After spending some time at some other camps this summer, I am now realizing how unusual it is for this camp to have consistent staff for the entire summer duration, if not for many years sequentially. This explains the highly experienced counselors, undoubtedly trained by Heather and Adam the owners. Some of the other camps in the area seem to have "on call" staff depending on the volume of drop in kids, which I found problematic because my kids could not identify regular staff to approach with questions and found themselves disoriented initially. This is what happens when companies exploit workers instead of seeing them as crucial childcare providers. The price difference at these other camps is not worth the inconsistent staffing or burnout amongst the employees about having unreliable work hours. read more

One of the greatest outcomes of Covid - PBC Camp! We really needed to put K in something since having her home for a year. This camp came up in my "South Bay Summer Camps" Google Search, and I did not look back. I happened to book PBC on their last day of early enrollment. The staff was accommodating towards my hesitation towards booking my 4 yo. They answered every email promptly, and were extremely helpful with their information before camp started. Here are my takeaways from our first year of PBC Summer Camp: You book everything through their online portal. The portal is set-up so that you can enroll your child(ren) all in one shot. You pick the weeks that you want to attend, and they have an option to add or remove weeks. (You cannot remove a week once you've paid for it. I assume.) There is an optional lunch program that you can get as well. The food is delivered by Kelly's Corner, and the menu is provided a few weeks before camp starts. There is a Summer Camp handbook that spells out everything for you. It is emailed a few weeks before camp starts. The information is neither overwhelming, nor leaves you with additional questions. I actually appreciated the simple wording, and straight-forward handbook. Before each week, PBC sends a simple 2 page email with drop-off and pick-up reminders and any updates that are warranted. Sometimes there is a piece of paper that they give you at carpool that reminds you of the spirit weeks, but other than that, there is very minimal email correspondence that you need to keep up with - which I greatly appreciate. The themed weeks are awesome! Last week, was pirate week. They had a huge pirate ship bounce house for the kids, and the costumes were fabulous. There are dress-up days every Wednesday and Friday, and the campers and counselors get into character. Each week is truly memorable for the campers. My child gets in the car every single day at pick-up and talks about a game that she learned, a new song, or a friend that she played with. I am pretty sure that my shy quarantine child still has not said a word to anybody, but I do believe that she is starting to come out of her shell. Regardless, she is really having the best time ever! K plays so hard that she tries to keep the fun going at home. We have learned the rules of "What time is it Mr. Fox?" and apparently there is a blue monster in "Red Light, Green Light." K asks every single morning how much longer until we leave for camp. She truly loves to attend, and wants to go every day. This 4 yo is easy-going and chill. Drop-off and pick-up was simple and seamless since Day 1. The greatest part for me, is the extended alone time, since K comes home and walks herself into her room for a nap. One of the directors, Heather, greets every single car at pick-up and drop-off, and you can tell that she truly cares about the campers. Based on my conversation with her, this is their first time at RHP. If they happen to go back to their old location, we may be devastated by the 'longer' commute. (VERY short commute right now. Hah!) Our hope is that RHP has a pool, and they continue to let PBC use their campus for years to come. It is a great set-up, and the carpool line is always a joy. We look forward to spending the rest of the Summer with PBC, and it has been such a great stepping stone in our goal to reacclimate K to a structured school setting other than Mama School. I can't sing this camp enough praises. This is the second summer my son has attended and he looks forward to going every day. He is a spirited and rambunctious kid and this camp really seems to embrace that. His younger sister will be old enough to join him next year and is already looking forward to it based on how much her brother talks it up. My girls have been coming to the PBC day camp for the last 3 years. They also love doing the Bass Lake sleep away camp which is affiliated, and occurs mid August, it's the coupe de grace to the summer. I have nothing but positive feedback. They staff is all very friendly, the folks that head this operation are Adam & Heather, a husband/wife tandem who are in the right business, they do a great job of relating to the kids on putting together fun activities. Each week has a theme, as does each day, so it really makes it fun for the kids. If your children go for a prolonged period, they will definitely bond with the staff. There are different activities aligned with what aspect of camp you choose to enroll you child in, so you can tailor their experience. read more

Pros- We love PBC! My four year old is excited to go to swim class everyday and while she's there she's having fun, anxious for her turn and while waiting a minute for her turn, is practicing going under water on her own. There's plenty of sun or shade where parents can view as there's no one allowed past a certain point which is nice and not disruptive. From my first inquiry phone call to seeing and dealing with the staff it has been a very pleasant experience. The atmosphere is very laid back and fun. Her first instructor Mary has been great and encouraging. My daughter is easily distracted and chatty and Mary was able to play along but also keep the class moving. Sessions are two weeks M-F for 30 min. Their method is fun and effective and we couldn't be happier. At the end of the session they give you a progress report with a checklist of the things your child is able / not able to do and whether or not they are ready for the next level. It's so helpful to know these things even though we are watching. We spent two years worth of 15 minute private lessons at South bay Aquatics and got no where and the staff was unaccommodating and sometimes unpleasant. She didn't learn a thing...what was their incentive? We've spent two weeks at PBC so far and I can see a world of difference in her skill level and confidence as well as her friend's. Our friend wanted to sign up for the next session and we were flexible to change our time so the kids could be together, but they were booked up at the time. They added a new class just for the two of them! I obviously can't say enough good things about this program and will definitely be signing the kids up every summer. Cons - not year round! read more

My son has attended the PBC Day Camp for the last 3 years and my daughter for the last 2. Before she was old enough to attend camp, she attended the Swim School. I've always appreciated and liked the camp, and appreciate it even more this year because I had to find another summer camp program after PBC ended earlier this season (due to shifting school calendars) to fill the remaining time in my kids' summer break. The difference in professionalism and organization between PBC and the other camp I enrolled them in is night and day. First, the big, friendly greetings by Heather and Brent each day during morning drop off sets a positive, welcoming atmosphere. My kids adore their counselors (Danielle, Kera), and the counselors are actively engaged with not just their assigned campers, but all campers, ALL the time. Although my kids were not in Brody's (mentioned in another review) group, I would find him playing tag with my son at pick up (after a full day's worth of activities outdoors), and this year my kids both fell in love with Paris, who also was not one of their assigned counselors. At the camp my kids are currently attending, I arrive at pick-up to find the counselors clustered together, engaging with just a few kids, leaving the other kids on their own to play. After a day at PBC, my kids would come home excitedly practicing the camp chants and songs they had learned that day. They've made friends at camp that they've asked to arrange play dates outside of camp. Also, the improvement they've made in their swimming skills has been tremendous. Last year, after just two weeks of camp, my daughter went from needing me in the water to "catch" her to becoming an independent swimmer: able to take a breath and continue swimming. The camp also does "Caught-Ya!" - written shout-outs when campers have been caught doing something positive, as well as, for the little campers, name tag labels printed with with "I had a great day! Ask me about..." and the camper's favorite activities for the day written down. This has been helpful conversation starter for young children who might otherwise be overwhelmed when asked to recount their day. Any time there have been issues, the camp directors were very proactive and sensitive about dealing with them to minimize their effect on other campers while also keeping a positive environment. This is a great program and I hope to be able to send my kids to PBC for many more years. read more

If I could give this summer camp 10 stars, I would!! They are amazing! My three youngest went for two weeks this summer and just asked me to sign them up for another week. They LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! The counselors are awesome (kudos to Brody- the cool counselor that they can't stop talking about), and the activities are so much fun. I love the fact that they are spending their summer busy, having a blast, socializing, and in the good ole outdoors... as they should! Great, wholesome, old fashioned FUN! The fact that Kelly's Korner does the lunch service is such a great bonus. We are doing this every summer from now on! read more

My son had swim lessons through PBC swim school at Miraleste Intermediate School. He had a great time. The instructors were fantastic. My son was scared to get his face wet before he started the classes. Now he loves getting in the water. We will definitely be back next year for more lessons. read more

My son attended PBC Day Camp and it was a very positive experience. The counselors seemed to take a sincere interest in the happiness and well being of my child, while simultaneously teaching him not only swimming and sporting skills, but even more importantly, social and life skills. He looked forward to attending camp every single day, and was fortunate enough to make friends that he has remained close with to this day. My grandson started with PBC as a swim student when he was 4. He started attending camp when he was 7. Every year around February he would make sure to remind me to sign him up for camp, checking in with me until I assured him it was a done deal. Most years he has attended no fewer than 5 sessions and is an avid fan of the Adventure Trek option. It is a bittersweet summer for him as PBC is probably his most favorite event of the entire year. This year, he'll be 14 in September, is his last eligible year as a PBC camper. He is so sad to be leaving an environment that has been so emotionally, physically, and psychically supportive of him. I am sad, as well, as it is always a pleasure to work with the staff of PBC, to drop him off in the mornings to happy, enthusiastic people, and pick him up in the afternoons, tired and all smiles after a wonderful day of fun and friends. I cannot recommend PBC enough if there were a 10-star option, I would gladly award it. Worth every penny and then some. read more

My son is 3 1/2 and has attended this swim school for 3 sessions (6 weeks) and it has been the best experience/ environment. The instructors are so patient and kind. I love the one on one attention to each child and that the classes are daily so your child gets in a routine. The only negative would be that I wish they had this year around! Our children have been attending PBC since 2007. Our family loves PBC, every summer we look forward to seeing our friends and staff. The Camp and Swim school are excellent and the staff and location are exceptional! My husband and I feel very comfortable adn secure with the counselors and swim staff. For swim, you see a difference in just 1 week of swim. Currently my 5 year old, can dive into the water and swim 10 yards and also perform a backstroke! My 9 year old can do the backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and butterfly for 15-25 yards! My son attended Camp at PBC and says he loves it! He loves all the sports and activities the camp has to offer, especailly the songs and games! The staff, swim instructors and counselors go above and beyond all my expectations (year after year). PBC is a must for our family and they have become part of our "must do" for the summer. My rating a 5+ stars! One other thing that makes me come back is the feel of comfort and ease for my children and for myself. PBC Rocks! So sign up your kids for next summer! Woohoo! read more

I'd give PBC more than five stars. The program is well planned and the counselors are outstanding. We've tried some other local camps that have been OK but nothing like this one. My daughter did the horse camp and learned to swim here. Now she wants to be a camp counselor when she grows up! read more

I have been really impressed with this camp. My husband and I are both working parents with erratic schedules, so organization and communication is really important to us. We absolutely love PBC! My daughter started with their swim school 10 years ago when she was three. At 6 she started moved up to the day camp and even stayed for the extended day. There wasn't one time she asked to stay home for the 4 years she was there. The directors and counselors are incredible with the kids! When it was time for my son to start swimming we knew exactly where we were going. He started in the pool with them in the baby and me class. What a blast we both had. He is in his second year at day camp and has had a fantastic summer again. The directors and counselors embrace their inner kids during the summer offering the fun every kid deserves. It's a fun and safe environment where your kids are asked to have a good time while being nice to other campers. I would encourage anyone thinking about sending their kids to a summer day camp to try PBC. I'm grateful to have been introduced to them 10 years ago. read more
