OVERPRICED & NEGLIGENT After giving them business for many years in two business locations plus our residence, we switched to Baker Propane... Poor customer service- they rarely answer your call and never return or acknowledge messages you leave on recording. They don't care about working with established small local businesses and don't provide service requests in a reasonable timely manner. Sloppy accounting systems- your propane and trash service scattered together in a confusing manner- their "budget plan" entraps you at the end of the 11 month cycle when they hit you with an exorbitant bill followed by threats of "your service is On Hold" until you pay up- the Head Accountant has an arrogant and could care less customer service approach despite being what one would perceive as been a good long standing commercial and residential customer with good payment history. OVERPRICED PROPANE .70 cents per gal higher than competition to date. Trash service randomly throws your can onto its side in your yard- many times they miss or delay pick up -neglected over two weeks 4th of July 2017- our trash was overflowing- Finally after notifying Peninsula to stop propane service and remove their tanks in all locations, they delivered propane in two locations including a disconnected tank and charged us the bill. It has been over 2 month and they still have not picked up the disconnected tanks in all three locations. They keep saying" we have a work order on it...should be taken care of in 2 weeks" meanwhile hundreds of dollars of over priced propane that should be refunded is sitting on my front yard and two other commercial locations...smh read more

If I could give this a negative 5 star rating I absolutely would. Aside from putting faulty parts in your system and not giving a damn, their oil is overpriced, their customer service falls on deaf ears and their service men know about as much as a dead clam. It is the equivalent of calling a jiffy lube oil changer a certified mechanic.( nothing against jiffy lube technicians.. they don't lie about what they are trained for) if you don't mind getting ripped off and wanting to rip your head off after they leave because things seem worse after they are supposed to get fixed...then this company is for you, for those who understand what honest work for honest pay means, don't even bother with this company. You will unforgettably REGRET that decision!! There is a reason why people have taken the time to give this awful company a 1 star rating.. they are 100% deserving of the worst oil/propane, and service company in Sussex county. DO NOT allow them to work on your HVAC system. We have been having them service ours since we bought our house in 2016. This is the 3rd summer where we have had them come out and our freon is empty. We wanted them to find the leak and fix the issue. The service tech was very rude and talked down to a friend that I had at the house to allow him access. He then called my husband with prices. I proceeded to make a few phone calls as i wasnt trusting what we were being told AGAIN. At that time, my dad located a tech for me that could be to our house by Saturday if i wasnt happy with what the tech was going to tell me. When he arrived, he quoted me different prices and when i proceeded to explain what i knew and how i expected him to address the issues, he began stuttering. I told him I had another tech I could call and I didnt need his services any longer. So our new company came out today. He located a leak that he was able to visibly see simply by entering our house and looking at the unit. What has cost us almost $3000 in just 2 summers(not including what they would have charged us this year) turns out to be a $25 faulty part. read more

I just bought a new house in Easton, MD which has an old oil furnace and needed oil for the beginning of the winter season. I called around to get pricing for oil and chose Peninsula because their pricing per gallon was competitive and they allowed me to call to get deliveries as needed without any contract. After the oil was delivered on the day they said it would be... I decided to schedule a service to clean and tune-up the furnace. The service tech came and said he cleaned and changed the oil filter and left after not more than 20 minutes of work? Later that evening I started to smell a strong odor of oil and upon further inspection found that the service tech had damaged the copper pipe while changing the oil filter and oil was leaking all over the floor as well as under and around the furnace. I called Debbie at the office at 8am the next day and told her oil was leaking pretty steadily and was told that someone would come out and take care of it right away. Long story short and multiple calls later... Debbie told me that not 1 but 2 service techs were going to come out and take care of the leak and cleanup the oil mess that now was leaking out the door and down the stairs of the furnace room. Not only didn't anyone show to repair what they had damaged and created but no one even called!!! I had to call and hire another company at overtime rates to repair the leak and I ended up having to do the cleanup! If you can believe it, Peninsula took the credit card I used to purchase the Oil and without my permission used it to charge me the $149.00 service charge! I should send them the $225.00 repair bill I had to pay another company to fix the damage they created but I know that lies and terrible customer service is how they do business and they obviously don't care about anything but making a buck! Quite possibly the worst customer service I have ever had the displeasure of dealing of. How do I give a zero? THEIR company came out and pumped 100 more gallons of oil into our tank than they were supposed to. Then THEIR company schedules THREE appointments to come remove aforementioned extra oil, all three of which they no show for. Nevermind the fact I called off work all three of those days. Then THEIR company promises to have someone call us back 5 times...no one ever does. Then THEIR company sends our "unpaid" bill to collections. We were offered a mere $50 in compensation. Seriously Peninsula; you have some work to do Everyone else, save your time, money, and frustrations. Choose ANY other company. Or even go without heat if you have to. read more

I called Peninsula Oil & Propane for information about getting gas installed in my new house, since I've heard how efficient it is. I spoke to Bernie. He acted like I was a complete moron because I didn't know much about how the procedure works (what size tank I would need/whether I had an option to get natural gas instead of propane/delivery options, etc). He answered my questions as if he was speaking to a 2 year old. He acted like a complete pompous horse's read end. I've had a couple minor problems with Peninsula Trash pick up (not coming to deliver the original trash receptacles when promised, not delivering extra recycle receptacles when they promised, giving me the wrong day of the week for pick up, leaving the trash cans in the road after they empty them, leaving trash on the side of the road etc) but I decided to give them a call anyway. What I was thinking I DO NOT KNOW!! Now that I've seen other people's experiences are identical to what I've experienced I'll be steering clear of Bernie and this company. Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired, to say the least. read more

Probably the worse service I could imagine. Too bad I had to offer any star! Made an appointment a week ago and scheduled an A/C tune up on Friday, June 9. Received a call early Friday, cancelling appointment due to a technician's injury. Changed my schedule for the day but S_ _ _ happens, no problem. Rescheduled for the following Monday, June 12, 2017. At 4:45 pm, no technician and no call from Peninsula. Called them and was immediately transferred to a manager. I was told that they had to tend to other people who had their A/C units go down. Apparently it didn't matter that I rescheduled two days of work appointments for A/C maintenance. I guess the high dollar emergency rip-offs supersede routine maintenance and my schedule!!! I became the "bad guy" because of my insensitively to customers that were down, without A/C. So Peninsula's short staff now became my problem. Been a customer for four years but will find another company more sensitive to their commitments and my needs. Awful, awful service! After weeks of trash not being picked up this joke of a company cancels my service and tells me they will refund the last quarter of terrible service, because they made a mistake and I am actually less than 1 tenth of a mile outside of their service area (their trucks turn at the road that boarders the side of my property). They promptly picked up my cans the next day. Now, not only have I not received the promised refund but I just received a bill for the next quarter!!! read more

They have never showed up during their scheduled times. Each person that I speak to there is as incompetent as the previous one. Have been with Peninsula off and on for many years now. Now they have "changed", to Superior... sigh... So here I sit with both my tanks empty. Only to be told its MY FAULT because I did not check my tanks, my driveway was not empty. I am on automatic fill by the way. I have been called from time to time by the drive asking me to move my car from the driveway because as the driver stated did not want to leave ruts in my yard. NEVER was I called by the driver to tell me they were on their way or to please move my cars. I started calling them at 5 AM ( the answering service in located in CANADA folks) the service tech NEVER answered the call by the way. So I tried all day to get the company to come and fill me, guess was NO!!! I am sure now I will be forced to pay a HUGH bill also the cost of electric heater I am using. What a shame this company does not care about their customers. Trust me if I had the money I would change companies in a flash!! read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS*** Customer service sucks. Rate hikes when it's convenient for them. Bait and switch tactics. They decided to split the bill into 2 separate bills without warning, opening a separate account for the 17$ a month fee they charge you for the privilege to be their customer. So now even when they have hundreds of dollars of your money in an account on credit, they send you a bill for 17$ on a new account they opened without your permission. They WILL let you run out of gas when it's 15 degrees outside. They WILL NOT answer the phone when you call for a VERY long time. Plan on spending your entire 1 hour lunch break, plus some. When you do get ahold of them, they will not fix their error. They will assure you it's fixed the 1st 2nd and 3rd time you call but if you're lucky they'll fix it on the 4th call. Here is my experience with this company...We are on the monthly prepay plan and have been getting regular deliveries from their Propane group. Last night my heat system alarm went off and I discovered the 500 Gal tank was empty. After 6 calls to the "reliable and dependable" (see web ad page) Peninsula Oil and Propane, I still do not have a time or commitment that they will be here to refill today. Its been 14 hours and house is cold and pipes will soon be freezing, however no solution has been submitted yet, even when it was made clear that they let the tank go empty (it was a warmer season until the past two weeks so I don't see that as a factor. I have been told they have a lot of people out and the driver gets off about 6-7pm.....I guess there really is no 24/7 service here because my first 3 calls were with a live message service. I do not believe they are equipped or prepared to service like they promise so Don't be fooled into believing this will be stress free. My wife and I both had to take off work to WAIT for the call they were coming while putting space heaters in strategic positions to avert pipes bursting. If you are looking for reliable, honest stress free service DON"T GO HERE....I plan to be moving on as well..... Peninsula Propane is not equipped nor do they exhibit any desire to give you reliable 24/7 service! We were left in cold with NO HEAT, NO Hot Water and... NO call backs to our 13 calls. for about 40 hours. They left the tank go EMPTY with their DEPENDABLE auto service and outside temps were 8-9deg. Inside was a cool 45-52Deg. with electric heaters, electric blankets and Kerosene heaters. We are on the monthly plan and are ahead about $1500 so money was not an issue, weather was bad, but I see plenty of SHARP, Suburban and other Gas trucks in the neighborhood and roads. They were made aware from the first call we have no Heat or hot water, but their (dependable 24/7 Service is closed )a pleasant Message service and a rude office staff were unable to get us a delivery time or a call back. On one call I was able to speak with staff and the service manager (Steve Palmer) and he said the trucks were busy but a service truck with a temp tank would arrive TODAY..it never arrived on Friday....so we went out to buy electric heaters (no answer at his #) to make it thru another night We have been on-time, long-term, loyal customers and this is how we are treated? The driver (real nice guy, Rick ) arrived with a refill to our 500Gal. tank and we are getting warmer and showered after both missing 1 day of work, purchasing electric heaters, and near freezing for nearly 40 hours. Fortunately I had plenty of time to call around other Propane providers on the weekend and out of 4 others, I was able to speak with a live, very helpful employee of the company (Suburban) and not a message service). If you really want to know if you have 24/7 reliable service call on a weekend try calling their 24 service line. I'm still waiting for an apology from Peninsula management but am not holding my breath...but I can see it.... read more

New system installed in September and it has not worked since day one. The install that was supposed to take three days took six. On the first day above 90 outside the A/C ran for eighteen hours with out stopping and couldn't cool the house to under 75. Now it's cold outside and the heat pump will not work. I've gotten one excuse after another and that's when I get told anything at all. Most of the time appointments are made and not kept and I don't even get a phone call to tell me they are not coming and why. I called yesterday for an update since nobody would call me and was transferred to the service manager's voice mail and still have not gotten a call back. read more

WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY!!! If you like lip service and empty promises, Peninsula is for you! I currently have Peninsula and they have been a joke since the beginning! Their service is HORRIBLE! They always promise to come and then never show up. This is the third time I've experienced this and I am DONE. First time was the installation, second time for a service call that took them 4 different people to figure out (ended up being a simple power issue!), and now this. I called on Monday morning for propane and paid it in full, they said I'd get a delivery by Tuesday or Wednesday, (72 hours or less is their mantra - yeah right!) since they didn't show up as of yesterday, I called again to confirm they were definitely coming and was assured the driver would be there (yesterday). At 4:30pm, I hadn't seen anyone, got nervous and called back, only to be informed that they weren't coming until Thursday. UGGHHH!!! Sooooo I called today at 11:30 again to confirm (why do I really even bother at this point?!?), and now the girl tells me that "because they are so inundated right now", it may not be until tomorrow!?! Ok, yeah, like I REALLY believe that!!! My gauge has been on zero for 3 days now, while I sit in a freezing cold house waiting for them!!!!! They could care less! WARNING!!!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!! I ordered a fill pf propane on a Thursday and was told that they would deliver by the following Thursday "at the latest." At 430 pm Thursday I called wondering where my propane was because I am at 2%. I was informed that I was still on the schedule and they were going to message dispatch and inform them that I am still in need of propane. 7pm comes around and I call back and get the answering service who informed me that an emergency fill is $110. I informed her that I'm not paying that and I would like to talk to the tech that is on call. Five minutes later I receive a phone call from the tech. I Explained to him that I have 2% propane left and I have a child and animals in my home. He begins to tell me that he "understands" and that the only thing he could do for me is bring me a temporary tank for $300. I begin to tell him that I am NOT paying $300 for a temporary tank and he tells me the only thing that I can do is turn my thermostat down to 50 degrees. I told him 50 degrees is not acceptable with an 11 year old child in the home. He continues to tell me that he "understands" and that there is nothing he can do for me and he hopes that I have a nice night. Then I had to go out and spend over $100 on space heaters. I get in contact with the manager the next day and he offers me a $25 credit and tells me that my delivery should be here sometime today. Neither the manager nor the customer service people could explain to me why I never received my delivery. The manager told me that the tech has to tell everyone that the temp tank is $300 because customers lie all the time. He told me that I need to get another tank so I won't have to worry about running out again since I'm a "will call customer." I have been using one tank for 4 years and have never had an issue. I also informed him that 3 months ago one of the drivers had lost my delivery ticket and I had to wait until the following week, 5 days later, to get a fill and he said 'I apologize." I told the manager that I will be switching to a new company and his response was "okay." I have never had customer service like this before. This is absolutely unacceptable. read more

This company will cheat you every chance they get. They don't take responsibility for their actions EVER. They filled my 2 large tanks on December 21 and by February 7, both tanks were empty. It turns out there was a leak in one of the tanks, but Peninsula refused to admit it and insisted that I pay to replenish both tanks. I had to threaten to contact the Attorney General's Office before they caved. The owner (John Willey) is apathetic to any customer problems. You have to be vigilant with their actions to avoid being cheated. read more

This message has to do with waste and recycling pickup, or should I write MISSED pickup AGAIN! I contracted with Peninsula in mid-June. My containers have been out at street side since before sunset last night. By 11 today I noticed that neighbors in my community of Lochwood appeared to have their recycling picked up. I called at 11 and then again after noon and spoke to Merish and clearly explained that I expect my recycling to be picked up TODAY. What a disappointment to arrive home at 4:55 to see that it was NOT picked up. I immediately called but went to VM where I left a message. And not even a courtesy call from Peninsula explaining why. Bad, bad. bad service and customer service! Now I wait for my call back by 9 a.m. tomorrow. Can't even put my disappointment in to words. read more

Horrible! Don't answer the phone! Don't return calls! Takes over a week for delivery! Shabby work! Rude employees! Then list goes on and none of it good! They installed a brand new air conditioning unit and a new furnace that was over $6000. We are in a 960 sq ft mobile home. These units were to be so much more efficient?!? Well the first summer we used the unit w3 called them a couple of times as it didn't feel like it was as cool as it should be, we were told it was because it was so hot and the air condition can only do so much! Then we had propane delivered and we were going through over $1500 a winter for heat and still not staying warm. Unit is louder then our 30 year old unit they replaced. The following summer we called another company and they came out and said that when a new unit is shipped it isn't full of Freon and the techs should finish filling it after installation. They apparently had not done that, then this year (mind you our unit was installed in 2014) we go under our home for a plumbing problem and I could smell propane. We had 30% left at the end of the year and when I went and looked we were completely empty. They never replaced any of the lines to the unit under the house yet spent several hours under there to do so. Then the one spot they did the connection we were told they used the wrong kind of pipe sealants they used plumbers pipe glue not for propane. Complete idiots. I am looking for another company now and currently using an electric fireplace to heat my home! Any recommendations are welcome. Will never recommend them for air, heat or trash! read more

I had an appointment time to have my heater serviced from 8 -12. There service department overbooked for the day and cancelled my appointment with out notification. I had to call in to discover the cancellation. When I did the customer service representative was very un-professional and told me there was nothing she could do for me. I was then transferred to a voice mail of a manager of the service department. Terrible experience! read more

They completely avoided the pick-up service and lied about it every time I called. Never received a return call and we canceled the service. Possibly one of the worst companies on Delmarva for a variety of reasons the least of which is in an industry where lives and families are at stake if you don't fulfill your promise of servicing Propane in a timely manner could have catastrophic results in sub zero weather conditions. They need to stop gouging, maintain a reliable automated system, stop hiring morons and unqualified people and do your dam job. Never a returned call. Months without checking meter, no bills then late notices. When they do answer nothing but excuses. Their cost for propane, already an expensive source for fuel , is 35 to 59 percent more than the average. Can be more depending on your consumption. For those communities with Developer contracts they are worse. Natural Gas companies agreed to come in with a cleaner more economical source of fuel but Peninsula refused to allow them without litigation. They are the crooks of Delmarva and if given a choice stay the F away!!!! read more

I am about to run out of propane as my tank says 0% and I am supposed to be on automatic delivery. I didn't notice this until after 4:00pm to, but when I called the company I was told there was nothing they could do and they would not delivery until tomorrow. I am on the payment plan and currently have $1800 advance payment on the budget plan, and they still told me they couldn't come out until tomorrow. The supposed delivery manager was no help and just kept saying we have many people in the same position. Why are so many people out if they are supposed to go by a system of days of temperature above or below which I was told that is how they compute when to delivery. It has been cold now for over a week and they should have realized that I would need propane sooner than normal. I depended on them and they have let me down. I have been a customer for many years and now am thinking of finding someone new. They also messed up my account on my payments too and said I didn't pay for one month and I had as I verified it with my bank, as I pay online not thru a check. The accounting department really is inept at this and I had to come up with something from my bank showing I did in fact make this payment before it was resolved. I am not a new customer and it seems they don't care how long you have been with them you are at their mercy for everything. I am just hoping my pipes don't freeze tonite as there will be hell to pay for their mistake. I will be looking for a new propane company soon if they don't deliver tomorrow, as the supposed manager hung up on my husband. My rant is over this company is not what they claim to be. read more

Horrible trash pickup. Trash often blown over the place and cans dropped to the ground while the truck is already moving down the road. Missed trash pick up multiple times in less than 1yr of service. I was also blamed, over the phone, for improperly packing my recycling bin even though nothing was wrong. I was never refunded money for the month of service I cancelled and I am still receiving bills for a cancelled service. Do yourself a favor and pay a couple extra $$ with waste management. read more

I am finally DONE with Peninsula!! I have had problems with them for 3 years now. I had a service contract with them but their service technicians have no idea what they're doing. Two years ago, my heater wouldn't start so I called a tech to come out and fix it. Three techs later, they told me that my chimney needed to be cleaned out and that's why the heater wouldn't work. I said " bullshit" and called a friend of mine that worked for McFoys heating and air. I told him what the heater was doing and OVER THE PHONE, he said "oh, your relay is bad"!!! He came over and replaced the relay and miraculously we had heat. I then went to cancel my service contract and was told that I had to cancel 30 days prior to my renewal, so they got me for another year of having to have techs that didn't know what they were doing. So this year, they let me run out of oil. I am on auto-delivery, budget billing and had a credit with them for over $1000. So Monday of last week when we ran out of oil, I called Tri Gas and Oil and they are now my new oil company. Oh and by the way, my husband tried to call them when we ran out of oil and was on hold for 20 minutes!!! read more
