We contracted with Penna for a full rewire, panel upgrade, and EV charger install for our 3br2ba single family home in Torrance after initially reaching out to 8 electricians, and had a great experience overall. Todd (owner) was one of the few we brought out who actually listened to our goals and honored our vision rather than proposed either much more elaborate (expensive) or simplified (corner-cutting) projects that we weren't asking for. His quote came in right around where we expected for the scope of work. Carlos, Jesse, and the rest of their crew were great to work with. They respected our home, kept things clean, consistently used drop cloths, even vacuuming here and there to keep any mess at bay. They fished the vast majority of the new wires so well we had almost no holes to patch after all was said and done -- and any that did exist they also did rough patchwork that was easy for me to sand/texture/finish on my own afterward. Surgical precision that we weren't quite expecting but definitely appreciated. The scope of work was pretty large so a few small details temporarily fell through the cracks along the way (as they do), but Carlos checked in with us every morning to make sure he stayed aware of anything that was previously overlooked and/or any thoughts or tweaks we might want to express. His diligence led to us ultimately ending up with exactly what we wanted -- even as folks who had lots of questions and details to iron out along the way. We had a small project in our attic and acquired estimates from three electricians. Penna Electric was not the cheapest but by far the most professional and courteous during the estimate visit on. We signed the estimate proposal on October 14th and received a nice 'Thank You For Choosing Us' email on October 21st from Denise acknowledging receipt and a comment from her that "We will be scheduling your job soon." That was the last communication received until today a month later. During that 4 weeks I sent two emails requesting an update on where we were with scheduling. Then a third email yesterday again requesting an update and commenting that I hadn't heard word one from them in the past month and that if I didn't hear back that I won't contact or bother them again. Received a text today that said, "Unfortunately our free estimates don't get automatically scheduled the same week or same day. Due to shortage of staff and health concerns we cannot schedule electricians. We have to refer customers to YELP at this time. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving." Our project was not urgent and never did I demand to be scheduled quickly. What I asked of them was to let me know where in the scheduling process we were. I am far less annoyed about the lack of scheduling and much more annoyed at the complete ghosting for a month and then a 'thanks but no thanks' text. I don't typically spend much time on YELP, but since they suggested that is where I should go....well here I am. I can't comment on their work, only their communication, or lack thereof. I've had Penna do 2 separate jobs for us over a 6 month period. Once to install some recessed lights, run a new circuit in my garage and some GFCI outlets. Second time to install an EVSE to charge my car. I sent a quote request to Penna Electric via Yelp and received a response to schedule an estimate appointment. I spoke with a lady named Jaime (JAY-Me) for a week later as their next available opening. I was visited by Todd Penna, founder and CEO, which I greatly appreciated as it showed that the ownership is still hands on when dealing with potential customers and is more than willing to get dirty because their name is more than who they are. Todd acknowledged my need to upgrade my service panel and add a sub-panel to the garage, along with the possibility of doing a complete home rewire. Todd and I went over everything and he itemized all that was requested along with detailing what would happen such as space required for his workers, access and the possibility of opening holes in walls. After we finished he said I would receive a proposal via email that is itemized. This allowed me to see what the total cost would be for everything I wanted and pick and choose what I needed due to budget. I called Penna Electric office and spoke with Jaime to set-up a Phase 1 proposal for only the 200 amp service and 100 amp sub-panel. A Penna Electric crew of 2 showed up on the scheduled date in the morning and after some rain shenanigans began work on the outside after installing the sub-panel and running conduit. They did enough to get the old panel out and install the new panel and neatly wire it up so we power after they finish. The same crew came back the next day to wire the sub-panel, stucco what they cut out and patch a cut-out of drywall. They also checked and labeled the panel before cleaning up and finishing for the day. They gave me a call while I was at work to report they finished. I appreciate that they were very respectful to my mother who was there to give them access and deliver final payment. While I do not care about COVID-19 protocols, they did show up wearing mask and being respectful of social distancing. Overall, this was my first time using Penna Electric and it will not be my last. This was the right team to handle my electrical needs. They did our Main Electric Panel, but ended up helping us install new lights and a car charger too! I know they're going to try to chalk this up to a miscommunication as the reason they didn't keep the appointment (which is completely inaccurate), but they made NO effort to reschedule. NONE. This tells me there was no real intention to come out even without a miscommunication. ZERO stars from me. UPDATE IN RESPONSE TO PENNA'S response below: You say you're not sure if I'm addressing the right company (I am), but then go on to acknowledge misleading details of our conversation. The truth is that I set one appointment, and then someone on the team called shortly thereafter to push it to the next day at the same time, which I confirmed. One important, but omitted, detail: when you said that I didn't confirm the date -- again, inaccurate -- I asked for an alternative date, but you offered nothing. You said you didn't have the manpower for the service call. You basically said GOOD LUCK. You didn't show any willingness to reach a decent outcome. You sent me on my way. That tells me that even if the appointment was confirmed, you didn't have the people to fulfill the request. Is that right? You didn't really have an intention to make the service call. In looking at other reviews, this is a common theme. Shame on me for not catching that sooner. You live and learn, I guess. read more

I called Penna Electric to get a quote on running a dedicated circuit to a gate operator that was already operational but running on house juice being shared by a number of outlets and switches. It should've always been on its own circuit, but I took a shortcut five years ago and now I'm rectifying that. So what I needed to do was run this dedicated line from the far corner of the front of the house where the panel is, to the far back corner of the house and splice into the existing line. The line would need to go 57' under the house and 25' in a trench I dug out. I called several places and Penna Electric was one of the lower bids I received over the phone. Todd then came out to do a more thorough review and his knowledge and expertise were well on display. I decided to go with them. The guys that came out were very professional and workmanlike. I showed them what I had discussed w/Todd (there were some wrinkles that I'm not going to mention because it's just too much minutia, but suffice to say they accommodated all of it) and proceeded to do an amazing and very precise job. When I needed to upgrade my panel and rewire my home I asked my friends who they went with since they were very happy with the work in their own home. Frank came out to do an estimate and while we had some miscommunication we were able to clear it up quickly. Ruby was awesome to communicate with. She was very prompt and responsive to my questions and scheduling needs especially when I had to reschedule the job due to unexpected work that needed to be completed first. Carlos and Jesse were great; very efficient and respectful. I appreciated their input and help in deciding on some last minute additions. They rewired the house, moved the panel to the side of the house, added new outlets, installed fixtures and all while keeping everything clean and tidy. While an additional cost came up because they found a hazard that needed to be corrected, Todd and Carlos walked me through everything and gave a discount since it was not accounted for in the original bid. Carlos continued to explain everything to me in great detail so I felt like I knew what was going on during the entire 2 week project. I just moved into a my new home recently and I went in knowing there was some work to be done. Most notably, most of my outlets were out of date and ungrounded, as was indicated by my home inspector. I called Penna Electric in August and got the work done in September. When I called, they were straightforward about how backed up they were, but Todd came over the next day to provide an in-person quote, which not many would do, understandably, due to the pandemic. He was punctual and donned a mask at all times. This common courtesy is not what surprised me though--as he wrapped up his inspection, we had a very detailed and lengthy discussion about what he saw, and how he would tackle each issue. He never talked down and didn't push to sell me anything beyond what was very obviously wrong. This solidified my confidence in choosing Penna. We then set time with Jaime for 3 days to bring my house up-to-date. About a month later, Guillermo and Keith show up right on schedule, and each day they were just as prompt as Todd. They conducted themselves professionally and were very personable. At the end of each day they provided me with updates. In the month between as I became more attuned to the house, I began to think beyond what was originally proposed and wanted to do a bit more, and expressed this to the team. Without a hint of hesitation or grimace, they worked in the additional things I wanted into the current project. They still managed to finish on time and on my budget. As the project completed, they also showed me their work and thoroughly cleaned up after themselves (as well as whoever did the work before them). The Penna team truly went above and beyond my expectations. As I shopped around, they were also among the most affordable options, but only because Todd took the time to assess what I truly needed. I just moved into my new townhouse and my wife hates chandeliers (she's from Japan where earthquakes happen all the time and they don't have anything hanging from the ceiling). I decided I might as well upgrade all my lights to recessed lighting and install smart dimmers to control my lights using Google Home and Amazon Echo. I went on yelp and saw the great reviews for Penna Electric and decided to give them a call for a quote. Todd came out to do an estimate and was very thorough at explaining every detail of the install and what I can expect. He even recommended a brand that he likes and let me tell you, they light up my house like the sun is out even during the evenings! Of course they're dimmable so that's a plus. His team arrived on time and were very careful during the install. They asked for our input before doing anything permanent and were very tidy the whole time. They worked hard all day and the install time took less than I thought (just 1 1/2 days! ) including my vaulted ceilings in the living room!
