There were a series of excellent reviews. I sent hima a message and he got back to me right away. When we spoke, Ian himself walked me through the troubleshooting over the phone. He suggested it could be a bad bulb connection (take it out and clean the contacts) or an issue with the wall switch. Sure enough, it turned out to be our dimmer switch -- it just couldn't hold the charge properly and was causing the constant flickering. What really stands out is that Ian could have easily scheduled a service call and charged me a couple hundred bucks to come out. Instead, he gave me the exact fix for free and saved me the hassle and expense. In a world where so many companies push for paid visits, this level of honesty and helpfulness is rare and genuinely appreciated. I also have nothing but good things to say about the folks working under Ian. They were all easy-going and willing to spend the few extra minutes to answer my questions, so that I understood the problem and the solution. Happy I finally found my go-to electrician!

These guys were one of the few that could handle the concrete work, and they also handle all the permit work as well. Staff worked hard, finished everything quickly and made sure the work site was clean as a whistle after they finished. Everyone was really friendly, from the receptionist on the phone, the staff and the people giving me estimates. It's been more than a year since I got my EV charger installed, and I haven't noticed any problems since then. Price-wise, I feel it was pretty fair especially considering how they made everything so convenient. All in all, they did everything well. I'd have no problems recommending them to others, and will likely go back to them when I need other things addressed in the house.

They said we can submit a claim for reimbursement. Alfred dodged all my husband's atttempts to get an invoice. When I called, it turns out he refused to give me an invoice because he thinks I am going to commit fraud all because I asked him the day that he was here if he is licensed bonded and insured which is a normal question to ask of a contractor. He accused me of trying to commit fraud when he was the one who spent two hours here and couldn't even figure what the problem is all the time saying that he had to leave to buy his mom lunch.

They were communicative but I never knew which channel to reach out to first. They did come out quickly which was appreciated. The first two gentleman that came to replace my fan and fix my ceiling light were not great. They would look at something, and then disappear and call someone and be on the phone with someone while they were looking at the fan or light fixture, almost like they were calling someone and asking them what they should do. Shouldn't they know? They were at my house for HOURS. WAY longer than I think they should have been. They would just look at the light fixture and talk to each other for like 5 minutes, then step out to make a phone call, then come back and start working on it. Over and over and over. They took a brand new fan out of the box and replaced it, but it wobbled like crazy (turns out they just didn't put the fan together really well because the second guys that came back made it much better). When they replaced my dimmer switch and celiing light, it looked AWFUL. Wasn't flush to the ceiling at all. They told me just to patch it, but this clearly needed more than a patch! I couldn't believe they just left it like that. I called and told them I was unhappy with their work, and they offered to come back and fix it. The second guys that came back were in and out so fast. They fixed the light and it looks perfect, just as it should. Clearly the first guys that came out had no idea what they were doing. Disappointed to have had a less than stellar experience, considering how highly reviewed they are. It must depend on what service folks you have come out to actually do the work.

Otherwise, it is a special order. Regardless, they do not carry inventory in store that you can walk out with. This is a showroom. But they do have designs not available in the big box stores. And you can look, touch and feel the movement of the hardware before buying.

UPDATE 9/3/25 1902 Final review after job completion. Since my last review, I have been very transparent about my frustration and disappointment, and even though the work progress and communication took many unexpected turns, I feel at the very least, good credits have to be given when it is due. Pros: -Owner of B&M Electric, Charles Vargas, have been very responsive and accountable. In my book, this is very respectable as it is difficult to find a company with these values nowadays. -Technician Rizal Smith was pleasant, experienced, and informative during the initial assessment and provided thorough evaluation. -They don't take short cuts. The receptacle used was an EV specific charger which decreases the chance of melting. Installation was solid, appropriate outdoor outlet cover was used. The overall apparatus feels well put together and is holding up well without issue thus far. Cons: -Initial contract was for a same day installation, however due to a missing component, the installation took 7 days to complete. After discussion, Charles ended up compensating for the time lost, which is respectable. -Estimate was higher than competitors, but of note, they favored quality materials and took no short cuts. -Fragmented communications. If a response or update was promised to be delivered at a certain time frame, it should be. This is inexcusable. Overall, even though the whole installation process took a week alongside my frustration with poor communication and having to hold their team accountable on a daily basis for updates, I find it very respectable that the owner was responsive, accountable for their faults, and took initiative to compensate for my time lost. Through our conversations, I can tell he takes pride in his company and truly cares about his business. I can't say enough good things about my experience with B & M Electric! Last year, I spotted their truck in the LA area and was impressed by how professional it looked. I decided to check out their website and thought, "Why not give them a shot?" When I reached out, I was connected with Mathew, or Matt as he likes to be called. From our first conversation, he was friendly and took the time to understand exactly what I needed. I had a complicated project on my hands--upgrading my electrical panel, installing a Tesla charger, and fixing some lights and outlets around my home. Matt promised he could handle it all, and he delivered! I won't lie; when I first saw the quote, I was a bit shocked. B&M was able to set up an appointment to have someone come out and provide a quote within a week of me calling them, on a date and time that worked well for me. Carlos O. and Misael D. showed up to our home on time and looking professional, making us feel comfortable about letting them in. They took the time to listen and our areas of concern, including maintenance and add on items, such as outlets, gfi upgrades, and lighting. They priced in the exact range we were expecting for the work we were asking for and explained all the pricing for each line item. We had an open concern after they left. Upon calling B&M they were immediately responsive during business hours, and I received a call from Carlos shortly after clarifying our concerns. Dru is very knowledgeable, professional and personable. I felt fortunate that he was able to come out the next day after I called B & M. He did troubleshooting on a troublesome power outlet that was installed recently by another company. Dru diagnosed and corrected the problem. He also installed a more convenient outlet for our needs. We had other electrical work that needed to be done - replacing and updating lights and outlets, etc. He also made some recommendations based on safety and improved lighting products available these days. He offered us three options, depending on which projects we wanted to pursue today. Dru and Ken did a great job with finishing all our projects in one day. Requested service to accommodate a treadmill to be used in the garage. Adam, the electrician, replaced an old standard outlet which had a loose wire causing the treadmill to trip outlet. Adam clearly explained the situation of this immediate issue highlighting various workarounds and limitations. in addition to this issue, the electrician inspected the circuit box and gave us 3 estimates to upgrade the existing breaker box in the future. Throughout the process he explained step by step in easy to understand language. in the end, I felt I received good value for the work done today and invaluable knowledge on future work to be done. We had some electrical problems in our home (built in the late 1940s). B & M sent an electrician Dru. He really impressed me with his knowledge and thoroughness. He pointed out that parts of the house still had paper insulated wire and found that some outlets were improperly wired; with plugs with grounding outlets did not have proper grounds; but had jumpers between the grounding plug and the neutral wire. This was presumable to pass electrical inspection, as inspectors typically do not open up sockets. We agreed to have substantial work done to fix all the problems. The crew that did the work: Leo, John, Kevin and Christian were professional, friendly, hard working and thorough. they cleaned up after the work was done. This work was not cheap; but, for electrical work the cost was fair. read more

I hired B&M to install a car charger outlet into my garage. I did not plan out my time wisely and had to get the outlet done asap. Although Charles (the estimator) had a full schedule, I was able to be put on a cancellation list where I was able to be seen sooner as he had a meeting down the street from me and was able to stop by. After the estimate was completed, I was able to schedule the following week and they had my car charger and panel upgrade done within two days. They took car of everything from dealing with Edison, the City and keeping a clean work area. They were even able to point me to a great patching and painting company who was also pretty good. We had a puzzling problem- a circuit that should have been providing 110 service was providing 107 and rendering a wine refrigerator unusable. One electrician gave up trying to find the problem. We called B&M, our regular electricians and they tracked down the problem which was caused by several faulty circuit breakers. As a result they also found several more breakers that were worn, in part because we live very close to the sea. They proceeded to replace the faulty breakers and I asked them to install a second panel which they did quickly and efficiently. We cannot complement them enough- they are knowledgeable, efficient, friendly and reasonable. If you need great electricians you should call Carlos Ordonez or Ken Akutagawa at B&M. I needed a 3 meter service replacement at my triplex. I made the call to B&M Electric and had the pleasure of speaking with Jenna. She booked me an initial consultation with technician Matthew B. He arrived promptly for our appointment. Matthew B. was very friendly and knowledgeable. He provided me with a detailed estimate of the work to be performed. I contacted B & M Electric to repair a wall switch and some wiring. Even though the repair was not critical, the company was able to schedule the inspection in about one week. The electrician, Dru, performed a thorough inspection (not only on the wall switch) and suggested some additional work, some of which I approved, but there was no pressure to approve anything. Dru was courteous, professional, and willing to explain everything to me. The job was completed promptly, but later that day I discovered a minor problem, then reported it. After an issue with Edison I experienced a whole host of issues from blown out under cabinet lights to outages in 9 outlets. Dru came for an inspection within a couple hours of my call. The ceiling fan in our living room was not working. B&M Electric sent Carlos Ordonez to our house to address our problem. While here he repaired the remote control to the fan, replaced the fan's light bulbs that were causing the problem, replaced a cracked socket in a kitchen ceiling lamp, and replaced light bulbs in the ceiling fan in our office room. He also did a complete electrical safety assessment of our home. Carlos works in a careful, deliberate, through and professional manner. Charge for visit and then the pricing is astronomical. Google how much a simple part is. These people buy their products from Amazon and the Home Depot then mark up 80%. Buyer beware. They also are really salesy so if a sales pitch is what you want to pay for, go for it. I'd rather give my money to an honest local electrician who wants and needs the work, not a sales company. $375 for an outlet fix is a bit much. Ceiling fan over $500 to install when you are providing the fan?? Yeah no thanks. read more

Sure enough, it turned out to be our dimmer switch -- it just couldn't hold the charge properly and was causing the constant flickering. What really stands out is that Ian could have easily scheduled a service call and charged me a couple hundred bucks to come out. Instead, he gave me the exact fix for free and saved me the hassle and expense.
