Took my truck to pep boys Bethel Park location for a small transmission leak in my truck. 5 days and721 dollars later I got my truck back. I drove it a grand total of 9 miles before the entire transmission broke completely. I took it to a different shop and 3000 dollars later I got my truck back, but not before it broke again because pep boys used a wrong connection line in their repair. I sent their corporate offices 3 emails with zero response, and the Bethel Park location refused to take any responsibility at all. Avoid these rip off scammers at all costs!!! read more

There is no such thing as an appointment! We are a one car family. So, we scheduled an appointment for our inspection at 9:00 AM. They finally looked at our car around 10:30 AM. It is now after 12:00 PM and we are still waiting for our car. Prior to coming, our car was looked at by the dealership and all of the repairs were made to pass the safety inspection. However, the engine light was on due to a needed coil pack repair, which was repaired at the dealership. Prior to passing emissions (which is necessary in our state to pass the safety inspection), our vehicle had to move through a 300 mile cycle with the new coil pack to make sure the engine light stayed off. We were going on vacation so that only took a hot minute. A week later, we are sitting in the PepBoys, full disclosure given about the previous service and a full safety inspection and emissions report from the dealership was shared. They literally had to do a once over and put stickers on it. But no, can't walk out without an up charge! They're insisting that we have a turn signal bulb out (that wasn't out when we brought the car here this morning) and they won't inspect it unless we pay them an extra $25 to change the bulb. So, we're waiting for a part, maybe? Who knows? But we're still waiting. It's been over 3 hours PepBoys! read more

I went into this shop w/ a fast-leaking tire and a Penguins hockey game to get to. The woman at the desk, Erin, made a real effort to get me in right away and have my tire looked at. Unfortunately, it couldn't be repaired, so they mounted my spare on it because I didn't have time to do much else. They didn't charge me at all. I really expected some sort of service charge, but no. So I can't really comment on their products, but in this case their service was the best I could hope for in the time I had. read more

I took my car in for an emissions test to get my sticker and they put my broken passenger window down all the way for absolutely no reason. it wouldn't go back up. I was told I should have told them it was broken. so because I didn't I have to pay to get it fixed. $508. state inspection requires drivers window only be checked, and like I said it was in for emissions only any way. and don't bother making an appointment even 4 days ahead, they won't be able to get to it that day, to many cars ahead of you. read more

First, Pep Boys website sucks. I tried to order tires and schedule an appointment online. The website had the wrong size tires listed for my make and model. When I tried to purchase the correct size, it told me I couldn't because they would not fit. So I called to schedule. Very friendly on the phone. I was told it was first come first serve for the next day and they did not take appointments. That's fine, I had my wife take the car down on a Thursday morning. She was checked in and was signed up for text alerts to view the progress of the tire install. The approximate time was for 2 hours. It took over 5 hours to install! The app never gave any kind of progress at all, only that the vehicle was checked in and it would be finished in approximately 2 hours. Once the 5 hours was over the progress final updated with check in, Technician Assigned, Vehicle in Process, Vehicle Sanitized (whatever that is) and ready for pickup. If there would have been any accurate communication at all, we would have made sure someone picked her up so she did not have to wait all day. The whole process was a joke. read more

When I called to make an appointment for new tires for my car, I was assured I did not need an appointment because the tires I need are "always in stock." When I arrived from out of state for the weekend, I was then told that Pep Boys did not have my tires in stock. They offered me more expensive tires, but wouldn't give me a discounted rate. I had purchased four tires for my chevy traverse and after not quite a year, have developed a slow leak in one of the tires. I stopped at this location to have it looked at and was told that they couldn't look at it today, that I had to make an appointment. It's a shame that you spend nearly $900 for tires and they can't take 30 minutes to help a customer. read more

do not go to pep boys on library road in bethel park! attached you will see an actual quote of $2321.25! yes folks this is for real. i was told my car needed all new pads, rotors, calipers and brake fluid. never in my life have i ever been quoted such an outrageous price for brakes. i had two other mechanics tell me in all of their years of working on breakes they have never had someone need all new calipers. one mechanic told me even if he had to replace everythign they said that i needed with premium pads and labor the cost at most would be $1500.00. after having my car towed out of there and checked by another mechanic.... all my car needed was some brake fluid and front pads! the cost of the pads and fluid was $50.00! they should be ashamed of themselves and it is pure evil to do this to people. read more

Pep Boys on Library Rd in Bethel Park came through for me again. I had a "bad" noise after a trip - sounded like a fan roaring and stayed on a few minutes after engine turned off. So, after reading previous review I was hesitant to call them-and more scared after Service Guy's first comment was "It'll be $40 for electrical diagnostics." But, at Pep boys my car was fixed and ready to go. Same day service! Big price but fixed quick. I don't know if $300 is reasonable for a cooling fan module replacement. But, Convenience means a lot to me. I just wish the Service Dept personnel were more pleasant. read more

I called my dealer and they were closing in ten minutes. My children were away for the holiday weekend and i needed my car. I remembered there was a pep boys nearby and when i called they were open til 8. They gave me an appointment for 6. I went and met bob and rodney. They were the best!!! They examined the tire, told me what happened and what my options were. They were very kind and courteous. They helped me solve the problem and i truly appeciated their assistance. I'm giving it two stars, because it's the average of three for the store and 1 for the service department. The store itself is useful. Often has good sales on oil and filters, as well as tools. Every detailing item imaginable. I am a fan of Advance Auto, but Pep Boys is more of a store that you can browse. The service department, on the other hand, is a disaster. Sure, they have a lot of bays. That doesn't mean that you'll get serviced any time soon. But even that is acceptable, if you could be assured that the quality of the work done on your vehicle was high (or at least consistent). Please note that this rating is based solely on the Bethel Park Pep Boys, and does not reflect the service departments of the other ones. In particular, I think highly of the Pleasant Hills Pep Boys service department. I come here because it is conveniently located and usually open. While Monro down the street or Firestone requires advance appointments, you can usually get into the Pep Boys for something like a brake job, inspection, oil change. However, this particular Pep Boys seems to be the training ground for new workers because they often miss the most obvious of problems. For example: I had a check engine light go off because of a misfire. I know that it misfired and I know that it happened in a massive downpour one day. I took it to Pep Boys to get it reset and checked out, and the guy said the code read "lean", and that the O2 sensor was bad. Ok fine, it's possible. He also said that the spark plugs needed replaced otherwise it was no good doing the O2 sensor. I told him that that was dumb as I just replaced the spark plugs about 10k miles previously and that I could do it later. Then I was informed that "oh, we changed the plugs anyway because that's standard" and they added $80 for it. I said, "wait a moment, you're charging me $20 per plug? You realize that it's about 10 minutes labor to swap out plugs on this car (they are all sticking right out of the top of the block easily accessible). They finally agreed to take $40 off since they didn't ask if I wanted them to install the plugs. They also said I needed a new fuel filter and flush. I said, I doubt that has anything to do with the problem, but okay, the car has gone 90k miles without it changed, so fine go ahead. They said they'd get right on it. Six hours later, I was still there. Finally, I drove out, and within 50 miles, the check engine light came on again. I popped the hood just to see and saw the whole air intake manifold was torn (dry rot) open. I took it back to Pep Boys the next day and they said, "check engine light says you're running lean. You're going to need new plugs and a new O2 sensor." Um, excuse me? I just got those replaced YESTERDAY. What about that huge tear in the intake manifold? "Oh well, that might be a problem. But we need to call a dealer to get that part. In the meantime, running lean probably destroyed your O2 sensor and your plugs. Do you want us to change out the plugs and sensor?" Well yeah, if they got ruined. "It'll be $XXX.XX." You mean you're charging me for your oversight? In the end, going to Pep Boys for a routine Check Engine Light was a disaster that cost me more money than it would have simply going to the dealer in the first place. And if that were an isolated case, I'd still give their service a 3 star rating. But the fact is, over the course of eight years, I have always felt ripped off in both time and money, and I feel that their mechanic "expertise" is lacking. I won't go here for any kind of service any more. I will get a car inspected perhaps, but that's about it. read more

I took my Kia Sportage to Pep Boys only because I was desperate. It was a Friday afternoon, 90+ degrees, and my A/C quit working. The following Monday was a holiday, so I went only because no one else could see me until Tuesday.. When the problem was not obvious and there was a chance the system would need replaced, they asked if I would be patient while the head mechanic took a look. He discovered an issue he had recently seen on a car like mine. His request to take the time for a second look saved me hundreds of dollars. So to my surprise and pleasure, I am compelled to share a five star review. The were friendly, informative, obviously helpful and exceedingly conscientious. Super impressed! read more

Lousy, just plain lousy. I had an 11:00 appointment scheduled for a state inspection. I called around 4:00 and they still had not started on my car. They said that they had 2-3 cars ahead of mine still and that they should be finished by 8pm. Really? Whats the point of an appointment? I spoke with the manager, who seemed less than apologetic. Pep boys clearly does not specialize in customer service. It was evident with the managers tone that this was not his first rodeo with an unsatisfied customer. Ultimately, I went back to Pep boys and requested my keys back. Taking your business elsewhere is the best approach with them. read more

Been taking my car here for around 15 years for routine maintenance due to the service. Recently had a switch in employees and a new member named Cody was behind the desk and running the shop for the day. When I picked my car up, he had a mechanic ring me up at the register. I have always been able to "price match" with other competitors no matter what the cost. The mechanic called Cody back to the register when I asked him for the match and Cody said he was unable to match at the $19.99 which I had given him and just took $5 off the $34.99 that I was charged. This had been a significant reason and the service why I always kept coming back. After I talked about this with Cody for a minute and he gave me some excuse why they couldn't match it, I was charged the $29.99 and he left the register for the mechanic to continue ringing me up. At this point, which there was only one other customer waiting in line behind me, the mechanic got frustrated because he had never used the register before and began using the "f" word due to being frustrated in front of myself and the customer behind me. This was the most unprofessional and worst experiences I have had in a business in a long time. The loyalty I had to this place for last last 15 years went down to zero due to this experience and the employees that are now working there. I will never return to this place again read more

Bad customer service. I went to pick up my car after realizing I had to reschedule my inspection appointment. The guy working the service desk - "Brad" - was sitting in the customer lounge talking to another customer while reading a newspaper. He saw me walk in and stand at the desk but didn't get up to help me. I walked over to him and made direct eye contact with him but he still didn't approach me. At this point I was wondering if he was on a break. After another minute of waiting I approached him again and asked if anyone else was working who could help me. He said "oh, are you here to get your car?" I said yes. We had just spoken on the phone and I told him I had to come back and get it. He said I could walk around back to pick it up. Once I walked around back I realized Brad also didn't give me back my insurance card or registration. I had to ask a mechanic to grab it off the desk for me. The only reason I give this place a couple of stars is because I'm sure the mechanics are good, it was just terrible customer service. My experience definitely makes me want to go somewhere else for my next appointment. If you have good mechanics, hire better customer service. read more

I had a 9:30 appt for inspection, 4 new tires, and oil change. Shelly failed to mention the tires weren't in stock and would be coming from another store (I was lead to believe they were in stock) so needless to say my car wasn't done when they specifically told me it would be. Also, I couldn't believe after spending almost $900 today they didn't fill my wiper fluid with my oil change. I know what Bailey L was talking about regarding customer service. When I called Brad said "Well, I don't know what you want me to do." Wow, maybe customer service courses are needed at this place. Scheduled an appointment in August to get my car inspected. 3 hours later they call me with a list of things that need to be fixed. Agreed to it and came back to the Pep Boys and waited another 2 hours before I ask the staff the status of my car. In those 2 hours they neglected to notify me that the brake pad rotors for my car that they had delivered by another Pep Boys didn't fit my car and that they would need to order them. They also inform they they'll need to order a new driver's side mirror since my current one was cracked. After I finally ask them about the status of my car do they finally call about ordering the rotors and the mirror. The service manager then asks me to pay up front for everything. I figure, sure, I'll be back Tuesday probably (when they said the mirror should arrive by as the rotors should arrive by Sunday) so I can get everything done at once and my inspection stickers. Visit 1 and 6 hours gone. Visit 2 I come by after work on Tuesday to get everything (rotors, mirror, stickers) and when I pull into the parking lot they call me saying that a prior appointment ran late and that they need to reschedule for Thursday. Fine, 30 minutes wasted but I'll come back Thursday. Thursday rolls around (Visit 2 Part 2) and 3 hours later they've put on the brake pad rotors but then tell me the mirror they ordered doesn't fit after I again have to go the service desk and ask about my car. I'm now extremely unhappy and the service manager is nowhere to be found. I say I'll be back then for my mirror (I've already paid for everything) but once I drive off I realize they took off my old mirror (cracked but still useable) and left nothing on my driver side mirror (completely useless). I call them and tell them I'm coming back for my mirror and while I was being transferred one of the employees goes, "what a nut." Way to go insulting customers while they're still on the phone. I get back to the Pep Boys (Visit 3) to find out they've managed to smash my old mirror so it's in a million pieces and completely useless so they put on this piece of reflective plastic material until my new mirror comes in. It's completely useless for seeing out of as the plastic reflects nothing but vague shapes. I call the service manager who is unapologetic and can only offer pathetic excuses of this is what happens with aftermarket parts. I'm sorry I thought I paid you to either have the knowledge or to be able to find out the necessary information. They finally manage to get my mirror in on Wednesday but I had prior commitments so I got it Thursday (Visit 4). The service manager does not even bother apologizing or showing up and he left one of his employees a $25 gift card as a way of making up for the inconvenience. After spending over 10 hours at the Pep Boys and even more hours of frustration dealing with him and this whole situation that's the only consolation they can offer. Poor service, rude staff, and endless hours wasted. Avoid this Pep Boys at all costs. read more
