This is the worst place I have ever visited for auto repair. The store manager Jim Ajar in fact threw my keys out the store and to my comment that he doesn't seem to care about his customers he replied 'I don't care'!! I will stay away from this store at any cost. Here is what happened. they made repairs to my car with ball bearings and tie rods. When I picked up the car the car was making a grinding noise and all four lights ABS, SLIP, AWD and VDX came up. I called them and I took my car back for inspection. While at the store I asked the Store manager Jim Ajar what were the parts that they changed and what work they performed. To my astonishment he replied he didn't know, so I asked him to check their system for my invoice. He said he will not check. I said then he needs to provide me with his supervisor's phone number. At this point he grabbed my keys and through them out of the store and refuse to check the car. I called customer relations and then I went back and asked him again to check the car, while I had opened a case against him with Pepboys. He checked the car and claimed that the issues were unrelated with his work. When I asked to see the assessment he tried to extort 89.99 dollars for printing the assessment he had performed as part of validating their work. I refused to pay and he said that he will write a summary but it will take 45 minutes!! I accepted but while I was waiting he came back to me and said that he will not provide me with anything!! He said his Area Director by the name Anthony Montani had instructed him not to provide any documentation to me, and if I wanted anything else I will have to pay. Meanwhile Anthony Montani who is the regional sales manager was supposed to call me back after I filed a complaint about the store and the store manager. He never did. These two individuals don't care about the Pepboys customers or the Pepboys reputation, how unfortunate. read more

***Scam Alert*** Unless you know a little about cars do not trust this store. I had an check engine light came on and went there to get it checked out, my code reader would not work. I just had some work done on the exhaust and assumed/hoped it was an O2 sensor. Pep Boys tried reading it but couldn't on first attempt but when he tried a different reader it showed a P0440 code which is a Evaporator System Error. They told me they could do more testing for a fee. I then took it back to where I had the exhaust work done and they figured out that the reason the codes could not be read by ANY reader was a blown fuse. The code came back as a P0141 which is a O2 sensor on the exhaust and agreed to replace it at no charge. FYI, my code reader does work now since the fuse was replaced. Please be very careful about advertised and/or price given on phone. When you go there price changes dramatically. I was quoted $69.99 for oil change on phone and when I was done with service it went up to $79.99. Store website also showed $69.99 price but store clerk denied giving that price by saying it is just to lure more people in for business. He can not honor that price. I felt very put off by the customer service of this place. i have a 3-hour window lunch time. I called for tires for my Saturn. I received the run around treatment, as Rich did not have them in stock. He wasn't able to obtain them until it was too late. The shop had no one in there at the time. I had driven by after my call. Really-I shouldn't have been put off like that. Maybe I don't drive a fancy car or wear fancy clothes-but I am still a customer and deserve the same treatment. I ended up going to see Marty at the St. Charles store--I rec'd. cart-blanch service at this store. I am so happy that Marty was able to help me. Boo-Hiss for Rich and wahoo for Marty!! read more

I would never recommend this place to anyone and we live less than a block away. Spent the last two days getting the run around from multiple people. Jim the manager was great at first but is clearly not leadership material. Jim decided not to clue any of his techs or assistant manager in on what we had spoke about the day before while he was out of the store. The assistant manager Freddie decided to hang up on me when I called in to complain about how the tires I ordered still weren't there and my wife had now shown up to our second appointment with them. All I wanted was for two tires to be changed out. Clearly this is not within their forte as it was a bigger hassle than just buying a whole new car. Thanks for the two free oil change coupons. I'll give them to the neighbor that I loath so he can be put through the misery known as Pep Boys. I would never take my car to your location again in fear of your incompetent leadership screwing up something worse than a tire change. read more

This morning I called Pep Boys and talked to Rich on the phone, who seemed nice enough and let me choose what time to bring my car in to have my rear brakes looked at. When I entered the store at the scheduled time Rich was walking out with another customer and luckily I had another Pep Boy employee helping me, Liam. I say luckily because when Liam went into the system he instantly saw they did not have my brakes in stock, since it was later in the day, he told me there would be an extra charge to get them from the Napa parts store instead of their Naperville Pep Boys store. Rich was sitting on the stool and I said I could bring the car back to help them out so they would have the needed parts. Rich said "It doesn't help me out but it helps you out with the price." I called about 8:15 am, my appointment was at 3:30pm. I believe that is enough time to let me know you do not have the brakes that fit my car. Once again Liam helped out by saying he could get the parts from Naperville in time to be fixed. He also was able to change out the burnt out license plate lights with rusted out screws and fix the tire pressure in one one of my tires. Pep Boys is lucky to have Liam working for them! If it wasn't for him I would have taking my business else where and wouldn't have such nice things to say. read more

Went in looking for a cabin air filter & license plate lights. Two people were already inside, one woman who seemed very confused about the price of her tires & another guy looking for a business discount. The woman couldn't understand why some discount didn't apply to her tires & the salesman kept repeating some Pep Boys jargon at her (Basically - "Because, Ma'am, you're currently getting the Mumbo-Jumbo discount and while it makes sense to you, you're wrong and you'll be charged this amount"). They have this thing where they'll excuse themselves from their current customer and ask the person waiting in line behind them, "What can I help you with, sir?" but they really don't care because they can't help you until they're done with the first person in the first place. Waste of time. Ultimately, she didn't understand but paid anyway. Finally my turn. Even though I already told them what I wanted, I have to explain myself for a second time. Lights & an air filter. They have my lights, but need to order my filter. $30+ (I want to say he quoted $37) for the filter. Fine, I tell him. Now, they have two registers, but only one can ring you up. So, now I need to wait for two Pep Boys employees to find the business guy on their one operating system. 10 min later, guy's found, done, & I'm finally rung up. In all, I've probably been in there 20 min. Walmart is across the street & I need some other things. Not a fan of Walmart, but I was near the automotive section & looked up air filters. They have mine, in stock, for $18. $18 vs. $37! Get home, bust out the rubber hospital gloves to install my lightbulbs & they don't even come close to looking like mine. Returned to the store today to get my $ back. Store manager Steve, for a $5 return, needs my name, my address, and my telephone #. I tell him I'd rather not give that personal info, but, of course, they MUST have it. Fake name, fake #, fake address, finally get the return processed when, really, all they need is the original credit card the purchase was made with in the first place. Once again, they don't NEED to know all that, they WANT to know all that so they can sell the info to telemarketers. Summary - fakers trying to scam you, take your $, and waste your time. I took my Acura MDX to Pep Boys when the brake pedal was too soft and the car was making a loud noise. They informed me that it was the master cylinder. I picked up the car at 5:30pm and while driving it I noticed it still made the same noise. The very next morning I took my Acura back and was told it was the air conditioner compressor. I was then told that sense this was a second issue I would be charge a second warranty deductible. The warranty company informed me that they are always getting double claims from Pep Boys to increase their charges to the customer. Stay away from Pep Boys if you love you car...they are the worst !!!! read more

I think its pretty crappy that their going to charge you for their rags and clean up supplies!! They are a business...that's like McDonalds charging you for their napkins.
