Our most recent repair request for our custom Roman shades purchased from this business was in early November, 2021, again for draw cord issues. I had called explaining that her repair guy, Spencer, had proactively left us a spare cord replacement in August, 2013. After responding that she'd have to charge for Spencer to return, she asked I text her photos of the cord mechanism using language she and staff are likely familiar with. I soon sent her what photos I could which she then acknowledged that ours was not the cord type she had strongly described, which then required me to send more photos -- frustrating! A month went by and no follow-up response from her, so I inquired for an update via text. She replied claiming she had a new phone and didn't know who I was! I reminded her with photos again...cord issue. She replied she might have an answer the following day. On December 14, '21 she oddly sent a map text, which I replied with a question mark "?" And 12/14/21 was last I heard from her, similar to the 7/1/16 and 3/11/13 Yelp reviews. As a long time, local customer I had optimistically hoped for professional/quality service this time. Fortunately, after additional researching, I now found a more reliable local repair shop which we will take our business to in the future for repairs or eventual shade replacement. read more

I dont enjoy writing a negative review, but in this case I feel I have to. This is a beautiful brick and mortar store in the heart of expensive Menlo Park. I don't expect them to be cheaper than Costco. What I do expect is good service, professional management, and high quality. Our initial store visit was great. Got samples, came home, decided what we wanted. Robyn came out and measured. She was nice. We got quotes a few days later. I was expecting her to call back and nothing. The quotes were expensive but not outlandish (I'd guess a 200-300% markup on fabric). After a few weeks I tried calling and left a message. Called again and was told the owner was busy and would call be right back. No return. I couldn't believe they weren't calling so I passed the project to my wife. Eventually she got a hold of someone (maybe 6 weeks after the initial quote). We give her all the quote numbers and she said they couldn't find them. Hard to believe. She wanted to come by to measure again. It was an odd visit. There was a lot of talk about how bad the previous employee was and how she had to be fired. I was expecting apologies for dropping the ball on us but instead was getting water-cooler confessionals. She re-measured (I'm pretty sure the frist person measured correctly) and made some other suggestions (which were actually beneficial). Then silence again. We tried calling a few times and leaving messages. Eventually we got updated quotes (maybe a month later?). The new quotes were more expensive than the original quotes. Perhaps we were being punished for trying to stick with a company through all of this. I would think that a business owner would honor the previous quotes, not up the price. I wanted to bail, but my wife wanted window coverings so we placed an initial order. When the materials arrived they came to install. I will say they did a very good job of testing the fabric and making sure it looked good. The installer was friendly. The mounting for our coverings was a little cheap - maybe this is the best out there, but I doubt it. After 24 hours all of our window coverings popped off the windows and didn't stay. My wife called and they didn't have much to say. In the end, we paid top dollar for white-glove service and got terrible service, long delays, and ultimately a product which is sitting in the closet because I have to figure out how to properly mount it in our windows. Personally, I think the owner has good taste and understands a tremendous amount about fabrics and design, but they are in dire need of assistance in how to manage a business, a reputation, and do customer service. I hope they improve because I'd hate to loose another small business in Menlo Park. BTW - the paper Home Depot window coverings are starting to grow on me :-) read more

Sent my blinds in for cleaning. Two weeks later, I called in since I didn't hear back from them. The lady said she'll check with her cleaner on the status. Four hours later, still no news. I called again and the lady said she totally forgot about me, and she said her cleaner already closed for the day (apparently they outsource the cleaning to another company). To her credit, she did follow up on the next day with the status. But I'm not too happy with the delay. At least they're honest. They initially charged me $40, but I got a letter in the mail saying they calculated in error, it was supposed to be $32. My blinds did came out ok though. In summary, 5 stars for honesty, 3 stars for outcome, but 2 stars for customer service. read more

Want to be treated like royalty with results that get raves from your guests? Peninsula may cost more than the big-box stores' service, but for us it was well worth it. We found they put the service back into customer service. In mid-2012, Patricia, the owner, helped us select three large sets of drapes, and shades for a dozen windows. She has an artist's eye for color, style and quality. And she tweaked her tips to fit our taste. When one set of wood blinds set off an allergic reaction, she whisked them away, dealt with the vendor and brought us replacements herself on a holiday weekend! Then a year later, we finally found fabric for closet drapes, but we hadn't gotten quite enough yards. Peninsula found a workaround and just finished doing a great job on a much smaller project. Spencer hung each panel with extra skill and care, measured each panel just so, explained how to open, close and clean (even pressed out a crease til it looked just right). It sounds hokey, but it all brings such grace and harmony, we love drawing the blinds and closing the drapes every night. Our one regret? We wish we had more windows! read more

I think Patricia and her team are outstanding. They've done Hunter Douglas honeycomb shades for our bedroom and a custom shade for our office, and we were completely happy with both. After five years the cords on one Hunter Douglas shade broke, and Patricia is repairing it at an incredibly reasonable rate. I believe she employed a designer for a while who didn't provide great service, and perhaps that's reflected in other reviews. But for me Patricia has been first-rate and has always provided great service. They only deal with top materials here, and that's a little more expensive, but from a sales, installation and service standpoint I think they're really a great shop. read more

They don't even deserve one star. I wanted to buy some Hunter Douglas blinds for our new house, so my husband and I visited the store to talk to a saleswoman. Upon hearing that we had already received a quote from CostCo, she basically refused to serve us, saying that they lose a lot of business to CostCo because of the significantly lower prices. We weren't thrilled with our CostCo rep, so we were willing to pay more to get better customer service; when we told her this, she still basically refused to send someone out to give us a quote. Too bad for them as they could have had over $10K in business. Don't go to this store; their customer service is horrible. read more

No clue what is wrong with this company! I went in on a Saturday to look at blinds and was able to get a same day appt for Patricia to come out and measure the windows. I told her we had guests coming in a few weeks and wanted to blinds by then if possible - she said it could be possible because she has a very good relationship with Hunter Douglas and can sometimes get expedited orders. After she came by to measure on Saturday and we finalized fabrics, she promised a quote by Monday. Then crickets...I emailed to check on Thursday, no response. Then I called the following Tuesday and spoke to Patricia who again promised a quote by end of day on Wednesday, which did not happen. Patricia is the owner of the business so I have no idea why she's been unresponsive. Seems like a waste of everyone's time to measure and discuss fabrics, just to bail and not quote in the end... read more

I tried some mail order catalog, that was more expensive, lower quality, and certainly lower service. Robbyn brought over samples and was very helpful. I am really at sea when it comes to the many choices, but she steered us in the right direction. When we later realized the price was over budget, of her own initiative she figured out a way to cut the cost by 30%. I am learning that using expert help not only gets a better result but can actually cost less. In the first case they helped me see that I could repair my existing blinds rather than replace them with something new. Sales and installation were both efficient and friendly. My second project involved my daughter's unfocused desire to have something new for her bedroom. Her installer (Spencer) was also terrific and got the job done in record time, perfect the first time. We bought a number of Hunter-Douglas vertiglides from Peninsula Window Fashion Gallery for our large sliding doors.Advice and counsel from Patricia (the owner) was very helpful in selection and measurement and installation was impeccable. This was 8 years ago (these folks have been in business a long time and have lots of experience). So we've been happy customers for some time. Just recently the cord in one of the vertiglide broke after years of usage and we learned that they really stand behind the products they sell. The repairs were FREE! [Of course this wouldn't cover damage from misuse]. You're not going to find that kind of customer support from the big box/franchise outfits. read more

I came in not knowing what to do with my Hunter Douglas blinds... Plus I had less than a week until my major event was taking place in the house. Patricia explained to me that it would be much better and cheaper and faster to clean my blinds (I did not know if that was possible), showed some samples, gave the price for a replacement (over $800... wow!); plus advised how to fix the little brackets that were broken. She assured my blinds will be done by the due date. When I stopped to pick them up, the blinds were not ready. However, Patricia took it very seriously and personally delivered my blinds to my house in Palo Alto in less than 2 hours! I was very happy, and the quality of work was excellent, too! We recently worked with the staff at Peninsula Window Fashions Gallery to install new blinds in our Redwood City home. We could not be more pleased with the customer service and attention to detail the staff exhibited. We found them to be extremely knowledgeable about not only their products but with color and design as well. Their suggestions were far superior to our original ideas....thank goodness we followed their advice! Our calls were returned promptly and barely two weeks passed between ordering the blinds and having them installed. Patricia answered the phone and I explained my challenge. She suggested I send a photo to her. We have used Peninsula Window Fashions Gallery for 2 different homes and unfortunately their service and attentiveness leaves so much to be desired. We have ordered 2 different sets of Hunter Douglas blinds and not only were the measurements of the windows wrong - and the blinds did not cover the entire window area, but the opacity of the blinds did absolutely nothing to block out the light. A couple of months later and the new blinds arrived to replace the original ones - yet still the measurements were not right. Instead of working with us, their salesperson became rude and frustrated and told us they could no longer help in spite of the hefty Hunter Douglas price tag and guarantee. To top it all off, one of the blinds broke and two months later - we have yet to receive the repaired or new blind. When called to ask for Patricia, the owner, to call us back, our call was ignored and the original idea of going to a small neighborhood boutique type of store where one would expect the owner to pay close attention to her customers proved wrong. While the installer, Spence, is a wonderful extremely knowledgeable technician who knows the business - the rest of the staff (sales people including Patricia, the owner) seem to be annoyed when customers have questions, concerns and problems. Overall, the predominant feeling is that while it is ok to place the order with them, any follow up and true caring and attentive customer care program is non-existent. Shame! read more

A friend referred me to Peninsula Fashion and I also read the reviews on Yelp. What struck me in the reviews was that people seemed to be super satisfied or super dissatisfied. I couldn't quite figure out why people had such different experiences. Assuming I would be in the good experience camp, I went ahead and visited the shop. I had a great conversation with the owner and we arranged to meet at our home. We agreed on the order pretty easily and she emailed me the costs. But after that the communications got odd. She said I could call or fax in my credit card info so I faxed it in. When no one called to confirm they received it, I called to check on things. I talked with an assistant and they couldn't find my fax at first. So I gave her my card info by phone and then she found the fax. I thought that's a bit odd but figured my order would be ok. I even got a card in the mail thanking me for my order and a note saying it would be 3-4 weeks. It has now been 10 weeks and no one is responding to my emails. I am just hoping to get my money back at this point. I plan to stop by the shop but I have very little time and haven't had a chance. I believe my order fell through the cracks but I would expect someone to return my emails. Very odd place. read more

This is my second time ordering Hunter Douglas blinds from them. I received a quote from Costco and they were significantly cheaper. I spoke to Linda about it because I still wanted to support her store since I was able to look at the different products and features at the store. My expectation was not for her to price match because I realize she has more overhead cost and her service is far better than that of the Costco salesperson. Linda came pretty close to matching the Costco price. I was expecting to pay more. Aside from the cost, Linda knows a lot about blinds, different features and she does not try to upsell you by any means. I also believe in supporting the local stores when possible. read more

I recently had to replace the old drapes in the condo that I rent out. Peninsula Windows delivered a solution that was the BEST SERVICE, BEST PRODUCT, BEST PRICE!! I told Patricia that I was on a short timeline to try to install new window coverings after the old tenants moved out and before the new ones moved in. Patricia came to the unit that evening after she closed her shop! She advised me on the most attractive, cost-effective, and durable options. I decided on Hunter Douglas vertical fabric blinds for the Living Room and Master Bedroom, and horizontal wooden venetian blinds for the Dining Room. My experience dealing directly with Patricia as the shop owner, and the one who worked directly with the supplier, and directly with the installer was 100% better than a previous experience I had with a "big box" store. She was able to meet my timetable, and I was able to go to the shop and look at all the sample materials for all the options. When there was a small problem with the installation, Patricia had the installer come back on the 100% materials and installation guarantee. I thought that I would have to pay more this type of service, but the price was comparable to what I would have paid at the "big box" store. When I first started looking for window treatment, I went to a store in San Mateo to get quote for Hunter Douglas mini blind. I was told by the salesperson that it not worthwhile for him to come to my house to take measurement. I shopped around with Redwood City Costco, a store in Palo Alto and Peninsula Window. I found Peninsula Window to have comparable price and good service. The owner was very helpful in choosing the material and suggesting the right style for the room. I am very satisfied with the installation and warranty service (a blind with broken string) and plan to go back for any future project. read more

I recently used Peninsula Window Fashions and was pleased with the service I received from Robbyn and Robert.,however the owner Patricia was rude and drunk. Patricia came out to measure for my Hunter Douglas blinds and I could smell the liquor on her breath again. I mentioned this to Robbyn over the phone and she was very apologetic and assured me she would come out to make the measurements and correct the problem. She was out the very next day! If you do go there, steer clear of Patricia and ask for Robert or Robbyn as they are the Designers. read more

This is a quiz. You call a window shade company about replacing a faulty motor in a remote control shade. You are advised by their representative that the motor replacement will cost about $200 plus $80 for pick up and reinstallation. They will confirm whether the motor must be replaced once they have picked it up. You agree to this process. Following pick up the store owner calls and informs you that the employee who gave the quote has been behaving erratically and she did not include the store's 100% mark up and other charges. The actual charge will be $520 plus $80 for pickup and delivery. The original $280 already being rather extravagant for remotely raising and lower a shade, you reply that you are not willing to pay more than quoted and please return the unrepaired shade. The owner says she understands and will only charge you the $80 pickup and delivery fee. So what do you do? (1) Pay the charge for service not rendered to get your unrepaired shade back; (2) plead unsuccessfully to get the shade returned without charge because this was a store error; or (3) get it back any legal way possible and tell Yelpers to USE GREAT CAUTION if you chose to deal with this merchant. This happened to me. My answer is self evident. read more
