Cyndy's Bottom Line: the best in spices! *Located in The Byron building in Falls Church *Small parking lot in rear *A vast array of spices from A to Z. *Excellent customer service. Customer service here is excellent because of Tim! Tim is always engaging, helpful and very knowledgeable about spices. *Highly recommend

Gift box set is the "Peace Mini Gift Box Set". "Rogan Josh" is a specific spice mixture. Check their website.

Run, don't walk. Head to the Falls Church, Virginia Penzey's now! They have multiple special offers currently -- five to be specific. Free mug! "Rogan Josh" spice mixture marked down from $5.95 to $2.00. There's a gift box set marked down similarly. And various voting encouragement/reminder items -- also free. All of the above is in addition to the exceptional number of fresh spices, herbs, mixtures and general wonderfulness that is Penzey's at baseline. Just go into the store and sniff. You will find it difficult to leave. Staff are knowledgeable and exceptionally helpful, without being intrusive, an art form. There is minimal parking on the side of the building. Otherwise there are spaces further back in the parking garage. We can shop inside the store again! For that authentic Penzey's, senses immersion, shopping experience. What a treat. If you cook for friends or family -- everybody benefits. (And so much healthier and less expensive than takeout.) Bonus benefit -- are you politically concerned? This is your place!

Starting to replace all my spices with Penzeys :)

I love this place and I'm so glad I discovered it on Facebook. The spices here are 100000% times better than McCormicks or any spices you would find in a grocery store. I never believed people when they said that store spices aren't as good as spices from specialty spice stores. I'm just sad that I've been missing out my entire life. We came here when Bill was having a promotion to promote immigrants. I walked in and the place smelled so heavenly, all the spices mixed together to create this heavenly aroma. I got the Cayenne Pepper, Rosemary, Oregano the first time I came in. The second time I've been here, i found they had Sichuan pepper corns and we've been looking for this for a while and couldn't find it anywhere else. The employees here were super nice and helpful and always have a smile. They also have bigger bottles of spices that you can open and smell, and also have extra empty spice bottles. I really like buying the spice packs to refill my existing bottles. Highly recommend you come and see this place yourself. Pro tip: check facebook before ordering, see if they are giving out any freebies with $ amount of spent. Sometimes, if you make a big order, it's better to buy online because of freebies. But if they do promo where you spend very little $ but get something for free, it's better to go to the store since you won't have to pay for shipping.

First of all, super COVID-19 friendly, their pick-up option is completely contactless. I came to the store looking to pick out some spices about 20 minutes before closing ( was not aware of the online only format). I immediately ordered my spices online and called in, asking if it was possible to complete my request on the same day (with 15 minutes left). Gayle picked up the phone was super nice, and offered to fill my order on the next 10 minutes. Awesome customer service! Thank you Gayle!

Penzeys has an amazing selection of spices. They have spices for everything. We enjoy their spices for chili and barbecue especially. They have other spice mixtures that are good for grilling. They also have a nice selection of gift boxes with various assortments of spices that make great gifts for friends and family that cook.

Penzey's is more expensive than grocery store spices, but the quality is much higher than the price difference.

This little store on Columbia Pike functions as a German specialty grocer, deli and sandwich counter. Our focus today was the sandwich counter. One important thing to know is there is no seating of any kind. You will be taking your sandwiches to go. (My suggestion: get a few slices of butter kaese at the deli counter and munch on these on the car ride home. Then enjoy your sandwiches in peace at your abode.) They do offer napkins and plastic silverware if needed. The sandwiches are freshly made to order. You take a number and a deli employee will assist you. They have numerous types of bratwurst to choose from. Additionally a number of German cold cuts. We ordered a Nurnberger bratwurst and the Tyrolean hot sandwich. The breads for both were very fresh and the sandwiches tasty. The mustard on the bratwurst was full of good horseradish! The Tyrolean was moist with a good combination of tender meat and sauce. The bread was a nice mild rye - it was a two hander sandwich! We were both full having eaten these delicious sandwiches. The deli employees were all friendly and efficient. Prices were very reasonable. We would definitely return.

Hi everyone, just wanted to leave a review of German Gourmet on Columbia Pike…read more Before I begin, I want to identify what the ingredients are for a classic Reuben. You'll need two slices of seeded or marble rye bread, about six ounces of thinly sliced corned beef or pastrami, two slices of sharp Swiss cheese, roughly a quarter cup of well-drained sauerkraut, and two tablespoons of Russian or Thousand Island dressing. A little butter for toasting the bread and optional spicy brown mustard round it out. That said, what I actually received was the absolute worst Reuben I've ever had in my entire life. They used ham instead of corned beef or pastrami, an insult to the name. The Swiss was bland and low-quality, not sharp at all. There was no mustard, barely any Thousand Island, and I couldn't even detect any sauerkraut. The bread wasn't toasted, and they still charged me $12.50 with tax. If this is what passes for a Reuben at a supposed German delicatessen, save your money and go somewhere that actually knows what they're doing.

There are two variations of their hot sauce: Oh Mercy! & No Mercy! I purchase the No Mercy! and use it to accent items as well as mixing it with Greek yogurt and then using it as a dip with veggies. I have also my No Mercy! / Greek yogurt combination on burgers or other sandwiches as a nice accent (especially if you are not a mayo or mustard fan...). The thing I like about their sauce is it is not just hot (although believe me, it has a serious kick) it also has flavor. I have also tried their fried plantain, quinoa salad, and ghanaian. All have been tasty. I hope to acquire (& try) some of their spicy coconut pumpkin soup. The folks who have been at the booth the times I have visited have all been nice and helpful. The sauce is thick (think spreadable) and inexpensive. The bottles are $7 and last me a season. I have used these as fun gifts for folks who like hot things, granted I know someone who puts hot sauce in his coffee, but other folks have appreciated it as well. In summary, if you are looking for some hot sauce (or know someone who might like it) I recommend giving No Mercy! a try. (Both types are usually available to sample when they have a booth at the CFC Farmers Market.)
