Simply, if you're looking piece of mind when leaving a loved one and searching for caring nurses, ease of admission and a clean facility, PPA should be your first choice. Admission: Highly recommend to look for Beth. Her entire admission team are extremely friendly and knowledge of insurance coverage. I toured PPA on a Saturday and the entire team showed around, explained what insurance will cover and also outlined their Physical Therapy Plan. As Beth mentioned, "Your goal is their goal". Nursing: What made me felt comfort at first site is right when I walked in, every nurse I passed greeted us with a smile and offered to help. During the patient stay, all nurses (and all staff) were constantly checking on the patient to ensure the best level of comfort and service. Everyone was always friendly and made sure my mom felt right at home. I especially want to recognize Nurse Snow. She regular offered body wash for my mom as she had difficulties after discharging from hospital. Therapy: The PT and OT were great. Definitely recommend Marian and Rekka. Extremely kind and can really help you within 2 weeks. Very detailed as well. Misc. The staff is very helpful. Raey coordinated transport for my mom's doctors visits and even reminded us of appointments. Overall: It isn't easy leaving a loved one to a facility and you hear horror stories from reviews or friends. But definitely give PPA a try or go for a tour. I am confident you will experience everything I mentioned above first hand. Again, PPA is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. read more

This facility is so severely understaffed--1 nurse to 20 patients. Response is super slow when you press the call button. If you're watching over a fall risk patient, you have to leave the patient to walk over to the nurses station to try to get attention. And at times, you have to do this more than once. The nurses are nice, but they are just spread too thin. Very disappointing! read more

I was sent to PPA after being in Peninsula Hospital for many days on antibiotics for an Osteomyelitis. This was so I could continue the IV for the following 8 days. Immediately I was to be in a room with an unmasked guy who, I found out later had been at another care facility with COVID, and a respiratory infection. Within two days I developed a sore throat and within 5 days COVID ! I brought the sore throat fears to the nurses' (Julies') attention. The ONE nurse I thought handeled nursing protocol well. Dr. Aditi Patel saw me once for less than a minute. After me telling her my paraplegic level and sensory limits such as "I feel everything", she kept poking my toe with her pen. I just glared at her. Due to the lack of all the railings on the bed, and ALL beds I fell out of bed one afternoon while shifting my weight. Hitting my head on the plastic trash can and bleeding. In summary, I exited the facility "Against Medical Advice" went home continued my AB's in pill form and am doing fine. I exited because of their decision to transport me to their OTHER facility where I would've been put in a semi-private room with another COVID + patient. NO WAY ! I wouldn't send my dog to this place, while there are some good people working there, most nurses, are rushed and do NOT practice nursing protocol well at all. The food is repulsive, and the Admistrator Shane (joke), stated ..."the county has strict regulations on us to what we can serve. " To that I said, "The county doesn't require you to serve white slices of pineapple with the so called breakfast." I immediately voiced my opinion of the food to both Dr. Aditi Patel AND the Administrator, Shane first time I spoke to them. Your choice, your relatives. Good luck. read more

I would not recommend this rehab place to anyone. And if I could have given at zero stars I would have the people are pleasant who work there but the way the facility is run is dreadful the food is unbearable they even served raw bread though one night. They forgot to cook it. How can somebody put that on a plate and not notice it. If I wasn't there heaven only knows how many people would've eaten it and possibly become ill. The people who are in there are elderly and they are our family they deserve the best the day that my mother arrived I went there an hour and a half after she was admitted and her oxygen machine wasn't working it was beeping nobody walking in and out of the room paid any attention to it and when I mentionIt took a while to realize what it was. I have no idea how long she was without oxygen. The next day arrive she had a different oxygen machine because the first one had broken down. It has been problem after problem every single day. I sincerely think the health department and the rating committee need to come back and take a second look at this place. Do not send your love ones here. read more

How this facility handled Covid-19 has been what is most impressive to me. Although with visitor restrictions it was difficult not to see my loved one face to face, I appreciated that they were taking the pandemic seriously and putting patients health and safety first. The staff were very accommodating and made every effort to place my loved one in a room with a window where we could visit outside and even receive updates from nursing/therapy. I believe this was crucial to recovery, and shows that PPA cares as much about the emotional/psychological aspect of health as the physical. My loved one reported that everyone was friendly and always had a smile for her! Also the rehab staff is amazing! It can sometimes be difficult to feel like you are a part of your loved one's recovery when you are not physically there, but the rehab staff was constantly in communication with us and we never felt "out of the loop". They gave plenty of recommendations prior to discharge and let us know what to expect when transitioning to home health so we would not feel overwhelmed. The discharge planning went very smoothly and was very collaborative. We are happy to have our loved one home and in good spirits!! We appreciate PPA greatly and would not hesitate to return if ever needed in the future! Thank you PPA! read more

This whole process has been totally overwhelming, finding a place for my aunt who recently broke her hip. I was referred to Peninsula Post Acute by the hospital and I knew it was where she needed to be after spending minutes there. During my father's 6 week stay at Peninsula Post Acute, the staff has been most helpful. Special "shout-out" to Social Services Director, Charissa--a consummate professional, kind, caring and responsive. She has provided me with much needed information regarding matters big and small. When my Dad's cell phone appeared to be dead, she checked and told be he just needed a new charger and texted me the link so I could order immediately. Her communication has been "spot-on." The Social Services Department at PPA has arranged phone call meetings with me and my Dad, physical therapy, nurses and social services to give me progress reports. Samantha and Raesy (sp?) in Peninsula Post Acute Social Services have also been outstanding in their communication with me. Where to begin. When my aunt was first admitted to Mills Hospital, I went to go visit all the rehab facilities in the Burlingame, Millbrae, San Bruno/Pacifica area. My first impression of Peninsula Post-Acute. It's noisy, lots of busy bodies in the hallway, a lot of action and hustle. I inevitably decided on Post-Acute after the vascular doctor and nurse told me they would be able to visit my aunt at this facility and would have more eyes on her. Wasn't that the truth. The staff here went far and beyond the call of duty of any health care professional to ensure my aunt was given the attention and health needs she needed. To top it off, the staff were warm and friendly and really went out of their way to develop personal relationships with my family to understand the full scope of the situation. They gave us guidance, tips, a listening ear and moral support through it all. The wound care at Peninsula Post-Acute is top notch. The nurses know what they are doing and really take the time to make sure it's done right. You could have told me that Peninsula Post-Acute is where patience from Mills Peninsula go for rehab and I would believe you. The caliber of professionalism and care is very well represented. The intake and discharge of my aunt was so thorough. The social worker made sure I was always in the loop and cared about the holistic needs of my aunt as well. The staff here maintains a high level of professionalism while giving a lot of heart into what they do. My family and I cannot express into words the gratitude that we have for all the staff who made my aunt's several month stay a comfortable one. UPDATE - 01/2017: I am increasing my rating by 2-stars for the care shown to my mom by the other nurses. Her original nurse was banned from assisting her, and the replacements were much better. Jojo was one of her favorite nurse's assitants. The woman in charge of activities was also very kind. ORIGINAL REVIEW - 12/2016: I find it odd that there are two listings for this facility--one with ONE star and one with FIVE stars. The review with ONE star is now "closed". Only this listing with five stars remains. Sorry, but this place is definitely a ONE STAR FACILITY...closer to NEGATIVE FIVE STARS, but unfortunately, there are no negative rankings to choose from. First of all, good luck trying to locate a nurse in the evening...and it gets worse as the night continues. I feel sorry for all of the elderly people there and those with medical ailments who cannot get out of the bed. Who knows when help will arrive? Minutes? Hours? None at all? My mother had the misfortune to have Julie (CNA) assigned to her. I paid a visit to my mom, arriving at 6:30 PM, and her robe was covered in vomit. Dried vomit. I asked my mom why she had not been changed, and she said she told her CNA, Julie, earlier that afternoon to change her "later". My mom's thinking process is not clear due to a stroke earlier in the year, so I don't know why they would even listen to her?! Anyway, I had to roam around the facility to find someone to help me. After awhile, I was able to locate another CNA, and upon mentioning the vomit, the other CNA said, "Oh, your CNA is supposed to report that." Hmm? That CNA was busy with another patient, so I told her it was fine, and that I would roam around a bit more to locate my mom's CNA. I couldn't find anyone, so I went back into my mom's room. My mom was there because she had a corrective colon procedure done to her. She had colon cancer years ago, and they had to go back in, clean it and cut a few more inches of colon for her to digest properly. She had been eating only soup the past week and a half, and this was her first day at this sh:tty facility. I WAS SHOCKED! Her dinner consisted of long stringy spinach and some sort of tough looking tri-tip. ARE YOU FKN KIDDING ME? Needless to say, my mother began vomiting more shortly after dinner. At around 8 PM, my mom said she was tired and wanted to sleep. It was definitely time for her to be changed. I finally found my mom's CNA. She was hiding in a hallway texting on her phone. I approached her and asked about the vomit. She said that it was "normal" and that my mom requested not to be changed yet. I told her that my mom was going to sleep now, and asked if we could change her. The nurse went into my mom's room, handed me a hospital gown and walked out. I waited there a good 20 minutes, and she never returned. So, I changed my disabled mother out of her filthy, vomit-covered robe. I was fuming--I AM NOT THE CNA and IT IS NOT MY JOB TO CHANGE PATIENTS!!! ~FKN lazy heifer! Leaving the facility, I complained to another CNA who called Julie over. Julie said it was a simple "misunderstanding," Such BULLSH:T. It's simple. She is a FKN LAZY worker. If a patient is covered in dried crusty vomit...that vomit occurred hours ago! That same evening, my mother ended up being transferred back to the main hospital before midnight. Apparently, she could not stop vomiting and they finally called emergency. Funny, Julie said that vomiting is "normal". The next day, I noticed a rash all over my mom's bum and inner thighs. Based on where the rash is, she was either left to sit in urine or sit in poop...FOR A VERY LONG TIME!!!!! She did not have the rash prior to going to this stupid facility! This place is completely disgusting! I am really angry that they allow patients to be covered in vomit, urine and/or feces! This is my only experience with them and it scares me to know that so many other patients may be going through the same horrible experience that my mother has gone through. PS My mom was there to be rehabilitated. The goal was to have them help her walk and move around again post surgery. My mother told me they took her outside to walk around in the morning cold in only her robe. It's December. It's cold even when wearing a coat! Such @ssholes!!!! I would like to thank Gabbey Hernandez for assisting me to move my mother to her facility from another facility after her knee replacement surgery. My mother lost 6 days of onsite physical therapy at another facility. The other facility was not equipped for her. We were happy with Burlingame Post Accute from her first knee replacement surgery and requested to return back there. I made one phone call to Burlingame Post Accute receptionists transferred me to Gabbey after that everything fell in place. She worked with the insurance, Transportaion, pickup time etc. she was kind enough to share her number with me and communicated with me on her day off. That's Customer service our family couldn't thank her and Burlingame Post Accute enough. Great place for short term after surgery and has a great physical therapists. My father has been in and out of many skilled nursing facilities over the past 10 years. Peninsula is EXTRAORDINARY! They are under new ownership and it shows. The level of care my father received was amazing. It literally brought tears to eyes watching Magda take care of my dad after he had an accident in the bed late at night. He was crying, ashamed and embarrassed. She handled the situation with such grace and reassured my father that everything was ok and thus keeping his dignity intact. Ron arrives in the morning and showers my father. He plays my dad's favorite music and makes the most of an awkward situation. His positive attitude is contagious. I wish that everyone could experience his morning cheer and motivational ways. The OT and PT, Jodee and Brett, are, again, amazing individuals who somehow managed to motivate my father to dress and walk down the hall (which is a beat feat). I know that this place, under the previous owners had bad reviews, but they have turned around. I was skeptical about the care my father would receive but I am happy to say that I was wrong. This place is TRULY AMAZING. Everyone seems to be on the same page and have the same goal...making their clients feel at home and motivated about their therapies to get them on the road to recovery. If yelp had 10 stars, I'd give them 11. It was really that wonderful. Although my dad has only been at the facility for a couple of days, I'm extremely pleased thus far. My dad had previously been admitted to a different facility straight out of the hospital. It was so sub-standard that my mom checked him out after only one day. It was extremely urgent for us to find another facility that would be appropriate for my dad. After touring Peninsula Post-Acute, we felt this would be a very good place for my dad to get the treatment and support he needed. Brooke in Admissions was very informative and truly went above and beyond to very quickly get my dad approved and admitted! We toured the facility on Tuesday and he was admitted on Thursday!! The entire staff has been very friendly and accommodating and they have tried to address our family's concerns. They call you back when they say they're going to and keep the family updated. They are accustomed to dealing with difficult patients who really don't want to be there and do so in a professional, compassionate and friendly manner. I like the fact that this facility is strictly for short-term rehabilitation and is NOT a nursing home or convalescent hospital. ALL of the patients are there for the same reason.... to get the specialized therapy and treatment they need so they can get stronger and be discharged. Peninsula Post-Acute also boasts a "five-star rating", which apparently only 5% of these facilities achieve (we were informed of this fact on the orientation tour). I will add to my review once my dad has been in the facility a bit longer, but so far, I'm impressed! read more

My mom fell checking her bag at the airport on a Friday. After learning she had broken her pelvis, she needed rehab. Peninsula post.-acute had a rehab bed available. We knew it would be temporary because this facility was an hour and half from my home in Marin county. I'm so glad that they had an open bed. I had feared that she would not receive therapy on the weekend, but was pleasantly surprised that an occupational therapist worked with her on Saturday and a physical therapist worked with her in Sunday. That was just the start that my mom needed to jump start her recovery. While my mom was receiving therapy, my dad and I enjoyed sitting in the sunshine outside the facilities lovely enclosed patio. When a bed for my mom opened in Marin the staff was so helpful in effectuating the transfer. Jennifer, the clinical services director, was so attentive to my mom's needs while there. I so appreciated her help and guidance. And Kimberly in the social services department worked hard to make sure the transfer happened to get my mom closer to home. My dad got admitted there from Stanford after a bypass surgery for physical therapy.He was not happy during that stay. Nurses do not show up when they are buzzed beside the bad attitude they showed to my dad when he was asking for help. They tried to keep my dad there a longer time ,they said he needed that because they need to change on his incision every day. We decided to keep him there for one extra night as they requested. My dad got admitted there on Tuesday and he went home on Saturday. As I was told by the case manager it's better if I keep my dad there till next week because he needed his dressing to be changed every day. My dad came back home from Peninsula Post acute on Saturday unfortunately since my dad got at this therapy center on Tuesday they never change his dressing till he went home on Saturday. Very disappointing. On top of that when my dad got discharged we signed a paper that he is going home against medical advice. After my dad told that they have never changed his dressing till Saturday we were so glad that we took him home. After my dad went home we were expecting a wheelchair to be delivered to the house on his discharge day we were told that the doctor ordered a wheelchair that will be delivered to his house we have waited , the wheelchair never showed up. I called the case manager and I called the social worker and I left them both messages to call me back it has been a month until now nobody ever called me back. For sure my dad did not have very good experience there.and the whole family is very disappointed . read more

My family member in the area needed skilled nursing and rehab recently and we found Peninsula Post-Acute online. When we called to ask about the facility we were so lucky to have spoken with Michelle and Chello in the admissions department. They took the time to answer all our questions and made us feel comfortable having our loved one go there. The rehab team was great! We appreciated the nurses patience with us as this was all new to us and understand that the transition from the hospital is not always easy. Our family member really enjoyed their stay at Peninsula Post-Acute and they have the best therapist! I was admitted here for 3 weeks status post right knee replacement coming Stanford Hospital. The environment of the facility is very uplifting even at my weakest moments. It's like everyone cares. From the rehab department, nursing department, kitchen department, house keeping department, upper management, all were attentive to my needs. As a healthcare personnel, I have worked with many facilities, but this center stood out the most. the staff showers their upmost care and compassion towards their patients. The whole staff that works there is very sweet and kind always asking if we needed anything and helpful, takes not only good care of my grandma but our family even me when staying with her, its nice that they have activities there as well and includes the patients family to join in. This is where my grandpa stayed at before and only place my grandma will come to if she has to be in the rehab/nursing facility, they keep the place clean too. Everyone shares the same positive vibe for each other. Their always making sure that you stay/leave here with a big smile. No matter what. The foods, here will have its ups and downs. I have been working for PPA for about three weeks now and I am so happy that I found a new place to call home. Everyone has been so welcoming. It feels great to come to a place where everyone greets you and you can tell that the employees actually care about the patients. The communication between the department heads and staff is impeccable. Any issues that arise are immediately handled. With the visitor restrictions, it has not just been one person making sure families are able to visit through the window or see their loved ones on FaceTime/zoom- everyone plays a part in making family members feel at ease. Many employees take the time from their job to do weekly and even daily updates to make sure family knows their loved ones are being taken care of. It's great to know that during this crazy time, there are people who continue to do their jobs not just cause they have to, but because they WANT to. read more

I give this facility 0 stars. Within 24 hrs my mother was sent back to the ER. Upon arrival to the facility, it looked ok. Several hours later, no one had stopped by to even bring her a pitcher of ice water. If it wasn't for me being prepared with water bottles, who knows how long my mother would have gone without something to drink. On top of that, the room was riddled with ants. The next morning, I arrived at 7am to find my mother, with her recently operated leg, dangling from the bed, no oxygen, disoriented, and lying in a pool of her own urine! I pressed the call button and stepped out of the room, only to witness a worker walk in, turn off the call light, and walk out. Nothing was asked to my mother or me. Again, I pushed the call button, waited 15min, and this time no one came. Angered, but collected, I conveyed my concerns to the nursing station and asked if someone can come and help her. The response was, "I'm sorry sir, we are really busy right now. But, I'll see if I could send someone. Upon returning to her room I witnessed 2 workers enter her room, pull her back onto the SOILED bed and leave. Once again, I conveyed an urgency to the nursing station and with a "bothered attitude" the nurse said, "I'll take care of it." I returned to her room and 3 min later another nurse came in and immediately noticed that the entire bed was soaked with urine. She said, "Oh my God, I have to replace everything. She is soaked. This can cause an infection." I apologized for being upset and she said, "no sir, you are in your right. As a matter of fact thank you for complaining. I just started at 7am and when we complain, they think we are lying." I conveyed this to the doctor of the facility and he ordered her to be moved to a room across from a nursing station for better observation. Before being transported to the other room, my mother had fallen asleep due to the night she had before. During transport, which was about 30 yards, i noticed she didn't wake. I found this to be odd. Paramedics were called and the Nursing Director was asked; How long has she been like this? What medications were last administered? Her answers for both questions were, "I I I don't know." So, the Paramedic, frustrated, asked her to find someone that does know. So, with a "I can't be bothered attitude" she asked a nurse to answer the questions of the "EMT", when he was clearly identifiable as a "PARAMEDIC." My mother was taken to the ER and was discovered that she had now contracted a UTI. Incompetence is the only word to describe this facility and the Nursing Director. If you do not love your family members, then this is the place for you. If you love your family members and they are already in this facility, get them out as fast as you can! read more

Peninsula Post-Acute is a great place for rehabilitation. My 87 year old father was admitted the day we sheltered in place, so we could not visit. The wonderful admissions team, especially Chello, our angel, took care of Dad and us like we were family. She gave Dad a bed by a window so we could visit and see him at his window. Everyone at PPA was super friendly and helpful from start to finish. PT, OT, Nursing staff, Speech, and case managers were all so patient, caring and kind to my Dad and our family. I can't say enough about how Chello has been our go-to, who came up with solutions, listened to us, and reassured us. After Dad went home, she and Michelle even came to Dad's bday drive-by parade to represent PPA. That made my Dad's day. Thank you to everyone at PPA. read more

" he never heared me, and started doing his work. this left me unable to start. i asked for property bags yesterday. they said, " don't worry they will help you tomorrow. so today at ten am. my ride was there and iwas going over my rx lists. now in ten minutes i was packed and out the front door without a wheelchair. i was given a posit. with a medical supply co. stating it will be delivered today. i called they do not have me on file. like everything else it's a carrot!! paul l. bellanca read more

I reviewed based on my initial visit and the facility looked ok, but after a 3 day stay my mom ended up back in the ER and we found out she did not get the injectable medication she was prescribed. Before transferring there, I was assured that Peninsula Post Acute had 2 days of the medication because her pharmacy had to mail the Rx to her. I cannot recommend Peninsula Post Acute to anyone, they allowed to many important things to slip by. read more

At this time, we are speaking with an attorney to consider legal action against Peninsula Post Acute. At the very least, we will be filing a formal complaint with the governing agency that regulates California skilled nursing facilities. read more
