What a great spot to grab breakfast or brunch! My husband and I had so much fun with our server Alecia, when we stopped for a late breakfast. We were able to sit at the countertop in the dining car and watch Tabby prepare meals at the grill. The French Toast special of the day was a Monte Cristo ... 2 slices of French toast, grilled ham and cheese, Dijon mustard and strawberry jam created the most flavorful breakfast sandwich! I enjoyed the loaded tater tots and half order was more than enough to satisfy my appetite. I like that they offered a smaller portion! The little wall plaques with fun sayings above the grill kept us entertained during our visit. It was a perfect ending to our birthday, anniversary, birthday event weekend (BABE WEEK!) What a find this place was! My mom, aunt and I enjoyed breakfast here on Mother's Day when we were visiting Keuka Lake to celebrate. The outside is charming, there is street parking, and the inside will blow you away. They have mugs with advertisements on them and a variety of gluten free items, which filled my heart with so much love for this place. When we visited, they offered both Jamaica Me Crazy coffee, which is one of my favorites, and regular. The coffee was flavorful. I ordered the Shawn, gluten free, which was way too much food, but I wanted a bite of everything. It was gluten free pancakes, eggs, ham, crispy home fries, and gluten free toast. Everything was eggsellent. I ended up taking food home for Cooper and he enjoyed it as well. My mom and aunt had the Uncle Terry and the eggs benedict and they both enjoyed what they ordered. It had been several years since we had been here, but we decided to give it another try this morning. This place is a classic diner. A counter with 10 or so seats, and a few tables all jammed together. Our server gave us menus and coffee. My wife ordered scrambled eggs, toast and a single buckwheat pancake. Tiny, popular diner. Very few tables. I suspect it's popular with the locals because of the low prices. Good, quick service. I enjoyed my egg salad sandwich. Their recipe of homemade egg salad is tasty; lots of celery. Enjoyed the multigrain toast. I was surprised by the size of the sandwich. In most restaurants, the portions are too large for me. Not here; the sandwich was the right size for me, which means it might be too skimpy for some other folks. I saw "peach pie" listed on the black board, and was surprised when the waitress handed us our bill without asking if we wanted dessert. She actually did me a favor; I've been trying to get used to not having sweets after every meal. If I'm in the mood for their egg salad sandwich again, I will order it for takeout instead of dining in. read more

Got a recommendation from our host. He was no wrong, good food and great location. Inside looks like time stopped with space. We came but it was full so we left phone. After waiting outside, watching groups leaving, we were not called. Another group came in and got sat before us. Finally we went back in and got seated. Service and ordering was quick. Family owned little diner. My experience here was fantastic. Everyone was super polite and lets not talk about the food. I wish i had found this place sooner during my vacation to the finger lakes. Everything was absolutely delicious! We were 4 and ordered different things we were all very happy with our food. They brought out a hot sauce called Curlys (i think hahah) that was OMG delicious. My boyfriend and I bought an air bnb for a nice little getaway for a few days and I had looked up the best food places in the area. Came across this cute 1920s trolly car Penn Yan diner and let me tell you, this place lives up to its reviews on Yelp ! The food was absolutely fantastic ! It was made fresh right in front of you ! Hands down the cutest tiny diner I've ever came across so far ! Inside is adorable ! Our waitress was really great and took good care of us ! I'm sorry I didn't get her name but she had dark black hair and I'm guessing she was the owner, not sure but she was super sweet! We will definitely be back to visit this diner in the spring or summer when we come back to the Finger Lakes! "It has been remarked by some that Penn Yan residents' only real passion is for food" - an anonymous damn genius If you have a free morning, day, or weekend, you might decide to take the high road south from Rochester into Ontario County and towards That Which Lies Beyond. Taking a few twists and turns (sometimes known as the "go-south-when-you-can, go-east-when-you-can" algorithm), you'll eventually come out of the beauteous and bountiful farm land and will enter the Village of Penn Yan. At the village's incorporation, half of the populace was from Pennsylvania, and half from New England (i.e., Jankes, or "yankees"). Thus, the village devoted half of its name to the Penns, and half of its name to the Yans. Through the main traffic light and you'll go down a slight hill. Oh, and you'll probably see lots of pickup trucks. Just downhill from the old Masonic hall is a little rail car that has been converted into an eatery. The Penn Yan Diner. NewYorkUpstate.com rated it the best diner in Upstate New York in 2017. Some who come here are regulars. Some who come here are one-timers, or at least they think of themselves as such. But their "one" meal at this quaint, lovely, friendly, and homey (not to mention delicious) establishment will continue to play itself again and again in their minds, making them regulars a la nostalgia. The interior of the diner is comfortable and Hobbit-esque. Some nifty ceramic mugs are for sale at the counter. We were immediately seated and handed menus (the wait staff places orders on nifty-looking iPad-like devices). Dave was tempted by the special: loaded tater tots. "Tell me about the loaded tater tots," he said to our waitress. "I think you'll like them," she replied enthusiastically. Dave was sold. Bo ordered pancakes with real maple syrup. He received sweet cream, which the waitress compared to birthday cake, but he was also given a Birkett Mills Buckwheat pancake in light of his ambivalence when ordering. While we waited, Dave remarked that he liked that the diner painted the tube that was carrying the wires up to the air conditioner. "That's how you know they're the real deal." Also, for you summer lake people, FYI, there was like an air conditioner above each table! Dave also liked the color scheme here: yellow, yellow, yellow, and some green. "Reminds me of Dick Tracy," Bo remarked. "Me too!" said Dave. The food arrived. The sweet cream pancakes were aptly named! Not too sure about the birthday cake analogy, but they sure were sweet. They were almost as sweet, and as delicious, as the "best pancakes [Dave has] ever had" from the B'Ville Diner. The buckwheat pancakes were also delicious, and incredibly dense (it split in half under the force of its own weight when Bo tried to put it in a to-go container (there was a lot of it!)), Bo remarked that eating the buckwheat pancakes was "like eating a piece of Penn Yan!" But, it is clear why the sweet cream pancakes are more popular. The loaded tater tots had eggs, cheese, and bacon atop and amongst. It was super savory - it was a man's man's breakfast - it was, in other words, a Dave breakfast. The thick and rich yolk was the perfect addition to the salted and dense (read: not from your 3rd grade cafeteria) tots. The bacon bits/pieces gave a playful hint of salt and butter and spice. The cheese was mandatory. Bo snuck in a quick bite while Dave's arms churned into the meal like a paddle wheel powers through the Mississippi on a fully-laden casino boat, calm river, moon overhead, guy plucking a banjo at his shack off on the shore. After mere moments, Dave's plate was clean. There was also a piece of toast with vanilla icing on top; we ordered it to share. We are glad to have experimented (and I can't believe I'm about to type this), but it was almost too sweet. Try it! The meal was reasonable. You order at the table but you pay at the counter. And of course, we went on a little stroll through the four corners and down main street afterwards, just to check out the picturesque row buildings. The Penn Yan Diner must not be missed. Add it to your Finger Lakes itinerary! Don't Miss: The pancakes with real maple syrup (either variety). But really, just don't miss this diner! Beats out most diners I have been to without any hesitation. It is just everything I love about small town old school style breakfast place. At 6 3'/6 4' this place is about as tiny as a lord of the rings hobbit house. It was adorable, the staff was young but attentive and prepared the food excellently. although this is a genuinely unique place to eat, and the food is authentically, greasy spoon, diner, food... It's way over priced, and there is an echo when you talk. When my party arrived we were literally match with if you've got kids there they've got to be quiet they can't talk or you'll have to leave. Wow! This is one of those places that really brings out the American in me because I want to start my review with Oh my gosh. No really, like OH MY GOD THE LOADED TATER TOTS LIKE WHAAAAAAAT. There, it's out. No but really like the loaded tater tots you need to get them because it's one of those things you just have to try and you'll be in a food coma but it's so good and it's nothing like anything you've had before so just do it. Not sad we stopped! We drove by and love older diners so we pulled up, had about a 20-30 minute wait and the staff allowed us outside. The coffee is pretty weak, but I still enjoyed it. Didn't care for the orange juice as it had a very artificial, school cafeteria flavor. I ordered the eggs, bacon and rye. Nothing special but I definitely finished my plate. My favorite part of the meal was the biscuits and gravy. The sausage gravy was a little cool and needed a bit of salt and extra pepper to taste (thats what the salt and pepper shakers are for, right?) but then biscuits! Damn! Buttery, layered and dense. Very cute diner..I have always wanted to try it but I was very disappointed. The Omelette was the smallest I have ever had. Added veggies we're free but there was an added charge for meat and cheese. Wheat toast was dry and tasteless.Homefries had to be ordered as a side $3.50 and arrived 5-10 minutes after omelette looking pale and undercooked and with a horrible flavor which waitress said was season salt.. inedible to me Very quiet but service was mediocre. Cute little diner in Penn Yan. The building is so small and has probably 6 tables and a bar. The waitress said they are famous for their pancakes and French toast. That's not really my style, so I ordered the sausage gravy biscuits topped with 2 eggs and a side of home fries. The portion was huge (big enough to share) for 10 bucks. My husband got the bacon and egg sandwich on toast. He liked it, but it didn't come with any sides or anything. They serve breakfast all day, but next time I would like to try their lunch items! read more

This is always been one of my favorite diners. Change of ownership has has brightened up the place with new paint and some new curtains. We used to love going there for buckwheat pancakes that were fluffy and as large as the plate. We went there today with people from out of town and it was a disappointment. The buckwheat pancakes are no longer fluffy and relatively small. For the first time I had to actually use a knife to cut them into bite-size pieces. The Belgian waffles are no longer large and fluffy but seem to come out of a waffle machine or frozen waffles. I hope the new owners will take notice of this review and find a way to serve better food! The peach cobbler was soggy and a disappointment. My wife and I will try it one more time to see if improvements are made. You can do better. read more

Great food. The coffee, a local brand, was phenomenal. Reasonably priced and worth a stop. The service was not super friendly. It also was not rude, it was just... not really engaging service. I am from the south and my family owns a southern style Diner. I look for something similar to get a breakfast fix especially went on vacation. I used Yelp to come across this little diner. I was not disappointed. It's made out of an old train car and has been around for 94 years. Let me repeat that, it's been around for 94 years. If you wonder if it's any good just keep looking at that statement. The breakfast was very tasty and cook to order quickly. The dacor was very homey and warm. The staff was friendly and expeditious.
