The best Italian in Saratoga. Sit at the bar or get a table, either way take in the old school ambiance with great service. Their red sauce is just to die for. Side note, their martinis are really reasonable as well.

A MUST every time I visit Saratoga Racetrack I crave Pennell's. Make Reservations, unless you get lucky like me w/ a seat at the bar, which I prefer. Ol school New York ambiance w/ the wooden bar that you never want to change. Love the bartender & company at the bar. All very hardworking chefs, staff & absolutely wonderful owner, Bruce. To start, we always order the Clams Bianco. Garlicky-butter goodness! The bread to dip into the white wine clam sauce, devine! Veal Parmigiana is the BEST I've ever had! Over penne pasta this time. It's huge so I was excited to eat it the next day & I never take home leftovers & eat them. A+ NY Strip totally melts in your mouth. Cooked to perfection accompanied by buttery mashed potatoes & green beans. Makes me hungry writing this review! Almost forgot the entrees come with a salad & all the dressing are homemade, or at least the ones I've had. The Blue Cheese & Thousand Island are wonderful, but the ladies next to me had a special ranch dressing that I have to try next August when I'm back! Everything I've had here had been A+ & always a great experience. I hope they get the Meomi Pinot Noir back next time, but either way I'll be back!!

It was a privilege to dine at one of the oldest establishments in Saratoga Springs! Friendly waitstaff, great ambiance and wonderful food. We did wait a bit for our main courses, but they were delicious.

We just happened on this amazing restaurant. Has an old Greek....Italian...ambiance. We went early on a Friday night in October and were seated with no wait. Amazing waitress and help staff. Bread and butter tasted so good. Husband had the coaches steak and I had the lobster ravioli special. Both were amazing. Salads were so good with their garlic ranch dressing. Little pricey, but so worth it! We will go again before we leave NY!

    Eggplant. My wife loved it.

Had dinner there tonight. First customer for 2025. The sauce is so tasty it's drinkable. Service - excellent. I had chicken parm and couldn't finish it, and trust me - I can eat! Portions are generous. I highly recommend Pennell's.

Absolutely delicious authentic Italian food. Just ate here last night because I stayed at the hotel down the road. Whenever we asked anyone for recommendations, this was always top of the list. Now, being from Jersey I'm used to eye catching restaurants and decor. You can very easily miss Pennells because the outdoor decor is not eye-grabbing. We still gave it a chance because of all the advice from locals. We made reservations but probably didn't need them, the place has ample seating. Also, tons of parking. Right away we were greeted with delicious toasty bread and an herbed butter spread. So tasty, I also really loved that the servers basically knew we were gonna ask for more bread. The service was really great. Everyone was on top of all the details. We got the famous baked lasagne and chicken piccata. The sauce from the lasagne was great, homemade and a little sweet. I loved it. The chicken piccata was great too. Thick chicken breast cooked perfectly in that lemon caper sauce. The pasta was great too. We kept picking off each other's dishes. This is a great place for a huge Italian dinner. The portions are gigantic. The hospitality is plenty and the food is great.

Unfortunately, the night fell well short of expectations. The evening started with the usual downtown Saratoga parking battle no fault of the restaurant, but worth noting. The free lot was full, it was below zero outside, and by the time we arrived we were already a bit rattled. We were seated promptly with our reservation, which was appreciated, but the dining room was ice cold. Tables are packed extremely close together; close enough that we were essentially part of the couple next to us on what appeared to be a very uncomfortable first date. If you're looking for an intimate or romantic dinner, this is probably not the place. The wine-by-the-glass selection was very limited only one cabernet option and the overall wine list seemed designed to push diners toward very overpriced bottles. Our server was slow to come over and didn't know the specials, which didn't help set the tone. We started with the spicy calamari, which was decent but nothing special about a 6/10. It was a bit chewy, which is disappointing for a restaurant positioning itself as high-end. For entrées, we ordered the salmon and the strip steak. Both were cooked properly, but overwhelmingly salty. If you love salt, this might be your dream meal. For us, it wasn't enjoyable we didn't finish our dishes and discarded the leftovers entirely. Maybe it was an off night for the kitchen, but given the cost and overall experience, we won't be returning. Saratoga has far too many excellent dining options to justify another try. We'd much rather spend our money at 15 Church or Chianti Il Ristorante, where the food and atmosphere have consistently delivered. Disappointing overall, especially for what was meant to be a special night out.

The kale strawberry salad is a fresh and tasty. Definitely an entree size for 1 or shareable for 2 or 3 if you want a salad to start. The octopus entree comes in 2 sizes... appetizer (smaller size) or main (bigger size). I went with the appetizer size since it was late and I knew I would be eating salad and bread and helping my mom with her pasta dish. The octopus was a little "mushy".... not as firm as I prefer. Mom had the pasta that came with eggplant and sausage and a really hard to say name if you are me.... Salsiccia di Peperoncino. It was D-Lish and quite hearty. Instead of dessert, we shared an after dinner drink.... our server / bartender created an Italian Style Old Fashion. Highly Highly recommend. It's not too strong, alcoholy... and it's not overly sweet. It was a nice smooth way to end a meal. When we visit Saratoga again, we will be back!

The menu on line looked intriguing enough with classic Italian dishes and pizza to try. Upon entrance to the restaurant, it was surprising how empty they were despite relatively good Yelp reviews. It was already late (after 8PM in Saratoga Springs is considered late even for the start of the summer season with this being Memorial Day). There were only 2 other tables of patrons and by the time we finished dinner, we were the only ones left. The restaurant was clean looking and appeared to have ample staff between chefs/cooks which you could seen with a large open window to the kitchen and coal fired pizza oven, waitresses and a bartender. We ordered a wedge salad and a Bistro salad to start. Both were absolutely huge and could easily have been shared. Known for there meatballs served in a variety of styles, we ordered the Polpette Di Manzo which was 3 meatballs. The meatballs themselves were rather plain tasting, but the sauce made up for that. A half order of penne a la vodka and a full order of Pasta Primivera were both very good and rather filling for a late night meal. We didn't have room for dessert. One item for management to address is their on-line menu vs. their in restaurant menu which has a difference in pricing of ~$2 per item. Our friendly waitress said that the rain and cooler temps were keeping patrons away this May and of course this evening. Hopefully for Three Vines, the weather improves and they have a wonderful summer season in Saratoga Springs!
