I like to try a place a few times before I review and have been here twice. The food is really bad for the price. Imagine paying 10.99$ for a chicken salad that really doesn't fill you up. Plus if you have to eat gluten free they give you the look you know what I mean lol. The last time we went there for breakfast we actually did get sick. I would avoid this place if possible. A neat little place done up with chrome and neon to resemble a 1950's diner. The service was a little slow and the employees were running ragged but were very nice. It was fun watching the workings guts of a kitchen directly from your booth as the cook does her thing and the servers go to and fro to make the place work. Cute vintage diner look. These folks are working hard! The cook never stopped moving and staff was honestly friendly. Don't usually drink my coffee black but theirs was good without any additions. Gussied up hash browns were just what I wanted but the green chile sauce on the huge breakfast burrito was the best part. read more

Stopped here in the middle of a multi-day road trip. Food is your classic diner food with good portions and lots of grease. Service is friendly but a bit slow (my husband ordered a turkey sandwich and it took them 10 min to tell him they were out of turkey). Stopped for a quick sit down meal. I don't recommend the hot roast beef sandwich. The mashed potatoes were instant potatoes and too runny. The gravy was from an instant mix. It tasted fine, but just not homemade. It was quaint and the service was good enough, the burgers looked good. Probably the breakfasts would have been better. We stopped in on our way to the Wind River Range. It is basically the only place in Rawlins, but they do a pretty good job none-the-less. Breakfast was great, staff was friendly, and the place looked clean! We are on our way from Virginia to California. We stopped for a quick bite to eat at pennies and we are very thankful we did. With four adults and five kids the food came out fast, the service personnel were clean, and friendly, and the facility was clean and well decorated. But best of all was the food. Came in from after traveling. Wanted something good. Waiting 10 minuets before someone even came over to take drink orders. I ordered a Swiss mushroom burger with an extra patty. After tell the cook our orders were the ones on that were done and waiting to be served we finally got our food. While eating 2 other tables came in and left because no one was around to help them. The cook said he only cooks not takes orders. The lady that took our orders said she was not a server and wouldn't help. We never got silverware or napkins. And not even a refill on drinks. Food was cold because it sat forever with no one able to serve it. When trying to pay we had to wait 10 minuets just for an employee to come get the money. Horrible service. read more

We were on a cross country trip and tired of fast food so thought a local diner would be perfect! First impression....floors dirty! Ok, give it a chance I thought. Sat down and looked at the kitchen grill, fryer etc., also dirty. So we decided to order breakfast for dinner, usually a safe choice. Over 30 minutes to get, eggs, bacon and pancakes! Understandable if they were busy; but only one other table occupied. Eggs runny, pancakes flat not fluffy. Only tasty item was the bacon. If I could give this place negative stars I could. If you ever wanted to be in the movie deliverance, eat at this restaurant. The service was beyond bad. The "waitress" saw my group walk in and said out load that she wasn't waiting on that big group. The "hostess" continued to look over at us from the register but didn't do or say anything to help the situation. It took over 20 mins for the bus boy to take our order. Then our meal was served and we were informed that they had run out of silverware. So another 10 minutes went by while we waited for forks and out food got cold. My boyfriend and I stopped by here about a week ago on our road trip and honestly I've never been so disgusted by a restaurant/diner. The staff was friendly but the cook wasn't very clean or mindful to not cross contaminate. Took them about 30-40min to prepare some French toast, hash browns and chicken tenders all which were ok. Wouldn't recommend stopping here honestly. If you don't mind waiting long and people handling your food in such manner this is the place for you! read more

We stopped here in January of this year. The service was great and the food was wonderful. The same young man was both server and cook. I can't say enough about how wonderful he was. We stayed in Rawlins again so we stopped in again last night April 2, 2018. The service was slow and not real friendly. My husband ordered a chili burger and fries, I ordered a ham and cheese omelet with wheat toast. His burger came and was cold and looked like dog food. The chili was big chunks. I said it looked like something someone ate and threw up. The server took it and heated it in the microwave which only made it tough. My omelette was lukewarm. The cheese didn't even melt. The server says d they were training new cook. She didn't even offer to take anything off the bill. We will not go back and would not recommend. read more

Horrible!!! Don't stop. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and Beef Vegtable Soup. The soup tasted and looked like dirty bath water. The Cheese was not melted and I asked to add aTomato on the sandwich. The tomato still had the core in it. There was food all over the floor and the bathrooms were filthy. Dirty place. Food was terrible. My husband had a hamburger that was unseasoned and under cooked. It looks cute from the outside but the food and cleanliness is terrible. Stopped here at 7am for breakfast. We seated ourselves. Staff not really friendly. I ordered a side of hash browns and a cinnamon roll, my husband ordered an omelette. My husbands food was brought out within 15 minutes, quite long considering there were not many others ordering since they were not very busy yet. The waitress then informed me they had no cinnamon rolls and asked if I wanted something else. Instead I just had the side of hash browns, not wishing to wait another 10-15 minutes since it was just a quick stop. Omelette was good, vegetables were a bit undercooked though. Pennys was a nice stop with friendly folks, the food was good, fairly cheap, freshly cooked. Skip the pie as it is not homemade. The food was actually pretty decent, however they were out of turkey, ham and roast beef, so our choices were very limited. 3 of us didn't get our food until the rest of us had finished. Add to all of that the temperature of the restaurant was frigid and the food was cold. I guess if you don't mind waiting a long time for cold food, then this is your place! read more

This was the worst restaurant I have ever had the displeasure to dine at. When an eating establishment doesn't meet health code, you at least expect the food to be good or at the VERY least, the servers to be friendly. Penny's Diner exhibits none of these things. Yes, you may get your meal for free because you're staying at the weird hotel attached to it but SERIOUSLY you'll be doing yourself a favor to eat elsewhere. The only employee I saw wearing gloves was the dishwasher... The entire time I was there I did not see ANY of the other employees even wash their hands. The cook would handle raw meat, then pick up a bun to squirt butter on it. The closest anyone got to trying to clean anything at all was one waitress wiping her hands on a DIRTY DISH TOWEL. WHAT?! I saw the cook was done with my burger so he placed it on a bun, in a basket and let it sit uncovered for FIFTEEN MINUTES while he cooked some [mediocre] french fries to add to the basket. It looks like a true 50's diner but it's just a chain (sadly). I guess they go hand-in-hand with Oak Tree Inn because I've always seen them pared together. The food was pretty good - although I was mystified by my green chile sauce on the huevos rancheros which was more akin to a gravy then sauce. The service was god awful - the girl stood there like a bollweevil on a stump. We had to ask for butter and pancake syrup for our pancakes - shouldn't this come with this automatically? But, as I figured quickly, most of the customers were there for their free comp. breakfast for staying at the Oak Tree and this could have been partially why they didn't give a shit. But, unlike another establishment (*cough* Square Shooters *cough*), at least they gladly honored this. I chalked the waitress up to being clueless, but even worse was the cashier. She didn't even bother to look up or move more then two inches while ringing us up. Don't go here expecting much. read more

Geez I've left alot of reviews today but I saved the worst for last. This place is downright pitiful. The lack of service is appalling- we had to ask for refills, utensils and clean coffee mugs. My coffee came with food bits floating in it and some kind of sauce on the lip-gross! Our server took my mug and told me it would be a couple mins for a fresh batch which was fine except that I didn't get another coffee for about 15 min. My eggs were cooked well, the biscuit gravy was a canned variety, kids seemed to like the chocolate milk ok. Had to get the server to wash us some silverware while our food sat in front of us getting cold. In the meantime, I glanced around the place and went to the bathroom. There was food and condiments splattered under the tables and on the floor. The bathroom was filthy with over-stuffed garbage bin, dirty toilet and dirty sink. Didn't have much of an appetite after that but I'm just glad that we didn't get sick. read more

I was so sick after eating here and so was my whole party (5 of us). I almost threw up and felt ill, etc. for 24hours. Do NOT EAT HERE. I'm sorry to have to do this review. But they need to learn how to be sanitary. Luckily I wasn't my friend who ate the shrimp and has been throwing up all day. I had the salad with grilled chicken and a side of mash with gravy. It's a good little diner. It serves your typical eggs and toast and oatmeal. It's relatively cheap considering the cost of the food around here. It's clean. The wait staff does a good job, though they're not necessarily attentive. It's 24 hours, which is great because all the other restaurants in Rawlins shut down by 9pm. read more

Traveling for work and stopped in for a bite to eat. Got the Philly cheesesteak sandwich and it had to be the smallest I have ever had. If you have ever been to Whitecastle take two and that would be the size of this Philly. The meat did have good flavor of what meet there was on the sandwich and it wasn't fat.
