a pile of fries
Steve C.

Craving Penn Station . . . found one on Manchester Road in Ballwin, MO. Ordered my usual chicken teriyaki sandwich . . . delicious! Wanted small order of fries . . . mere crumbs. Each fry was what you would get out of a frozen bag of French fries . . . at the bottom. Take them back to counter . . . associate informs me they cannot replace them . . . beyond shocked. So I am sharing this review of my experience today at Penn Station. I still love them . . . just not the awful fries or the uninformed Penn Station associate.

Joey B's has delicious food! I recently tried the Sunday fried chicken dinner, and it was packed…read morewith flavorful sides and perfectly golden-brown chicken. If the weather is nice, sitting outside is definitely the way to go. My only complaints are that I wish the fried chicken was available every day and that side substitutions were allowed. I would have loved a white gravy option instead of brown. Joey B's is a fun, casual spot that's perfect for getting together with family or friends. I'll definitely be back! The service is also friendly and fast.

Honestly the best thing at our table were the rounds of appetizers, the brussels sprouts, spinach dip and "pretzels" (i swear pretzels were deep fried, they had a beignet like consistency) those seemed like sanely sized, well seasoned and prepared. The entree items on the other hand, they all seemed like somebody's idea of what they should be, and less like the actual thing, presentation was better than taste. Service was great though! Seemed like a good attentive staff. This place reminded me of Lamberts in several ways, in fact Joey Bs is like some St. Louis suburban living version of that. "throwed rolls" are way too gauche for West County though, so its generally a kind of sports bar atmosphere. So Lamberts in Sikeston is awful, except for the "pass arounds" which are pretty good. Lamberts main dishes had the same steroidal, huger than possible, unexceptional tasting quality as Joey Bs. And like Lamberts, holy crap was Joey Bs busy so what the fuck do I know?? Clearly nothing, I guess "we" sure do love our marginal and gigantic food, people tend to eat with their eyes!

Wildwood Pub and Grill has been a frequent meeting place of ours for years. The service is great,…read moreit is a sports bar so there is always a game on (if that's your gig) and the food is very good. My favorites here are the Wildwood salad with ranch (their ranch is perfect) and their thin crust, St. Louis style pizza. Tonight I had the 1/2 Wildwood salad. I always sub the spring mix for spinach, which is really filling.

They have a large patio that's out front - kind of part of the parking. We opted to sit inside. I think we waited about ten minutes before anyone came to our table. She asked if we had been helped yet and we said no. She got us a cocktail menu (one was not given to us with our food menus). She was a good server throughout our time there! We ordered drinks and a starter and then figured out our entrees. We LOVE big pretzels! I've never had a bad one - until the one we had here. It was not good. There were little black seed type things - maybe poppy seeds? Unusual and not good. But even without that - not good. And the two sauces that came with it weren't good. My husband had pizza and said it was okay. I got fish and chips and did not like it. There were three pieces of fish, tartar sauce, and coleslaw. I chose onion rings for my side. I ate one piece of fish. It was really overcooked. The tartar sauce was not good. I didn't try the coleslaw because it didn't even look like coleslaw! My husband will try just about anything and he wouldn't try it. The onion rings were okay. We were there on a Saturday night and it wasn't very busy. We won't be back.

We decided to try East Coast Pizza for our business lunch. They have a nice concept for comfort…read morefood. There's patio seating. It casual dining. You walk in and to the right you see pizza. There was a brick oven being used to reheat the pizzas. The customer service was okay. The young lady that took our order could have been more pleasant. The rest of the staff were pretty nice. The food was good. I had a chicken Philly and fries. The bread was very soft. The sandwich was tasty. The fries were a texture fries. I don't like those, but these fries were very good. I sprinkled some parmesean cheese on the fries and dipped it into the buffalo sauce. It was mmm mmm good.

You can order pizza at the counter by the slice or you can order one up their traditional pies or build your own. If you wish they do offer a kids menu as well. You just need to look at it online or ask for the copy behind the counter they do offer a selection of beer and wine along with soda, water, and milk. Make sure you save room for dessert as they do offer hand scooped ice cream, which is always a great treat. This style of pizza is very large and in charge so I always ask them to cut the slices a little thinner, but I love to watch everyone here in the Midwest hold up the giant slices like we're on the East Coast. This family restaurant never disappoints on nice Sunday afternoons on the patio or running in for a quick bite on a busy day. There are low top tables and high top tables rooms for parties of two and parties of 12. The prices are good and the taste is what keeps you coming back. The space is also fairly accessible for wheelchair users, but if it is busy, you may need assistance finding a proper table for your party so ask the cashier and they'll gladly help you.
