I used to love Sugarfire, but after my last visit I don't think I'll be back. It's probably been 4+ years since my last visit since we moved out of state. We ordered to go. In the past I would eat their brisket with no sauce and it was always sliced very well and tender, so I ordered an 8oz brisket plate with 2 sides. What I received were 4 pretty thick (1/2") pieces of brisket. In the past if I ordered the 8oz I would get about 6 normal sliced pieces. The brisket was pretty dry this time with not much fat. I added some sauce and it was ok, but not what I was expecting at all and I ended up just tossing the last slice. The 2 sides I got were baked beans (very good) and mac & cheese (also good) but the size was pretty small. read more

My wife and I stopped by for dinner. My wife had the smoked turkey with macaroni and cheese and green beans. The turkey was tender and delicious. The macaroni and cheese was extremely creamy and the green bean with the chunks of ham was awesome. I got the Philly cheese brisket, which was unbelievable. The brisket was flavorful the cheese sauce. Excellent with lots of green pepper and onion, grilled and caramelized on a delicious hoagie. I decided my sandwich with the kettle chips, which were OK. We went there last Friday around 6:30 pm. The brisket was tough. The turkey was dry. The men's bathroom was filthy.

While the meats and Excel real sugar sodas (Ski) are nice... The sides still are boring to me. I asked for Coleslaw, but only got corn bread. The Mac & Cheese was over cooked and over cheesy. Owners have put great influence on the quality of smoked meat, but don't really seem to try on the sides. The service was good. However, I still want the Coleslaw I ordered. I can be just a little picky about my barbecue so I don't dine here much but when I do, it's very much enjoyable. Good pricing, good food and a country comfy ambiance make this restaurant one for the books. The service is good, although, a little cold but these days one will encounter that from time to time. It had been awhile since we have visited Sugarfire. As a vegan, I was disappointed to see that the smoked portobello sandwich was no longer in the menu. That was so good. Instead, there is a fried green tomato sandwich. I ordered without the cheese and ranch and fries as my side. My husband (who is not vegan) got the 3 meat platter with baked beans and green beans for sides. He ended up taking some home because it was too much. My fried green tomato sandwich was good. It also had some light creamy coleslaw. I would have preferred more green tomato and less coleslaw. But, a unique sandwich. Fries were good but greasy. Weather go bad, so we decided wait out the storm and split a piece of apple pie. So delicious! Service was good. Ambiance is family friendly. Ribs? Three of the four were great but that end rib was almost crunchy overdone. Brisket? Great! Beer-braised cabbage? Excellent. Cole slaw? Good. I was hoping for turkey breast but they were sold out at 7pm. We got a takeout order this evening and brought it next door to Mackenzie Brewing because what goes better with beer than barbecued meat? I like the self-service sauces, getting one of the Honey Badger and one of the Texas Hot. Both went really well with the brisket, the honey going better with the ribs. The meal was well packed for the journey (about 30 steps down the shopping center) and still quite hot. I'd do this again though I suggest you check the ribs to make sure they're all good. We ordered the Big Meat combo. It had ribs, sausage, brisket, pulled pork and salmon (rather than something else for small upcharge). The meats were good. Ribs and pulled pork best. Brisket was fatty. Sausage okay. Salmon needed cooked another minute or so. Potato salad was cool with lots of dill flavor. Green beans had enough bacon we think we got the bottom of the pot. Wife and I thought we were have a little bit of green beans with our bacon. They were very good, but more green beans to bacon ratio would have been better. We had some Frostie Root Beer which is one of my favorite root beers. I waited a week or more before putting in this review and now don't remember the person's name we spoke with. Brisket is a signature meat at any bbq joint but the 3 meat combo i ordered with the brisket, turkey & pulled pork was a big letdown. The brisket LOOKED very good until i bit into it- total fat! Both nicely sized pieces pure fat! The turkey had 2 very small pieces that lacked flavor and the pulled pork- really dry. I gave this place 2 stars for the 2 sides i had, the cole slaw & beans were excellent and the beer ice cold! I was told this is the place for brisket. The menu definitely had a unique variety of items. You're able to get a sample of all their sauces. The white BBQ was the most unique, and it was the best tasting. The brisket cheesesteak sounded delicious at the time, but consuming it was anything but that. With all the cheese and other ingredients, keeping everything together as a sandwich was near impossible. And you aren't able to taste the brisket with all the additional stuff. I honestly just had a lot of cheese sauce on my hands. And I usually LOVE cheese, but this was a pain in the butt. Think picking up pieces of soggy bread, meat, and veggies eating with messy hands. Picking this was a dud. Even my mac n cheese side wasn't what I expected. It was creamy but didn't have a lot of flavor. The hubs on the other hand ordered the 2 meat combo: brisket and smoked salmon. Though the brisket was good, it wasn't mouth wowing. It was just okay. The smoked salmon was so so. There wasn't a ton of flavor in the salmon. And for the amount of brisket and salmon, it was just sad. He ordered sides from the "Sunday Sides" menu hanging off the big chalk board: cheese burger helper along with baked beans. The cheese burger helper was surprisingly much more tasty and flavorful than my mac n cheese. The baked beans had a ton of flavor in it as well. Me and my family of four visited at 7:30pm on a Friday night. They close at 9pm. While they were not sold out of anything, the vibe was not friendly. This type of ordering can be overwhelming and with no friendly employees working, there was no one to recommend sitting until they called your name, waiting to take the tray even after they call your name because it's not ready yet. We ordered the brisket, pulled pork, beans, fries, loaded tots and mac-n-cheese. The mac needed salt and pepper (my daughter said "how is it that a bbq place doesn't have any seasoning in the mac-n-cheese"). The brisket was dry, not moist and slow smoked like a good bbq joint. This was smoked dry. It did not fall apart and needed a knife to cut. I love bbq, this won't be on my return list. Maybe wait until the guests are leaving to put up chairs and sweep (at 8:17pm). I have been dining at this restaurant occasionally since it opened and have pretty much always enjoyed their food. Last Friday I tried it again and had a really bad experience. My brisket meat was coal black and charred on the outside and very dry inside. Their potato salad had a very bad taste to it. I could not eat most of either one. That prompted a visit the restaurant to see if it was consistent. It was! I went with the brisket and tator tots! I can't resist tator tots! It was t a fluke, the brisket was really good. We did discover that the cornbread can be toasted for you as well, which was amazing. This is the only way that we will order it again in the future. We went to check it all out and see what we would order for the lunch. We went on a Monday evening and it was pretty crowded. The ordering is odd. We had to tell a guy what we wanted but a woman to our left was ringing us up and due to the level of noise, she couldn't hear us and we had to repeat our order to her. The food is served on a tray. There's a piece of paper on it the size of the tray. They pick up a handful of meat and plop it right in the paper. The sides come in little cardboard things. They put more food in them than actually fits and it gets messy. I tried the pulled pork, mac-n-cheese and coleslaw. My husband got the brisket, potato salad, and baked beans. And we got a "smoked" chocolate chip cookie. The pulled pork was okay - probably the best thing either of us got. I like mine better though! The brisket was very fatty. We didn't enjoy any of the sides too much. The potato salad was not good. The coleslaw was okay - my husband liked it and I didn't. The mac-n-cheese was bland. The people at the table behind me wouldn't eat theirs. The baked beans weren't very good and there was absolutely nothing special or different about the cookie. Had lunch here and left both frustrated and disgusted. The process is ridiculous--order, walk over, repeat your order, grab your own drink--and somehow four people walked out $90 lighter. For that kind of money, you'd expect at least a baseline of service and quality. Instead, food was literally slopped into cardboard or dumped straight onto a tray. Worse yet, the food wasn't just cold--it was dangerously cold. This wasn't a case of "not hot enough," this was food that had clearly been sitting out well past the safe temperature range. That's not an oversight, that's a blatant health hazard. I had to send it back, and even then, the follow-up was laughable. After I'd already set my tray aside, I was asked if I wanted new fries--as if that would somehow fix the bigger issue. At $90, this was nothing short of insulting. Poor service, careless presentation, and food safety that borders on negligence. I won't be back, I won't recommend this place to anyone, and I've already filed a complaint with the health department. read more

They make the best smoked turkey here! The brisket is exceptional, and the sausage never disappoints. I also recommend the PBLT sandwich, and the Mac and cheese as well. I love that there are daily specials and new sides depending on the day, even though I almost always get the turkey. The whole feel to the place is just fun. It's not a very quiet place, but you can absolutely have a nice conversation over your platter of delicious smoked turkey. Staff is always very friendly. They don't rush you if you need to ponder what side goes best with that turkey (it's Mac and cheese, but sometimes I like to pretend to agonize over the choices) and will happily offer suggestions if you ask. Sugarfire serves outstanding BBQ. I ordered the 2 Meat Combination with Ribs and brisket, for sides I ordered brisket chili and macaroni and cheese. All aspects of my ordered were outstanding. The meats were both extremely tender and had excellent smoked flavor. The sides were very good, but the brisket chili unique and delicious, there were large chucks of brisket in nearly every bite of the chili. They serve unique fountain sodas, it's self serve so you could sample a few to find the one you like. They have multiple BBQ sauces, some are very unique in flavor. My wife a french dip and me the cheesesteak, First, the staff was really short with us. There was no one in line when we came in, no one behind us waiting. but the staff making food and taking orders were very pushy and not at all friendly. They made no effort to greet us or say hello and kept pushing us to decide so we just ordered the items from the board on the wall that was closest to our heads. (the menu is written in sloppy chalk across 30 feet above your head. I'm not saying we won't be back but we will not come back to this location and even if the food was good. But it wasn't. In fact, it was bad! Actually horrible. Check my reviews, I have almost never said something like that. The meat was hard, dried out, and leathery. Like they were hiding the leftovers under the buckets of what I would describe as bad gas station nacho sauce. It was swimming in it. You could not pick up the sandwich because this cheese sauce was pouring off everywhere. ANd it was nasty too. There were supposed to be peppers and onions like you'd get on a cheesesteak anywhere. But I could find none under all that goop. Ok, but it was a reasonable price, right? No, it was extremely expensive. I don't mind paying for quality but this was not.
