My father needed a suit for an important event at his work. He had been looking for a tailor for a week or so and he finally looked up this shop and we decided to go in and look around. Let me tell you, this was one of the most amazing experiences I've had in a long time and i wasn't even the one getting the suit. We walked in and immediately Javier Martinez greeted us and asked what we were looking for. My dad said he was looking for a suit and he told us to follow him upstairs to look up there. He took one look at my dad and immediately picked up a blue suit and pant combo and my dad tried it on and then handed him a grey suit. They both fit but they grey had fit just about perfectly. He asked my dad if he had shoes and a collared shirt to wear and my dad already had shoes but needed a shirt. He told my dad to go try on the pants (my dad was skeptical because he didn't even ask his pants size) while he measured his neck and got him a collared dress shirt and asked him what sized shoes he wore and went to go get a pair that would match. Dad came out of the fitting room with the shirt and pants on and javier came over with the shoes to measure the pant legs. He put on the jacket and javier cuffed the pant legs to the right length. I've never seen a suit fit so well so quickly and i was impressed. Javier called a tailor upstairs to make adjustments, she had adjusted the neck and the sleeves and measured and adjusted the legs. Then the tailor left us and javier pinned my dads shirt to fit better on him to be adjusted later as well. I am not kidding when i say this was the fastest shopping for clothes i have ever done. We went in, tried on and then paid in less than 15 minutes. I will now swear by this store and recommend this store to anyone and everyone. What a great old institution that is a must visit if you are in San Antonio. We are headed there from Austin for the guayabera shirts for my husband. He needs longer shirts and they were able to accommodate his fitting challenges beautifully. We will definitely be back. This store is amazing. It has anything a man could want or need for clothing. I visited during Fiesta Texas. It was 7:30 in the morning and Penner's does not open until around 9. I happened to be in the parking lot waiting when Mitchell Penner pulled in. I told him I had somewhere to be at 8 and he took me into the store and helped me select exactly what I needed for my event. This act was very refreshing in the fast paced world we live in. I just went to Penners for the first time and I was thoroughly impressed. I needed a new suit for a wedding and also because I recently lost weight. I was helped by David who quickly determined my size, pulled out 5 different types of suits to consider and also quickly displayed tie and shirt options that would complement each suit. His tie selections were right on the mark. he definitely had a gift for selecting things that went together. Once I decided on a suit he instructed the tailor on how best to alter each part of the suit as well as my shirt. He was extremely knowledgable friendly and above all he wasn't a bit snobby. I came into the shop in just a t-shirt and shorts (and with two little kids in tow) and I know that if I walked into a men's store at the mall It would have been hard to get assistance. We went in for a specific style of shirt - Guyabera - and David, the salesman who greeted us as we came in, said they had a large selection. That's an understatement! Although pricey, the workmanship is spot on - not a crooked seam or hanging thread in any of the shirts we looked at. You can select by price, color, fabric, or design. Penners is a storied men's clothing store that has some fantastic guayberas. These shirts are perfect for the heat, and Penner's has about the best selection in town. There are plenty of places to get these shirts around San Antonio (I'm a local) but very few places that have such high quality shirts, and even fewer that will tailor them to you. They are more expensive ($50 to $80 each) than the tourist locations, but the shirts are custom made for Penner's and the quality is much, much higher. Treat yourself! read more

I was blown away by the customer service they provided!! BEYOND AMAZING! We placed an order and chose expedited shipping since we had a short time frame and knew alterations were going to be needed. Without even knowing our reasons, Penner saw that we chose two day, and took the time to: 1. choose a different shipping provider in order to get it to us in two days instead of three, 2. it cost less for that shipping provider and he credited our account 3. tried calling me to advise me, but I was in a meeting, so when he could not get a hold of me he took the EXTRA step to send me a message advising me. We need more customer service oriented businesses like this. Being of Islander descent we will definitely be recommending and using them again in the future.
