The Wagner is an institution in Penn Yan. We have been coming here since 1992 and the food and the experience has not changed. Not one little bit, except our favorite server back then seems to be in management now. The food is good, it is not in the Michelin guide but I don't want it to be. It is reliable and quality diner food. They have lunch and now fish fries on certain days but I've only had breakfast. lots of omlette choices pancakes (buttermilk or a Penn Yan special, buckwheat) and breakfast sandwiches. If you go you won't be disappointed. I think it may have been a bar in its previous life ... it's a little dark inside but you can get all the sun you need at the lake. We accidentally dropped into Wagner's when we decided we were hungry after attending the Flower Auction near the Windmill. Boy, am I glad we did! This old-fashioned, no nonsense diner has wonderful breakfast and lunch food. Server was quick, kind, and knew his stuff. The menu is just what you'd expect, with prices that don't slash you. Small town diner, yes please! A local friend recommended coming her for a end of a girls weekend breakfast. We grabbed a table and a server immediately greet us and took our drink order. Sundays they stick to a breakfast menu, all the normal homemade items are on here. I went with 2 eggs over easy, home fries, rye toast and a side of corned hash. Been a long time customer/lover of the Wagner! We used to come every Sunday morning in college, and though we haven't been back in awhile, they maintain their quality of the best diner ever. This diner is a hometown, full of love vibe. We were very glad to pop in this morning, be seated quickly, and receive efficient and friendly service. Our favorite thing to get is the Hungry-man Combo, which fills your every need and fuels you for the day. Something new I tried today was their hot chocolate! Enjoyed an egg salad sandwich on whole wheat toast with crisp ruffled potato chips. My husband enjoyed his tuna salad sandwich with potato salad. Had the Friday fish fry. Excellent! Large portions, cooked perfectly. Moist flakey fish, cooked to crisp perfection. Same for the fries. Homemade Mac n cheese, and coleslaw, all excellent. We always have breakfast here when we are in town. The food is always great and the service is efficient and quick. I ordered the sampler with 1 egg, toast, hashbrowns and 1 pancake/french toast. This place is special because I feel like it's become famous for it being here all these years and serving a wonderful breakfast. I can't appreciate it as much because I'm not from here, and I didn't grow up here and I can't share years worth of memories. It certainly has that sort of old diner type of feel. The inside is a bit dark and dated, and you have those coffee mugs that are always refilled, which is cool. It's a sweet place to visit. This is a hole the wall. It looks like the front of a bowling ally. But great comfort food. Wait staff are all friendly and hard working to make you feel welcomed. Prices are right $$$. Lots of parking for campers. Family orientated. Could use a good cleaning. Floors, especially mens bathroom. Let's just say they get you out the door and on your way. Typical small town breakfast place, quick service, great fresh eggs, grits, toast, etc. I was being good and had the oatmeal and fruit plate and to my surprise the oatmeal didn't really taste like instant oatmeal, possibly because of the brown sugar added :). The prices were cheap also so guaranteed not to bust your wallet for some pancakes, etc. I always have a love for little breakfast dives like this one. In my experience with little towns, places like this always provide a great hearty breakfast and do so with that small town politeness that you just can't find anywhere else. Wagner Motor Inn (strange name for a restaurant I know) is no exception! I'll be back for sure. read more

Stopped here for breakfast based on yelp reviews and friends suggestions. We sat ourselves and were asked if we needed menus? Well yes that would be great thanks. They brought out 2 waters when there were 4 of us, so not sure if we were expected to share but we asked for 2 more and were given them. Coffee was watered down and tasteless. I ordered the western omelet and I mean why not just give me the whole pepper. None of the vegetables were sautéed and huge and the eggs were watery. I ate the toast and nothing else. Same with my husbands omelette. Our server asked if we enjoyed everything and I just laughed inside, yeah it was so good I decided to not eat it. I didn't complain, paid my bill and still left 20% tip since it's not his fault. Anyways we unfortunately won't be back to this establishment. read more

We recently moved to this area and having breakfast out for us is a must. We've tried many places in the area and were very dissapointed in in the other restaurants quality and cooking ability. Once we found Wagner's we were very pleased. Staff is friendly and efficient. Food comes out hot and is always cooked just the way the customer wants it. Soft eggs aren't a problem for them. Burgers rare and their fries are delicious. We often order the hash with poached eggs on top. Eggs are perfectly poached. Someone there knows how to cook. We are now regular customers. Oh aren't you adorable! Was here for breakfast last week and was pleasantly suprised. The interior is very dated yet clean and functional. The service is very fast and pleasant. I LOVE any place I can get breakfast that isnt traditional breakfast - i.e. a BLT. YUM!!! It came with home fries which was a fun addition. Perfectly cooked and delicious. My nephew got a chocolate chip pancake bigger than his head and was in love. All traditional breakfast foods all around the table (how can you really screw up breakfast anyways?) The place Most of the reviews are pre flood so the place has been redone and is MUCH cleaner than before. This place was packed Sunday and we called ahead for reservations due to having a party of 12. They were super nice and had the table ready when we arrived. The waitress was very kind and attentive always there with refills for our coffee and even had flavored creamers! The Food I ordered an omelette which was really good my only complaint was the bacon was not cut up in the omelette something Ive never seen. No big deal just alittle different. It was solid nothing special. I also tried some of my wife's french toast which was pretty good. Normally for this I would give 3 stars but the prices were great one of the best values I have been to. Basically if you are in the area this is a great place for breakfast!!! read more

This is a come in and sit yourself down kinda place. Honestly, there is nothing to brag about here. The food is not great at all. The coffee is not good, kinda on the "weak" side. Have ordered the belgian waffles with strawberries. The strawberries are not fresh but some kind of store bought preserves. The fries have an old oil after-taste. Its decor is outdated. The rug is yucky; the buffet food is like cafeteria food. There is a guy that comes out from the kitchen into the dining area with an apron and t-shirt that are simply disgustingly stained, grimy and filthy. Makes you kinda lose your appetite. Great place to get breakfast in Penn Yan. Guests always request to come back here once they've been once. Sweet potato pancakes are particularly good, as are the home fries! They also have seasonal pumpkin pancakes which are delicious. Your food tends to come out super quickly, and everything is quite inexpensive, especially considering how delicious it is. You'll be full for a lot of the day after the Wagner. I've only been here once for lunch, but that was good too. read more
