First time at The Galley Bar and Grill and honestly, it hit the spot after a long, hard day of yard work. Located right on the corner of U.S. Route 9 and Malta Ave in Ballston Spa, the outside is pretty low-key. The parking lot was a bit dark, with most of the light coming from the building itself but don't let that fool you. You walk in and you're right at the bar , with plenty of seating barside or table, if that's your vibe. Not into sitting up front? No problem, there's additional seating in the back for a more relaxed feel. Service was a win. Our waiter was courteous, attentive, and accommodating without hovering. Now the food, the Gooouda Burger caught my eye immediately. I ordered it bunless, wrapped in buttery romaine lettuce, topped with crispy bacon and fried onions. Paired it with their straw fries (seriously good) and a cold beer to wash it down. First bite? Exactly what you want. Food to temp, everything was crisp not soggy, the burger was cooked perfectly, even at well done, which is not easy to pull off. I can only speak for the burger, but based on that alone: don't judge this place by its exterior. Give it a shot, you might be pleasantly surprised. A fine day to visit a new restaurant for us. It was time for lunch and after a few minutes of searching Yelp, I found this restaurant. It's nothing fancy, no lavish decorations, but nice and clean with a beach front feeling. The menu was huge, something for everyone! Our server was the bar tender who was courteous and friendly. I decided on trying a hamburger with American cheese and mushrooms, my buddy had a Buffalo chicken sandwich. Both were excellent. The burgers are 1/2 pound! We both agreed that this place was a good find and easily located right off interstate 87 at exit 13S. Prices are reasonable and the food is good! Definitely worth it. read more

The galley is a super cute local bar with sea themed decor. Service was fast and the food came out pretty fast as well. I loved the buffalo wrap and the sweet potato fries. My partner didn't really enjoy his melt, it was lacking cheese and I think it may have been a little too greasy. The coleslaw was phenomenal however. We struggled a bit with parking because there was volleyball going on that night, but overall a good experience. read more

We decided to give the Galley another chance at our happy hour group. We want to like this place. We would like to return there often. We always get treated well there. We were there last Thursday. They were six of us. I can honestly say we had a great evening and everything went perfectly. The food, the service and everything else was great. The burgers were as advertised. They may be some of the best burgers we've had recently. After previously deciding, we would not be back we have done a 180 forward to returning. Tl;dr: Excellent family-style fried seafood with expansive gluten free options and large portions. My sister and I ate here yesterday because it was on Find Me Gluten Free (she has celiac disease), and found out that the entire menu can be made gluten free, with all of the entrees gluten free by default. This was a very welcome surprise, as gluten free options tend to be fairly limited at most restaurants. We ordered the galley sampler to start and chose onion straws, fried pickles, and calamari, and when the owner overheard us debating about calamari vs clam strips he had the cook throw in a few clam strips too. The whole sampler was excellent, the onion straws, calamari, and clam strips in particular were amazing, though the pickles--while quite tasty--could use a thicker batter or thinner slices. For our meals she ordered the captain's platter and I had the fish and chips. All of the seafood was cooked excellently, and batter for the fried food was a well-seasoned crispy corn meal batter that has plenty of flavor to complement the seafood. The French fries were very good shoestring fries, maybe not spectacular but hot, crispy, and salty, as fries should be. The coleslaw was solid as well. But the portions were huge, I had three and a half sizable cod fillets plus a mound of fries, and the platter was just as large. If you get appetizers and drinks the entrees are easily shareable-sized for people with normal stomachs, so be prepared to eat Granted, none of this was some elevated hipster cuisine. This is all hearty traditional family-style seafood that's well seasoned and well-cooked, in a homey environment. If you're looking for a fancy "culinary experience" go elsewhere, but if you're looking for excellent seafood with a ton of options for gluten free folks, you can't miss here. read more

I can't fathom where the great ratings came from. I trusted them and pushed to try it despite strong advice against. Food 1.5 Service 1 Ambiance 2 All wrapped up in train wreck of an experience. As you approach the dive bar entrance, you are smacked with a maggotty trash stench. Upon entering you are sat at the dirty bar or a dirty table. Don't choose the table lest you will be ignored from here on out. You will eventually be offered a dirty menu. No bev list, the server just says- "their all on display" Cans of beer that is, lined up above the bar,and if you order one, that's what you get, a can of beer from the fridge, no glass. Enjoy it now because for the next 60 minutes while you wait for your reheated food to sit and get cold again, you wont be offered another drink. While we waited those 60 min for our food to be reheated ( ie the fries and wings were clearly from a frozen bag) other patrons were "greeted " with shouted suggestions that they go elsewhere because food is taking over an hour. ( we were the ONLY table occupied) This after a lot of loud banging and smashing of glass or plates in the back. The bourbon rub wings were in a word, FOUL. Think cinnamon sugar and mounds salt baked onto a little chicken wing . Inedible. The burger was poor quality chewy overdone meat on a stale plain as toast brioche bun. There was nothing appetizing. It was all cold as well. The drinks, well no taps here. The young solo bartender/host/server/busser/chef? Did not know how to make a common mixed drink. She was clearly given far too much to balance. It is what it is. An understaffed overpriced dive bar not really set up to cook or I suppose reheat what seems like cash and carry bulk food. They have volleyball, (but no chicken in the kitchen), parking is easy. Go there to drink an $8 can of beer if you don't have any at home or you want to meet friends. This is not a 4-5 star restaurant experience. 2 is very generous. The reviews can't be legitimate unless something has gone terribly wrong since the bunch of 5 star reviews were submitted last Fall. read more

I've only been to the gallery bar twice, but each time it was excellent. One time I ordered the fish fry, then I tried the chicken wings which were also excellent. The place has some charisma with the bar setting. I would say the food is very good and the prices are very comparable. The wait staff were friendly and prompt. Unfortunately this will be my last trip to the galley restaurant or should I say bar this was the third time we hav been there that a bunch of drunken loud people were at the bar dropping F bombs yelling and making asses of themselves. I have been wanting to try The Galley since opening as it looks like the classic "Best Burger" type of place and so glad I did. Wife got the Grilled Fish tacos and I got a Mushroom Swiss Burger with fries and boy were they both excellent! Started with a crock of French Onion soup which was also great.
