I really enjoyed the food here. Went for breakfast. Very casual but cute vibe. Staff was friendly and service was great. We didn't have to wait long for our food or drinks. Will likely be back soon to try more.

We found the Elf in the Oak on Yelp and once we saw the menu, we knew we had to give it a try. The Elf in the Oak is nestled on Rt 414. If you're not actively using a GPS, you may pass it by. It's not a large place by any means, but there's more than enough seating indoors and out. We went on a Friday morning, so there wasn't a wait and we received our food quickly. We both wanted 'the Spicy' and I have to admit, it's one of the best egg sandwiches I've ever had, which is high praise coming from someone who once worked at a popular bagel joint on Long Island. If we lived locally, we'd definitely go back, but I hope if you're looking for a quick casual brunch place to grab a bite, you consider visiting the Elf In The Oak.

The schnitzel sandwich was also very good. The fries, at $8 as a side were not worth it, I would have rather ordered another sandwich than got two sides of fries. The chips were also almost flavorless, except that of 99% fresh oil. The kids grilled cheese was American cheese, and thus, imho, was not very good. One of my kids took a bite and didn't like it either. Ambiance: simple, nice view of the lake. Service: friendly staff. Tl;DR: I'll be back, but won't order sides or the grilled cheese.

Never would I have thought of getting a white mocha but this was so balanced, not too sweet, creamy, and goes perfectly with my waffle, which BY THE WAY can be made GLUTEN FREE ?! When they brought out my food, the server bringing out my food, asked if I would like any water. When she returned with the water, she asked if I would like any avocado since I didn't get ham. Anytime the servers we go to another table with coffee they would swing back around and check to see if I wanted more coffee. It felt like the servers enjoyed their jobs and were not trying to take any shortcuts and were genuinely trying to make it a positive experience. The food was good. Overall, the food wasn't amazing. It was not the best hollandaise sauce I've ever had in my life and the poached eggs felt flat and somewhat small. However, there hashbrowns were probably the best I've ever had. They were very crispy on the outside. Like ASMR crispy. But flaky and buttery on the inside. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated. It was very cold inside on the day that I was there, but it was also very hot outside and so this may have been deliberate. Aesthetically it's very pleasant. The bathroom is very clean and has a really nice changing table in it which is a plus for parents.

She gave us four small cups of water. I went back to ask for a refill of water and a larger cup for the water. She told me those cups were for lattes only. I told her we just spent $60 in here, could I please have a plastic cup of water. She then got combative, raised her voice and yelled. "You are being rude to me. You need to stop." This was done in front of other customers and my children who were frightened by her reaction. I have never had such a rude interaction at a restaurant. It is clear she was having a bad day or was extremely emotional for some reason however, she shouldn't bring that to a place of business. Thankfully, after this interaction, she stormed out of the coffee area and did not return. Another employee had to man the barista station. I would not recommend this place.

The pressed sandwiches we got were pretty slim on fillings and quite soggy. We went during lunch on a Monday but they were out of tons of menu items, having not restocked from the weekend yet. We tried to order one sandwich on gluten free bread and one on ciabatta. They were out of ciabatta so they offered sourdough instead. Then the food comes, and it turns out they didn't have sourdough either. So instead of telling me what they do have and letting me choose, they just made it on rye bread, and offered to remake it before even setting it down. I don't like rye so I did ask for a remake, and I don't understand why they didn't just ask in the first place. Unfortunately, they also made the "gluten free" sandwich on rye bread which was discovered after my gluten-intolerant mom had eaten a bite. The whole experience was a confusing mess. They refunded our sandwiches and we ate somewhere else. My mom got a raspberry smoothie which she said was good and I got an iced coffee which was not good, I left that behind too. It's never a good sign when you somewhere for lunch and coffee and end up needing to go somewhere else for lunch and coffee after! I would maybe come back to try a smoothie here but I would get it to-go and skip all the food. A 1 star experience but adding 1 star because my mom really liked the smoothie, and the staff were accommodating by offering remakes and refunds, remaining polite even though none of us were having a good time

Service was fast and within a few minutes we had our meals. We probably got about half way through eating, while enjoying the sun and fresh air, when the bees started to really swarm us. One or two would have been fine but there were about 10 or 12 and we could not eat in peace, so picked up everything and went inside. Despite the bees, the food was very good. We enjoyed the fact that the place had a good flow of customers and the staff were all very friendly and accommodating. And we loved the menu - hopefully we will eat there again soon!
