If I could, I'd rate 0 stars. Father brought his car in because it died. They performed an engine diagnostic for which he was charged $125. They informed him that the "compression on Cylinder 4 was at 40psi and when wet it was 50psi. And that the engine needs to be replaced because obviously there is an issue with the rings since it isn't making compression and since the psi went up while wet, it means there is an issue with the valvetrain and because of this they told him he needed to replace the engine for $4,000." I came in and asked what the actual problem is and requested the results of a cylinder leakdown test. They informed me that they didn't need to perform a cylinder leakdown test. I asked them how would you know if the issue is with the Pistons and rings/cylinders or if it was an issue with the head gasket or with the heads/valvetrain? He then repeated the same answer as before. So I then asked well since you are charging my father for an engine diagnostic test - which is to diagnose the issue and find the culprit (i.e. oil control ring or cylinder sleeve, etc) requires a full diagnostic even if tearing down the engine is required (within reason) - why they wouldn't perform a cylinder leakdown test to fully diagnose the issue and find out the exact issue since this is literally the very next step in the troubleshooting process for loss of compression in any cylinder. (Which is taught that way everywhere in every school, and is a part of the diagnostic process of each and every manufacturer's service manuals - basically, anyone that works as an automotive technician knows that if a compression test is conducted, a cylinder leakdown test follows). The reason I emphasize this point is because of the following response I received. I asked once again why they wouldn't perform this test to follow the proper troubleshooting steps for this particular issue and that's when the service writer, Dave, informed me that, "that may be the process that you perform and follow at the shop you clearly own (I only worked as a master mechanic for a decade), but that is not how we do things here." Which is clearly stating - at this shop location: we do not follow proper procedures or diagnostic processes. We do not know what we are doing and we should not at all be trusted to work on any cars. If this is simply one example of a BASIC FUNDAMENTAL PROCESS THAT IS STANDARD ACROSS THE ENTIRE TRANSPORTATION INDUSTRY (essentially ANY AND ALL internal combustion engines) THAT IS NOT FOLLOWED - HOW MANY OTHER PROCEDURES, STEPS, PROCESSES, SAFETY REGULATIONS, ETC ETC ETC ARE NOT FOLLOWED?! BY ALL MEANS - DO NOT EVER TRUST THIS SHOP WITH YOUR CAR - THEY DO NOT FOLLOW INDUSTRY STANDARDS, THEY DO NOT FOLLOW PROPER PROCEDURES, THEY ARE MOT TO BE TRUSTED AS THEY CLEARLY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEYRE DOING AT ALL AND TO COVER IT UP WILL LIE STRAIGHT TO YOUR FACE. We live really close to the shop, walking distance. We called after our car battery died asking if they'd be willing to come jump the car for us. Key thing here is they've offered to come pick us up from work if we had no way of getting our cars when they are done, so what's a 5 minute stop at our house and jump the car? No biggie. Again, we live very very close and we would pay them for it of course. However, they refused to come saying "we close at 12 and we don't do self service. Call a tow truck"........I'd also like to add that it's Christmas Eve and we have spend a TON of money at that shop for years. Never going back again. And I'm definitely letting other know they have terrible service.l and aren't loyal to their customers that trust them. Back in November of 2011, I had a terrible experience at Acorn Tires in Hoffman Estates, spent over a thousand dollars on wrong tires(their recommendation, of course, what do I know about tires), that needed to be replaced after 6,000 miles, had car parts missing after their work, and experienced terrible service. I had felt the alignment was still off when I had driven the car on a highway the very next day, so I called to have it rechecked. However, because the alignment work was done "as a service", and I didn't buy their extented warranty, Acorn Tires would not guarantee the work. I know, this review is for Army Trail GoodYear. This GoodYear store was recommended by a very trustworthy friend. I visited this GoodYear location on 2/27/12 for an oil change and to have my tires checked. After a quick oil change, Bruce was very helpful in showing me what was wrong with my car and carefully explained what necessary repairs were needed without wasting my money. I learned that tires have expiration dates, too, and that this GoodYear store never sell or install tires that were manufactured more than 6 months ago. I guess that's why you have to be careful about purchasing tires on sale. I would definitely recommend this place for all your tires and mechanic needs! read more

We came in for an oil change service/tire rotation. All seemed to be fine. They asked us about getting new tires and we declined. They showed us the cabin air filter which was FULL of debris (leaves, nuts, etc.) And asked us if we wanted to pay for a new one to be installed which we declined as well stating we would buy and install our own. When we got home and went to change out the filter, we found out they had shoved the filter back in without even dumping any of the debris out. I mean, come on, this is a common courtesy that would've taken all of 5 seconds to dump into a trash can. By putting it back in whilst it was still full of debris, it caused the debris to be pushed even further into the interior of the car, which then became very difficult to remove. Eek! Me thinks not is RIGHT. I convinced my friend to drop her car off here for an Oil Change as I had a flyer for $19.95 Lube, Oil and Filter from a mailer as we were on our way to buy mother's day presents. When she got there they told her that she couldn't use the coupon which says "Most cars and light trucks," because her wagon/mini-van was too close to a truck. But then retracted their statement and acted like they would do her a favor and take the coupon anyway. It was clear that I was picking her up andwe were leaving the car. The guy told her "I will bring the car back in 20 minutes." An hour later, we return and the car is still in the same position/place she parked it. The service workers were sittin around shootin the daily news with two lifts open! He comes in and says, "Oh it's not done yet." I asked her if he told her it would be brought back in twenty minutes when she dropped it off an hour ago and he quickly replied "NO!...I told her ABOUT 20 minutes." Then said he would take it in ten minutes....or so. So an hour and 30 minutes to start an oil job? Forget it dude! Jiffy Lube has people walking the sidewalks they can get people in and out so fast! Lost the business and mine. The only reason I recommended it was because I have had fantastic service from the West Chicago Good Year. Big mistake on my part I guess. I will be sure to tell everyone I know that not only are their coupons bait and switch, but it will take an hour and a half just to get started on an oil change! read more

Took my car here for an oil change. Months later, my car was leaking oil. Took it to dealer (I get loaners there). They found that the oil filter was loose and oil had collected under the engine cover before it showed up on the ground. Dealer had to power wash the engine area and give me a new oil change. They told me if I had not noticed the leak, it could have caused engine problems. Army Trail was (1) angry that I didn't bring it back to them (first time I took this car there); (2) angry that it took months (hey, generally speaking, I put on less than 10 miles a day -- it took a while to show up) and (3) refused to pay me for the clean up and new oil change (I even have an email from the dealership stating the problem). They did, however, offer me an oil change. Why would I need that? The dealership just gave me one. And, eventually, they offered me my money back. Too bad that, despite several phone calls, they never paid me (although even that was only about 1/3 of the cost to fix their mess!). If I could, I'd give them -. (Someone from corporate said THEY would pay, but because it's privately owned, they can't make these people pay). I won't go back and I wouldn't recommend that you go at all! I woke up to a flat and had AAA tow me to the closest garage, which unfortunately was Army Trail Tire... Even though I called an hour ahaed of time I still waited over an hour and a half to recive an update on my car. They told me that they had simply repaired the tire but found other issues in the car the needed imidiate attention and were VERY pushy about me having it taken care of that day (Sadly this happens often to young woman when the see a mechanic...) I find it of no coincidence that very night i started leaking breakfluid.... I put more fluid in an it maintained for 2 more days until my breaks completely failed! I almost crashed on Army Trail on my way to the dentist. I then had my car towed once again but this time to a mechanic i Trust... He tells me that my breakline by my right front tire has been badly punctured( front right was the initail flat...) So thanks to Armu trail tire I was almost in a very bad accident and now have to pay $400+ to fix my breakline..... Dont go here.... literally go anywhere else.... Went here to get an oil change and was happy that they didn't try to tell me I needed some "special" oil that Midas tried to tell me I needed before even knowing what kind of car I had.. how ridiculous! But what impressed me most was that I was told that one of my tires had run flat damage and I expressed that I should just get all new tires. Now most places would jump at that. Not this place. Tbey advised me the other tires were fine, and that I just needed to replace the one tire. I was totally impressed! Even quoted me low to high prices. The next day I took the car in to where I originally got the tires from to see if I had a warranty (to which I did) but they pretended as if they knew nothing about what the issue I was trying to explain what was wrong with the tire. Although I had my receipt from Army Trail Tires with the notation of what was wrong, but somehow they didn't see it. So I telephoned Army Trail tires and wrote down exactly what they told me. Needless to say the old tire shop was pissed that they had to replace my tire at no cost. I will definitely continue to get my oil changes here. Paid over $300 for brake service in June, 2010. Brakes were making a grinding noise in June, 2011 after 17,000 miles driven. Invoice stated that brakes were under warranty for 30,000 miles. This business serviced the brakes again; they charged me for labor, but not parts. They said that it was normal for brakes to require service once a year. They added new rotors in 2011 and cleaned my rear brakes. My bill was over $300 again. Their hourly labor rate of $98.00 is high compared to similar shops. read more

This place was recommended by a friend and glad he did. I have been there a few times and have NEVER been disappointed. GREAT service and GREAT prices! While not as convenient as just driving up to an oil change place, it is worth scheduling oil changes here. I NEVER feel like I am being upsold for unneeded services which is now the norm at oil change places. It is nice to walk into a car repair establishment knowing you will not get taken advantage of. And the repairs they have done are done right the first time. Never had to go back due to a botched repair. Can't say enough good things about this place. I would avoid them like a plague. Me and my wife have been doing business with them for several years until recently. We had our car tow in because it wouldn't start. The "theft light" was on the dashboard, and sometimes that would cause the car not to start. Over $600 later, they fixed the "theft light" issue. We drove it home and the next day it wouldn't start again! We had to get in tow back in and was told it was the fuel pump causing the problem, which would be close to $700 to fix! I had a discussion with the mexcian guy (i forget his name) at the front desk.. I ask him why wasn't the fuel pump diagnosed in the first place. "Well everything was working when the car left the shop", but if the car was properly diagnosed, they would of found that the fuel pump was causing the problem. Obviously there was still something wrong when it left the shop. "Well the part could of went bad after you left the shop".. (Mind you that it was only one day after the car stop working again, the part was already bad, but they didn't diagnose it properly) We went back and forth, but then he stated that "I was ludacris in my thinking".. After spending not hundreds, but thousands of dollars, in car repair and a customer who they know on a first name basis, have the nerve to talk down to me like that! Being a customer for years, I can tell you that they don't respect there good customers.. At first it's good service, but just wait until they mis diagnose an issue and you spend alot of money and asking questions. Even the tow truck driver stated that they don't do business with them.. I will never take a car here again. I took my car in to have a wheel bearing replaced and an oil change. I made it clear that I am trading the car in 3 months and I didn't want any additional services. The person behind the counter, whom I assume was the manager, told me I needed four new tires because mine were falling apart. I explained the tires were only 3 years old and he insisted they were falling apart, but would not let me into the shop area to see them. I replaced the tires anyway because I do a lot of highway driving and was worried about a blowout. Replacing the tires and doing the oil change takes over 4 1/2 hours. The very next day as I am driving into Chicago a warning bell goes off and the display on my dash says "oil pressure low. stop engine" So I stop and the warning bell and light goes off. This happened several more times on the trip. So I take the car back to the shop today and explain what happened. They look at it and tell me that the oil pressure sensor is bad. I said it seems a bit coincidental that the day after I have the oil changed the sensor suddenly goes bad. Instantly the manager and and older gentleman behind the counter start yelling at me. The older gentleman's first statement was "I don't need your business, you can just get out". The other guy starts accusing me of calling him a liar and that I can just get out. I stated that their response to a customer's concern says a lot about their business and they again tell me to get out. i received coupon of alignment for 59 dollars which says most of cars for 59 dollars. so, i called to make sure for the specific cars also for that price. which is Bez R350. I called this place according to my phone record it was on Oct. 6, 3:55pm and a gentleman received my call and i asked for Bez R350 and if it is also for 59 dollars and he paused some seconds to check and said yes and i made an appointment on Monday, oct. 10th at 8:30 am. Bez R350 is my friend's car and he drove from northbrook almost 30 miles for alignment. he came in first he said they said it is for 99 dollars. i came i said i called and a clerk said it is also 59 dollars, he right away said i called another place. i showed him my phone which clearly shows oct. 6, 3:55pm to 630 830 5900. he doesn't looked at it and kept arguing on. he showed the coupon said "most of vehicles" and i don't understand English. this is color discriminating speak. but this is the reason for me why to call and make sure.
