They'll lie straight to your face. They told me they'd give me a mount&balance with an alignment over the phone, then when I arrived they told me they wouldn't mount my brand new tires because I didn't buy them from them but they'd give me an alignment. I went elsewhere to get a mount and balance, but when I went back they refused to give me an alignment because my trucks lifted even though they knew that before. I called to see what it would cost to get a headlight in my 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe fixed. The guy quoted me $259.00 because with my car the entire front end had to be remove to get to the headlight. I told him I would call him back. I goggled how to change my headlight and all I had to do was pop the hood pull the old bulb out and put the new bulb in. I did it myself. I think it is horrible that someone would lie about removing the front end of my vehicle and try to charge me that kind of money to change a headlight. read more

Paid $40 to have my vehicle inspected and be told why my new power steering pump is leaking power steering fluid. After waiting around for 2 and still seeing my car in the parking lot it was finally pulled back. After 10 mins a gentleman came to grab me to tell me wrong info. They didn't put anything back to how it was before and sent me on my way. They never offered to schedule me an appointment to fix it or anything just sent me on my way. I did NOT get my car back in time for my trip and was in a horrible position. took my other car here recently again for a valve cover gasket, after the valve cover gasket install I have been chasing a vacuum leak, took the car back to them for the issue, was told it was a fuel filter. did not fix it once it was done obviously, I also double checked with 2 of the people on the phone and they thought it's a fuel filter. took the car to the Audi service center and they showed me the valve cover gasket that they installed was leaking smoke during the smoke test. It took 6 days of me waiting for them to repair the valve cover gasket. the first time I paid to have it done it was done the first day... all of this started due to rough cranking now my car Is not driveable read more

You know you've been ripped off , when the oil change you just paid for (at Pep Boys) cost more than the dealer price for the same oil change. On line the Pennzoil oil change at Pep Boy's in Greenville quotes $89.99. . . but when the invoice is presented it's $110.82. The shell game they play is one I experienced before. They claim the oil filter required, cost $18. "It's a special synthetic oil filter" they say. FYI: anyone can buy the oil filter for my car for $7 to $8 all day long. Furthermore the $10 off coupon that was suppose to be sent to my phone never showed up. Bottom line: This is a scam operation. As my dad often said...it's not the money it's the principle. On May 16th I took my 2004 Sebring to PepBoys in Greenville to have the AC checked out. I was there over 2 hours. It cost me $291.50 to be told everything was fine it just needed charged. Two weeks later it was blowing hot air again. I made an appointment and took it back last week. I was told the compressor is bad and that cost me another $92.81. I asked to speak to the manager for an explanation. The manager is Shane Virgilio. He is a short tempered non people person. His response was "the compressor worked 2 weeks ago now it is bad". I told him I thought that was BS. I told him it sounds to me like someone did not do their job right. He got angry and said "Im not doing this. I hear this crap all the time" and he went back into his office. The coward would not even talk to me and I never did raise my voice. It cost me $384.31 for absolutely nothing. Consistent prices and customer service are the name of the game in business. Pepboys has delivered on these for me. The location on Laurens Road however is truly the best I've had on all accounts. So happy with the service here!!! I came in late after I noticed that my tire pressure was falling after leaving work. There wasn't much time before closing, but I wasn't sure if there was much need for concern - but would need it fixed for work the next day and to go back to FL a day later for my graduation. At first I was told it was too late, but Matt who was in the lobby at the time said he would check it out himself. He went out to check out my car and determined the tire would need to be changed. Given it was late - again the man in the lobby pushed back on doing it that late, but Matt stood up and ensured he would be able to do it before closing. All was settled and he was able to get it done at an affordable price with no problems ever since! I have to agree with other reviews here. Getting my oil changed should not have taken more than an hour. The price was good, but they also did not reset my service light. Oil Express is more expensive but they have stellar customer service. Here, while the people behind the counter were certainly friendly, they were very casual. I'm certainly not against people having a good time while at work - that's my usual day to day - but when in front of customers, there's a certain level of professionalism required. Bought 4 brand new tires from this location 6 months ago and got a nail in rear tire. Made an appointment to get tire repaired and was told it was in "non-repairable" zone. I would have to buy a new tire. Went to Discount Tires less than 2 miles away and was told tire could easily be repaired and I could get life time warranty for all tires for any future repair/balance issue for free with one time $50 warranty fee which comes free if I bought the tires here in the first place. NEVER should have bought tires at Pepboys and won't in the future. read more

I needed my oil changed before a trip and I had used pep boys previously in a different city. I saw that there was availability that day for 6 PM on their online system so I signed up. However, when I got there for my "appointment," they did not have me in the system. Apparently there were issues with the online system and I was supposed to call? They couldn't get me in til right before they closed so I made an appointment for the next day. The next day after waiting about 1.5 hrs for my oil change, they said "you're good to go, no charge because of the inconvenience yesterday." SO although I was initially frustrated, they made up for it! Good customer service! But, I would call for an appointment... They said because of my make and model (2006 Sebring) it would be a lot of labor to remove the bumper to even access the bulb. BULLCUSS. While waiting for the tow truck to come (approx 1.5 hrs) my car battery died due to the hazards being on and charging my phone. I had AAA tow me to Pep Boys at 2418 Laurens Rd in Greenville SC. Upon arrival, I explained the situation to the service writer and informed him that the battery was only discharged due to the long wait with the hazard lights on, but that it wasn't related to the problem. He said: "Ok, my guy will check it and we'll know something within the hour." He came back to tell me I needed a new battery. I again reiterated the fact that the problem wasn't battery related...but he insisted, so I authorized a replacement battery. He NEVER discussed battery pricing, warranty info or any features and benefits for the battery...just installed whatever battery he liked. A few minutes later, the service writer came back to say: "Welp, the battery didn't fix it, so he's going to check a few more things." At this point, I knew things were going south (No pun intended) so I left the waiting room to go watch the "technician" work on my car. He literally LOOKED at my fuse box...as in, with his eyeballs only and said: "You need a fuel pump." No tools, no multi-meter, no volt meter nothing but his eyeballs!! The problem with this is that the fuel pump is located inside the gas tank! I asked: "How do you know?" To which he replied: "There's no fuel pressure at the fuel rail." I said: "I just had a fuel pump module installed in February, not even 3,000 miles ago." He says: "You must've got a bad one or something because this one isn't working. If you want us to fix it, it'll be roughly $1100.00" I said: "OK fine, let me make a few calls and I'll give you my answer. I proceeded to contact the repair facility who installed my fuel pump to ask about warranty. After looking me up in their system, they verified I was still covered under warranty for parts and labor. I told the Pep Boys employee to leave my vehicle as is and that AAA would tow it home for me. He then asked if I wanted to keep the new battery "since the other one was 'old' anyway." I said: "No, go ahead and put the old one back in." I had to rent a car to finish my trip which cost me $287.14 I had to pay Pep Boys $99.52 for a diagnosis and I lost HOURS of driving time dealing with this. When I returned home from my trip, I had the TrailBlazer taken back to the facility where the fuel pump was installed at 7:30 AM. They didn't open until 9AM. They called back at around 945-10AM to tell me that the car was fixed. The only problem was the fuel pump relay. It was a $17 part. It took less than a minute to install. That's NOT an exaggeration, it literally takes LESS than a minute to install. I called Pep Boys to ask for a refund on my "diagnosis" and was told the manager would call me back. He/she never did. I called 1-800-PEPBOYS and was PROMISED a return call within 24-48 hrs from Ken Brown who they identified as the area manager. That NEVER happened. I called 1-800-PEPBOYS AGAIN, and was told by a heavily accented person whom I could BARELY understand, that there were "no supervisors in the entire building." STILL nobody's called. I'm guessing nobody cares. I can't see me ever stepping a foot into another Pep Boys as long as I live. I went to the store for a 120-point inspection on a vehicle I planned to buy. I explained to the staff member why I was there and mentioned that I noticed some issues during my test drive. He said he would look into it, and after 20 minutes, the manager informed me that my car was ready. When I asked about the inspection and the issues I raised earlier, Mr. Virgilio rudely informed me that I would need to pay an additional $99 for them to test drive and examine the car's performance. My concern is that if the issues I mentioned were not covered by the 120-point inspection, he should have informed me before conducting the inspection. He only told me after the inspection and became angry when I asked him about it. He forced me to pay for a service that did not address my concerns, even though I raised them before the inspection. Manager behavior was indecent, and I suggest PEP Boys consider recommending him for behavioral therapy. He failed to listen to my concerns and said they didn't need customers who questioned their service. Successful businesses are built on customer feedback, and managers should try to resolve customer concerns or offer solutions. Mr. Virgilio's behavior was unacceptable for a manager, and he even stated that his name was on the bill, implying that he could do whatever he wanted. This experience was very unpleasant, and I plan to challenge it in court with evidence since they charged me incorrectly for a service they did not provide. I believe PEP Boys should place the right person in the right position; otherwise, it could damage the company's reputation. read more

While staying in Greenville for a family celebration my alternator decided this was a good place as any to die at 6pm. Lucky for me I was near pep boys. When I arrived they were hammered with tons of work in the auto shop and trying to get everyone there cars before closing, it was 90 degrees and we were all melting, yet they still took time out to help me, and went way out of there way to get me back on the road. Steve in the service department at the end of a long shift located the part I needed and ordered the part. He was apologetic that it would not be there until the next morning. I left the car overnight and got a call the next day around 2pm that is was finished. Knowing I was from out of town and did not have my rewards coupons (maybe next time I'll travel with them) to help me on the cost, they found one for me and applied it to my bill. Driving back home from Georgia our truck decided to give us some trouble. Being a Sunday, everything was closed. We pulled into the local Greenville Pep Boys and my husband went inside and spoke with the Service Advisor, Joseph who went above and beyond to diagnose our issue. Joseph himself fixed our truck, ran to another location to get a part we needed and got us on the road as quickly and safely as possible. Joseph saved us a lot of unnecessary money and a rental car with several trips back and forth. With my wife, son and dog in car I can't say thank you enough. Just drove back from Florida and wanted to get the oil changed. Well I called two hours after dropping off the first car and it wasn't even ready. They said it needed new tires and an alignment and all this other stuff that was a bunch of crap. Told them no thank you just change the oil and rotate the tires like we asked. And hour later that car was ready so we left the 2nd car expecting the same thing about finding problems. No phone call that anything was wrong but once we got home and looked at the car they didn't even rotate the tires on it. Really??? It makes me wonder if they even changed the oil.
