Went today because my tire has a slow leak, and the tires are under warranty. Showed up without an appointment, was immediately met with attitude from a guy named Happy; he said I needed an appointment and couldn't see my car today. Understood, went home and made an appointment for today because they had an open slot online. Went back with a 6PM appointment and Happy still said they couldn't see my car because he had already told me earlier he wasn't looking at my car so it just wasn't happening today. His unprofessionalism and condescending attitude are a disgrace. I don't know if they were short staffed or why exactly they couldn't see me today but this is ridiculous for a business to conduct themselves like this. I should've known better than to go back to this location. I needed a quick and simple oil change. When I left I noticed something red peeking out under the hood of my car (I could see it from the windshield). It was my battery cover!! Completely unattached. Beware that they do complimentary inspections on your car without telling you. They removed my battery cover and tested my battery as part of some complimentary work up, when I came in for an oil change! They never bothered putting the battery cover back on. I've had multiple bad experiences at the Pep Boys on Richmond Highway. Every time I come in for my lifetime alignment (which I purchased at this location), they refuse to take me in without asking for the original receipt -- even though it should already be in their system. The staff doesn't seem willing to help or even try to look it up. It's always a hassle here. When I go to the Pep Boys in Woodbridge, they take care of me quickly with no issues at all. Customer service at desk isn't great. I've been here 4-5 times now to fix numerous things on my over a decade-old Elantra, and I've never walked into this place without having to wait for the 1 person working the desk to get off the phone or finish up paperwork. Usually the person is also disgruntled and likely just overworked so I suspect this place is just understaffed. Anyway I called this morning to see if they could fit me in and the guy (store manager I think) told me they might be able to fit me in between appointments to get my a/c issue at least diagnosed. Told me to get there within an hour so I left my house immediately. I waited for him to finish multiple phone calls and look through papers for 15 minutes. He was more interested in answering the phones than he was responding to the customers in line. He took my info finally and it took about an hour and 15 minutes for them to do an a/c diagnostic (the mechanic found me to talk to me). Then I had to wait in line again to check out... The whole time I was there, I had to wait for the desk guy to answer about 6 calls while I stood there waiting. ALL THAT SAID-- the mechanics here are fantastic. They get to the point, tell you exactly what's happening without wasting your time. This time, he let me know that the dye would take some time to move through the system so it'd be better for me to come back in a week than to just sit here and wait the whole day. He refilled the coolant or whatever and said it'd probably work fine until then. As a systems engineer, here's my free consult, Pepco: maybe train the people at the checkout counter to answer the phone about scheduling an appointment so that in-person customers don't need to wait for the customer service rep to answer phones. read more

I brought my Nissan in here last Friday to get new tires, along with front-end wheel alignment. A friend of mine from work recommended this service station, and he said that they provided great service for the brakes on his Honda. I came here late on Friday afternoon, and even though there were a few customers in line in front of me, I was helped right away by a Service person. Since they already had a backlog of cars in front of me, they promised to have all of the work completed by today Monday. I showed-up right at about 1:30pm and my car was ready for me. I paid the rest of my bill, and took the car out for a ride on the highway in front of the store. It seemed like the alignment was slightly off, because the car still veered off to the left, whenever I let go of the steering wheel. I came back and my car was immediately brought back into the service bay. It took the mechanics just 15 minutes to make a slight adjustment. Now when I drive, it moves perfectly straight. They said if there were any future issues, I could return at any time without any additional charge. I feel that I received great service from here, and for all of the services that I received, it was a good value. read more

I came here early Saturday morning (when they opened). I realized I had a flat and came right in when they opened since I had no appointment and it was the weekend. The man at the desk didn't even look up when I explained I had a flat, and said "I won't be able to even touch your car till later in the week". Went online two days eRlier and made an appointment for 830 am so that I could be one of the first ones in. I arrived at 815 for a battery replacement and my car was not pulled into their bay until 10am, with just one person in front of me I don't know why it too almost two hours to pull my car into the shop. Thw waiting room was spacious, but without any heat what so ever, it was colder there then outside, I had too keep walking around to stay somewhat warm. For a place they prides itself on working quickly, it took almost half a day for a battery replacement. I can't see myself going back there again. Trash and low class service managers and service. Brought my car in for NEW tires and wheel balance and Mount and alignment check. They mounted tires improperly by not aligning the high points of the tires (red tire dots) with the wheel air stems and did not perform any of the other services paid for (balance and alignment/courtesy check). I scheduled ANOTHER appointment to bring it back after speaking to the service manager lady. After bringing it in for schedule appointment, she told me "we can look and diagnose but can't fix today." I got pretty irritated and told her i do not need it "diagnosed" I need the improper Mount and services i PAID for actually corrected from the first time. She was low class and could not care less as she spoke on her airpods to someone in her ear. She did not even know that the tire dots were supposed to align with the air stems as I had to break it down for her and explain. She's the SERVICE MANAGER and doesn't know basic tire mounting. She finally relented and had someone do it. After waiting 3 hours and explaining to the service tech exactly what was needed, he did it properly. Only because I broke it down simple that the old wheel weights were still on, the wheel was vibrating terribly over 55 and the tire high spots where not aligned with the air stems. read more

I had a broken heater and they tried to SCAM me out of $700 when I went to a mom and pop shop and had a 5 star service and they took my business and fixed my "so called broken heater" for $175. I wish I had reviewed the Yelp prior to setting an appointment for an alignment. They deserve one star. My appointment was for 9am on Friday. I thought I could wait and they'd take care of it. No. Drop off service only as I was repeatedly told that they only have one bay available for alignments. Ok. My car was ready at 2:15pm. I was a bit annoyed as it took them so long and didn't look at all the paperwork on the alignment prior to leaving. When I got home, I noticed that the rear tires were still misaligned on the computer-generated results. I took it back on Monday. The rep behind the counter said they'd recheck it. I asked when is the best time to drop it off. He said to bring it by on Wed, at 9AM, which was today. I was there promptly at 9AM and he said (again) they only have one bay yada yada yada. I said ok and to please do it asap as I had a meeting in the afternoon. I never got a call. I went to the shop at 5:30 knowing that they close at 6pm. When I arrived, the rep (same rep throughout my experiences here) said they had it back now working on it. At 6:10pm, the rep said that they couldn't fix it and suggested I take it to Pep Boys in Annandale or I could get a refund. I chose a refund. When I looked at the latest computer-generated alignment results, the alignment on the back wheels was even worse. Okay -- Lesson learned. I will never take my car to Pep Boys again. I'm totally annoyed that they held my car for almost 2 solid days -- setting my expectations (because i had a 9AM "appointment") that I'd get my car within an hour or so of this time. The fact that they couldn't do the alignment properly or offer an explanation as to why they couldn't is unbelievable. I agree with other recent comments....complete waste of time! read more

One of the guys working was able to explain why, showed me how to check my tire pressure, and put air in my tires going forward. I'm not at all car savvy and was prepared to buy 4 new tires. Absolutely horrific. Such business should not exist in the USA. I got four new tires Saturday and the TPMS (tire pressure) light was on. I went back immediately and was told the technician will be there after two days. My brand new tire was flat in less than 48 hours! I asked several times about the estimated time because I had an event later that afternoon. Was told that my car would be finished in 2 hours max. I returned 3 hours later to a guy standing at the register with a brake in his hand. He tells me that they didn't have a part etc etc and that they werent sure when the car would be finished. I was in a hit and run accident driving down from Massachusetts to Virginia. It was super scary and the next morning in Alexandria, I went to Pep Boys just to make sure the car was safe and my alignment was ok. Chez and Damon took my car in right away, checked it out (it was fine) and even went the extra mile to screw in the bumper so it wouldn't fall off. This used to be a decent place to get minor maintenance performed, tires, and items for your car. I was greatly disappointed to see it was moving over to be a tire and repair shop only. I was even more disappointed to have made an appointment for tire repair and there was NO mechanic on-site and there was no idea when the mechanic may arrive. I get it things happen but if this place is going to be a tire and repair shop it should probably have employees available to perform those tasks. If they are going to make appointments they should probably honor those too. The final thing is the waiting area furniture looked like it came from the dumpster. It was all broken, worn and torn. By looking at Yelp, it seems like customer service here has gone down the tubes in recent times. On my daughter's way home from college, she found out she has a brake light out. She went up to Pep Boys in Alexandria on her own today to get the bulb and see if someone could help her. I sent her there because I've had work on her car done there and gotten auto parts there and, until now, had good experiences. I work at Ft. Belvoir and have referred people to the shop, too. Not anymore. She's 20 and doesn't know diddly about cars so this was her first experience trying to get things on her car fixed on her own. She called and text and said the employee "helping" her was extremely rude. She told me that he was wearing a name tag that said "John (training)" on it. She explained to him that she needed a bulb because her right brake light was out. He asked her if it was a 4 cylinder. She had no clue but said she thinks so. He "could" have helped by looking up the VIN and finding out to be sure. But when she said she didn't know, he was condescending to her and said "You don't knooooow?" in a "why are you an idiot" tone. He then said he couldn't help her put the light in. It literally takes 5-10 minutes. So, she went to the Service Desk. She said the lady working the desk wasn't "rude" but she barely made eye contact and said it's $9.95 if the service department does it but it's free if she can get someone in the main store to help her (which I've done in the past). She went back to rude John and asked him if there was someone else who could help her. His response was rude and curt and his favorite word, "no." She was treated like she was bothering them by bringing them business. We just spent $60 in there just last week buying seat and steering wheel covers. I've Googled how to do the light bulb myself. I have a bad shoulder, but as long as I can get the assembly out, I can do it. After past good experiences, I am shocked and disappointed in how my daughter was treated. I won't be making anymore referrals and don't know that I'll ever return as a patron. There are plenty of other places that know what customer service means. If John is in "training," you're training program is severely lacking. And if he's still in a probationary period, I'd think twice about keeping him on your team; he's guaranteed to cost you more business losses. I've already emailed the email address I saw in other Yelp reviews. Waiting to see if I get a response and, if so, if it will just be some kind of canned response letter. Disgusting service. Came to replace battery that was still "under the warranty", called them first to see if they will replace it and will accept warranty. Of course they said yes. When came in, they said no, that they cannot combine online price and warranty. Nowhere it says that. They could not show me any policy regarding that. Later on I am realizing that from the first time they've installed in my car wrong battery, which now faild, and I guess if it would be wright one, it wouldn't. Ugh well what do I know. Then I called corporate, they said it is okay, come in. Of course same thing happened again. Overall I have been there 3 times and every time its another excuse. This a horrible place! We went to have our oil changed and on the way home, I smelled a very strong smell. We checked and they left the engine cap off! So the oil was spilling over while the car was driven or even turned on. We went back there to complain and inform them of what happened and the associate was giving an attitude. Had to get some tires replaced so I scheduled an appointment for 1pm here. The store itself was easy enough to locate and parking wasn't too bad. That being said, two major complaints: I had an appointment at 1pm they didn't even take the car back until 2pm. 2 hours to replace two tires is a little ridiculous. Second, the customer bathrooms were filthy and in the TWO hours I spent here there not a single attempt was made to clean it. Service was ok, overall 2 and a half stars. THIS PLACE WAS A COMPLETE WAIST OF TIME! I previously made an early morning APPOINTMENT. So I left work and planned to go back. My engine light was on, I knew I needed a tune-up and asked for a tune-up. The guy at the front desk kept telling me they have to charge an $100.00 fee to check why my engine light was on. I agreed to just get the process started. I sat there for almost 3 hours and watched other mechanics take other cars back and other individuals leave out with their cars. I went up to the front desk and asked the guy when would someone start on my car he states "yours is going back now" I wait for about 30 more minutes until I was the last one left waiting. I look to see my car still sitting in the same place as before. I asked the guy at the front desk again when would someone start on my car. Once again he says "yours is going back now". Until I see him attempt to take my car back on his own. At that point, I explained to him I had an appointment and asked for my key back. He had absolutely no excuse. The very next day, I went to a reputable shop for a TUNE UP and I'm so glad I did. I went there to have tires put on my truck and when I picked up my truck, before I got my keys back I noticed that all four of my rims were scratched. I talked to the cashier who said I'd have to file a claim and that the manager would have to see the truck the next day because he wasnt availiable then. What a nightmare. I'm still waiting to hear the results of my claim which is a joke. The scratches were all in the same placement on the rim....all four rims. Clear coat flakes were still falling off, and they still acted like they weren't sure it happened there. I'm disgusted and would highly recomend d going somewhere else for any work. read more
