I want to start off that my experience here first started positively- My car unexpectedly died while out on route 1 with no warning ( Power Steering issue, could not speed up while driving, etc) and after waiting 4+ hrs for a night tow I had to leave it in the mall parking lot and come back in the morning to get a tow to a mechanic. My usual mechanic and first choice was Ming's Auto down the street ( they are fantastic and fair BTW) but they were booked until the following week and I had to be out of town that weekend and really needed a quick fix. I called PC Auto after reading a bunch of good reviews here and I think it was the owner that answered- he was courteous and said sure I could tow it to him and he could take a look at it. I get the car there (This was a Friday morning ) and he said he would call me with an estimate. I didn't hear anything as the day got later so I gave a call late afternoon and was told he had my car on the jack and would call me back momentarily. He gave me a quote mind you I have a piece of the door handle missing and also asked if he could replace this which he said he would try) the quote was was fair and also noted I should get the oil change etc , but that he did not want me to spend extra money if I didn't need it... I said to just go ahead and proceed. He said he would have it done by the next day. Great. So Sat morning he had it done pretty fast and I walked over to go pick up the car- happy it was done and I can proceed with my plans that weekend. When I get there, totally different vibe- he hands me the itemized bill, and looking at the total- it was about $100-$150 more than was quoted prior. Mind you the door handle thing was not fixed and he glazed over the fact he would have to get it from Honda and that he could call if I wanted- Like I specifically asked for this to be fixed and that wasn't even included in the total. I got immediately annoyed over the new price and I understand things/issues/parts come up, but really this should have been accounted for and asked before proceeding- this could have been done with a second quick phone call for full transparency. What if i didn't have the extra $? He noted he had to add a few parts and "other things" and annoyed and in a rush I said "Fine, ok"- The overall picture was that I was prepared for it to be expensive and it was under what I initially thought and let it go. Here is where the semi- shady part comes in. He tells me to go into the office to pay which I brought out my debit card. The cc machine is one of those older types and not like an ipad where you see the total. He manually had to enter it in - he gives me the little receipt and I go about my way not thinking twice about it. On the way back I stop at a store and just happened to check my account and noticed I was charged an extra $30 to the total. WHAT. I call him back immediately and ask why the total was different from the bill. I did not like his attitude and he informs me there is a credit card charge for putting it on a card... Excuse me what? Now mind you I understand there may be a fee to use a card- at most maybe $5 but $30???????? I don't think he banked on just because I was a woman and not with a guy or BF and it looked like I seemingly didn't know anything about cars that he was just going to charge me unethically whatever he wanted. I complained on the phone and said that is not right you charged me that and you should have verbally let me know that there is a charge. He says "there are signs on my door that say that...Are you serious??? That is unacceptable. I'm not sure if anyone else had this issue, but this is extremely shady and I am not happy about it. Instead of offering a solution- he actually said "well I can refund it and the charge if you want to go get cash". UNBELIEVABLE. No, I am not going to wait for a hold on my acct while you refund so that I can go out of my way to go to a bank on a Saturday because you want to illegally charge me $30. Every one of my male friends/coworkers has agreed this is a total scam. i said this shouldn't have been charged and the phone call ended with him saying "next time I'll let you know" UM. NO there will not be a next time, I am not commenting about the car work itself as the car seems to work fine and it has been over 2 weeks now, but the customer service is unacceptable. I will not be coming back here again after this experience and ladies, be aware of what you are charged at the mechanics, because they seem to think we don't notice these things. I am tired of this. I do appreciate the work was done within a day, etc, but this is the reason why you need to go to a trusted mechanic that will not overcharge you, take advantage of you and not take ownership for it. As a courtesy the $30 should have been refunded. read more

He was really very nice to me, and put my car up on the lift and messed around with the plastic housing that was dragging on the ground and fixed it up without charging me. UPDATE: The shop has not responded to me and I was able to go to a new mechanic. This mechanic issued a diagnostic inspection on my Altima and was able to determine the cause of the issue within an hour. The issue was a cracked coil in the front right of the vehicle, not brakes or struts. PC Auto Repair does not conduct real evaluations on vehicles, they just guess at what is wrong to get money out of customers. There is no real effort in the way they treat their customers. The issue, that they were tasked with finding TWO TIME, was a serious issue. With the cracked coil rattling around and a pointed end my tire could have been punctured while driving. Because of their lack of care, effort, or basic knowledge of repairing cars I put my girlfriends, my, and our dogs life at risk while driving to NY and Cape Cod. I will be filing a complaint against the better business bureau because a shop that allows for a serious, dangerous issue to go unnoticed and let someone drive away needs to be questioned. read more

My husband had been going to Herb Chambers for repairs for years not because of the quality of service, but because he simply didn't like the hassle of looking for a new service and hates to haggle. After many dollars and substandard repairs, I took the matter into my hands and searched for a better and trustworthy shop. The answer lay right across the street. Our car had a major problem with one of the brakes. My husband, of course, took it to the dealer and was quoted an unreasonably high price. I took it to FJ Auto and was told that Herb Chambers did a poor job last year to replace rotors and brake pads without replacing calipers. Calipers were scraping rotors and burning them as a result. Francisco, the owner, showed me all the old parts and new ones and took me step by step to explain what was to be done in layman's language. He didn't mark up parts and charged next to nothing for labor. What was surprising was that he got the parts and replaced all 4 brakes on the same day (Herb Chambers told us 2 weeks). The very next morning, I had a flat tire, which I unfairly thought was caused during the brake repair. It turned out that someone slashed the tire overnight. He came within 5 minutes to replace it without complaining and didn't charge for it. He got me a new tire the same afternoon. It's so hard to find a trustworthy auto repair shop which doesn't overcharge for service or mark up part prices. I hope my car wouldn't cause any more trouble, but if it did, I know where to go! As stated in my past negative review regarding PC AUTO REPAIR, I did end up winning back my money from small claims in the Brighton District Court as I had mentioned. Honest and Fairly Priced I went to this new repair spot on Cypress Street because I wanted to give them a chance. I was impressed with Paulo - he told me what was going on with the car, what I needed to get fixed right away, and what could wait till another time. I have been to a lot of other places that added things to the bill to drive the price up, so this was really refreshing. I felt like I could trust him. The car was fixed the same day, and I thought the bill was fair. He stayed within his estimate and told me exactly what he did. I would definitely go back. read more

These guys aren't trust worthy. I took my car to this shop because my check engine light is on, the guy look at my car and said I need a new catalytic converter, which would cause 500 bucks. I thought that's not the way to diagnose a car, so I took my car away. But the inspection date is near and I haven't got time to deal with my car, so I give a shot to this shop again, and this time, another mechanic show up and help me to diagnose the car. He lifted up my car and inspected the bottom, and then used a computer to diagnose. After a while he told me it's the O2 sensor, which cause 200 to do the work, I took it. And I went home to wait for the repair. See the first guy quoted me 500, the second guy quoted me 200. What a difference. I am not finished. When I went back to get my car, I was happy to see the check engine light is off, but the airbag light is on. The guy told me he can't d diagnose any code, and told me to drive the car for a week and bring back for a re-check. I did bring the car in after a week, and this time he crawled under the passenger seat and pull out a unit call weight sensor unit. I saw the unit have a deep broken plastic, and a couple scratches on the electronic board, which I though this guy just damage it on purpose, cause I saw he hold a sharp tool when he craw under the seat. Then he quoted me 260 to repair this. He told me to come back on Sat, which I did, but FJ didn't open that day. I was so pissed that I found another shop for a second opinion. Volsar automotive which is ASE certified, told me I did need to replace this unit and quoted me 260. The manager also told me they never saw the unit damage like this before. This airbag light was never on before until FJ touched my car. I will not go there anymore. I would definitely file an complains after this. Just don't go there for your safety. read more
