Had the best time at Penn & Beech as a little day date with my husband. We made a reservation online which was so easy and nice to know we had a spur then walking in. Someone greeted us immediately showed us to our spot, gave us the run down and then sent us on our journey of making our candles. She stopped by to check on us periodically and it was such a fun time. We to the point ok making our candles after picking our scents and she guides us through which ones would be a good combination. We poured named our candles and then was able to pick them up within just two hours. Now every time we light them at home we get so excited and get the reward that we made them!! Great experience! It was our first time going to Penn & Beech, and the staff were super friendly guiding us through the process. Tons of different, interesting scents to choose from. They smelled clean/high quality too. The candles are definitely on the expensive side--you're really paying for the experience (getting to choose your scents, container, do the mixology, write your personalized label). You can mix up to 4 scents with your own ratios, as well as choose between a candle vs reed diffuser as your final product. The diffuser can be taken home immediately, and the candle can be picked up 2 hours later after the staff finishes the wax. I'd say it's worth! You can also bring your own container for a $5 discount. Overall very nice time! We mixed ginger ale and key lime to make a sierra mist candle, LOL read more

I booked a reservation via Yelp a couple weeks in advance for candle making. I had a friend in town and thought this would be a fun & different activity! We absolutely loved our experience!! Everyone at Penn & Beech was so kind and helpful. They really make the whole process very easy and help you select scents that will produce a great smelling candle. I really enjoyed the wide range of scents they had, and you could try as many as you like! They recommend 2-3 scents per candle. They also had a great selection of vessels at many different price ranges. The lowest was around ~$30 and go up to $50. I opted for one of their more traditional single wick designs but my friend went with a really pretty green vessel with two wicks. It took about 2 hours for the candles to set up, which gave us a great chance to walk around Grandview :) I highly recommend this experience! It was definitely something new and fun to do! We did not order any drinks while we were there but they do have a great selection of NA and alcoholic beverages. read more

Took my extended family to make candles, had ages from 6-76! I say it was a hit! We all smelled the extended variety of candles, then wrote down our favorite. A very helpful employee helped us pair smells together, she explained all the steps and was very attentive. We picked up the cured candles the next day. I think my kids, niece and nephew had a great time doing something different together. My only feedback is the prices. Call candle shop with unique candle scents. The wife and I ended up getting a sea breeze candle because it smelled like the ocean. We are avid cruisers so we love that smell! The wife was very interested in the candle making and cocktail deal they have as a fun girls night idea. I guess you can make some candles with the oils you like and drink while you make the candle. A friend of mine was heading to Columbus from out of town for a short visit and the first thing she said she wanted to do was make a candle. After making a candle here last month for a Yelp event, I knew exactly where to take her. We made a reservation on Yelp (which was easy peasy) and started thinking about what kind of scent I wanted to make. With it being fall, the absolute best time of year in Ohio, I knew I had to make one perfect for the season. We arrived on time and found plenty of free parking behind the store (free until 6pm that is). We walked in the back entrance, walked up to the counter, and they greeted us with instructions on how to get started right away. My friend and I headed straight to the scent wall and got straight to picking out our favorites. Once we had those down, we picked out our candle vessels (I went with a sparkly rose gold one) and found a seat to get down to business. Building your scent is really fun and super easy, as is stirring it into your wax. After that, you wait! There's plenty of places nearby to get a drink, bite to eat, or just stroll around. You also have up to 14 days to pick it up. Just in case you head home and want to come back later. The pick up process is also smooth and my candle smells amazing and I haven't even lit it yet. If you're looking for a fun and carefree activity, this one takes the cake! read more

What a super cute location! Compared to the short north location, this one has way more space to move around and sniff all the candles. I love the set up of the space- modern with cute greenery. Parking can be tough since it's street parking, which is free, or there is a parking lot close by which is paid parking. I was here for a Yelp event and the employee walked me through the whole process. I love that you get to choose your own scents, as many as you want, and then mix 2-3 scents towards the end. The employee will tell you what will work well and what won't. The pricing for a candle isn't too horrible as you're also paying for the jar. They have some super cute jars, but they can get pricey. read more

On a whim, on our way to our car from Lion Cub cookies we happened upon this candle lab. You choose a vessel, pick your smells and blend together for your perfect candle fragrance. I had a great time! The candle masters are super helpful to get it just right. I felt like a true pro when we left. My hubs enjoyed it more once he started drinking. This place is ADORABLE! They have lots of different scents. They are soy-based and say that they are pet/child safe as well (meaning no harmful ingredients are inhaled). They had A TON of options. Some were great, some were just not our cup of tea, but that is okay. We loved the variety, from foods to flowers to wood to beaches. There were so MANY! What's more is that they even offer parties to make candles and drink as well. We are highly interested in coming back and trying a party with them. This was my first time at this location. Parking is an issue, but it was Sunday so there was availability in a lot down the street. I took my 11 yr old grandaughter and her friend to pour candles. We were greeted right away, and told it would be a 2 hour wait to pick them up, which is longer than I have had in the past. As normal, the process is explained by the greeter and we were given clipboards to write our favorite scents down. I did take advantage of the buy 3, get 1 free and I poured 2 for myself. The girls had a great time and there was enough to do within walking distance to kill time (lunch, ice cream, library and the park) before picking up the finished products.
