Absolutely the WORST FOOD I've ever eaten. Ordered thru DoorDash. Wonton Soup (large) had 3 tiny wonton and a quart of tasteless broth. Crunchies for soup tasted rancid. Sushi were very small with little sauce. Foreign matter in some of the sushi. Egg rolls were the size of small spring rolls and mustard packets were discolored and out of date. read more

Very disappointing. The food was terrible. The shrimp tempura was disgusting, the shrimp still had the vein in it, which completely ruined the meal. The crab rangoons were also a huge letdown, with barely any cream cheese filling. Definitely not worth the money. read more

Mom, spouse and I had dinner there this evening. Was absolutely delicious! I am sorry to say we stopped going due to the food quality going down hill and the place was getting run down. They have a new looking menu, place looks cleaner, but most of all, the food was delicious. We ordered string beans with pork, shredded crispy beef, and general Tao's chicken. Service was great! We had a young girl, I think the daughter, who was super sweet and nice. On point service and the Mom was very helpful and kept the place in order. We will be back! Eaten here before and has always been a decent local chinese place but I got the Orange Chicken and for some reason it was just really chewy and tough, and like the opposite of Panda Express orange chicken. I ordered dinner today and it was the worst food I've ever receive. First I ordered egg rolls that never came. Second I ordered a dinner called Filet mignon, Hong Kong style. It had 2 pieces of shoe leather meat, not at all Filet Mignon. God only knows what king of meat it was? The rest of the order was no better, a full plate full of un-cooked onions. Nothing else. After I got this I went down to the restaurant for both an explanation and a refund. The Asian guy I spoke to just sent OK, Nothing more. I will never order from them again. My advise is to stay away and spend your money on better food. Just so you know with my order for 2 was $70 through door dash. Never, never again! read more

Chinese food here in town is incredible. We ordered wonton soup and chicken with broccoli with fried rice. $18 with taxes seemed appropriate. So nothing too fancy but given the items the food was delicious. At first I thought the wonton soup was going to not be good given the noodle wrapper but it was loaded with meat and incredibly tasty and so so so hot. Very fresh soup. The crispy noodles that are complimentary for the soup was better than any I've ever had before. I know that seems to meaningless but it was great. The chicken and broccoli had plenty to share between my wife and I and it was delicious. My only knock on the order would be the amount of friend rice we got was maybe enough for one person but not at all to share. Compared to other restaurants it was probably 1/2 as much as what you'd normally get. Staff at the restaurant was very nice and helpful. The restaurant also looks very inviting for seating and so so clean. I ordered carry out but I would definitely come back for lunch or dinner with the family. read more

We ordered food for pickup. Was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. 50 minutes later, we finally got our food. Brought it home, and discovered a long piece of human hair in my dish. Inconsistent. We will have a great order and the next will be terrible. I wish there were better options in town for Chinese. Tonight I ordered pan fried dumplings and they came steamed. The larb appetizer (I shouldn't have attempted Thai, my fault). It was inedible. The whole thing went in the trash, and the lo mein was totally cold. I've been coming to Pen's ever since moving to Purcellville about 3 years ago. The only reason why I've come to Pen's is because it's the least sucky Chinese place in Purcellville. After tonight, I will be making the drive to Leesburg for Chinese food from now on. Tonight, I ordered Szechuan Beef which appeared to be and smelled like dog food, and was so salty it was inedible. I thought about calling the restaurant to inform them of my displeasure, but figured it would be pointless, as the older woman who answers the phone and gives out orders is SO RUDE!!!!! In the past, I've ordered Sweet & Sour chicken (always dry chicken, soggy breading, and tasteless), Hunan Beef (subpar), and Sushi (which has made me sick the three times I've ordered it from Pen's). I've literally never ordered anything that I've enjoyed from Pen's. Just don't. read more

I have eaten at Pen's on a number of occasions and the service in the dining room is always slow. The restaurant is under staffed and the same person waiting on tables is also working the cash register and taking phone orders. I decided to order takeout for my sisters birthday because she had a craving for hot & sour chicken. When I arrived at the restaurant I had to wait to pick up the food because there was no one at the register and my food was on the counter. I finally received the food and drove 20 minutes to my sister's house only to find out that there was no hot & sour chicken in the bag. When I called the restaurant to complain there was no apology and they told me to come back and they would provide the missing chicken dish. When I told them I was too far away to come back they said they would credit my charge card. I was charged $86 with a tip and I never received the promised credit for the chicken. read more

I've been eating here since I was a kid.. The food is good! The order is always right when ordering it by phone. The prices aren't bad. When we eat inside the food arrives quickly, our drinks are refilled quickly, and the staff is always friendly. It's peaceful inside- somewhere you can go without the loud music playing. It's great for small and bigger groups of people. It's the only Chinese restaurant I like! I've tried to eat at others but Pen's will always be my favorite! read more

Been going there for years. The people are friendly, the service is a bit slow. It's a family place. It has both carryout and eat-in. The food is pretty good. Hubby likes the Pepper Steak. I like a bit more variety, but I suppose my favorites are the soups and the Kung Pao. I will sometimes order the PuPu tray for lunch. I always order tea, so I can't tell you about their mixed drinks. At one time I think I had a discount card (not a big discount) someone there gave me, but I don't know where that is, and I don't think I've ever used it. read more

I've lived here for over 20 years and when I first moved here the food was great. Within the past 6 years or so, the quality of food has STEADILY declined. The food always has a burnt taste- especially the beef. The "crab" ragoon is STRAIGHT cream cheese- not even the slightest hint of "crab" (yes I know it's always imitation- but still). ITS CREAM CHEESE. And I know this because I get it every single time HOPING it was just a fluke the last time...nope. Still just cream cheese. Pen's has had a change in ownership. The last time we went in for a dinner with the kids the new owners were bossing around the staff, which was not pleasant to watch while dining. Last night we did take out and we all felt as if the egg rolls were now purchased frozen and deep fried - they had "freezer" taste and literally no seasoning to speak of. The sesame chicken, which is our favorite and standard when we eat there, was ok - but the pork fried rice was bland and the pork felt dried out as you ate it. We've lived in this area for almost 5 years and prior to the change of ownership we could count on the consistency and quality of what we ordered at Pen's.....now I'm not so sure. There are three choices for Chinese in Purcellville and this is the only one that offers sushi. It is also the fanciest of the choices as the other two have no waitstaff and it's basically take out eaten in place. I have eaten at all three establishments and Pen's is now at the bottom of my list. If just for sushi, it is really at the bottom since I would got to Harris Teeter or Giant before ordering it from Pen's again. It was cold, old, and just low quality and this was just a few California rolls. I had the half Peking duck and it was the same - old, cold and just not very good. I won't be back to this place again and that is based solely on the quality of the food. Hot Wok is my #1 and that's where you'll find me. Even if it means eating a table from a takeout container it's better than Pen's. read more

The food tastes like what you would imagine a computer would make after hearing a description of Asian cuisine, only the computers food creation would be probably be better. I once had food poisoning and I would prefer that again before eating at this place ever again. To be fair I only tried their chicken Lo Mein (which seemed to contain neither chicken nor flavor consistent with any other Lo Mein known to man) And The General Tso Chicken which was delicious if you like dry chicken overly battered and drenched in a syrup that smells like wet cat. They brought a glass of water with no lemon. I asked again. The server acted exceedingly put out and brought me a wafer-thin lemon slice ON A PAPER NAPKIN. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that the management is riding the staff to scrimp on everything, including plates and silverware. My grandchildren and daughter live in Lovettsville and this is the closest Chinese restaurant. I've gone to Pen's at their request. The first time I was enthusiastic. The second time I was hopeful. The third time, I didn't eat one bite of anything. AWFUL. I would NEVER order sushi here. The place smells of bad fish when you walk in (the sushi bar is in the front). 'Nuff said. The egg rolls are hard as rocks, which means they sit on the counter in the kitchen all day into the night and when you order egg rolls, they throw them in old grease to heat them up. Just awful. The Loudoun County health department needs to thoroughly check out this place on a SURPRISE basis. What the heck IS it with restaurants in Purcellville? The only decent place I've eaten is 900 Degree Pizza. That's IT. The only other viable choices are chains (McDonald's and Subway [oh dear GAHD no]). read more
