a dental chew sample :). Parking; street parking, definitely allot some time for looking for a spot. Though there are ample spots in front, they're usually taken. But the street is quite long, so as long as you don't mind a short walk- you'll be fine!

    CB's subQ iv treatment
    Charlie B.

It's really hard to write this as our relationship started off on a good foot...only to progressively deteriorate, unfortunately. Originally, my contact with Dr Linda Hall on 23April 2021, was to inquire about subQ IV fluids for my beagle in remission. Dr Hall was incredibly responsive and provided me with a new client registration link and hours of operation to call to make an appointment. We have a longtime family vet, however, located in San Lorenzo, and needed a convenient and competent vet clinic to administer fluids twice a week. On the 27th of April, we received a welcome letter filled with more useful information. I followed up and started scheduling beagleboy's Vet Tech appointments twice a week and would receive email confirmations. The vet tech we mostly worked with was Jacquelyn. She was nice enough to warm his saline bag and payed extra attention to him. We assumed the rest of the staff would do the same. However, found out rather abruptly, after Jacquelyn left in August, that this was NOT the case. The first time, after Jacquelyn left, that beagleboy had his treatment, Brian, asked me leash him up. I asked why, as he's 12 years old and rather slow, not aggressive at all. Brian responded that my dog "lunged" at another dog. After texting Jacquelyn, she stated that Brian was not present during this altercation, and the fact was another dog lunged at my dog - the other way around. And at that conversation with Jacquelyn, she shared the reasons why she left...that the leadership at the vet clinic wanted all dogs/cats muzzled and restrained, and that she was reprimanded to warm the IV fluids, plus some unprofessional behavior from the vet doctors. That being said, I can overlook the lack of seating/waiting area outside, and the poor phone reception to call in, the long wait times after getting in the queue waiting to check in, more long wait times for a vet tech to come out and get beagleboy, and even the trash and recycle cans sharing the same walkway, with gnats and the smell of garbage in the air. And after letting the clinic know that I was going to be out of town the last part of Sept and the first week in October 2021, as my request was to cancel specific dates, the tech accidentally deleted ALL of them, which she admitted to me. What I can't overlook is the lack of professionalism that I have personally experienced on my last visit on Tuesday the 12th of October, to have waited more than 30 minutes outside, and seeing one of the vet techs outside who asked me if I had checked in, still waiting outside, attempting 10 calls to inquire on what the status of our appointment is, finally the kicker of getting an invoice with a higher amount on it. Of course, I'm going to question it! Granted with ZERO notice from the Vet Clinic, to be told in a condescending tone from the person who came out to collect payment (this process never lags!) that the cost of goods all over California has increased. WTF? I want to thank Loreto for his kindness and compassion for taking great care of my beagleboy, during the very few times we have had a chance to engage. The time has come for us to move on...as I choose to seek the care and professionalism elsewhere. And please, do not provide a snarky response, as it only serves to make this already struggling vet clinic look MORE unfriendly and unprofessional.

Gus and I got to go into the vet exam room together! A first since covid, thanks to the kinder policies of Peninsula Avenue Veterinary!

What a joy to find truly a truly caring, kind, excellent veterinary staff you can actually see in person during Covid! Dr. Michelle Kelley used to be our vet in San Francisco many years ago, and we LOVED her. She is the real deal -- knowledgable, calm, caring, kind, smart, and nice to humans as well as our doggos. We were really sad when she left, and I thought she left the Bay Area. But when my dog got an injury a couple of weeks ago, and nothing other vets were doing was helping with the pain, I learned she's actually in San Mateo these days. And by a minor miracle, and a staffer who could hear how badly we needed to see a vet in person, we got in the day I called. After two years of handing my dog off at the door of our vet and getting him handed back later after a call from the vet or assistant, it was so wonderful to be able to go inside (masked) and be with Gus during the exam, and talk with Dr. Kelley and staff in person. Although dealing with my dog's intractable pain wasn't good, it felt like the good old days of vet care were back. Dr. Kelley and everyone we dealt with was fantastic. She could see that Gus needed more than he was getting, and developed a protocol to deal w his pain. I've been in touch w the office for a couple of questions, and Ariana, who I think is a manager there, was so great about getting us the answers that would help Gus. The front desk people, the vet tech, Ariana, and Dr. Kelley have all been top notch. And best of all, Gus is feeling much, much better. So much better that I have to prevent him from overdoing it. It's an injury that will take time to heal, but thanks to the people here, he's well on the way to recovery. I realize covid might change the in-person policy at some point but even if that happens, I feel like my dog would be in excellent hands here. In the meantime, we'll be making the trek to San Mateo for his other veterinary needs! I'm deeply grateful they took Gus from screaming in pain to chilling in the backyard in the sunshine. Can't recommend them highly enough.

Dr. Bolich is our vet and I texted her immediately after the injury... she was on vacation out of state and gave me a great referral to an emergency vet. At the time, Dr Bolich was at the other site before moving to this location. The emergency vet she referred me to recommended amputation due to the injury and age of my cat (9 years old). Dr. Bolich had also said it was likely we would need to amputate due to the infection my cat got from the injury. He's an outdoor kitty and I knew if we had to amputate him he wouldn't want to live any longer. I begged Dr. Bolich to not remove his leg. She gave us a wild option: we could treat his wound with honey. It was expensive and the wound had to be re-wrapped every 3 days for a few months- but she gave us the options. We chose to take a risk and try therapy suggested knowing it might be in vain. Well, it worked. My cat isn't a nice guy to most humans - he's an ex-feral we adopted as a kitten and he can be a bit spicy, but the team Dr. Bolich has worked wonders. As you can see in his photos attached the honey treatment worked! His ligaments, muscle, skin and fat grew back in a couple months time. It's been eight months since his injury and he now has a full coat of fur covering his old wound! Dr. Jen even made friends with Jax and had him so relaxed in an uncomfortable environment. Thank you, Dr. Bolich, for your excellent and quick thinking and being open to an out-the-box treatment that saved our kitty and his leg. We meow you VCA!

I've taken her too many places to get her anal glands, excreted,, and this was the first place that they told me that I should sedate her with trazodone and gabapentin before I brought her in. To be honest with you, the Vet tech was quite rude. I was pretty taken a back, considering I've taken her to many other places, and they just put a small muzzle on her and extract her with no problem. Their rebuttal, was that they had a different philosophy and that if I didn't sedate her that doing the extraction could injure her. I laughed because I had a Chihuahua and they muzzled my Chihuahua six months ago. So they are being pretty hypocritical. Basically I'm upset because I had been a loyal client for over 15 years with multiple pets, and since I disagreed with their tactics of sedating my dog before an anal gland excretion... They thought it would be best if I'd go somewhere else. They also said that sofie had deep anxiety and was in a state of fear. Sofie was uncomfortable, but so are most dogs going to the vet. I've never had this problem with this vet team. But, the dynamics have changed and Dr.G would rather drug my dog than put a muzzle on her. Yet.. they felt good putting a muzzle on my 17 year old Chihuahua 6 months ago. Definitely going somewhere else where the veterinarian team are more confident in their skills, professional and know how to communicate. They definitely have a lack of loyalty.

She was so friendly, nurturing, and gentle with Bentley, and immediately helped put us at ease. Bentley is usually very nervous at the vet, but he did great with Michaela right away, which says a lot. Dr. Kuang was thorough, kind, and welcoming. Thank you for caring for my baby during her last hours, and for the extraordinary amount of empathy you have shown me during one of the hardest moments of my life. My rating is solely reflective of the other staff members I interacted with at Lenity. Unfortunately, my experience has been nothing short of a nightmare. I have raised all of these concerns with management, and I'm confident they will (or may have already) taken the appropriate steps to address these issues, including providing additional training on professionalism, effective communication, and appropriately navigating difficult situations. I rushed my cat Honey to Lenity as soon as I saw she wasn't being herself. I filled out paperwork and was greeted by Dr. Carlson after a somewhat reasonable wait time. After assessing Honey's current state, it was determined she had to be hospitalized overnight, and her health declined rapidly. Dr. Carlson and Dr. Hart were incredibly kind and guided me through one of the most painful decisions I will ever have to make. The rest of my review is for several staff members I interacted with at Lenity. Throughout multiple touchpoints, I felt a concerning lack of empathy, and felt as though the clinic only cared about being paid. My multi-thousand dollar bill was being broadcasted to the entire staff and waiting room as I went to visit my cat after being hospitalized overnight. The woman with glasses at the front desk spoke loudly and announced to everyone, including staff and folks in the waiting room, something along the lines of "Honey's owner is here to visit and paid her invoice- we can let her in now," and also announced that I paid through CareCredit. The way this was handled was incredibly inappropriate and humiliating- no worried pet owner should ever feel as though they are only permitted to visit their baby after handing over thousands of dollars. I also want to mention this was my 3rd invoice, totaling over $12,000 within a matter of 24 hours, so I naturally had questions regarding what exactly I was being charged for and if there was any wiggle room with all of the charges. The same woman repeated "wiggle room" in the most condescending tone when I asked- further demonstrating the blatant lack of empathy and basic customer service I'd expect to receive anywhere, especially in healthcare. Please stop reading this if euthanasia is a sensitive topic. I ultimately made the decision to put my cat down, due to her rapidly declining physical state, and out of immense love. She was not herself in her final moments since she was in a lot of pain, and inadvertently bit me as I held her. We let Dr. Carlson and staff know about the bite, and Dr. Carlson gave me instructions on how to clean the wound. Before I left the clinic, one of the front desk members talked to us about the bite. They then proceeded to share graphic, inhumane, and traumatic details regarding what would happen to my cat's body if I showed any symptoms of rabies. I later found out this was incorrect information, and they would still have to proceed with this process, regardless of whether I showed symptoms of rabies or not. While I understand the county's mandatory testing protocol, these graphic details should have NEVER been shared with me as I am deeply mourning the sudden loss of my world, and I am appalled by the insensitivity of how this was handled. The details that were shared with me will continue to haunt me, and countless hours of emotional distress could have been prevented. As mentioned above, each of the incidents outlined in this review has been brought to the attention of the office manager, Kara, who has handled every concern with professionalism, compassion, and grace. That said, I believe it would be a disservice to both current and future patients not to share my experience. My hope is that Lenity takes this feedback as an opportunity for reflection, improvement, and adequate staff training.
