Wally's are the kindest people on the Peninsula here at the Lake. We have been going to them for many years for great deli sandwiches, salads and numerous other fresh made food to take out on the boat, or back home. Their market has everything that you may need, almost every grocery item you might need at the last minute.. plenty of drinks, cheese, snacks ect. They are just very nice people. Make sure to tip the nice girls at the deli, they are all always so kind even when there is a huge line out the door. read more

Needed crush ice, they charged me $30.00 for three bags. I guess the new owners feel they can rip you off. The average cost of a 10 pound bag across the state is under five dollar,never again. The old owners were very honest. These guys are a bunch of crooks. read more

I love this place! Yes, it can be a little pricey, but you're always greeted with a friendly face. We miss Wally, but the new owners are doing a great job keeping that small-town market feel alive. Very good with their service the food is always good. I've seen them bring wonderful food products out of Sonoma County Where I lived for 20 years and I have been up here 50 years in my entire life back-and-forth always shopped in Peninsula Market what a great place beautiful view of the lake as you shop groceries are always quality to say the least replaced by owners a few times.. great sauces, quality meats, variety of liquor and good quality groceries. some of the best cheesecake you'll ever have in your entire life is from Petaluma and I think they bring it there. It happened to be blue eyes's favorite, which I understand now because I love myself.... as you enjoy Lake Almanor enjoy this wonderful peninsula Market. It is a great little spot. This little market is a hidden treasure. I come to Almanor once a year and most of my life on the West shore. It wasn't till we rented a cabin in the peninsula that we stumbled across this market. EVERYTHING I've had from the deli is beyond delicious. The workers are all so helpful and nice. I know some people gripe about the prices, but in my mind you can't put a price on high quality food and over and above service. Love, love, love this market. read more

This is infuriating! Online it says they close at 8pm today, but I got here 25 minutes before 8pm and they are closed! Fix your hours on Google! I just called and it went to a nondescript voicemail that didn't even say the market's name. You can't run a store and post hours and then just close whenever the hell you want to. The prices are a rip off too. Just keep adding reasons I will avoid shopping here whenever possible!!! read more

The new owner's are price gauging everything in the store and they don't care about customer service. Rude and they think everyone is super rich so they want their hands in your pocket...after so many years of shopping here, never again and that's how many of the friends and family in the area feel. What a great little market packed with so many things! From groceries to a deli, to a wine room, this market seems to have it all! We were looking for a place to grab lunch with a 3 month old in the car and stumbled upon Wally's. They made me a delicious sandwich, a burger for my husband (he devoured it), and we got drinks and a massive and delicious brownie. They had such a big selection for a little market. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and kind. Their pre-made breakfast items looked yummy as well and was nice to know there was a small grocery store if we needed anything to cook. read more

My last trip to this market was my last. Went in for 2 sandwiches and a macaroni salad and it was $36. For lunch. Nope. The sandwich I ordered was terrible. The sourdough roll was hard, dry and flavorless. So dry that I couldn't even taste the contents of the sandwich. It literally crumbled. No meat, just cheese and veggies. $13. The other sandwich was just as bad. The macaroni salad was totally flavorless. Never again. Wish Wally would buy it back because these people have ruined a great little spot. Cute little market just outside the gates of the Lake Almanor Country Club. This market was more than I expected on many levels. They've got refrigerated and frozen food, all the staples, sundries, and snacks as well as beer, booze and wine too! What really impressed me was the butcher case and deli counter. I did not expect to find that at a grocery as small as this one, but low and behold, nicely presented and cut meats, a whole sandwich and burger board, prepared salads and more all ready to go! The whiskey selection wasn't half bad either. From what's on the shelf they don't move through it that fast, but that means if you look close enough you might find a gem. Four stars because I didn't get that warm and friendly local vibe. I also didn't love the Covid complacency. They were doing mostly everything, but I had to overhear a conversation amongst the staff behind the deli counter preparing food about not wearing masks and there was a sign on the door alerting patrons to the fact that some staff can't wear them. It just made it a little uncomfortable for me, as someone who is being overly Covid cautious. A great place to shop and eat! read more

Peninsula Market makes Holiday Market look like a discount store. I live very close to Peninsula market, but it's cheaper to drive to Chester than 1 mile to PM. The new owners have absolutly no idea what they are doing. Honestly, they should close the place down for the winter. Only the out of town crowd will be willing to overpay. I and many others on the peninsula agree, we will never shop at Pin Mkt ever again. read more

FYI- They are not enforcing masks or social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic and claim employees are exempt from masks for health reasons. The owner frequently removes mask while preparing your food. $9 for tuna salad on dry wheat bread was very disappointing. Potato salad is good but we are happy to never return. read more

Great little market. Friendly, helpful staff. They sell some unexpected stuff, like coconut dream ice cream and the coffee shop next door offers smoothies with non-dairy milk. I wanted a deli sandwich to bring on my Devil's Kitchen hike so I stopped in and got the custom sandwich + chips combo. It was quite fairly priced at around $8, and it did not disappoint. I got assorted veggies on lightly toasted dutch crunch. Fresh cucumbers were not on the list but they very kindly added some anyway. I didn't order meat or cheese but they offer a respectable selection of both. I was starving by the time I actually ate and it really hit the spot. Veggies were fresh and they didn't skimp on the amount. It was pretty salt-free but luckily they provide salt and pepper packets as well as mustard and mayo for those who like extra. The roll was a lot smaller than I'm used to, so I was glad to have the BBQ lays as an appetizer. read more

Terrible, it's not Wally's peninsula market anymore because he sold out. The new owners are rude and greedy. We bought 2 cups of black coffee that cost us $16 and ended up tasting like dirty water. We gave the place a second chance and tried the breakfast burritos, that we have been eating for years, which also are terrible now that the new owners have taken over. On top of the bad service and products the new owners are rude to the employees who have been there for years. We are locals in this area and have spent our last dollar at the peninsula market. If you've been here in the past and enjoyed it, it's a different company now. read more

I visit the Westwood area a couple times a year to enjoy Lake Almanor and the great golf. If you're not familiar with the town, it's quite small - you won't find a large grocery store, Starbucks, or much else that you're familiar with. And that's one of the things we love about it! Lucky for us, we have Peninsula Market. It's a great little grocery store, where you'll find pretty much anything you need. You have your nonperishables - canned and boxed goods (including organic and all natural options), cleaning supplies and paper goods, frozen, a small dairy/deli section, and a larger produce section. In the back of the store is the meat counter with a decent selection, and a deli counter with sliced meats and cheeses, a few bulk options like macaroni, potato, and pasta salads, as well as a made-to-order sandwich bar. Finally, they have a stellar wine and liquor section with tons of great options for very reasonable prices - not the small market markup I expected. The employees are friendly and helpful, and the deli staff and liquor manager specifically were very proud of what they stock at the store. The drive to Westwood is a couple hours from my house, so I certainly could pack a cooler to bring food with me, but I'd rather make a trip to this market and support the local business. read more

Got a call in the afternoon to confirm my order. I called back to confirm and they super rudely told me they didn't have time for my order. This market is super well stocked for its size. Prices are reasonable, especially in their meet section. The pork sausage is awesome. We just got a take and bake pizza and were very impressed. Sooo delicious. Besides the great selection you get to interact with super kind and friendly staff. It was snowing outside and the checker helped carry our bags to the car. Impressed with the COVID precautions that the store has put in place. Masks were worn and physical distance observed in the waiting line. The were very friendly, when I mentioned we wanted a malt at Paul Bunyan's they said their coffee shop outside had amazing malts - and they did!! After reading the reviews of this market, I was excited to shop here while vacationing at the lake. Yelpers!!!!! You have let me down. The fruit and vegetable selection was nothing exciting. We went to the "award winning" deli and sampled their award winning potato salad. I'm sorry, but no one in our family liked it. It was heavy and tasted more like a cold stuffed potato. We didn't see anything special about their meats or their sandwiches. The selection of grocery items would probably be okay if there weren't another grocery store in the area, but it took us only 12 minutes to drive into Chester to the Holiday Market where we found everything we needed and more, including friendly service. Disappointed and nothing in hand, we decided to go next door to grab a coffee drink. When we walked in, there were a bunch of people there. There was a lady waiting at the counter to be served. We were looking at the menu and not feeling overly impressed, when, after a fairly long wait, the worker finally turned around to acknowledge the woman patron. With an incredibly rude and snippy voice, the worker asked the woman, "So, what is it you want?" Who needs service like that? We left without ordering a thing. read more

I was really impressed by this place. We stopped in yesterday for sandwiches at the deli counter since it was Monday and not much in town was open. Not you run of the mill deli sandwiches. A good selection with some unique combinations and the potato salad we ordered to go along with it was fantastic. I have driven by this place several time in trips up to the lake and not given it much thought. The outside of the building belies the great selection of fresh meat and produce and an extremely impressive selection of wines and spirits which rivals some of the better wine shops in Reno. read more
