This place does not deserve your business! Manager on Duty Juwon disrespected my time and refused to give me customer service. I had an appointment for an oil change at 4:30PM. By the time I made it to the young woman at the front desk, she assured me twice that my car is the next one to be serviced. I returned 2.5 hours later at 7:15PM to my car still in the spot where I parked it at 4:30. I asked about the car, and the manager said he did not know about it but they are bringing it in now. When I mentioned that it was unacceptable service, he handed me my keys and left our conversation multiple times to go to the garage and refuse customer service. One or more things is happening: -They are lying to make a sale. -They ignored my service intentionally and feigned ignorance when I asked for a reason why my car was not looked at. -They are so poorly managed that they can not handle a simple queue or their small staff. Pep Boys has lost my business permanently, and they do not deserve your time or money, it is simply not worth it. read more

I dropped my car off on time for my 5pm appointment to just check a noise in my car, i arrive back at 7:20 and they have not brought it into the back or looked at it. they close at 8pm. no call or anything. They said they don't follow appointment times "first come first serve" is what the front desk agent told me. I guess there's no point in having a reservation/appointment system. Would be nice to disclose that or remove the feature if that's how a shop works. they have one mechanic working on 6 cars. After complaining to a manager at 7:30 they bring my car in the shop, they mechanic proceeds to take off the wrong tires for the designated repair And walk away. The manager says at 8:15 (they're closed) that they just need to clean my caliper. I inform her that he didn't even take off the correct tires so how would he know that. She then checks and sees he took off the wrong tires That's on the work order. I've had so much time wasted for a simple check up. This place is horrid. Please help. read more

I took my car in because the light said "insufficient oil". I figured there was some sort of leak. I had them run a diagnostic. After a 2 hour wait and $117 charge their diagnosis was that there was an oil leak. Ummm...ok? They couldn't tell me the source or cause and suggested I take it to the dealer. It was a waste of my time and money. They even said they couldn't add any oil to the car because of "liability purposes". I called their customer service # to confirm the shop should be open and they said yes, and I told them it's still locked and I've now been on hold for almost 20 min. Scheduled an appointment for an oil change and a NYS Inspection. Couple of things stood out, first there was the wrong mileage recorded, 55,426 when the actual mileage was 46,694. Then of course there were several suggested items but nothing that would impact being able to provide the inspection sticker. My appointment was at 10, they said it would be ready by 11:30. After a review and a bill that should have been around 200, they were able to jack it up to a little under 1000 with their suggestions. When I protested and agreed on only adding the air filters the bill was 275. Of course after not going for all the additional services, it added another 45 mins to my wait time. Last but not least the billing statement has the total price of 162.19 and I was charged 274.29. Now I have to call my credit card company and dispute the charge. Steer clear of this Pepboys @ 354 4th Ave in Brooklyn. You will get more than you bargain for and that ain't good. read more

I appreciate Carolina and Albert, they helped me out with getting a tire replaced. I think the stand-out part here was the follow-up... The manager chatted me up on his way home the first day to give me tips on checking the warranty on my tire before ordering a new one. Carolina kept an eye out for my tire delivery and called me when it was delivered and made room for me to come and get it installed same day. The second day the manager instantly remembered me when I walked in, and also chatted me up again on his way home to give me an update on my car. He left me his name if I need anything. I can appreciate the hands-on service from the people who work here. This area of Jersey City can deal with a lot of tough personalities as customers, but I felt like they kept it real. read more

Miserable place! Made a 9:00 am appointment for an oil change. I was 1st in line. They didn't open on time, opening 5 minutes late. The only person there was the receptionist who opened, there wasn't a mechanic in sight. She proceeds to tell me it's drop off only and then I could pick up at the end of the day. I explain that I am not able to leave the car and that I had an appointment. She again says drop off only. I walked out. Ordered tires and prepaid for them and no one every called to tell me that they were there. I tried to get a refund back and was advised I had to come in to get it done waist of time. I also had my tires changed out and then after my car was done the check engine light was on. The manager stated that it needed to be fixed and once I got home the light came back on. The manager there she was so unprofessional and stated that they didn't do anything to my car and wanted me to pay $127 for a diagnostic to see what was wrong with my vehicle. I just got my car this afternoon from Pepboys. I brought in my car to Pepboys today because I had a flat tire on the right front side. Yesterday, thru online, i made a reservation to have it fix at 9:30 AM. . so today at 9:15 AM, I brought my car to them. The unwelcoming receptionist told me, after two hours of waiting, that my car needed an oil change and recommended to change my 4 tires. reluctantly, I agreed. 2 hours past, my car was not yet ready. 4 hours past, it was still not ready. so I decided to take a look at the back where they do the fixing of the cars. there was my car, three tires were removed but one tire was still on the car. and this was after 4 hours. when i complained to the receptionists at the front desk about the technician on the phone while working on my car, she had the nerve to ask me in a rude tone: "What do you want me to do, tell him to stop using his phone??! I responded to her by saying: "you work here, you tell him." after the 5 hour wait, i saw my car ready. 5 hours is not necessary means express service which is on their signage above the garages. while driving my car back home, i noticed that they did not glued or pasted a new sticker that says on how many more miles I can drive and when I should have change the oil again. aside from that, they forgot to adjust the electronic information on my dashboard so now every time i turn my car on the warning sign comes up that says i need to schedule a routine maintenance on my car considering that I just had it service at Pepboys. please do yourself a favor. avoid this place at all cost. the aggravation and unpleasant experience that the Pepboys in 440 Jersey City will give you are not worth it. there are more reliable, fast and appreciative auto mechanic dealerships you can go to. read more

I was told there were no appointments before me, so it should not be long. Over the course of the next hour and a half, I saw one customer come and go and another be told they'd be done shortly. I walked toward the entrance and saw my car was still parked where I'd left it when I arrived. It was an hour and a half after my scheduled appointment, and they had not started service even though I was assured there were no appointments before me. They never communicated with me. When I asked, they sheepishly replied that there were delays in service. I'd been using this store for oil changes for a few years. I was utterly gobsmacked. This was my first time coming to this Pep Boys and it was a disappointment all around. I used to live in PA and my Pep Boys I would go to was very nice and my oil change would be done in 45 minutes. The front desk girl told me it would be about an hour and a half since it was a busier Friday and it ended up taking 4 hours. Had I known it would be that long, I wouldn't have waited. It would have been one thing if they told me in advance it would be four hours. Also, the text I received that was supposed to provide a step by step status update never was updated. I was waiting with another man getting a wheel alignment and they told him it would be two hours. Let's start from the top: I ordered tires from tirerack and saw that this Pepboys was a "preferred installer". Close to my house so convenien, 2 star review but I'm only getting my tires on. How bad could it be? My appointment was scheduled for Thursday 9am. I get there, doesn't look too busy. Was told my car will be ready by 1130. I stick around, make some work calls, thinking I'll be just late to work right? 1200 rolls around and no word from staff. Benefit of the doubt, maybe it's almoat done. 1230 hits, I walk up. "Oh. Turns out you need new brakes!" Couldn't have told me while the "work was being done"? Look through the glass and I see my car with no new wheels. $1200 price tag on that! I have no free time the coming days so I take it as a lesson in the "price of convenience". It'll take longer than they thought so they offer to call me a Lyft, which I accept. The driver has all my info, name and number, all his info checks out, name and license plate, and off we go! Lo and behold, where we are headed is NOT MY HOUSE. The address given was over a mile away from my house. Thankfully my driver is an upstanding human being and drove The extra distance to my house instead of leaving me stranded to walk. I call the store to tell them their error, and they try to say the driver picked up the wrong person. I likely given he had my info right? They offer $25 off for my trouble. I don't want to fight as they have my car and I just want the work done. My car was scheduled to be ready around 3/4pm. 5pm rolls in. I call them. "Car isn't ready yet." It's ready at 6pm. They ask me if I want the tires and I say no, I'm going home. Friday I go grocery shopping and what do I see in the trunk? surprise surprise, it's my tires! I call up the store 5pm and speak to Phillip, the store manager, who wasn't there on Thursday but will call me back. The store closes at 8pm. Plenty of time right? Saturday rolls along, no word from Phillip. I give it until 3 when I show up and meet assistant manager Spencer. After telling him everything that happened to me I ask him, "if you were in my shoes how would you feel?" His reply: "I don't understand what you are upset about. We did the work that you okayed. Sure it's annoying the tires are in your trunk but you drove them back here. What's the problem?" "This is a customer service problem Spencer! As a customer I'm not happy!" Spencer's reply: "I'm here to take care of cars, not customers." While all this is going on, another customer comes out to say to us "don't waste your time on this guy (pointing at Spencer). I've been here for 4 hours waiting for my tires to be put on and there's almost no one here!" This customer is more upset than I am, and I turn to Spencer and go "2 customers in 3 days you have this issue?" Upon arrival I was told that instead of 2 hours it would be 3-4 for the work to get done because staff was calling out. 4 hours later my vehicle still was not pulled into the bay. My wife's Volvo was having trouble starting. So, she took it to advance autoparts to check the battery. They tested it and said it was the battery, but they can't replace it since they don't have enough people to do it. They suggested taking it to pepboys. So pepboys did a diagnostic, but they said the battery is good and it may need a tune-up. So my wife agreed. They also suggested that the breaks caliper also need to be replaced. Also, my wife agreed. After they did the work, the breaks are now totally gone, and now they have to do more to replace another part. I told theP manager that the issue was that the reason my wife took it there was that the car wasn't starting, now I have no breaks? And now it's unsafe to drive , and now I have to pay more to get this fix. The manager said that they would order the part, but it will take a couple of days. He said he will.keep me informed. My wife brought the car on a Monday, and the manager said it should be fixed by next Monday, maybe earlier, if the part is delivered. A week later, I called them back, and the manager is now telling me that the wrong part was delivered and he has to reorder it, and he doesn't know when the part will arrive. I totally lost it because these people broke my car and never kept me informed. I paid what was due and told them to take my car out. I had it towed, and I took it to the real mechanics at Volvo. These people are rip off and took advantage of my wife since she doesn't know anything about vehicle repairs. I will never come back here because they rip off customers. Took my car (2018 Chevrolet Equinox) there for an oil change on Friday December 16th,2022 took more than 2 hours for "mechanic" Joel to do. Got the car back the car was smelling like oil especially when I put on my heat. The next day December 17th, 2022 I'm driving the car the engine light come on and the car is saying low oil pressure, turn engine off. Went back to pep boys and now they are saying the oil was all over the engine and the hood and they are cleaning it up. Now another master mechanic is like the oil cap is loose and they are going to keep the car overnight, they're going to order the oil cap, and the car should be available tomorrow in the morning which would be Sunday. It's Sunday December 18th,2022 and there's no updates on the car. Called multiple times and the currently pregnant female associate Asia answers the phone and I asked for an update on the car she stated that the vendor got into the car accident and the part wasn't able to get delivered. I'm like don't bullshit me cause now I know you're lying.The manager/supervisor Nick is like I don't know who told you that the vendor got into an accident but that's not what happened. Now they're telling me they won't get the part until tomorrow (Monday). I'm irate and angry now because this is such an inconvenience and I have a job in New York which requires me to utilize my vehicle. Supervisor Addy is like you have my word I will email it to you first thing in the morning. She took my email and I left hoping to get the information in the morning. It's now Tuesday December 20th,2022 and it's afternoon and I have not received any emails. I'm contacting the store and it's the same thing like before where I kept getting placed on hold. When supervisor Addy answered she would redirect me to someone else who would tell me she's working on it. This went on for hours. Mind you they have caller ID apparently because they were able to distinguish me calling for information about the car. It's 6:15 PM and I'm in New Jersey and I called twice. The first time I call from my cellphone and an associate picked up impersonating to be supervisor Addy and I'm well aware it wasn't her voice. The second time I called with my work cellphone and miraculously supervisor Addy answered and I'm like Addy come on now, where's the information I requested. She's like I have it I'll send it to you right now. Now January 1st 2023 Saga: Got the car back on December 19th which is less than 2 weeks and on January 1st 2023 my battery charging system light comes on. I'm at a mechanic now and they are saying due to the oil spillage all over and there's a lot of residue that was left. The mechanic states why would a 2018 Chevy equinox not charge the battery. Like it's fairly new. After inspection I find out that now I need to buy a new alternator because the alternator is filled with oil and is not able to charge the battery. Now the car also needs a new tune up which I got at pepboys literally a month prior WHAT A JOKE. Also I need to get an oil flush. All of that comes up to approximately $1000. If you want your car to be messed up, the engine to blow up, to pay for unnecessary fixes, alternator to not work and your battery to lose charge definitely go to them. read more

I arrived in the morning for an unscheduled oil change and Tire pressure reset. Which only means that they had to add air to the tires. They received my car with no issue around 8:10AM and told me that I had until 8PM to pick it up. Which worked well with my schedule for the day. I arrived at around 7:38PM. Paid for the oil change and the Tire Pressure Reset ($15.00). When I got in my car the tire pressure system indicator light was still on. I went back in and advised the front desk person that the indicator light was still on, he asked me to pull back into their garage. The friendly young man who filled my tires told me, that the indicator light should turn off, once he added air to my tires, which were very low. Which essentially meant that the Pep Boys mechanic who was originally assigned to service my vehicle did not actually do the job they were assigned to do, and that pep boys had no issue with charging me for work that had not been done! I will not be returning to PEP Boys and will be finding another provider to service my vehicle. Unfortunate, because the location is super convenient for me. Was told it would take an hour, I decided to wait. 30 minutes later, the car is still where I parked it. 45 minutes later, someone moves it to the service area. 1 hour later, the car has not been touched by anybody in the service area. All the staff is there, joking around and shouting, not giving a flying f***k about anything. After 1 hour and 15 minutes of waiting, I ask to get my car back because some people have to work. Had to wait another 15 minutes and request them to hurry to get the car out of the service area. Result: lost 1 hour and 30 minutes, did NOT get my oil changed and received absolutely NO apologies from ANY of the employees. Two ladies took good care of me and directed me that it might be a 2 to 2 1/2 hour wait and I told him that was OK. I ended up in the waiting room only about 45 minutes. They explained to me that the battery was successfully changed. The price point was OK. A little expensive for such a tiny battery. However, I was very satisfied. My advice is to try and, at the bare minimum, know what the issue with your car is. You will save yourself and the staff at Pep Boys a lot of time and aggravation. Keywords like a knocking noise, pulls to one side, leaking oil, etc. is better than saying I'm not sure or I heard A SOUND. BE SPECIFIC!!! . I do understand that it is Pep Boys' job to fix and repair cars. Didnt think that the steering damper hanging from the bottom of the car was worth mentioning. Completely incompetent, useless, uncaring, and thoughtless front desk and crew.
