I've been using this office for years. I believe this was my 6th annual exam and I always get multi-focal contacts, I've never used them for glasses. This year there was a new doctor who did my exam. I honestly didn't feel it was as thorough as it has been in the past. At my previous exams the doctor always counseled me about wearing my contacts less and not to exceed the "daily" wear. I can remember being shown models with blood vessels encroaching on my Iris and was told that they wanted to see those decrease. This year when I asked the new doctor about it, she said there were no problems. Since my wear pattern has remained fairly consistent, I doubt they disappeared, but let it go. At the end of my appointment, after my eyes were dilated, the doctor had me put the new lenses on to check fit and gave them her blessing. I couldn't see very well, but we both chalked that up to the dilation. Unfortunately when I woke up the next morning I still couldn't see. I left a message at the office (which was never returned) and went on with my day thinking my eyes were taking a long time to undilate. I fell TWICE walking bad enough to go to my regular doctor the next day. I also left another message for the eye doctor, which again was not returned. I Ubered to my regular doctor because I couldn't see to drive and she ordered wrist and knee x-rays due to the falls and referred me to an ophtamologist. The next day I thought to put in lenses from my previous prescription and voila, I could see again. This time I emailed the office copies of the packages from my old and new lenses and copies of old prescriptions. The only difference I could see was that the old package had additional numbers on it that the new didn't. The office finally called me back and I said I thought I received the wrong lenses. They argued with me that I had been given the correct lenses for distance. I don't know the lingo, I pay them for a service and every year for FIVE YEARS the only lenses I ever received or ordered were multi-focal, so NO, you DID NOT give me the right lenses. They had a different doctor call me back and I explained the whole thing to her. She understood what I was talking about and told me to cone in for new lenses anytime and that they would just change them out. I went a couple of hours later and again the girl, I think she was the optician, argued with me that I had been given the right lenses and she made me sit and wait until the doctor was done with her patient. Luckily the doctor I saw that Friday (my original appointment was Tuesday) was incredibly professional and kind. She was the first person in the entire practice to admit the mistake, apologize and work to defuse the situation. She provided the correct lenses and checked my vision against the eye charts while I was wearing them. Needless to say that I won't be returning nor even trusting them to order my contacts. There are a lot of choices out there and once trust is gone in a doctor, they have to work really hard to regain it. These folks seem to be set on proving they were right rather than caring about my health and providing me the right vision product. I DO NOT recommend. I switched to Dr. Shiue and PVO this year. My initial exams and experience were fine. Nothing too difficult and getting an appointment was pretty easy. I decided to get new frames / lenses and while the process was okay, they also didn't carry a great variety of frames and I had to shift to a new brand (ended up with Nike) and I kinda cannot stand my glasses. I did go back for an adjustment, but i liked my last pair of glasses much better. In recent months since that experience i've tried multiple times to email and call to simply get the receipts and accounting for the out of pocket costs (which were steep) and PVO does not return emails or phone calls. I've been super frustrated to be honest. Despite PVO being very close to home, i may switch back to my old N. Redondo vision providers for next year. read more

Be careful of the good old boy schools. They referred you back and forth and pretty soon you are lost in the shuffle. My wife has been seeing Dr S more than 3 years ago . Dr S referred her to see Dr Taban because she has AMD. My wife has being treated at Taban office for the last 2 1/2 years for injections in her eye every 6 weeks Dr Taban asked her to go back to Dr Shue for a REFERRAL to a cataract surgeon last month. We asked Dr Taban why can HE referred us to one knowing that he doesn't do cataract surgery. I could have found one ourselves but we followed Dr Taban instructions. By going back to Dr S. It cost us $134 up front for office visit because she had Medicare. She also has Supplemental Medicare insurance. Then Dr Shue did or repeated all the unnecessary exams for billing ..Here the EOB we got from Medicare. They got paid $101.92 from Medicare Plus $26 from our supplement insurance. A total of $127.92 on top of what we already paid $134 from our CC. All of this for a simple REFERRAL ??? WHAT A RIPOFF... read more

Dr Shiue was very friendly and took time to explain to me the test results. They have the most comprehensive test equipment among all optometrists I've ever had so far. The office worker are very friendly, efficient and flexible. Impressed me the most was that last year they made a mistake on my VSP benefit and accidentally overcharged me the eye glasses. To my pleasant surprise, they called me a month later to tell me the mistake and refund me the money. To be honest, I won't know a thing if they did not tell me. Great experience. The office staff was friendly and got me checked in quickly. The optician was patient and very friendly. Dr. Shiue was timely, friendly, and took time to explain his recommendations. They also have a cool machine called an Optomap that produces great images of the retina and allows the doc to screen for both retinal and systemic diseases. It's an extra $39 but I would highly recommend it. Will be going back here for eye care for sure. read more

I have gone here for several years for check ups and to purchase glasses. On each visit, they're on time, professional, and kind. I've always had a time picking glasses that really suit my face and these ladies took time to help me pick. They didn't act like they were in a hurry or that I was taking too much of their time. It was really wonderful. My glasses were ready on time and have worked out perfectly. They have a great selection of frames, from inexpensive to the top brands. This was my first time seeing Dr. Shiue and it was super easy to make an appointment. Dr. Shiue is very nice and knowledgeable. During my visit, I did the Optomap (which is basically a picture of the i side of your eye). Dr. Shiue sat me down and walked me through the Optomap results, went through any questions I had, and even pointed out where my optic nerve was (being a science nerd, I thought this was really interesting). When it came to glasses, this place has quite a few options and a lot of different shapes and sizes. Even though I tried on their high end brands like Fendi, Prada, Ferragamo, I actually found a regular pair (or just a brand I don't recognize) that I really liked and they were a really good price! I just picked them up today. I have been wearing glasses since middle school and these are my favorite pair of glasses thus far!! I'll be coming back soon for more contacts. read more

We have been going to this office for three years, now and with Dr. Shiue and staff we continue to appreciate all of their hard work. Dr. Shiue explains in detail, very nice to our family. Our boys had an appointment and I was suffering from bacteria on my left eyelid and they were able to see me the same day. Dr. Shiue recommend Meibomian Duct ThermaFlo treatment. I received one treatment and the next day inflammation on the eyelid was reduced. Ashley was very gentle and wanted to make sure that I was comfortable. Coast-to-coast, this is one of my least favorite ODs I have visited over the years! This mainly due to Dr. Shiue's noticeable lack of experience, training, etc.. regarding diagnosis and answering eye-related questions. Inaccurate diagnosis by a 1/2 degree in both eyes. Moreover, Dr. Shiue was clueless regarding the health signs that eyes can provide regarding heart diseases and cholesterol levels. Somewhat a well-equipped clinic, but beware, you'll pay for it all out of pocket, which is above and beyond your insurance coverage. Pushy sales staff interested mainly in selling up and at a much higher price above going market price for frames and lenses. The clinic advertises under the name of a previous and retired OD, whom she no longer practices at the clinic. One star for the overall experience, but two stars due to one of the receptionists being friendly and helpful. read more

Dr. Shiue is so great. He was very kind, patient, and thorough. I didn't feel rushed like I usually do with other doctors. What makes Dr. Shiue unique is his heart for his patients. My dad was at the end of his battle with cancer and extremely weak and couldn't leave the house. His vision declined rapidly and all he wanted to do was watch some TV. Dr. Shiue made a rare exception for him and made a house call. He wanted to do the job right and completely that he even came again the next night. He provided the proper prescription for my dad which made my dad so happy during his last days. I will always think of Dr. Shiue with such great gratitude. It's rare to have a doctor care THAT much for his patients. read more
