Today is my last day at Peninsula Post Acute after arriving in March. I am leaving today after reaching my goals with rehab in occupational and physical therapy. I have very mixed emotions in leaving as I've become very close with some of the staff members here. The staff members are caring, and very loving people and I consider some of them my friends and plan to stay in contact post-discharge. From the rehab team to the maintenance and housekeeping team, everyone has gone above and beyond to ensure I am mentally ok as well as physically. When bored they would print out some coloring pages from one of my favorite artists, Norman Rockwell or other fun designs. The courtyard outside is also one of my favorite places, you can see it from the gym and it's nice to be outside on a sunny day. What I love most about the facility is that they tried their best to make me feel safe and comfortable especially during COVID. They were able to place me in a room with a window facing the community so my family could always come and visit. Some employees to highlight are: MaryAnn- She was my CNA for most of my time at the facility, she's sweetheart and always tries her best. Terrance- he's the Housekeeping Manager and always checks on me and always with a big smile and very helpful with anything that I may need. Not to mention the rooms are always clean! Rochelle- from rehab she always lightens up my day with her sweet smile and positive attitude. Amy- also from rehab. She would ALWAYS come in the morning and help me get ready for the day. She truly went above and beyond. She always is checking on me and helps me put my socks on since I can't reach. Sammie- the way she runs her office is great. She helped me plan to go home and got all my rehab team together with my family to fully plan my discharge home. Kim- She would always check on me and spend time with me to make sure I was doing ok. I would write more but everyone at Peninsula Post Acute deserves to be highlighted (I just can't remember all the names) I'm leaving here with a lot more friends then when I came in. This place is a total joke..how on earth do you people stay in business and call yourself a "medical/care facility"? I have witnessed so many things that need to be investigated by the proper agencies and they should truly shut this place down!! My Mom was brought into this center after being discharged from the hospital right up the street. The social worker at the hospital gave this place such rave reviews....and boy was she far off base!! The staff is outright RUDE to the patients and visitors alike. My Mom was told to push the call button for "ANYTHING" she needed. Well..push the button, and be prepared to wait up to 45 mins before anyone even acknowledges that assistance is required. Once you actually get someone's attention, the key phrase from each of them is "Iet me check on that, and ill be right back"...and be prepared to continue waiting for another 5-10 mins, before any action is taken. This is ridiculous for patients who need assistance using the restroom, or need immediate help and are left to wait for an extended time. I watched a "nurse" or whatever she was called...bring my Mom her meds in her hand NOT GLOVED and then transfer them to a small cup to administer to her. When we asked for some ice water...the response was a heavy sigh, and then another disappearing act. We were also told by a nurse that my Mom would have to wait for her breathing treatment/meds...etc until AFTER one of the nurses had her "break"...and I watched this woman who was taking her so called "break" roam the hallways for over 45 mins before she came back and forgot what she was there for, so we once again had to wait for her to read the "notes" to find out what she needed to do for my Mom. I am truly disgusted by the lack of compassion these people have towards the patients and families. All I can say is I am glad this is just a "pit-stop" for my Mom...and as the staffs rude behaviors and lack of attention to detail continue, so will the phone calls I make to each agency to investigate these workers ability to truly provide the care and attention each patient deserves. read more

I've been working at Peninsula Post Acute since December of 2016. I started working here as activities and have grown with the facility over the last number of years. One thing that has always stayed the same is the quality of care given to each patient. Although not everything is a piece of cake- we will always try our best to accommodate patient's clinical and rehab needs. The facility is small but MIGHTY. We try our best to ensure that the patient's staying with us feel comfortable and understand what is going on. This is evident by the care conference meetings(game-planning meeting) that are done within a week of admission with our Social Services and Case Management team. If the patient's feel that their clinical needs aren't being met, our Nursing Leadership will go sit with them personally and try to figure out the best course of action that is safe and comfortable for them(with DR's approval of course!) My favorite part of working here is that the employees show an immense amount of care and KINDNESS towards all patients and family members, even other employees! We like to encourage teamwork as we're all working together to ensure all needs of the patients are being met. We understand and empathize with current social situations and will always try our best to assist in any way that we are able to. There is no crash course in how to care for a loved one when something unexpected happens and we understand how scary it is to leave your family member in the hands of strangers. "It takes a village" takes it's true form as we all work together for the same outcome of getting a loved one back home safely. My elderly mother was transferred to Peninsula Post Acute in Burlingame on August 12th after hospitalization for pneumonia and sepsis. She was still on antibiotics and at high risk of complications, and required close monitoring. Instead, she experienced neglect and unsafe care. A nurse named (Grant Stanley) treated her in a rude and unprofessional manner, and I personally overheard him use offensive language toward her on the phone. We reported this immediately and requested he not be involved in her care. Despite that, we later saw him in her section, showing disregard for patient safety and for our concerns. On another occasion, he withheld my mother's prescribed seizure medication for more than an hour, medication that is crucial for seizure patients, and it was only given after I called the facility directly. On the night of August 14th, my mother coughed continuously and developed a fever. She asked several times for her temperature to be taken, but was told it would wait until morning. No vitals were taken that night, despite her being high-risk and still recovering from pneumonia and sepsis. Another patient in the same room even heard her asking for her temperature to be checked and heard staff refusing. By the next morning, August 15th, her condition had worsened, and she was transferred to the ER, where her temperature was recorded at 102°F. This dangerous delay placed her at serious medical risk. When these incidents were reported, the response from leadership was unprofessional and dismissive. Instead of accountability, staff appeared more focused on protecting each other than ensuring patient safety. This was not simply poor service, it was neglect. Families should know that this facility failed to provide timely, respectful, and safe medical care to a fragile patient who depended on them. read more

To be honest, the first time I had to go to a skilled nursing facility, I was dreading it. But after having a great first experience at the facility, I chose to come back for additional care. While the architecture on the outside may not wow you, the team and care absolutely will! The real magic exists on the inside! It's amazing to me that every employee, no matter their role, knew my name. Even the person from marketing came in to check on me and make sure I was all set at the moment of my admission. The general atmosphere from day to day is positive and everyone appears very happy to be working here. From the nurses aids to nurses who get you what you need immediately and even the kitchen staff who cooked my breakfast early for an early doctors appointment, they all make sure you're taken care of. Also, I have to give big credit to Terrance who came into my room every day in the morning to motivate me to have a good day. I was amazed and still am months later that this facility has had no outbreaks with COVID. You hear about how many facilities like this have all these cases, but you can trust that you'll be keep safe here. The bottom line is the entire experience was very enjoyable and I'm happy to have trusted my care with this facility. If you need a place to stay, Peninsula Post-Acute is it! read more

I was a resident here for two and a half months and the people here are wonderful. The staff is caring and understanding and want you to get better so you can go home. You get three meals a day plus food anytime you want it. The rooms are cleaned every day and the floors are immaculate. The Activities Department makes sure that there are activities to do everyday so you don't get bored. There is a patio you can go and have lunch at to enjoy the sun. The Physical Therapy Department is the best around because they care about you. They know who you are, what you've done, and how to get you back on track. The doctors are always there for you. The other residents are usually very nice and sociable so you know you're not alone. The nurses know what they're doing and are always willing to lend a helping hand. Overall, the staff is very diverse and make you feel comfortable being here. I would definitely suggest coming to this facility after my own personal experience. Plus, family is more than welcome to visit and the facility is dog friendly! :) read more

When I had first arrived no one knew I was supposed to be here. Medication was not here for me so my husband had to go home and get my personal medication. After being here for a few days things were good. I bonded with lots of people building personal connection and discovering the people who work here are wonderful. My roommate and I had an instant connection and we formed a very strong bond and we will stay friends after discharging. I'm very happy with the physical therapy. It is wonderful here I don't think I would have gotten this care anywhere else. Thrilled with the admissions department, nursing staff and doctors. All my concerns have been taken care of after they are brought up. At the end of the day I would seriously recommend this place to anybody who needs rehab. I've been to a few nursing facilities and peninsula post acute has been the best one. read more

So many positive things to say about PPA. My wife has been benefiting from their services for 3 weeks now. She had a very challenging hospitalization that led to her needing therapy. Peninsula Post Acute came highly recommended by the physicians at the hospital. We toured the facility and met with the gentleman that supervises the facility, Shane. He was very kind and made us feel welcomed and comfortable. The facility is smaller in size, and this is a blessing to us. More time with clinical staff and all the time we needed in therapy to get back home (which is tomorrow!). We are so thankful for you all here at PPA - thank you so much! Oh, Jim! The entire staff from the cleaning & maintenance staff to the Nursing Staff, the Occupational & Physical Therapists are professional and courteous with patients and their families. This building is so great! They have the most attentitive and kind staff, a really nice updated building and their leadership team really cares. The Administrator Shane is available to help answer any questions or concerns. The DON Aurora and ADON Samantha take the time to help patients and family members understand their medical conditions and how to get better. The nurses and CNAs are all wonderful. PPA is a very caring, attentive facility. The staff is very pleasant and efficient. This place is clean, house keeping is good. This is my second time coming back. There is a doctor that does her rounds through out the week. The administration has done a lot for me during my stay. I like the fact that there is 24 hour nursing care. When there are issues concerning my care, doctors are informed. Overall, the service and care is good. read more

My husband was a patient for three weeks. He had been hospitalized for one week before being admitted to your facility. We were very pleased with the care and help he got. The Physical and Occupational Therapy were outstanding! He is now able to walk easily with a walker. The nursing staff, aides, etc. were pleasant, helpful and attentive. I hesitate to mention names because I might miss someone. Our experience was very positive. read more

This place just gets worst. I had a question for social services and when I park I see the weird janitor just smoking outside for almost 30 min looking at what I am trying to do. Why does he care go clean that filthy nasty facility. Social services can you all answer your phone if you want this wheelchair I don't want to drive there and see the creep that praises around patients instead of doing his job. read more

This skilled nursing facility has been a great experience. The CNAs are kind and attentive, and the physical therapy program is very effective. Everyone, from the nurses to the therapists, made sure I was comfortable and well taken care of. I would recommend this facility to anyone who is looking for a nursing home for themselves or a loved one. The staff at this facility has been so helpful in regards to answering all my questions and concerns.
