If you are an EDS patient -- or anyone with a complex, slow-healing injury -- stop scrolling and book with Dr. Kindra McDougall. I am a patient with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and came to her with a left quad tendon tear (where the tendon had actually pulled away from the muscle), bilateral elbow tendinopathy, and a right shoulder supraspinatus incomplete tear. I had already been through prolotherapy and PRP injections -- the supposed gold standard for EDS -- and was still not healing. Dr. McDougall didn't give up on me or accept the plateau as the answer. She researched paired regenerative therapy and brought a peer-reviewed study to our appointment showing statistically significant success rates for shockwave combined with PRP in EDS patients. We built a treatment plan together, and she administered five of my six shockwave sessions herself. The results were confirmed by ultrasound: the tendon reattached to the muscle at two separate points. My PRP specialist was dumbfounded. By the end of my treatment, I had full quad function, meaningfully reduced elbow pain, and I returned to barre classes -- pain-free -- for the first time since my injuries. I am really surprised by the negative reviews for Penrose. I've been going for PT for about 2 months, and all of the staff and therapists have been great. The receptionist is kind, attentive, and puts up with my crazy scheduling needs. My therapists listen and make sure I'm not in pain while doing exercises and make adjustments as needed if I'm not quite ready to tackle something new. They also want to make sure I'm 100% healed, not just feeling a bit better. I highly recommend them. read more

I don't think the patients are the priority any more at Penrose. Been trying to get a massage since April 2022. It is now Nov 2022. Initially the staff massage therapist had covid no problem. Next appointment canceled by therapist. Next appointment canceled because therapist left. Ok no problem. Offered a free 20 minute massage with a potential new therapist who needs to work on getting approved for insurance. Great sounds good. That was June 2022. Never hear back from Penrose. But I find out the end of October the massage therapist got insurance approval in August! I think if patients were a priority I should have been notified immediately rather than not at all. I found out by accident that the massage therapist was insurance approved in August. I'm disappointed in Penrose PT. read more

The front desk staff is extremely rude. I pulled a muscle doing an exercise on my second appointment when the therapist pushed me too far. Overall, my experience at Penrose was disruptive to my recovery from an injury on both mental and physical levels. read more

I gave two stars for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, Penrose Pt has a type of care unlike other clinics. The one on one individual care is a great model. Having the time to talk to your therapist has been a great benefit to me and my progression. However, during an open house event I heard a fellow inquire to the high turn over rate over the last two years. And it's true. They have gone through multiple staff and providers. The owner attributed it to people moving out of state or moving upwards in their career. However from a patient to patient perspective, it's very different. I have overheard the way Jennifer Penrose speaks to her staff- in particular the technicians- and it is very belittling and demeaning at times. The support staff violate HIPPA consistently as patient information is easily heard. Staff gossip like they are in high school- even the physical therapists talk poorly of the clinic. This does not inspire the patients that this is a healthy place to work or be a patient. For that, I give two stars. And no longer wish to financially support a business that does not treat their staff well. read more

I've never been to a place where the front counter receptionist bad talks their patients in front of other waiting patients. WOW

As a VA patient they were of no help getting my Community Care referral extended. They kept cancelling my appointment until I called VA Community Care who set them straight on how to bill, etc. I got several statements where Penrose billed 0.01 for odd things like Screened for the Future, Tobacco Use, Elder Maltreatment Screen and a list of any other assortment they could think of! These people must really be dumb to bill for things that never occurred and obviously cost more to prepare such a statement than it cost the business. Beware- go elsewhere. read more

If you need physical therapy, this is the spot to go! I had two major knee injuries, patellar tendon tear and ACL tear in one knee. The staff was always very professional and I enjoyed my time with them during my recovery. They pushed me to get better and got me on track to reach my goals. It was great to work with multiple PT staff to put their own spin on my recovery. Each was very knowledgeable and had compassion for their patients. They literally have influenced my quality of life and I truly appreciate it. I highly recommend Penrose & Associates Physical Therapy! read more

Jennifer and her team did a great job overall when I was being rehabilitated for a full rupture of my Achilles Tendon. They front office staff is friendly, professional, and great. I am nearly fully recovered, and I am thankful to her and her group. The one single complaint I have is that I now realize I had symptoms of plantar fasciitis, which occurs in about 1/3 of all cases of ruptured tendons due to a lack of sufficient arch support during the recovery period. Many times I mentioned a bruised feeling in my heel to them when they asked how I was doing. I just assumed it was because my muscle tissue was getting used to bearing weight again. Instead this was a typical indicator of plantar fasciitis, and I would have appreciated it if they would have diagnosed it while I was in their care. [Dr. Dujela at Washington Orthopedic diagnosed it in less than 10 seconds when I mentioned it in a follow up.] Fortunately, there was no significant long-term consequence to not being diagnosed earlier, and I would go to Jennifer again if I needed PT in the Olympia area. read more

Jennifer and staff were fantastic, always caring and professional. I had sciatica on both sides and had been in pain for 7 months before going to Penrose. With their help, the majority of the pain has passed and I have been able to be very active with little or no problems. She and the staff were very cognizant of my discomfort and worked to make sure I had exercises to do that did not inflame things while strengthening my core. Jennifer and her team are all great and very educated. I was feeling not very optimistic when I gave them a try, as it was my second round of physical therapy after an unsuccessful bout of PT at another clinic, but quickly found that Penrose PT would be helpful.
