I was waiting for someone to get out of an appointment, so opted to grab breakfast here one day. You know the kind of place that your grandparents might go to because they think it's "a good deal"..? That's what the feel is from this cafe... it's somewhere my grandparents would like. It's convenient and inexpensive. I appreciate the casual nature of being able to seat myself, and the initially prompt attention. I'm not going to complain about having a coffee at my table within 2 minutes of sitting down... ... but was it a great overall experience? No. The food is fine. When I originally ordered my 'garbage omelet' (it includes ham, peppers, onions, sausage, cheese, tomatoes, and mushrooms inside it) and rye toast, I was ALSO going to order a side of bacon... but the server decided my order was done after I said "rye" for the toast on the side of my plate. She left the table before I could even get "and could I get a side of bacon?" out. Next thing you know, I have a receipt on my table for breakfast. (As far as the omelet goes, it was "meh"... a plain 'ol middle of the road omelet.) The one time she came to check on me after already leaving the receipt, I actually said "Could I also please get a side of bacon?" ... and guess what? Never got my bacon. The server completely forgot... and never checked on me again. The only thing I can think is that the server didn't want to interrupt me because I was also reading a book at the table (again, waiting for someone to get out of an appointment - and I didn't want to completely drain the battery on my phone), but I have no idea. Either way, she forgot my bacon... and I would have loved a coffee refill at some point too. :-/ TL;DR Looking for cheap food? This is your place. I paid $15.15 for a coffee, sizeable omelet w. rye toast, and tip. If you're looking for anything especially interesting or memorable though? Not so much. I said it above and I'll say it again: it's convenient if you're around Dundee for something (as opposed to driving to Watkins Glen, Geneva, or other surrounding areas) and inexpensive. read more

Solid breakfast--3 stars. Real potatoes for the home fries, and suggest you get the cinnamon raisin bread as your toast. But the STICKY BUNS--those earned you a whole other star, my friends. I understand they are baked fresh, and it shows. Will be back for those as my whole meal (don't judge) with some coffee! read more

This isn't the review I'll be submitting to the Yelpie awards. Maybe it's even the literary equivalent of the flavorless iced tea I sometimes complain about. I'm not able to comment on the main food items since I was already above my caloric quota by mid-afternoon with two more stops on the schedule. But I enjoyed the apple pie and coffee and was delighted to visit such an old-school, smalltown place. Another review complained that there's nothing in Dundee so you should go to Watkins Glen. My ideal upstate trip includes both the bustling touristy spots and the small, quiet villages like Dundee. read more

Well this was a first and probably the last. My kids invited me for dinner, and they wanted to take me here. Having never been here before I figured I would give it a try. The atmosphere is very cozy and inviting. I love how they have kids toys and books, such a cute idea. That being said the food was not worth the price. There was hardly any flavor. I have never had tapioca that was so dry, I think they forgot it's a custard. The brownie needed a gallon of milk and the one pie my kids had tasted spoiled. The spaghetti sauce tasted more like water than tomatoes. The sauerkraut on my Rueben was way too rinsed, and the corn beef tasted rinsed too. This place would do in a pinch but I don't know if I would make a second visit. The service was good I can give them that. read more

We stopped in here for breakfast on a rainy Thursday morning. We were the only customers in the whole place for most of the time. I had eggs with bacon, home fries and toast. It was very good, but the home fries were just potatoes. I am used to them being served with onions and peppers in them at most places (at least in NJ). My husband had the blueberry pancakes which he said were excellent. The waitress was very friendly and attentive and the prices are super cheap. I would definitely recommend this place for a quick breakfast in the area. read more

In the area picking up some supplies, we found this quaint little gem right on the main drag. I will agree with a previous reviewer that it's a very old style diner with decorations of all types from 1940-1970's era. Admit we were a bit concerned after we sat ourselves, which was suggested by a sign, and were not addressed by anyone. We sat for about 8 minutes, but could see only one waitress and one cook who were hustling. A quick acknowledgement of our presence would have eased that concern. When she made her way over, we were greeted with a wonderful smile and genuine apology for her delay to our table. She was very pleasant. Food came out quickly and was very good! Once in awhile you find the hidden gems while traveling and this place is defiantley it! When you're in the finger lakes you need to check this place out. With so many resturants trying to make it go coming through COVID they have skipped on quality and service, not the Classic Cafe! Their food is fabulous. We ate here for dinner first night of our vacation and decided, let's go back there again for breakfast! Big portions, friendly staff, great real turkey and stuffing and mashed potatoes and gravy, no boxed or canned stuff here! Breakfast featured a garbage omelet that was so flavorful with all the ingredients together and not overcooked or watery like some places. Delicious Home Fries and even the toast was perfect! Buttered nicely and flavorful! When is the last time you even were wowed over toast! Do yourself a favor and check this mom and pop resturant out. I visited here with my family on a Saturday afternoon- pretty quiet. We walked in and were ignored by the waitresses and quickly realized we were to seat ourselves. The waitress seemed pretty annoyed when we didn't know what to order right away. While my family enjoyed the food for the most part, I thought it was rather greasy (I guess you should expect that for this kind of diner). Onion rings left a grease puddle on the plate, tuna melt was soggy, but they included massive servings of French fries (after they remembered we had ordered them). Service wasn't great- she brought us our food and then brought the check- that's about it. Didn't have coffee, but there was a container of cream that looked like it had been sitting there all day- I'd suggest asking for it fresh! Also, the tables were not clean (not really dirty, just covered in salt for some reason) and the napkin container was filthy with dust. However, you must consider how cheap everything is (especially for the amount of food). A cheeseburger or sandwich for $5, with fries or chips, isn't all that bad. I'd suggest heading down to Watkins Glen rather than this place, as there isn't much in Dundee. read more

Steve and Norva have years of experience and know how to prepare and serve anyone who comes in. Highly recommend are the classic burger, Fish Fry and Mexican specials on Wed. I can understand that running a food establishment is hard work. I say this at the start because the three times I've eaten here, the lady that serves us (I think she's one of the owners) almost seems to be annoyed that she has to take an order. Seems borderline rude. The coffee is not good coffee. It is weak. We've received dirty utensils, burnt homefries, lukewarm soup and maybe it was a bad day, but not even the pies tasted fresh. It's a shame because it would make a great local place to stop by and have a coffee or a meal on a rainy day, etc. Even if the food is not super great, if the service would be warm and welcoming, one could over look mediocrity. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I walked in and had a lukewarm welcome. I ordered a club sandwich on white bread "to go" and they didn't include any plastic utensils (I also ordered a side of macaroni salad for my husband), napkins or ketchup for the fries (didn't even bother to ask me). The sandwich looked good and the first few bites were really good. I thought it was a pretty tasty turkey club until I looked down and saw discoloration on the crust. It was mold. Yep, the bread was moldy. I looked at another quarter of the sandwich and there was mold on the crust as well! Gross. So on top of mediocre service, the food was inedible. read more
