Now this is how service should be done, and how all Pep Boys should be. If you checked my review of the Pep Boys in Cranberry, PA, you saw what a crappy experience I had, topped off with the worst customer service I've ever encountered anywhere. Now, I usually take my car to the Steubenville Pike Pep Boys, so the Cranberry thing was just a one-off because at the time I thought it would be more convenient as I was in the area and figured the service was good at my usual location, so why not elsewhere? Won't make that mistake again. Anyway, last weekend I took my car in due to some rumbling noise in the rear which I thought was due to a bearing. Turned out I needed my struts replaced. So Bob, ace Pep Boy extraordinaire at this location told me he could take $100 off with some in store coupons to buffer a bit of the cost as I would also need an alignment, which goes hand in hand with this sort of job. So I took my car back in today. They fixed the struts, but Bob informed me they found some other weird noise after that. I was a bit saddened by the news as this is a '99 Camry I'm driving with over 200,000 miles on it. Great car, still drives excellently, but these little repairs can add up fast. When I went to pick up my car and pay for the struts, Bob informed me that the other noise was being caused by the bushings, and that he just comped that for me, saying, "I just wanted to make sure it was 100% for you." Awesome. Just, fantastic in every way. I also got the discount that he mentioned the week before. So all in all, I was a happy guy, fully vindicated after the disaster that was my previous trip to the Cranberry Store. This is the Pep Boys you want to go to if you're in the area. The staff is friendly, they know what they're doing, and they're not there to just punch in and out and pick up a paycheck. Bob went out of his way to make sure I got service above and beyond what I expected just because he's Bob, and he's awesome. So take note, corporate heads of Pep Boys, this is a stellar store and one all your others should be modeled after. The Cranberry location can still eat it. read more

I had to wait and understood that it would take a while but after three hours, they still hadn't touched my car. I went to ask for my keys to leave and they said it would be better to leave the car but I only have one car and one days off. Why offer appointments if you can't honor them? read more

We recently moved from California and AAA TOLD US WE NEEDED INSPECTIONS ON OUR VEHICLES and suggested Pep Boys in Robinson. Two different vehicles, two different days we were told we needed over $1100 and $1500 in work in order to pass. We wanted second opinions so we went somewhere else each vehicle we got two additional opinions and neither vehicle needed anything additional to pass our inspections. This is foul and I swore I would never be able to have a negative experience anywhere here because PA is such a great place. I went to this pep boys to get a new set of tires with the works. What I got was the worst shimmy I had ever experienced in a car in 55 years. I took it back to them and they made me wait for an appointment for them to fix it and were rude and dismissive. What I got was a new record for the worst shimmy I have ever experienced in a car in 55 years I took it back for a third try, and they made me wait 4 days for an appointment, telling me they didn't know what was wrong but it wasn't them. What I got was finally a decent feeling car, with a very slight shimmy remaining which I have no way of telling is because they screwed it up again or there may be another issue for that particular item. After the "successful" third try, one of the junior tech assistance let me know that an even more junior person balance the wheels without removing the old weights the first time. The second time they gave it back to the same person without any kind of supervision and they balance the wheels with now two sets of old weights on them. Finally the third time the other Junior assistant took all of the weights off and balanced them and I have the current marginally acceptable result. No one... Not one soul except that junior assistant technician... Has yet spoken to me a single word about this. They wouldn't even speak to me when I got my keys back. They wouldn't speak to me when I raised the issue in question is what happened just to see if maybe they would at least say 'oops sorry".... But not a single word of any kind in months after the horror show of their incompetent work. read more

I have to give them one star because they never even looked at my car. I took my car in last week for a tire patch because there was a screw in my tire. I made an appointment the day before for a 10:00 AM drop off time and there were dozens of times to select. I was at the garage at 9:40 AM to drop my car off, they took my keys, told me they would be in touch early if there were any issues, otherwise, they would contact me when it was done. I had parked my car in the lot out front and offered to pull it over by the bays to make it easier for them but they said not to worry and they would move it when they were ready. I checked the tracker I was texted throughout the day to check on the progress but it never changed. Finally around 3:00 PM I called to check and see how things were going since I hadn't heard anything and my husband convinced me that the tracker probably isn't an accurate way to track the movements of the garage. The gentleman I spoke to informed me they hadn't gotten to my car yet and they probably wouldn't until the next day if "that was okay". It was not okay because I live 45 minutes away but work across the street and needed to get home. The tracker had said the estimated time my car would be done was 6:00 PM. I finally went over at 5:30 PM after work and told the man at the counter that I would need my keys because I could not wait any longer. He went back to find me keys and had to pick up the paper work off the floor? It seems as if it had fallen on the ground in the garage leading me to feel as if they had no idea my car was even there for them. My car was in the exact same place in the parking lot that I had left it that morning. To top it off, the tire was practically flat again and they didn't offer any sort of air to help me get home. The next day we took it to a place by our house, in the middle of the day, without an appointment, and they were done in about an hour. I understand places can be busy, but to keep my completely in the dark all day and then act as if it is totally normal for a patch job to take two days is crazy to me. Later that evening I received an email from them saying they were "Sorry I missed my appointment". This leads me to believe that I either was not checked in properly or my information was misplaced and I got skipped. read more

Liars. Thieves. They overcharged me for a stuck caliper. Replaced my entire brake system. Then supposedly did a State inspection. Upon approval, they went to scrape my old stickers and found a clear UV tint on my windshield. The PA DOT and PA DMV have both legally stated that no windows are to even be checked as part of the vehicle inspection. And that as long as windshield is not more than 15% tint, it's legal. Mine was simply a UV tint and they scraped it off without warning me. Scratched up my window and left the flecks of the tint sheet all over my dashboard, as well as leaving the sticky residue on my windshield. I paid them and left. Once home, I wrote a full description of how I was treated and the damage done to my vehicle to their customer service on their website. Zero attempt was made to contact me for any follow-up at all. All that being said, do NOT go here. These schemers are not worthy of even one ounce of your trust or one penny of your hard earned money. You've been warned. read more

Brought my car in for inspection and emissions, and a check engine light on. Since my check engine light was on they said it failed emissions and it would be $99 to run a diagnostics. After almost 5 hours, I heard the technician tell the advisor he had to kick it to a dealer. My car is a hybrid and they told me they were not equipped to handle the voltage on my auxiliary battery, and that my battery had actually died while trying. $160 and 5 hours for an emission that failed (that they shouldn't have done) and a diagnostic that they could technically complete. read more

Hello, Congratulations for hiring the great crooks, working on your stores, cheating people, wasting their time, not knowing how to do their jobs. Even the people inside the service bay, do not know how to change a tire. Amazing, great. People at the check in and check out counter, are great, they know how to be ignorant and deny their early commitments and deny the earlier given quotes. Wow. Yesterday I was cheated at the Sharpstown location (Southwest Freeway). I checked and rechecked the quotes, online and over the phone. I booked an appointment at the location. I visited and the person (at checkin) confirmed the appointment, and took my car to the service area. I was asked to wait and wait and wait. While I could the struggle going on in the service area, and i was repeatedly asked to wait, and be patient and wait and be patient. This practice took 4 hours. After 4 hours those untrained struggling workers were able to mount the tires somehow. Then they performed a 3 minutes alignment on my car. Finally I was asked to pay before the car comes out of the service bay. I was asked to pay $1,245.70, for the great service and 4 hours of wait and stress. While I was quoted $1,085.00 online at the appointment confirmation and later on phone. I was forced to pay the amount they billed and earlier quoted price was denied. Having no option paid the amount. Now at this stage I have a few understandings and questions. I completely understand and confident that you do not care about any stupid customers like me and their stupid msgs like this. I do understand and am sure that there is no force to make you reply this email. But I assure you I will not forget this and I will inform everyone I would ever meet in my life. I do not understand why would you quote the prices online and over the phone, that you can not honor ? I do not understand why would you hire crooks to cheat people on the counters ? I do not know why would you hire the people to work in service areas,, those who can not even mount the tires ? I do not understand why and how on earth it may take 4 hours to mount tires on a vehicle ? I do not understand that mounting tires takes 4 hours while an alignment job takes on 3 minutes ? Well I did learnt my lesson and got properly punished for my mistake to trust Pepboys and letting them rob me. The last episode of this serial is that, my car started dancing as soon as I approached the ramp on 610. Pepboys was already closed while I was waiting for my car. So having no option, spent another hour to get back to home in a turtle walk speed. Today got the car fixed somewhere else, thanks God not the Pepboys. My car was towed to Pep Boys on Steubenville Pike, Robinson Township, Pa. It would not start. The first day, they said that they were receiving conflicting diagnostics, so they would have to call the dealership tomorrow. The second day, they said that they brought in a master technician to diagnose my car, and he determined that I need a new engine for $4792 dollars, $2431 dollars to remove and replace the engine block, $188 dollars for an installation kit, $149.99 for a lifetime coolant exchange, $413.29 for an extended warranty, they also recommended air conditioning and power steering work. I declined and had it towed to Meineke. It needed a new fuel pump for $833 dollars, and now runs fine. I am taking them to court for diagnostic reimbursement. Read the reviews! Absolutely horrible experience. I have never written a poor review, so it pains me to type this out, but I would HATE for anyone to go through what I was put through. I made an apt to get new tires on my truck and used the pep boys website to figure out if they had what I was looking for. I dropped off my truck at 5pm and told them I would need it finished and returned that evening. By 7:30pm I hadn't heard anything, so I walked back in and was told my truck would be done before they closed at 8pm. At 7:57pm I got a call from an employee named Ralph demanding that my truck would not be ready due to incorrect tires being order. I walked into the store to talk to Ralph in person, only to have him swear in my face (using the f bomb), throw his paperwork on his keyboard and storm away from the desk, right in the middle of our conversation. After about 10 minutes he came back, assisted the man behind me, and THEN explained the only tires he had available we're going to be $200 more expensive than what I had originally planned on paying. This store let my truck sit there for 3 hours, and realized the tires that were ordered were incorrect only 3 minutes before closing. And tried to place the blame on me. I was charged an extra $200 for the total cost of tires and was still charged the installation fee even though I waited until almost 9pm until my truck was finished. Totaling $630. Not to mention I was sworn at by their employee, Ralph. I felt bad for all the other guys working there, as they were kind and apologetic about the time I waited and the way Ralph treated me, but their kindness had to be set aside. Very dishonest. My 2018 Chevy Equinox got a nail in the tire. Called ahead and they told me it would be $30 to patch. Got there and was told the tire needed to be replaced because the tread was 3/32nds and "according to PA law" could not be patched. In addition, since it was an all wheel drive vehicle, all 4 tires would need to be replaced because they couldn't just replace one. Needless to say I declined, took it to another shop and got the tire patched for $20. Ridiculous. Will never again even consider going to them for anything. What crooks. read more

They forgot to put oil in my car during an oil change, they're reimbursing me for some of my expenses and trying to give me $2860 for the car. A used engine is going to cost me $3600. I'm getting it towed for $200 and they can reimburse me up to $200. The fact I have to do everything to fix a mistake I didn't cause is absolutely insane. I'm losing out on hundreds, I've lost hours at work from this, and I haven't been able to drive my car for 4 months. Claims department has been horrible with responding. They love to not call back or check their emails for weeks on end. Don't risk your car, money, and time going here. read more

I took my car in knowing the brakes needed done, I get a call about 2 hours later and they tell me i'll need the brake pads, rotors, and calipers all replaced. They said the total would be $1068. For reference i'm a 20 year old female so maybe they just like to rip off young girls for a living. Anyways I told them there was no way i could pay for that today and made an appointment at another shop. The mechanic there told me I did not need my calipers replaced and charged me less than HALF of what pep boys was trying to charge me. Moral of the story, do not trust this shop. read more

Originally I scheduled a service appointment online, I come to the appointment and I'm told they don't know how the web works and I have to schedule an appointment for the next day. I schedule for the next day. I show up again and I am told I have to reschedule again because "the machine is broken." The appointment was for a state inspection, apparently there's a machine that takes off your tires and looks at the brakes for you? On top of the poor customer service this was a complete waste of time and not to mention the hours I lost taking time off from work to go there. Oh man. So for some back story: My dad is a mechanic. I've worked at his shop for 15 years - I really know when somebody is ripping me off when it comes to auto repair. That said, I rarely need assistance outside of my dear dad. This past week I did. I car sat for my friend for 6 weeks while she was overseas. As I was returning her car to the airport (I was dropping it off in short term parking, so when she got in late that night, she could just go home), I ran over debris on the Parkway and shredded both tires on the driver's side near the Settlers Ridge Shopping Center. I was completely screwed (or so I thought). My friend only has one car. I really thought I was going to have to wait for her and her family at the airport, her flight was due in 8 hours from the time I ran over the debris -- and I don't live close, so I would have been waiting. I also thought I would have to drive all the way back to the city, I live an hour south, the following day to deal with car issue, since my friend wouldn't be able to. Turns out I didn't. Pep Boys had me covered. I called Pep Boys 1-800 number for a tow to their Steubenville Pike location. I was towed and both tires were replaced with 4 hours -- this happened at 4:30 pm on Thursday. I had no appointment, obviously. There were terrible storms going through the area too -- they even lost power but kept doing what they could without it. To me, that was impressive enough. Then I got the bill -- $309.00 for the tow, labor, and two tires (they were low profiles -- so not the cheapest tires out there). What? I was really expecting a 500+ bill. I have a TON of experience making automotive bills. These people were beyond fair. They could have easily tacked on fees for no appointment or charged me a higher hourly rate for emergency labor. Instead, they gave me a discount card that took 30 dollars off the bill. This is the kind of experience I would expect at my dad's shop --- with is small and caters to a small town -- not a huge chain. If you are considering the Pep Boys location, they seem to be the real deal. If I ever have an emergency like that again, I would definitely give Pep Boys another go! read more

I used to go to this location for 5 years for oil changes and tire purchases as well as my yearly safety/emission stickers. I will forever judge all other pep boys by this location. I always had a very attentive person to deal with and no problems after-wards, which we all know is the worst..... Even when towed in once (out of the blue because my battery died) I was given great service and was out of there with a new battery in my car in an hour and a half. Since I left PA I've been to 2 other pep boys locations that are awful here in CT. This one is GREAT compared to the others. read more

I had an appointment to get my car inspected at 9am. I got there 15 minutes early in the hopes that having an appointment and getting there early would mean my car was taken care of promptly. I waited for over an hour, which seems unreasonable for a car inspection. The employees were all very nice and polite which I did appreciate. But I was very frustrated with how long I had to wait as I had somewhere to be, that's the only reason I took a few stars off. Have had a variety of experiences here. I brought my vehicle in for an oil change and light bulb replacement. Called ahead and made an appt. When i arrived I was told it would be an hour. Two hours later my vehicle was still parked in the lot. Finally complete after 2.5 hours. My next visit was for tires, oil change and alignment. Once again, I made my appt, and told them I would go to lunch. They did say it may be 2 hours this time. I called before I returned and was told it hadnt gone in yet and that they would start on it right now. I waited 2 more hours and called again. I got the same response. At no time did anyone call me to update me on the delay, and was given no reason for the delay. Customer service really needs to improve. If you are in a hurry for your vehicle, look elsewhere or bring a lunch and a novel to read while you wait. Probably wont return. read more

On March 17, 2012, I was involved in a fender bender right off I 376 at Summit Park Drive. Because of the fender bender, I needed to purchase some bungee cables to hold my bumper and the like together so I could make the hour and ten minute drive back home. The police stated at the scene that I could drive the vehicle home, advised me to purchase some cables at the mall from Sears and to drive slowly and carefully home. Well, Sears did not have any cables in their automotive section and directed me to Pep Boys just up the road. Upon pulling into Pep Boys, I saw Patrick H. standing outside the automotive garage and asked if someone might be able to help me "tie-up" my car once purchasing some cables. He instantly replied "Sure, no problem, I'll help you out". I ran into Pep Boys grabbed two packages of cables equally a total of 10 bucks, when Brian R. in sales rang me out. I mentioned that I had been in a fender bender and asked Patrick to assist with putting the cables on the car and what the charge would be for that. Brian R. waved his hand and replied "Don't worry about it, I'll ring you out and I'll come out to help." To my surprise I said ok. I took Patrick and Brian to my SUV, which was in the middle of the parking lot to put the bungee cables on my front bumper. Upon further inspection, Patrick and Brian informed me that metal on the inside of my vehicle was actually rubbing directly on the tire and that if I tried to drive it home the tire would actually pop. There was no way I could drive an hour and ten minutes home in that condition. Immediately both Brian and Patrick offered to bend the metal back away from the tire so that I could make my trip home and safely. They both worked for an hour, if not more, on the ground, and not to mention it was unusually warm out that day as well, working to hammer out, pry and move the metal far enough away so that I could drive my car home. Not a small feat by any means. I asked them at one point if it was ok that they were out there helping me, as I did not want either guy to get into any trouble on my behalf. Their reply to me was, "you're our customer" and let me remind you again, I only spent 10 bucks on bungee cables. Then after successfully moving the metal away from the tire, they proceeded to use the bungee cables and some other ties which they retrieved from the store to secure my front bumper and so on. I have to say, during the entire time they (Patrick and Brian) worked on my vehicle, many gentlemen passersby came in and out of the store, looked over and watched, but never once offered assistance to us. Patrick and Brian gave me pointers on watching how I turn the wheel and take the turns to ensure safety. After all was said and done, they even shut my car door behind me as I hopped in and wished me well. I can't tell you how much their hard work and dedication in assisting me meant. I am a Manager where I work and oversee 36 employees. I know the extreme importance of customer service, kindness and being polite. Patrick H. and Brian R. are the epitome of what true customer service is and proved that on March 17th. They both went above and beyond what I expected. Their thoughtful concern in some respects, saved me from possibly another accident or being stranded somewhere along the highway half way home. I can't thank Patrick and Brian enough for what they did. Their customer service is top notch and they deserve a GREAT JOB and KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK from all. I will tell you that those two outstanding Pep Boy employees are the type of employees a company wants to retain, recognize and promote. They are no doubt stakeholders in the future of running a good company because they already see the value of good customer service and doing what it takes (even when not asked) to go above and beyond to ensure what has to be done is done (no matter how tough the job) and the customer is left with a feeling of appreciation and satisfaction.
