If you don't know it's there, it's easy to miss. In fact, even if you know it's there, it's hard to tell if it's in business. The narrow storefront entrance is subtle at best, with dark windows and dim lighting. You might hesitate to pull on the door and, upon discovering it is in fact open, can't help but feel like they weren't prepared to open just yet. Being inside is no more inviting than outside. It's incredibly dark and quiet. I'm trying to recall music, but can't honestly say anything was setting a tone for this potentially charming shop. The reason I didn't hesitate to open the door was because of this pair of outdoor seats next to the front door, which I can at best describe as cozy. This cafe has a modest but high-quality RTD case, with fresh sandwiches and quick bites, and their pastries are a work of art, aesthetically speaking. And despite a rather unwelcoming storefront, the staff is warm, patient, and incredibly pleasant. I was excited to try their cold brew coffee, but they don't produce it regularly. The baristas didn't seem to know if and when they'd be carrying it again. A bit odd for a no-frills coffee shop, but I wasn't leaving empty-handed. I took the next best thing and requested an iced coffee, but was confused when I was given an iced Americano. I can deal without the cold brew coffee, settling for a rich, full-bodied iced coffee. Their roast is super earthy and hits just right for a particular coffee lover like me. But we're talking three different brewing methods, creating three entirely different tastes. It was strange that my request wasn't explained to me, as the barista proceeded to make an iced Americano, leaving me both disappointed and frustrated, regardless of whether or not this particular coffee was good. That's not what I asked for. This entire experience left me flummoxed at best. From the visually awkward welcome to the limited coffee-style options, I can only describe my experience as disappointing. I've had their cold brew before, and it was perfection. But to not have iced coffee, especially when I've already been forced to settle, is inexcusable. With all that being said, I'm hopeful and plan on returning. For me, if you have good coffee, the lights, music, and even baristas are complimentary. We will put up with anything for quality. It's the ultimate elixir. However, I expect a bake house and coffee shop to have the bare minimum. The iced Americano was delicious. The shot was perfectly pulled and had the perfect espresso-to-water ratio. But that's neither what I wanted nor what I expected. So, who cares? read more

Walking up to the establishment, I wasn't sure if they were open. I tried opening the door and it was open so I walked in. They were indeed open but it's so dark inside! I ordered a pastry and an iced coffee. I was going to pay in cash but I couldn't see the coins in my wallet well so I just opted for Apple Pay. I ordered a tomato pastry, which was good, but a little bland. I sat outside at their one table, which is a little weird because it's right next to their entrance. I also had something similar to a blueberry tart/croissant. It was so good -- there was a light filling underneath the blueberry topping. Very easy to sit here and chat amongst friends as well. So I stopped in for 'un caffè' and I saw a photograph of a Pistachio Éclair on line so I was aiming to find one of those. I ordered a Cortado; a 1:1 of espresso and warm half & half. It was perfect. I scoured the pastry glass for SOMEthing having to do with Pistachios. Nuttin'. Sold out. So I got a Hazelnut Éclair encrusted in gold (yes... Gold...). I felt like Cardi B for the afternoon, carrying, then consuming my GOLDEN Éclair... The Éclair was 'meh'. It wasn't 'bad', per se. It just wasn't noteworthy. It's a cute spot. I liked it a lot. It was my first time here today, and although they don't offer indoor seating, it's super cute inside. The server was friendly. I ordered a vanilla latte and a pistachio eclair, which ran me a little over $10. I usually don't order coffee out unless it's to die for, and after reading the reviews I was really excited to try this place out. I was disappointed. The latte was nothing special and tasted a bit watered down...the eclair didn't taste fresh and it was incredibly small and overpriced. Did not have a lot of filling and tasted more stale than it did like pistachios. Last Saturday was officially my first time entering this cute bakery to purchase a cake for my boss who came back last week from maternity leave. Thus,I chose the safe bet: Chocolate Coffee Cake. A concoction of chocolate mousse, white chocolate and chocolate crunch inside. The cake is decorated with chocolate Grenache atop and cookies on the side. The attendant packaged it in a brown box with cute PEP sticker. Mixed feelings. The product is great; they make excellent espresso and matcha drinks, and the prices are on the lower end. The pastries are delicious, though almost entirely sweet (there's a cheese pretzel but nothing else savory). Nothing substantial enough to be a meal, just snacks. Somehow they cram room for 14 people to sit inside, on stools, chairs and a loveseat. But there's kind of a funky stale smell in here, there's no restroom or outlets to plug devices, and customer service could be better. Needed a quick pick-me-up in the area and found this spot tucked away on the street. Small interior with a menu to the side and pastries behind glass, as well as one two-seater table out front. Decided on the Iced Latte ($3ish) to go along with an Almond croissant ($3.75). Coffee is surprisingly strong, but not overwhelming in the bitterness. Did not need to add any sugar to the drink as the almond croissant is plenty sweet. General flay texture a creamy almond filling really balanced out the meal. i was craving croissants one day, and decided to give this place a try. they have a wide selection of baked goods, from macarons, to pastries, to cakes! -you can order on their website for pickup at their 4th avenue location. i don't think that they offer delivery. -they accept both cash and card. -there wasn't any outdoor seating set up when i came by last summer, but i'm not sure if they've added any since then. -the staff here are so friendly! the worker was welcoming and gave me suggestions when i was having trouble deciding which flavor i wanted. 6/9/20 -pistachio croissant: i settled on their pistachio croissant, since it seems to be the popular choice here. the texture of the croissant was absolute perfection. the outside was buttery and flakey; the inside was soft and light. the nutty flavor from the pistachio filling was delicious, and was on the subtly sweet side. the only downside of this was that it could've used more pistachio filling, since the inside was really airy. the size of the croissant itself was pretty large, and it costed only a bit more than $3. although it was one of the cheapest croissants that i've ever bought, i was pleasantly surprised by how great its quality was! if it had more filling, then i would've undoubtedly given this at least a 4/5. (3.5/5) overall, this bakery is truly a hidden gem. their prices are very fair compared to the bakeries in manhattan; not to mention, the quality of the food here is just as good. i definitely see myself coming back in the future, and highly recommend that you must try their pistachio croissant! read more

Well, this adorable little den is a ray of sunshine on 3rd Ave in the 90s. A pretty small place, they have 3 tables that can seat up to two people and one bigger table that seats up to four people. The decor of this place gives off a very cozy feel. Everything they have I believe is homemade. I had a latte and apricot croissant. I'm a huge fan of croissants so seeing an apricot one definitely intrigued me. The croissant wasn't super buttery which is fine, the apricot jam/ purée? is a filling inside the croissant. This wasn't too sweet and I did enjoy it, it was pretty flakey though. The latte had a very strong espresso taste which I prefer but everyone prefers their coffee a little different. Finally! An actual cute place in Bay Ridge that is actually good. Coffee is slightly cheaper than Starbucks, but more expensive than the average deli. That being said, every latte I've had from there has been spot on and made with love and care. Haven't had dessert there yet, but I fully intend to in the near future. Their pastries both look appetizing and taste great! - The quiche is tasty and fluffy on the inside but has a nice crust on the outside. - Their chocolate croissant isn't like others that I've had, all their croissants pull apart nice and flaky with an inside that isn't overly buttery. The chocolate twist is similar, and has a good balance of chocolate to pastry. - Their cherry almond croissant is great! Really nice flavor without being overly stuffed and is not too sweet. - The cranberry twist is also good, similar to the chocolate twist there's a good amount of cranberries baked in - The apple is my favorite! The Coop will always be my first love, but now that it's renovation turned into a closure, I am forced to get my caffeine fix from Pep Bakehouse & Coffee Shop. I love the ambiance, it's got a real homey, coffeehouse feel. It's never too crowded when I come through. The jury is out on whether this would be a good place to do work- I can't determine the outlet situation. I really enjoy their latte. It's far cheaper ($3.50) than anywhere else I've been, especially for the same 16oz size (usually upwards of $4.25). I like that the espresso isn't too bitter and that the beans aren't infused with the hare of a rabbit, five cocoa beans harvested from the exotic Gowanus Canal, and an imported fruit that I can't pronounce. The croissants and other baked goods in the pastry case look divine, but since I usually stop by after the gym, I restrain myself. *sad face emoji* Then there are other times... I kid myself into thinking that the cookies will taste different every time I eat them, but no, they're still the same tasteless cardboard I had the previous time. This might be because they're left out on shelves separate from the other baked goods, I'm not sure. I've had the regular chocolate cookies and the chocolate drop cookies, they're both pretty tasteless. But at 75 cents each, I'm alright with eating cardboard. read more

Love their croissants!!! If you are looking for the perfect pastry with a coffee or cappuccino- this is the place. We've been coming here for a few months and every time has been great. Their almond pastry is amaziiing, as well as the apricot, hazelnut, and chocolate... those are my go to. There are also a tooon of cakes and cookies, but the croissants reminded me of Europe so I've been sticking with them. The ambiance is also very quaint and super cute. I love the decor and the staff is very friendly. It is a little hidden gem and a great spot before taking a stroll on shore road. By far my top favorite croissant. Very cute little coffee shop, I would say best pastries in this area. If you enjoy a variety of croissants you are sure to be pleased with choices here - hazelnut and almond are one of the best. Excellent macaroons (many flavors to choose from) and tasty made from scratch cookies (some great gluten-free options too), and even some fancy pastry desserts. Always enjoy their coffee too! Really the only draw-back (and this might be minor but takes away from the experience) is that every time we order the quiche it comes out ice-cold even after being microwaved twice. I hate sending it back every time to be warmed up, especially since it never warms all the way through anyway, but it's just not satisfying biting into an ice-cold ham or cheese quiche. Having said that, the food is still delicious and the atmosphere is very cozy, so definitely give it a shot! read more
