I was looking to install a pergola in our backyard and evaluated multiple options and various different price points, including a DIY unit from a SoCal company and a European unit from a Florida installer. Process & Installation: After contracting, Bob provided shop drawings, confirmed all components, and ordered materials. He even graciously held the materials until our parallel construction dependencies were ready. The installation crew was highly skilled and completed the main structure in just two days. When a couple of Bromic heaters didn't work initially due to a faulty control switch, Bob and his lead installer followed up diligently over a few extra visits until it was perfectly resolved. I wasn't really sure what I was looking for when I went down to BlueSky to look at umbrellas. I wanted maximum shade that would fit on an awkwardly sized deck. It would have to stand up to serious rain and some wind, but not cost an arm and three legs. The show room was enormous and carried high quality furniture and umbrella models, including the ones I was initially geared towards. Bob was courteous and helpful. He walked me through options that matched my requirements and answered all my questions. He even helped me sketch out a layout to see whether my choices would fit. I had to do some homework on possible layouts, as that would affect the sizes and model styles, so we followed up on the phone later. Bob was able to confirm availability of models within my parameters and have them delivered in a short time frame - some umbrellas may be pre-made if you like the common color options. I have to call out one handy little item - I didn't even know that I wanted the auto-tilt feature until I saw that umbrella holding strong while angled downward against gusts of wind today. I'd be disappointed if I didn't have it now! Angus delivered and installed the umbrellas for me, with just a little assistance when putting up the large one. He was patient, knowledgeable, and helpful. He explained the features and gave suggestions on how to protect and care for them given my location and weather. He was able to measure exactly where to position the massive cantilever base so that the umbrella didn't collide with other structures. I would've measured it incorrectly, and you can only try out the cantilever format after all the weights have been placed. I'm thankful he was installing them for me! I have been a customer of BlueSky and Bob's for 6 years and followed him from location to location. The furniture we bought 6 years ago is still as beautiful as it was the first day. Recently we took our table to BlueSky because guests had spilled wax on it. Knowing how hard it is to get wax out of anything, I thought the table was ruined. The wax somehow made it all the way through the table and was visible at the bottom as well. However, when I went to pick it up, I thought Bob showed me the wrong piece - it looked like it was brand new. I highly recommend BluSky Outdoor and Bob. They have the highest quality teak furniture (I did a lot of research) and they also provide reasonable and high quality maintenance. GREAT PRODUCTS, GREAT SERVICE! During a recent landscaping project, I started looking for outdoor furniture and shade. Google searches led me to discover Blue Sky Outdoor and I'm thrilled that I did. Blue Sky had a nice selection of both furniture and shade products. During my visit to the showroom, owner Bob Grossman proved to be very knowledgeable, taking time to answer my questions, review the furniture product lines he carried, and demonstrate how each of the various models of shade umbrellas worked. Bob even loaned me his fabric swatches so that I could review them at home against other items in my outdoor space before deciding which fabric and color to order for the umbrella canopies. Based on this experience and the quality of the products he carried, I placed a large order for TUUCI umbrellas. Before purchasing, I considered other vendors as well, but Bob's pricing was very competitive. He put together a detailed invoice and placed my order promptly. Given delays on all fronts due to COVID-19 related supply chain issues, Bob kept me updated of the order's status, including delays due to material shortages. Because three of the umbrellas that I purchased were going to be installed into in-ground mounts, Bob went the extra mile in providing detailed instructions for proper installation so that the umbrellas would be secure. Coordination of delivery and install was done equally efficiently. During delivery of smaller umbrellas, we found manufacturing defects with both canopies. Bob processed a claim on my behalf immediately and ordered replacement canopies. Upon receipt of the replacement canopies, he had his installer come onsite and do a swap. All went smoothly. I wanted to let others know that BlueSky Outdoor has provided great service and sells great products. We bought some chairs from them many years ago after we moved to Palo Alto and came back last year for more teak outdoor furniture after being underwhelmed by other available options. They offer classic styles, and they also provide restoration services at a reasonable price. I was very impressed recently when I discovered that a crucial part of one of the chairs we bought 12 years or so ago had disappeared. Although the manufacturer was no longer in business and the exact part that was missing was no longer available, Bob Grossman the owner and his team found a similar part that did the trick perfectly. Originally, "Bob", was helpful and relatively diligent in my need to find an outdoor furniture cover. His recommended covers did not fit my furniture, and when I went back to let him know, he blamed me on the information that I have provided, was obnoxious, abusive, and informed me he cannot do anything. I do not remember, ever in my life, someone so repugnant. I asked for his name and flagrantly and vociferously said: "get the ...!$@ out of my store". I have waited to think carefully on what happened and rationally accept any responsibility I might have had. I never used a bad language and I accept, that after his insistence in blaming me, I was assertive in communicating that the covers were not fitted. If this infuriated him, he should not be in business. I lost my money ($347) and I was abused. Save yourself of hassle and difficulties and use a professional business. read more

I visited 5 teak vendors: here, Toms in RWC, Terra in MTV, Paradise Teak and Garden Teak in the East Bay. Based on what I visually see in the 5 showrooms, Blue Sky probably has the highest quality teak. While all 5 vendors boast "Grade A teak, mortise and tenon joints," Blue Sky's teak is even-colored, smooth, joints carefully executed, and overall very solid. Bob is the business owner, and has been in business for over 10 years. He pays special attention to the design of his furniture. For example, the lumber support and the seat curve on his dining chairs are really supportive for the lower back and buttocks -- really demonstrates the attention to detail. His benches also come in different sizes, in 3 inch increments, because different sized tables would be better paired with different benches. This proved to be true when I saw the different sized options paired together. Excellent customer service. Bob took the time to explain teak, his furniture, the styles, and had his team members rearrange the furniture pieces so I can visualize how different combinations would work, in order to decide what to purchase. He showed me the backroom and how the joints are joined together. He has many dining chair styles lined up against the wall and encouraged me to try them all to pick the one I like best. In addition to the prices you see on its website, delivery (I'm close by) is $95, and assembly is $25 for a table and $15 for each chair or bench. The main drawbacks are (i) the prices are the highest among all the places I visited, and (ii) I felt a pressure to buy. On the latter, it's probably a common sales tactic, "if you buy before next Tuesday, I'll honor this price." But still, given this is a big monetary investment, I'd appreciate taking my time. I'm not sure why this place is so poorly rated on Yelp. I also read the 12 "filtered reviews" and they're all very positive. Read the reviews, one of them is 1 star but the words are glowing! I visited Blue Sky, Terra, and Tom's Outdoor Furniture, and Blue Sky had the best price on Grade A outdoor Teak furniture. Bob was great in recommending certain furniture pieces, and even responded to my emails when he was out of town. He has tons of fabric books for the cushions and the umbrella. The furniture arrived to my home in perfect condition and the delivery people placed them where I wanted them. My only issue is feeling the pressure to purchase right away before the same prices go up, but I did wait it out as I did more research and Bob still honored his original quote. read more

Absolutely useless customer service. I placed an order for a Tuuci umbrella back on October 4th and was told from the onset it the lead time would be 30 weeks. I started asking on the status of the order on April 6th. I was told it would be ready to leave Miami mid-May. On April 18th I was notified the umbrella shipped. I immediately contacted BlueSky Outdoor and asked them to delay the shipping because I don't reside full-time in Maui and wouldn't be around to take delivery of a $2,500 umbrella. I asked them to coordinate delivery for on or around May 16th. It is now May 30th and there is no sign of an umbrella. Last Tuesday, I was told the umbrella would be delivered by the end of the week. I was thinking they upgraded the shipping to UPS 2nd Day Air. In tracking the shipment, I learned it shipped UPS Ground and it is still in Jacksonville, FL. It appears my family with grandkids will have visited us here in Maui and left by the time the umbrella arrives. The communication from BlueSky Outdoor is pathetic and I am beginning to feel they lie to customers to get them off their backs! read more

I purchased number of chairs, tables, ottomans, seat cushions, pillows, an umbrella, umbrella stand, and an outdoor rug from The Teak Patio two years ago. I shopped around and found that their designs were well thought out, and the quality of their pieces was the best that I could find. Their prices were also good, especially given the quality of their teak furniture, and the quality to price ratio was the highest I found. I purchased the green "dupione" cushions that The Teak patio has custom made for its pieces, and it was well worth it. They look great, and are very comfortable. My guests love to sit in them. The bottom cushions are somewhat firm, and the back cushions are softer, and more plush. The teak that the furniture is made of is untreated (i.e. it's not stained or sealed), and will turn grey over time unless treated with a sealer. Any purchaser should consider using Semco sealer (sold by The Teak Patio) with UV protection in it to seal the wood, and protect it from oxidation and stains. I had The Teak Patio apply the first coat of Semco sealer for me before they delivered the pieces. I use the "Natural" sealer that gives the wood a very slight natural tint, and has some UV sun protection in it. Since my purchase two years ago, I've reapplied the sealer annually (twice so far), and it puts a very nice finish on the wood. The sealer is "pricey" (about $30.00 a quart), but not much is needed to reseal the furniture. I have eleven pieces of teak furniture that I have resealed, and it took only about 6/10th's of a quart of sealer each time, wiped on generously with a rag, to reseal the furniture. It's easy to wipe on with a rag. I also bought furniture covers for each piece from the Teak Patio, and I leave the covers on when I'm not using the furniture. The covers are a light beige, look nice, and do a good job of protecting the furniture. Covers are also available online from The Cover Store. Dominic at the Teak Patio helped me with my purchases. He was very knowledgable and courteous, and I found him very helpful. Bob, the store's owner, was also very helpful. I had Dominic deliver the furniture, and bring it into my back yard. He was out to my home for the delivery within a day or two after the purchase and the first application of sealer, and did a great job. I also purchased an outdoor rug to place the furniture on (see photo above), and that added a nice visual touch. However, within the last two years, the rug discolored (to be expected given that it's been outdoors), and began to come apart, which was unexpected given the initial price of the rug, and that it was specifically made to be an outdoor rug. I just recently replaced it with a less expensive, but nice looking rug I found online. Overall, my experience with the Teak Patio has been a very pleasant one. The teak furniture is very well made, and the cushions are very nice. The teak furniture is classic, and makes it very comfortable for my guests to lounge around in. My wife and I decided to replace our aging iron-and-glass patio furniture with an expandable teak table. We had been to Tom's Outdoor Furnitire, where we found a table that we liked, but they had no chairs in stock. We reserved the table and waited for the chairs. Then, a friend suggested that we look at BlueSky. We stopped by and they had a very similar table + side chairs + end chairs + bench for a much lower price than what we had seen at Tom's. We figured - equivalent quality at a lower price is great, so we cancelled the Tom's table and bought from BlueSky. We bought on the Thursday before Memorial Day. When Bob, the owner, asked when we wanted to have the furniture delivered, I said that we didn't need him to do anything heroic - that we would use our old furniture when friends were over for Memorial Day and we would start using the new furniture whenever it arrived. He said that he couldn't make promises that he could not keep, but would get the furniture to us as soon as he could. On Sunday, Bob called and said that he could deliver the furniture on Monday, Memorial Day, at 10:00 am. Incredible!!! We were able to clear out the old table and set up the new before our guests arrived. I was amazed that Bob was willing to pay his delivery guys extra to deliver on a holiday, just so we could have our new furniture with our guests. The funiture is fantastic, and you just don't see customer service like that very often. read more

I visited Bluesky Outdoor this past week. I am giving it four stars because I was impressed with what I saw. The location was very convenient; it is next to Fry's with plenty of parking. Rather than calling it a ski and snowboard gear store; I would call it a ski and snowboard apparel store. I was very impressed with the brand names that they carry; i.e., Helly Hansen, Dale of Norway, etc. Helly Hansen makes a great baselayer called HH Dry LIFA -- keeps you very warm. For women's "long johns", it has a full cut in the seat, so you do not have this low-rise or sliding down feeling. BlueSky carries this product. In the men's department, they had a men's side full-zip Gortex pant. It was great -- easy into them and easy out of them. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the brand name. If I had a wish list, I would like to see more two-way zippers on the women's jackets, full-length side zip Gortex pants for women, and three-quarter length (or boot-length)baselayers for women; i.e., the HH Dry LIFA. The 3/4 length is a new trend that both Helly Hansen and Patagonia sell. It makes sense; the tights end where the boot sock picks up. I prefer the cut on the HH over the Patagonia. Considering that BlueSky Outdoor only started this winter wear collection in October 2010, they are on the right track; i.e., good selection for men, women, and children -- also a good selection of accessories; i.e., hats, mits, etc. It is my understanding that in the summer, they will be selling patio furniture; in the winter, it will be ski/snowboard apparel. read more

We felt the quality of the teak furniture from The Teak Patio was better overall in terms of craftsmanship and quality. It just seemed like it would last longer. I had a great experience shopping here and the quality of the furniture is outstanding. In August 2014 I had just moved to San Francisco and needed to furnish my deck. After doing some research I decided that teak might be a good investment. Blue Sky was the first place I went because it's two minutes from my office in Palo Alto. Bob, the owner, helped me move his furniture around and simulate how things would be arranged on my deck. After we priced everything out it was a bit over my budget so I decided to shop some more. My next stop was Terra Patio in Mountain View. Terra had a good sale going on at the time, but I thought the teak at Blue Sky was a little better and I felt like Bob deserved another chance at my business. When I told Bob about the prices at Terra, he explained how and why his teak was better. I couldn't disagree with him; this wasn't just a pitch. He came down to a price that was still a bit higher than Terra but that was closer to my budget so I took his offer. As he was drawing up the order, he gave me an even *lower* price (by $100) to match a sale that was going to start in a few weeks. If that's not honest business, I don't know what is. I ended up buying a 6'-9' butterfly expanding table, umbrella, eight chairs, a coffee table and a sun lounger, as well as cushions. This was back in September, and all the furniture made it through the winter. It doesn't look quite as good as it did when new but still feels very solid. On delivery one of the items was wrong (I was supposed to get a rectangular coffee table rather than the square one that was delivered) so I refused it and the delivery guys took it back. I was able to pick up the correct coffee table later. It's not easy to find furniture that stands up to San Francisco fog and dew. I'm glad I made the investment in high-quality teak, and Bob was a fair and honest salesman. read more

BlueSky delivered on all three. BlueSky helped to secure many fabric samples from various sources so that I could perfectly match my other outdoor furniture cushions. Once ordered, the furniture was quickly delivered by a careful team of professionals from the store -- no outsourcing of delivery; another plus. We did spot a few areas on the furniture which were not finished as consistently as the rest of the piece. Bob quickly apologized and fixed the problem with gentlemen who spot refinished on site on my patio -- everything looks great. Once we saw how our existing teak looked next to our set from BlueSky, we hired Bob to refinish our outdoor dining table and chairs plus other furniture throughout the yard. The Teak Patio advertises itself as being open from something like 9am to 5pm Friday through Tuesday. We stopped by one Sunday afternoon and a hand printed "sorry we're closed" sign taped to the door. Figuring it was just bad luck, we stopped by the following Tuesday afternoon only to find another "sorry we're closed" sign. I found this place because they are the only place on the peninsula that sells Semco teak sealer. When I originally purchased my outdoor teak furniture (unfortunately not from here- formerly known as The Teak Patio), I had been told to spray down the furniture with Semco. After a little bit of investigating and searching, I discovered this stuff was the best sealer to keep teak in its natural, original color as possible. (you all know untreated teak turns that ash color in about 1.5 years time, right?) So, this past weekend was my second year where I pull down all my furniture off our deck and spray it down with the 'natural' Semco sealer. I needed another gallon (although I really only used 3/4) and called over to Blue Sky to make sure they had it. The first time I called they were out but expected a shipment later in the week. I ended up driving there Saturday morning and I was good to go. I found out from the owner that this place apparently will now start selling pretty nice (ie: Helly Hansen and the like) ski/snow/winter gear starting in November for the ski/boarding season. Hence the name change. So teak furniture in the summer/spring/fall and cool cold weather garb in the winter. There you have it. read more

I contacfed Bob for replacement umbrella fabric after my original fabric wore out and became faded (about 7 years). Bob promptly sent me the replacement fabric which turned out to be the wrong configuration. When I informed Bob of this he investigated and found that the oval configuration I had ordered was no longer being made. He apologized and promptly sent me a new umbrella to accomodate the round umbrella fabric that I had been sent at no charge. I was and remain a very pleased customer. read more

I just had two of our teak chairs fixed at BlueSky today. I am very happy with the result and wanted to share my pleasant experience. Some bolts that fasten the sliders of the two chairs came off. The chairs are part of an outdoor set (table + 6 chairs + a bench+ umbrella) we bought at store called The Teak Patio almost 10 years ago when we were living in Palo Alto. Except for the broken bolts of the two chairs, the set is still in great condition even though it has been placed outdoor fully exposed to the elements ever since we took them home. As Teak Patio is no longer there, just to try my luck, I googled and found a contact number for BlueSky for teak furniture. I called not sure how BlueSky would respond since I no longer have any receipts to show proof of purchase. I was however pleasantly surprised when Bob just asked over the phone where and when I bought the set. He then told me to bring the chairs over the next day and they would try to fix them. And sure they did! I was at their Menlo Park in less then 10 minutes and they did not charge me anything either. read more

Very nice selection of top brands of ski wear -- Spyder, Helly Hansen, Arcteryx, Marmot, etc. Unusual to be able to find things hanging right there to try on, and they're exceptionally helpful about looking up whether the size/color/feature you want is available from that or another manufacturer. You can buy cheap junk everywhere, but I can't think of anywhere else in the Palo Alto area to get good quality, technical gear for serious skiers. Their prices don't feel marked up from what you see on the web, so no reason NOT to go there and get your hands on the real gear and help from people who know the products. read more

Just purchased a large set of patio furniture and bar stools. Spent lots of time in the store and both the owner and one of the sales associates were super helpful and I did NOT feel any pressure to buy. Yes, it's more expensive then some other furniture, but the quality and designs are much better. Although we spent more than we originally wanted to, the owner worked with our budget and we were able to get more than we thought we would. All in all, very pleased and the experience and love our furniture! read more
