    I scheduled an appointment on the Pep Boys website for 5pm and had it confirmed. Drove to the store and arrived at maybe 5:03. Only needed an alignment done on a 2/3 year old vehicle. Shouldn't be a problem (I worked as a Master Tech in shops for 14 years). Walk up to the front door and found the place closed and all locked up. Hours on the door said they close at 5. There was an employee in the parking lot in his car who saw me drive up and try the door. He didn't say anything and drove off. Okay, so I understand mismatches between online hours and actual hours... but the fact that no one called me ahead of time to tell me my appointment was unable to be made that day? Inexcusable. They need to A)- fix their online/actual hours and B)- get better at communication with their customers. Usually this small misunderstanding is indicative of bigger problems. I'll go elsewhere.

    I left home to go to Pep Boys to check my service engine soon light, it is Sunday, 10:30am, I guessed to just walk in, no appointment, as I thought the store was empty, no other single customer on sight, after waiting a little awhile, someone came to check on me, a guy came in without any kind of greet, or welcoming for the new customer, asked me what do I need, I said the purpose of the visit, he asked me if I wanted to make an appointment for that, I said, do I need appointment? since the store is empty, he said yes. I really thought walk-ins were welcomed. I left the store, without make an appointment, I'm going to look to a friendly place, that's care about the customer. Is it a fact of being a woman in a men's world that make the majority of automotive service places so unwelcome for us? Just wondering...

He was respectful and took the time to understand the situation, but initially stood by the no-refund policy. However, after I provided documentation from Ford confirming the recall had been completed, along with paperwork from the branch showing inconsistencies, he agreed to issue a refund. I'm grateful the situation was ultimately resolved, but disappointed that it took this level of effort and public pushback to be heard. I wish they had been willing to have a conversation before I had to exhaust every possible avenue. That said, I appreciate that they did eventually make it right. I would give the district manager 4 stars based on our actual conversation--but I'm updating this review to two stars overall because of the level of effort it took to get here, and the prior conversations had with the branch, customer service, and BBB correspondence that all doubled down on their policy regardless of the specific situation.

So corporate, I truly hope you read this and question who you have employed. Two months ago, a "mechanic" totaled my boyfriend's car (engine was locked). They tried to claim it wasn't their fault but that was quickly disproven. If he took his car in for an oil change, shouldn't there be oil in the car? Anyways, there are the things they have broken: -the engine -the alternator -the A/C system... twice -the windshield (they dropped the engine through it) Instead of the region or district manager hiding from corporate, he should have taken ownership and acted accordingly. Instead he is a coward and hid from everyone in this situation. What a JOKE. JD is great so he deserves none of the backlash. He has single-handedly taken on this MAJOR issue on his own. They walked out before I was even parked, handed me a water, were all polite and gave me recommendations for mechanics in the area. I called them, and without hesitation, they told me to bring it in right away. They quickly diagnosed a completely different problem--my thermostat and a faulty sensor. Even though this was unrelated to the first repair, they covered the cost entirely. That kind of integrity and commitment to customer satisfaction is almost impossible to find these days. Not only do they have some of the best prices in town, but the team genuinely cares about their customers. They took the time to listen to my frustrations, treated me with kindness, and even gave me a hug before I left. I was quoted 158 for this job the day prior over the phone and I confirmed at the start of the appointment if that would be the price. My brakes were in poor shape, missing a brake pad on one side and the mechanics spent an extra 15-20 mins working on my cylinder. At the end of the job, Chris informed me that they got air on the line and would have to bleed the brakes. (I've always had my brakes bled at the end of any brake job so this is standard for me to have done whenever I get my breaks done. They told me this would be an extra 120 dollars at the end of the job. My father is a mechanic and said that price was a little high just to bleed the brakes and was very familiar with the procedure. He told me "go call your dad and ask him to send you more money." When I asked if they could take 20 bucks off and knock the price down to 100 from 120 he asked me to tell him how old I was which I thought was rude and uncalled for. I told him I was 30 and he proceeded to say "wow you look 18" and said "one day you're going to have to learn that everything in life isn't free sweetheart." When I went to his office to pay he also said I'm going to have to buy him lunch because they spent extra time working on my car than they planned. Disgusting behavior. I would not recommend this shop to any woman (or really anyone) unless you want to be taken advantage of and upsold. They ended up bleeding one brake so my car would be somewhat drivable. My interior dashboard was also scratched up when I got my car back from them.
