The Metro throughout Washington, DC is extremely easily to navigate. There is no need to rent a vehicle when you are visiting. A vehicle actually is not only a liability but also a determinant due to parking fees and good luck trying to find a parking spot. Washington DC is laid out intentionally so that it is very walkable. And if you actually don't use the Metro you miss out on a tremendous amount this city has to offer. Our nation's capital, what more need I say. Everyone should make the trip here at least once in their lifetime. And taking the metro there's no easier, seamless or quicker way to navigate the city. read more

Easy as pie experience for three days while in town for business at the Pentagon. Metro runs every couple of minutes and wasn't too crowded, I was always about to find a seat, and is extremely fast (like 20 seconds from this stop to the Pentagon). Price is more than fair and easy to use your own personal credit card or the metro card. Great signage and easy-in and out! Deep and dark vibes. Not the cleanest but, that's some of the metro. It's actually pretty easy to navigate. There are some seating options but of course be weary of them. Always keep an eye on your surroundings. The station is pretty close to a lot of different things. Said to him not to follow behind me. A METRO police person leaning against the back wall never moved, remained standing away from the gates doing nothing as these boys ran and jumped laughing and not paying. Nice design but 3 stars for lousy ground transportation set-up and options. Good luck getting a taxi or Uber from here. I got stuck here because, for whatever reason. there were so many Blue line trains today, so many of them and so few of the silver and orange trains. That caused me to got onto the wrong train and ended up here. To catch a train in the opposite direction? Good luck with that. Long wait. To get a Uber? They can never find the pick up spot and the whole area is an industrial wasteland. Convenient for people who work at the Pentagon but terrible for any other purposes. read more

Pentagon City Shopping Center has a Metro station in the area. It also has access to hotels. The best thing about it is the location. A few notable government sites are very close to it. You can find a few places to eat and shop. It serves the Blue and Yellow Lines. It has a few important attractions around the station. This is between the airport and the Pentagon, so there's lots of tourists and government workers. It often is busy but there's more trains at rush hour. The next train isn't too far away so it's easier to wait. It's also attached to a shopping center. There's not that much interesting there. It's mostly chains. The good thing about this station is the quick access here. It has a couple of exits. One will take you outside. This Metro Station gives you access to the blue and yellow lines. It conveniently gives you direct access into the Fashion Centre shopping mall with having to go outside. That's great when the weather outside is bad. If need to get to the east side of Hayes St, you can either take the elevator or the escalator through the doors. When it first open they has only a close Bell Atlantic Phone Plant and a over ground park that no one go to. For building that I don't know anyone work there. 90's they open the first Mall Fashion Center of Pentagon City. I use this every weekend and also some on the weekdays. It big and the restroom not so clean for a Metro station and need of remolding. Long a lot of space for a second entrance. Only three Escalators on each side and only one Elevators on each side with only one elevator going to the street and other in the mall lower level. Track work alway make me mad. A typical Metro stop but a bit messier due to construction on the adjacent Fashion Center shopping mall. The Metro level escalators to the mall are shut down during construction. You either have to wait in line for the tiny little elevator, or go up the Metro escalators and around to the front entrance of the mall on the street level. read more

Bottom Line: A basic metro station on the Blue and Yellow lines convenient to lots of shopping. Most Metro stations are the same - red hexagon tiles on the ground, dim lighting, waffle roof, long escalators and the smell of an electrical train. This station has all of those "features," plus its small size makes it easy and obvious to navigate. There are two exits for this Metro station - one that exits into the food court of Fashion Centre at Pentagon City and one that exits onto South Hayes Street. There is a ton of shopping near this station asides from the ginormous mall. Pentagon Row is close by too as well as many other chain stores. Chain restaurants are plentiful in this area too. I believe this is the closest a Metro station to the Air Force Memorial but it's still about a one mile walk. read more

SUPER easy access to the Fashion Center at Pentagon City (fashion mall). The best part about it that you never have to go outside! Hop off the train, walk up the escalators, pay to exit, make a left, walk up one more escalator - enter the fashion mall. POW! Super easy, right? There's also the option of making a right after paying to exit if you want to hit up Marshalls, Nordstrom Rack, Costco, several restaurants (i.e. Chevy's Fresh Mex), etc... As soon as you make it to the top of the escalator, make a left and you're in! If you're staying at the Ritz-Carlton, this metro stop has an exit that puts you right in front of it! read more

It is a convenient metro to my house. Closest metro to me with the yellow and blue line. I used it most frequently. I like this metro because of its close proximity to the mall, and various shows including Pentagon Row. I don't like that this metro tends to be very dirty and lots of weird people hang outside the entrance by Sleepy's and CVS. That's about the only down side. Otherwise, the track always is functioning with very little delays. read more

Our first day in DC, we were overwhelmed by the Metro rail. I had done some research on the Metro-rail prior to arriving in DC, but when we arrived at Pentagon City, we were a bit confused, and that's when Ms. Edwards steps in.....after a lengthy conversation and her explaining it all, we settled in easily day after day---in fact, 9 days. Daily she would see us and ask where we were going and tell us which line to take. She was by far, the friendliest, the most helpful, always smiling, ( day after day ), individual we encountered. A huge shout out and a BIG THANK YOU, MS EDWARDS. Your help and friendliness were greatly appreciated. As a reminder for anyone traveling via rail, stand on the right hand side if you're leisurely riding the escalator---the left side is for folks walking and trying to get to their next train transfer. Try to avoid the rail during rush hour--you will probably end up standing en route to your destination. Besides, it cost more to ride during rush hour. The blue and yellow lines were the ones we rode frequently---more so, the yellow, it will pretty much get you anywhere. The best thing is to sight see in one area in one day. There is no need to buy a "pass"...you will not need it. The "pass" and daily riding with the Metro card are 2 different things.....overall, we probably spent $15-$20 total on our 9 days traveling via rail and the "pass" is $36, if I remember correctly. read more

I find DC Metro very efficient and hence I always use it to get around, and this station offer two lines I'd use the most. Usually gate agents are helpful, and service seems to be consistent. Only thing I don't like about this station is the escalator sometimes fails, and if you are not paying attention you'd end up in the mall, instead of existing the station to outside world - can be annoying!! read more

It was our first day in DC and we were so happy with the metro system here and this station. It's so easy to understand the system and staff here was so helpful too. I loved how you have to jus scan your card( and not swipe it, as we struggled in NYC ). Escalators were a blessing. As far as Metro stations go, this one is my favorite. First, it is my "home" metro station and I can get to this metro walking/half-running in about 6 minutes (yep, I've timed it since I tend to run late). The proximity to the mall is great for everyone as well as a myriad of surrounding shops, restaurants, etc. It is also great in the winter because you can walk through the mall to stay inside just a little bit longer before facing the icy temps. In this same vain, during the summer it provides a bit of extra A/C before having to go out into the humidity. The blue line and yellow line come through here so it's convenient to head in multiple directions. Yellow comes quite regularly during rush while blue is still less frequent. I see the same people that regularly panhandle and no one is aggressive about it. There's usually a heavy metro police presence during busy times so that is good for any safety concerns. read more

This is my "home" metro station, so I'll state some of the pros and cons: Pros - In a fairly safe area. I've come and gone as early as 6am up 2am and feel safe walking home alone. - Accessible to 2 lines, blue and yellow, making my commute to work super easy. Plus the fact that blue and yellow generally don't have much track maintenance going on, so you can get into DC rather quickly. - Tons of shopping options: Fashion Centre at Pentagon City, Pentagon Row, and Pentagon Centre. Big box stores like CostCo, Best Buy, World Market, Bed Bath & Beyond and the soon-to-be-closed Borders. Discount retailers like DSW, Marshall's, and Nordstrom Rack. - Grocery options: 24-hour Harris Teeter and Costco. - Lots of cabs available near the Ritz-Carlton. - Few bus lines, mainly the 10 or 16-series, which I haven't tried out yet. - Two stops away from Reagan Airport - A Starbucks that seems to be open pretty late - Library is also nearby, as well as parks Cons - The station itself is kind of dark. - The platform seems to be more narrow than other station platforms, so during rush hour, everyone just lines up from from one end to the other. It feels especially claustrophobic if there's single tracking and everyone's waiting 20 minutes for a train. I would not recommend dragging a huge stroller around here. - The sign that tells you when the next train is arriving is waaaaay at the end of the platform, so you should probably rely on the sign by the fare machines before entering the station. - In the evening, the handrail for the exit escalators are super hot. I feel like I'm going to burn my palm if I hold on to them for too long. - Sometimes tour groups congregate at the station, so it feels chaotic. - Occasionally loud, obnoxious teenagers are milling about, but this is typical of most stations. - Not many gourmet food options, but if you like Lebanese Taverna, Noodles & Company, Baja Fresh, California Pizza Kitchen and the like, you'll find something you like. And also, almost all the Asian restaurants in Pentagon Row are owned by the same company. - Sometimes it's hard to hail a cab because the doormen at the Ritz-Carlton seem to get their attention more easily. Improvements - A movie theatre - Target - Gas station at Costco (I don't own a car but isn't that one of the perks of having a Costco membership?) - Bakery/cafe not inside the mall read more

If you live in Alexandria like me, and don't live near a metro, this is a great place to drive to catch it. Parking at the mall is spacious and not too expensive for an evening out, and it's about fifteen minutes to get to Metro Center. The blue and yellow lines run through here, so frequency is pretty good. One star deducted, however, because usually at least one escalator is out at any given time. read more

It's a dirty metro station, but it's convenient to one of the better shopping malls , Costco, Marshall's and Nordstrom Rack. In fact, you don't even have to go outside becuase the metro station, although across the street from the mall, has a tunnel that empties you directly into the mall food court. read more

This is your typical, underground, dark, semi-sketchy Metro station. When you come down the escalator, you kind of think it's much later than it is because all the light (or life) has been sucked out of this place. But besides being dark, it was clean, well as clean as a underground, concrete tunnel can be. The signs were all working and there were workers around in case you have a question.
