Have loved coming to this park since I was a child. There's so much to do: hiking, biking, camping, beaching, and even non motorized boat rentals on Nicolet Bay. The beach has a nice store with food, camping supplies, and toiletries. In the winter, you can snow shoe or cross country ski on the trails. The park is kept clean. If you want to camp, you'll have to book your site well in advance (11 months is the most you can do). The sites fill up fast. The sites are more open than I prefer, but the location and other amenities make up for it. It's a must visit on your trip to Door County! read more

Best camping in Wisconsin -- Nicolet Beach is a gorgeous place to relax while the kids play in the sand, and a snack shop, camp store and bike/boat rentals are very convenient. Peninsula has several campgrounds and all are good. The park is large with many trails, a lighthouse, a nature center, a watchtower a theater a sand beach and a stone beach. Just driving through the park is beautiful but I would like to live here! read more

Ok, it is a beautiful place, and there are a lot of things to do during the day in the park and surrounding area...but that is about all I can say good about this place. Unfortunately, the ownership seems to have decided to change things up, and is now taking a very rigid stance in enforcing stupid rules. If you enjoy the "quiet" peaceful setting (without normal conversation), then this is the place for you. There is a 24 hour quiet time rule enforced, and if a ranger walks by during the evening and can hear you from the drive (a few feet from your campfire and tent), then they will threaten to write you a $260 citation and possibly expell you from the park. For larger groups/families who have multiple sites, they will tell you that you must be back on your own registered site by 11 pm. In addition, the check-in workers are rude. The water provided turns to a dark yellow after it sits awhile. The bathrooms are very dirty. Also, they do not believe in cleaning up the many huge insects/spiders hanging all throughout the bathrooms. It is bittersweet that my family has been camping here for over 10 years, and have really enjoyed what this place has had to offer. We are not planning to return. read more

Fabulous state park! We camped in the Tennison Bay campground and rode our bikes all over the park. Great views, great beach, and great trails!!!! We would most definitely camp here again. This was our first trip to Door County and I think we will be back! The proximity to Fish Creek is so nice, we rode our bikes into town (with kids)...no need for the car. Lots of great restaurants in Fish Creek and shopping. Nicolet Beach is GREAT! Shade and sun, sand or grass, nice (but pricey) store there. The only issue I have is that I paid for our sites online, but then had to pay to get into the park when we got there. I felt scammed. They should try to include that fee in the online purchase price or at least give a "heads up." We ended up buying the year pass for an extra $5 since it is $10 a night to stay in the park and we stayed 3 nights. Showers were nice, had good pressure and hot water. Cleanliness depends on what time of day you shower, and who has gone before you (and not necessarily the park's efforts). I liked that the showers were separate from the bathrooms. We had an electric hook-up, not very shady in our spot but there were others that did have shade. Very clean park. read more

I recently attended this park, it was affordable as a full day pass was only $7.00! Or you could buy a pass for the whole season for $25.00. This park consisted of many bike trails, beaches, and camping sites. Also you could have the opportunity to take a tour of a historic lighthouse for only $4.00! I attended Nicolette Beach. There were tons of people there and it consisted of open areas, volleyball courts and even boat/kayak rentals were available. There was a gift shop and place to eat (nachos, hot dogs, ice cream, soda) and I very much so enjoyed the beach! :) read more

The best of the many state parks i've been to. It has everything you could ask for. In the summer there's Nicolet Bay for hanging on a nice beach. On beach you can rent kayaks, bikes, get a cone, anything you want. You have miles and miles of biking trails for both the casual cruiser and some really fun, more intense options for mountain bikers. The hiking trails are excellent and if you're into trail running, the entire park is your playground. You also have American Folklore Theatre, which is highly recommended. Growing up, my family and I would camp 2-4 weeks a summer in either Nicolet Bay or Tennison, and I loved it. We have a place in Fish Creek now but the park is still the focus of our time in Door County. In fall, the leaves are beautiful. In winter, you have miles of cross country skiing trails and a nice sledding hill. I'm not exaggerating when i say it's one of my favorite places on earth. It's rejuvenating. read more

I visited here in February so there was no fee to get in. The view from atop the lookout is spectacular and I can just imagine how much more lush and beautiful it would be in spring and summer. It overlooks Lake Michigan and the shoreline of pretty homes. It's definitely worth the brisk walk up the high lookout to see the view. Lots of yummy lunch and dinner spots in town too. read more

However, we did drive through and spend some time at Nicolet Beach and the lighthouse. Beautiful view from Vic's Bluff. There are labeled trails that don't match the provided map, so hiking for the directionally challenged (like myself) can be troublesome. All-in-all this is a beautiful park and would love to try cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling when there's snow. read more

Year-round delight. In the Spring we've enjoyed gentle short loop hikes and a climb to the top of the tower. In Winter, a great place for cross-country skiing. There is a beach in the park, and bike rental available, although late April was still too early in the year to take advantage of these amenities. While I have not tried any of these myself, there are paved and gravel bike paths and several mountain bike paths. Good spot for a variety of short hikes, and some fresh air. Campgrounds available as well. read more

Peninsula State Park is my first place to stay when coming to camp in Door County. The observation tower is really nice, and the location is good for getting to many of the things you'll have on your to-do list while you're there. There are nice sites near the water, tho I've never been lucky enough to get one and always ended up inland. Either way, it's a very big, spacious, gorgeous park. Highly recommend coming up here in the fall to check out the colors. There is a drive-in movie theater right across the street, and you're close to all the shopping and restaurants in fish creek, ephraim, etc. As it is a very popular park, especially during the summer, I'd recommend checking out one of the state parks on the other side of the peninsula for more secluded swimming and beach time. read more

After high school graduation my friends and i camped here. we got shit faced and screamed out of our tents for everyone outside to be quiet cause we were japanese tourists. (actually sounded like the stereotype) Oh geez the fun we had. This is my favorite state park. We have gone every year for the last 20 years. Miss the Eagle Tower though. Great bike riding and for riding mopeds. Last year we took a Door County Ghost Trolly tour that took us to Eagle Bluff Lighthouse and a cemetery in the park. Lots of fun! You can see bat boxes, excellent sunsets and pelicans. read more

So disappointing! My family has been coming here for years and years for camping, and unfortunately we will never return. I've been camping for 28 years, and have always been very respectful to nature and others. We experienced constant harassment from the rangers and the staff working here are extremely rude (from the people you buy firewood from, down to the people you rent kayak's from). There is a 24 HOUR quiet policy! By quiet, they are not talking about keeping music down or no yelling policy, you are literally not allowed to speak in a normal voice. We were told only whispering was acceptable. No exaggeration. Additionally, if you have pets, you will not be able to take them anywhere in the park. The bathrooms were filthy, and the water coming from the spickets/water fountains is dark brown! Also, no exaggeration. I would recommend this place if you were coming for a day visit, because it is pretty, but not for camping...unless you like pretending like you are in a library while camping, then go here. All other normal people reading this, don't bother! read more

This is the life. Definitely one of the best campgrounds in Wisconsin! We stayed in South Nicolet Beach and absolutely loved that we could walk to the showers, the park and beach because, who wants to pack up the car and fight for a parking spot every time you want to head to the beach! And ahhhhhhh, Nicolet Bay, crystal clear waters, sandy beach, great concessions and great watercraft rental options! We enjoyed the stand-up paddle boards, the kayaks and the pedal hydro-bikes and I was very happy that my kids were able to utilize all of the rental options as well. It was a great family activity and we really enjoyed paddling around the bay. There is so much to do in this park that we couldn't fit it all in and are already planning our next trip back. read more

Great park with a lot of trails to choose from. My wife and I came here in mid-April where it snowed about 4 inches day before we arrived. Although we still had a good time, we wished we came when the weather was a little nicer. We got the opportunity to explore the place a little bit because there are roads for your car. We drove around and made several stops. However, most of the roads were closed because of the snow but that didn't mean we couldn't hike our way though. Judging by the map (which I thought they could've done a little better job on writing out), there seems to be a lot of activities you can do at this park, such as golfing and bike riding. My wife and I will definitely be back some time this year when the weather gets warmer! read more

I do agree that this is a beautiful state park with plenty to see and do, however, the traffic is absolutely horrendous! Not only are you putting your life in danger trying to walk anywhere with bikes, scooters, and vehicles zooming by on the narrow roads, you are scared to death driving for fear of hitting the hundreds of cyclists and people walking! Definitely not as enjoyable as other state parks with less traffic. read more

What impresses me the most is the way the park is kept pristine despite the fact that it is in the top two most utilized parks in the Wisconsin system. Here in Illinois, our 'signature' park Starved Rock stands despoiled by the careless who consider nature something to be consumed and spit out. I saw one tree in Peninsula, along the bike trail, that had initials carved into it and therefore had a moment of sadness. Although the rules state no generators or setting up camp past 11 PM, people are people who will be selfish and ignore the rules to satisfy only themselves. I do wish they would patrol at quiet hour and check that the rules at that time are being honored by campers. The age of the monster RV aluminum jungle has reached into most parks and, of course, these dwellers need their generators to power their TV as their neighbor is trying to get away from it all and have peace. They assert their right to bring the city anywhere. read more

Fabulous! Amazing place to visit. We have camped here often and gave had a great experience each time. The park is gorgeous any time of year, but fall leaves a just breathtaking. It can get super busy which is annoying, but the park is huge. We have hiked, biked (road and mountain) and it is like no place other. I it were possible to give 1/2 a star, I would. Most unfortunately, this park must be under new management. Our group of 3 'mature' families have visited annually for many years now to camp over Labor Day weekend. The heads of the families are all over 50 years old with no small children. We were literally harassed every night by Rangers demanding total quiet or we would be issued huge fines and/or expulsion from the park. Needless to say, this cast an annoying cloud over the weekend and ruined any fun we may have had in the evening. Rangers actually came into our sites at 7 P.M. dinner time to warn us repeatedly. We were told "if you can be heard from the road (5-6 feet from your tents), you are too loud. The "Quiet Time" in this park is 24 hours long!! Posted everywhere! Most camp sites post 10:00 P.M. Quiet Time. Another thought we had was our Illinois license plates. I will let you all think about that one. So if you camp to read books in the evening or play chess, by all means check out Peninsula State Park. But if you like a bon fire with family members telling stories filled with laughter, maybe a game of Pictionary, definitely stay out of this park with their nasty rules and rangers. read more

If you do not take advantage of the great Wisconsin State Park system, you are missing out on one of the best features of Wisconsin. Peninsula is one of the best Wisconsin State Parks out of a bunch of great state parks. In the summer, camping is very popular, so if you go on a busy weekend, you better have a reservation. If you do not camp, Peninsula offers a just about anything you could want for outdoor activities. You have hiking, biking, beaches, boating, besides camping. You also have one of the best golf courses in Door County. The lookout tower offers a great view and well worth the long climb. Eagle Bluff Lighthouse is worth the stop in summer (a hike in winter, but worth it) and take the tour of the lighthouse. Peninsula State Park requires a Wisconsin State Park sticker. Buy one and then visit some of the other state parks in Door County or Wisconsin. Door County has the most state parks of any county in the nation, so you have a lot to see. read more
